ough i actually do have a lot of thoughts regarding prim and pukas power sets,, ty for giving me and excuse to share them

I feel like prim and pukas powers as cures are left kinda ambiguous by the end of the movie, so i wanna try and maybe pick out the details and comes to a conclusion

I want to start with what we do know and then go into my headcanons i guess. So to start, from what i can tell Supremes power set can be divided into three categories. Creation, Destruction, and Electricity. Since its stated that Supreme split their power with puka, we can assume puka can do all of this as well.

For Creation, i feel this ones not super defined. We see Supreme use it a few times, once to recreate the earth, recreating themselves, and also to create life on earth, including puka. I also believe that puka is seen using it. I always interpreted that puka, after breaking apart supremes earth, was the one to put the pieces back together and reform the actual earth with the help of all the precures memories. I would also argue that puka used that same power to create the miracle lights. I understand the miracles lights just kinda Show Up and dont necessarily need a reason to exist, but i think this explanation is fun. 

this is also just speculation and probably not intentional, but i noticed that when supreme recreated the earth, the particles and blue. and when puka recreated the earth, those particles were pink <3 [the particles are most likely just the miracle lights but i like this explanation better <3<3]

I feel that the Destruction and the Electricity powers supreme and puka show off can often get confused with each other, so im gonna try and define their characteristics. For Destruction, we see puka use it whenever their paw pads and heart symbol start to glow green. Supreme also follows a similar format, with the green heart jewel on their chest glowing when they specifically use that power, or when we see the symbol on supreme origins chest glow green as well.

We also see it represented with the gold star circles, with both cure puka and supreme beta using them while fighting. Tho i also attribute the star circle to their Creation power as well, since we see supreme beta use it to summon the white supreme clones before the final fight, so its no mutually exclusive to the Destruction power.  [love how the stars have a warping effect around their edges argh <3]

The final category of their power set is just an Electricity motif more than anything. We see supreme use it whenever they do their peace sign hand pose, and for them its blue electricity. We see cure puka use it a bit too, more as a charge up before they punch supreme, and we can see that their electricity is pink. Overall this power seems to be what they default to when fighting and not trying to destroy or recreate the world. 

There are also a few other little flares of power here and there, with supreme shown to be able to summon bunny shields and use their electricity in a few unique ways. I know personally i like the idea of cure supreme and puka having a variety of powers because i like the idea of them being a duo team. theyd only be able to rely on each other, and would need a variety of attacks to keep things interesting. [im aware there are other cure duo teams but i imagine the enemies supreme and puka fight are much more involved <3]

Now when it comes to the end of the movie, we’re not really told what these two are capable of, but i can speculate. From what we do know, i believe its confirmed that supreme is human by the end, and puka is still a fairy. To me, that means puka can still transform between fairy and cure puka, and prim cant transform into supreme origin or beta anymore. And in regards to what power cure supreme has left, how i interpret it is that they no longer have that power of Destruction. We see the green jewel on their chest shatter in the final fight, and to me that green jewel represented their power of Destruction. So by destroying that jewel, they no longer have that ability. 

Now that we have all the information laid out, im going to start headcanoning things for fun. I really like the idea of supreme and puka having contrasting abilities that complement each other. supreme lost their power of destruction at the end of the movie, but that leaves the question: does puka still have it? I dont see a reason as to why they wouldnt still have it. There is something i adore about the idea that the character who despised their power not only used it to save the world, but is now tasked with the responsibility of ensuing its used responsibly. 

They would also contrast each other in fighting styles. We know that supreme is very skilled at physical combat, and i believe that its something they would need to rely on more as a human. i like to think theyre more limited in their moves as a human cure. we see supreme beta floating and teleporting, but now they cant do that anymore. theyre really just limited to their electricity blasts and own skill. And while skilled, i do believe they would have to adapt to fighting as a human. Something i noticed during all their fights is that if they do get hit, they always seem relatively unaffected. As origin gamma and beta, supreme would just take the hit point blank. The only times theyre somewhat out of control being when theyre taken off balance. But as a human, taking a hit hurts, and i think theyd have to learn to get used to that. It doesnt matter how skilled of a fighter you are, as a human you have limits. these limits frustrate supreme, but theyd learn to enjoy the challenge that comes with it and fighting.

when it comes to puka and fighting, i feel they still dont really enjoy it. theyre powerful, thats for sure, but theyre clumsy. they landed one great punch in the movie, but that was it. they seem like the type that would charge in with too much momentum and then not know how to put on the brakes. they understand their destructive abilities are linked to their emotions, but maybe falter every once and awhile. but they are determined to get better. they look up to supremes coordination and composure, how they were able to harness such power so gracefully. even if their intentions back then were not ideal. puka knows the power they have is important and their responsibility to use to help those who need it. supreme understands that too. puka is more willing to change than them, thats why its their responsibly.

Soaring Sky Precure and All Stars F Thoughts

The end of January is always a bittersweet time to be a Precure fan as the currently airing series comes to a close and the next series begins the following week at the first of February. I have been watching Precure on a weekly basis for 6 years ever since Hugtto in 2018 and I watched the entire backlog of episodes over roughly 2 years. I wanted to write a post about why All Stars F and Soaring Sky Precure were the perfect anniversary projects. The staple of any Precure milestone year is a new All Stars movie. They used to be yearly until there were simply too many characters to sustain the purpose of the format so now its saved for special occasions. I'll start by saying All Stars F was phenomenal! The action has never looked better and unlike Memories, it was almost completely in 2D. It's hard to miss when they distill the franchise into its purest form of magical girls beating monsters. The main point I want to focus on is the film's antagonist Cure Supreme.

(note the fake logo, Supreme is merely going through the motions) They are an unworldly existence who completely destroyed all the cures. Kind of like an end of series boss character. Yet on a whim Supreme wanted to learn more about where a Precure's strength comes from such as why did they try so hard. Supreme recreated earth, gave themselves a mascot, a ton of monsters to defeat including a boss figure, all to essentially live as the main character of a Precure series. It's a very cynical way of looking at the franchise with its repeatable formula. She sees all the parts as simply something they have. In the climax of the film Supreme is faced with Precure being more than the sum of its parts. They see the hardships, trials, moments of happiness, and the moments of sadness that have occurred in the history of the franchise. A Precure is someone who puts their best foot forward and looks to make a better tomorrow regardless of any obstacles. By splitting part of their power into a mascot and trying to imitate being a cure, Supreme has already taken the first step of their redemption story. In the end, All Stars F uses Supreme to show the audience why Precure is such a long lasting franchise. It might be a repeatable formula, it might appear silly, but ultimately what defines a Precure is someone giving it all their to improve themselves. That is something that can resonate and inspires an audience of all ages which even Supreme is not immune from. The film concludes with Supreme and they're mascot Puka realizing that perhaps together there is more to life when they share experiences.

(Manatsu grinning with happiness as her first encounter with Laura replays before their eyes. You can feel how proud she is of having a friend like Laura. It completely changed the trajectory of her life for the better) If All Stars F is a refresher of Precure's overarching themes, then Soaring Sky Precure is a throwback to the duo dynamic of the early days with a theme of Heroes. We have the central duo of Sora and Mashiro. Sora is an outsider and the team lead. She befriends Mashiro, the human character, who is a kind person who doesn't always have the best self confidence. Together they teach other how to exert themselves more. Both Mashiro and Sora come to learn how acts of kindness come in many forms. Similarly, Tsubasa (first male cure, aspiring knight) and Ageha (adult, nursery school teacher) form a secondary duo. They're mostly stuck in supporting roles for most of the series, but both show anyone can embody the qualities of a Precure in their life. Super heroes don't always wear fleshly capes after all. Elle is a somewhat of a throwback to Luminous as a supernatural entity in the group. She's mostly the insert character for Precure's young target demographic. By becoming Cure Noble it adds to the idea of people in supporting roles being heroes in their own right. Even if they are fallen nobility. Precure's don't let their past define them. This brings us to the main antagonist Kaiserin. If Sora finds positivity from those around her, then Kaiserin is her foil as someone who has a pure heart but became tainted by negative surrounding circumstances. Kaiserin had been told over and over that strength is everything. These ideals were forced upon her through fabricated events. At the climax with Kaiserin wavering, the dark power went into Sky because surely a hero with strong convictions would desire the ultimate power at all costs to save a friend. But turns out Sora's bond with Mashiro is even stronger than that. Power for powers sake can only go so far and Mashiro never stopped believing in Sora. They both push each other to new heights that senseless strength could never obtain. Kasarin sees this and rejects the power. Giving in to those desires has only stunted her ability to cultivate relationships. She can now get a second chance with her loyal followers now seeking to redeem themselves as well.

The franchise began as "Futari wa Precure" (We are Precure) for a reason. It's about how people can connect and push each other. Whether its someone from another world and a human on earth, an alien being destructive powers, or.... a dog and her pet owner? Sometimes the larger group dynamic and gimmick is more important in modern precures, but going back to those roots from Futari wa Precure every once in awhile is a good reminder of how it runs through every installment to this day. Tldr - I'm thinking way to hard about a children's television series whose main goal is selling toys. We're lucky it consistently has such strong character writing. I really like when the lead can shout their dream at every turn and grows to embody that ideal. We got spoiled by having a full 50 episode series this year. The power of 4 cour is amazing. Late night anime could only dream of having that much time.

Some general thoughts on Precure All Stars F:

1) I knew it going in, but it really is delightful that the literal plot of this movie is some kind of all-powerful alien capable of destroying planets deciding after a fight to become the most powerful being in the universe: a magical girl. (Complete with mascot made of the weak and useless parts of yourself like compassion and a desire for friendship and ugh you’re not destroying things with our incredible cosmic power, get away from me.)

2) Laura: I’m looking for someone (my girlfriend.)

Mashiro: What a coincidence! I’m looking for my girlfriend too!

3) Love how StarTwi staff have said Lala’s “On my home planet I am TOTALLY AN ADULT” is a lie, but she still got grouped in on Team Adult… as the token kid.

4) I will say, the evil alien bunny girl does have a really good sense of style.

5) Tsubasa just fanboys every time he meets a princess, huh. What a dork. <3

6) I missed Manatsu and Laura so much. But you know who I missed more? Nodoka. Also love the inherent in-joke of Nodoka talking about how she misses and is looking for Rabirin to Mashiro, who shares a VA.

7) So yeah the train part made me go wibbly. Also, Nodoka took up running to build her stamina but still can’t run as fast as the others, none of whom are particularly athletic but also aren’t chronically ill. YES. (Laura trying to use her tail to bridge the gap was a nice touch.)

8) A tiny puppy reminds Yukari of her girlfriend, who is a dog.

9) The reunions were so cute, all times. Team Soaring Sky getting a group hug. Manatsu and Laura getting a HUGE hug while Yui and Amane and Nodoka and Asumi’s are a bit more restrained. So cute. (And then meanwhile, the adorable bunny mascot with Serious Trauma is having a very reasonable freakout. Poor Puca.)

10) Team Wing sees explosions in the castle and just vanishes for like five minutes only to reappear having already defeated Supreme’s “final boss.” High achievers, all of them.

11) Also La Mer getting to do her little “Victory!” jump and kick after her attack, even though they’re still running. So cute.

12) Reiterating what I said when Toei posted the first Big All-Precure Fight Scene: People were not kidding, Milky Rose looks dead there, and I’m not sure we actively see her get up later in the scene when everyone rallies? I… assume so? Looking forward to people uploading screenshots of a lot of the quick shot sequences to get a closer look (that one and the Cure Allies shots during All For One Forever, in particular.)

13) So the last couple movies hadn’t used Miracle Lights. Sure. But would it really be an All Stars movie - for a milestone anniversary, no less - without them? Of course not.

14) I am always a sucker for a good memory montage featuring the power of love. And oh, that was a good one. Not sure my favorite: Manatsu and Laura and Yui and Amane reacting to their shared memories are both fantastic, but so’s Yukari just standing by the wall as her memory plays out, and of course they pick That Scene from Healin’ Good for Rabirin and Nodoka’s maximum emotional impact.

15) That said: Distinctly NOT a fan of Supreme’s design featuring a darker skin tone once she goes evil and only when she goes evil, even though she keeps the black costume change in the ending.

16) I was admittedly a LITTLE disappointed when I got the soundtrack to realize they weren’t repeating All Stars Memories with a like twelve-minute fight scene track that was a medley of the theme songs. I do love the eight-minute medley track. All For One Forever is more than acceptable as a substitute, though.

17) We finally get the Delicious Party/Kirakira a la mode teamup we all wanted and deserved. Plus, bonus food-themed Cures adding their own powers to the mix! The ULTIMATE battle cake.

18) Also great: Laura and Minami’s “did we just become best friends?” attack. (All the thematic combos were delightful but seriously La Mer and Mermaid just seeing each other and going “let’s do a combo” is PERFECT.)

19) Yukari and Akira trying to act cool once they’re reunited, like Yukari hasn’t been utterly miserable all movie because her girlfriend is gone. Lala wiping out some cannon fodder so Yukari can have a moment with her girlfriend. (Lala understands. Her girlfriend was past the cutoff for getting two major cast members this movie. Probably because Nodoka and Rabirin with Team Prism had thematic purpose and a sequence break would look seriously weird - Hikaru seems like a shoo-in for Team Sky’s Goofball Energy And Preme.)

20) Cure Puca, like Ellee, gets the benefits of being a Precure seemingly requiring you to be a humanoid teenager/whatever’s going on with Cure Earth Who Is At Least This Tall Unless You’re A Mascot: being able to give a heroic speech.

21) Things I’m remembering last-minute I enjoyed: Sora showing the others her Hero Diary and being sad when she sees the “We Are Pretty Cure” page of her and Prism holding hands. Sora incorporating Yui’s and Manatsu’s mottos into her own. The lead Cures during the Portals Sequence all being like “yeah we don’t really know what’s going on here but we’ve all been in an All Stars movie or several before, we can handle this, sure.” The emphasis on hand-holding in general, particularly that FLASH of the battle they lost and Precious that Sora gets the first time she takes Yui’s hand and the vaguer one for Manatsu’s. And in a “this amused me” way, the way everyone getting lined up for the battle before the Requisite Explosion Jump is just them floating in space like a bunch of dolls on invisible shelves because it’s the only way to manage this all, there’s like 80 of them, it is SO MANY PRECURE.

So yeah, solid movie, I enjoyed it greatly. Probably gonna give it a minute until I finally watch the Healin’ Good one.

What are your favourite animated shows, be it cartoons or anime?

I like Hanazuki: Full of Treasures most of all, it was meant to have three seasons, but only ended up with two seasons - one of them incomplete at eight episodes alone, before stopping production with no reason given. The main character is adorable and the lore of the universe is shrouded in mystery but with enough worldbuilding that you know there's answers there, despite the show being aimed at toddlers. The Hemka are small, cute little shapeshifting rabbit creatures, and the show tackles things like depression and trauma in some episodes. Check it out!

As for anime, I love the psychological horror aspect of Happy Sugar Life, I know it has a reputation for depicting things in a certain way, but that's what I like about it. Seeing this kind of thing through Satou's eyes is what helps the psychological horror drive itself through. There's an endless amount of content warnings this anime has, but when you look at it from a horror standpoint where the protagonist isn't meant to be a good person, but it's showing you the lens the protagonist is viewing things through, it can send massive shivers down your spine. It's great if you're not worried about discomfort.

For anime, definitely the Pretty Cure franchise as a whole. I've been watching since 2012 with Smile Precure, and though I fell out for a bit after HUGtto Precure ended, I got back into it this year with the 20th anniversary, Hirogaru Sky Precure. A new season is on it's way, and I'm excited to see it. Each season's theme is different, with a different cast of heroes and different plot, allowing for there to be something for everyone. I've been going back and watching Yes 5, and Yes 5 GoGo, which I'd recommend heavily if you want to know the basic gist of Precure. Each year they have crossover movies that either bring together the three most recent teams, or every past Precure hero. My favorite of these films so far being HUGtto! Pretty Cure♡Futari wa Pretty Cure: All Stars Memories. The franchise has something for everyone, look at the season themes and see what you like the sound of if you wanna try it out!

For cartoons... Mona The Vampire and The Magic Key are tied for first. I haven't met that many other people who have heard of these two, given they're British children's media. Mona The Vampire is about a girl called Mona who likes to dress up and play detective/vampire with her friends regarding mysteries that happen around her town or in school, with the episodes taking an aesthetic turn once they dress up. Her friends dressing as a princess and an alien, also taking on those roles alongside Mona. It's an adorable and goofy show. The Magic Key is about a family with a dog called Floppy, who has a magic key around his neck. The magic key can take this family and their friends on different adventures to learn lessons regarding certain things, based on some British children's books, but it's quite cute nonetheless!

We're getting a true All Stars movie this year, if this teaser is to be believed - with all 50+ Cures included.

Not sure why they're doing it in fall rather than in March like in the past. I hope this doesn't end up taking the place of a Hirogaru Sky standalone movie. No offense, the crossover fall PreCure movies have been cool, but All Stars Memories (which was initially announced as the Hugtto standalone movie, but with Futari wa PreCure crossing over, like with the Healin' Good and Tropical Rouge standalones that had Yes PreCure 5 and HeartCatch crossovers respectively, before it became an All Stars movie) was the only one that made sense as a crossover. The Star*Twinkle PreCure movie was a standalone without any crossover, and it looks great!

Have you ever talked about your thoughts on Max Heart? having followed you for a lil bit now I've been getting curious

Oh yes plenty but a lot of it is on Twitter or older blogs. I love Max Heart, I don't feel it's as strong as the original season and I'm pretty neutral on Shiny Luminous as a character but anything with more Nagisa and Honoka is a huge plus.

Also, Max Heart movie 2 is... Literally my favorite Precure movie and there is some seriously tough competition (like All Stars Memories, and Star Twinkle) but that fight scene and all the gay undercurrents through the whole movie is just too good.

Go princess is one of the few precure seasons I haven't finished. What's your favorite things about it?

Also great character choices.

I've seen a lot of similar complaints about the pacing for hirogaru but I really like that they focused on the characters more because it feels like we got the most emotionally developed cast in the series by the end.

Any thoughts on all stars f?

Tbh I can't really give an exact reason on why I enjoy Go Princess so much, but if I had to- the characters. They all have something about them that's really charming :)

All Stars F!! Ohhhh my god it topped All Stars Memories as the best All Stars movies of all time for me, everything about it was awesome, from the action to the voice acting. I have a feeling it's going to take awhile for it be outdone.

THE WONDERFUL PRETTY CURE MOVIE CAME OUT?!?!?!?!

everyone over at bird site [derogatory] was posting abt it lol. i didnt realize it was gonna happen so soon.

some stuff was revealed that i want to mention, but to avoid spoiling ppl itll be under the cut

while i havent been watching wonderful actively, i have been keeping track of it from the sidelines and asking friends their opinions on it. seems silly and fun! the villains and conflict seem interesting too, and i find it funny that no one seems to trust the unicorn thing lol. aside from general character dynamics thats about the extent of my knowledge on the series. im planning on checking out the movie once its up on sites, which who knows when thatll happen. i think its scheduled for international release by the end of october but idk if thats accurate to the US. bleh.

the one thing i was looking forward to with wonderful was seeing what they were going to do with daifuku. i know the theory was mid season cure, but now i think everyones confused?? it seems like he and satoru are getting some sort of role in the movie, but im unsure if theyre supposed to be precure. i wont lie, their designs dont really feel like precure outfits. something feels missing when i look at them, especially when put next to the others. maybe theyre too simple? idk. i do like their hats tho, and daifuku's civilian outfit is cute. but maybe theyll grow on me, or maybe theyll just be movie exclusive. we'll just have to wait and see

im also very interested in seeing what they do with the 3D aspect, i think its a medium that will tie in well with the video game theme. ive watched all stars memories, and that movie has some super cool 3D animation. im hoping they can do something fun like that again.

prediction, when i do watch the movie i think im gonna end up liking natsuki lol. idk what her role is supposed to be exactly, she may just end up being one note. but i really like her design, the mask is so gender.

Yup.

I believe they're called tsukumogami, and this isn't the first time Precure has delved into them. The Fresh movie and All-Star Memories feature them as the villains, and just last season Manatsu had to deal with a haunted doll. (Which was actually just Elda playing pretend, but the point stands.)
