@outofthisgxlaxy gets a spontaneous The Future starter!
Tumblr media
She wasn’t going to cry. She wasn’t going to cry. She wasn’t--
Ah, to heck with it.
Tumblr media
The little girl sniffled, wiping tearful eyes on her sleeve. Sure, she got what was going on; sometimes ya just had to move out and move on, no matter how much it hurt. Vanellope figured that, under different circumstances, she might well have done the same thing. Life called to you, an’ you moved on with it; that was how it was.
Didn’t make it easy to say goodbye to th’ best big brother a girl could possibly have asked for, though.
She waited her turn while the Gems said their goodbyes to Steven. They’d been in his life practically forever, from what she gathered, and she she wasn’t just gonna butt in and ruin their moment. Still, when they and Steven finally separated, the little girl slipped around to place herself between Steven and his car.
Tumblr media
“Look at you, all mature an’ everything. You better send me a butt-tonne of postcards from everywhere, okay?”
She tried to keep the quaver out of her voice, didn’t quite manage it.

GUESS WHO KEYED VANELLOPE'S KART AGAIN. IT'S TURBO. HE KEYED "HAVE FUN WATCHING MY BUMPER CROSS THE FINISH LINE 50 TIMES BEFORE YOU CAN PUT YOU EVEN HIT THE GAS."
           HE WOULD.
Tumblr media
                  OF COURSE HE WOULD.
It didn’t take being a genius – let alone an adult – to know who the culprit of this kart-atrophy was. For a moment, the petite racer stood before the hood of her car with tightly balled fists, her jaw shifting from a more ‘laxed hang to tense in what could only be described as child-like huffiness.
How did he manage to spell everything right, too?
The threat of crying out in outburst threatens to flows through her coding like a wave. It always had to be her kart, didn’t it?! But this is how they were; this was the two brats’ dynamic: be the one push the other so far that they combust in a glitch of binary. It was fun, it was exciting, it was them. However, the shock and accompanying irked feeling is only temporary: only the recollection of what she had schemed earlier is what slackens her shoulders.
Somewhere, Vanellope could picture the elder racer sliding into his precious car. With that stupid grin on his face, he would grasp his steering wheel and hit the gas; tires screeching as he headed towards whatever-the-pudding his destination may be. However; exiting his primped and polished vehicle is going to prove very difficult when the black fabric of the driver’s seat and leather steering wheel have been coated in the stickiest dark caramel she could find.
Tumblr media
“ Good thing you love ta’ drive, Turdo,” a pause as a mischievous smile tugs at the corners of the young president’s lips. “ ‘Cause that’s all yer sorry bumper is gonna be doing for’a long time! ”

“BISMUTH---!”
It was as much a shriek of disbelief as it was a cry of the big gem’s name; Vanellope could only gape in horror at what she’d just witnessed.
Everything had been going fine, she’d been chilling with what she thought of as the rest of the Unofficial Garnet Fanclub - mostly herself, Bismuth and Peridot, but she wasn’t really keeping count if any other gems or humans hung around too - while the gems worked on Little Homeworld. All well and good, all fine. She’d just been happily bidding goodbye to the two of them, when...
She stumbled forward, tripping over her own feet in the process as her twitching flared up again, in a desperate scramble to reach the rainbow-haired gem’s side. What she thought she could do, Vanellope wasn’t sure - not when Bismuth had a metal beam thicker than the child’s forearm literally running her through - but maybe she could do something; the girl wasn’t sure, she wasn’t thinking clearly right then. She just wanted to reach her friend--
And then, with a mighty *POOF*, it was too late.
“BISMUTH!”
She shrieked the name again as the beam and Bismuth’s rainbow gemstone hit the ground. Vanellope quite frankly didn’t understand a thing about gem biology, but she also wasn’t thinking clearly enough, right then, to care about such little details as that. As far as she was aware, she’d just seen Bismuth die right in front of her.
Not even Garnet’s presence could soothe her adopted daughter right then.
Tumblr media
“Mom-- Bismuth-- she--”
Tears streaked Vanellope’s face as she finally tore her gaze away from the gemstone lying on the ground ahead of her, slowly raising her gaze to Garnet. For the initial moment, the tall gem’s words weren’t registering at all, because they simply seemed impossible to the traumatised child; but all the same, she stopped trying to explain and, still sniffling, simply crawled towards Garnet, hoping that her mom would know what to do.

“Well, huh. Giant strawberries. That’s not somethin’ you see in a game every day!”
What? So she was game-hopping... but she wasn’t gonna crash the thing out, or ‘go Turbo’, or anything like that. Little girl was just curious... and bored, honestly. Slaughter Race was down for routine maintenance, which was always just about as dull as ditchwater; and besides, the programmers didn’t know she was in the game, so wouldn’t even miss her if she skipped out during that.
So.
She’d gone exploring. Hopped into Steam, then just dived head-first into the first action-adventure game she’d come across. Save the Light, something? Who knew? It was an adventure, that was all she needed to know.
Hadn’t seen anyone else around here yet, though.

“So... friend of Rapunzel, huh?”
She wasn’t one to write the other kid off based on looks or anything - trust her, she’d been on the receiving end of that far too many times herself, in the past - but still... Vanellope couldn’t exactly say that the other dark-haired child looked the type. The red-scarf-wearing girl’s scowl clashed with Rapunzel’s sunny disposition.
But, hey. It wasn’t like she and Ralph exactly looked how you’d expect a pair of best friends to look at first glance, either. So she wasn’t going to judge too far.
And apparently, she and Scowly here had both been on their way to hang our with Rapunzel on Oh My Disney at the same time... only to find that the princess’ schedule was already fully booked before either of them got there. So that left them...
Here. So she was at least trying for some kind of conversation.
Tumblr media
“Ah... how’d you meet her, anyway?”

“The horse is a surprise.” ( Beatrice @ Vanelope, said in a dry tone since she has a horse. Cherrie's most likely sniffing and licking Vanel )
Road to El Dorado  {Sentence Starters}
Tumblr media
“You’re telling me! Whoa, easy, girl!”
Was the horse even a girl? Up this close and personal, Vanellope was having trouble telling; all she could see was a large nose and a wet tongue, and she raised her arms to good-naturedly fend off the overly-friendly creature who seemed to tower over her. The child didn’t much mind getting licked all over by a well-meaning animal; but still, it would be nice to actually see more than an extremely close-up nose in her face.
Ducking out from under the horse’s immediate reach, Vanellope retreated around to the woman’s other side. After wiping horse-slobber off her face with one mint-coloured sleeve, the child looked up at the newcomer.

“So, you two just, what? Decided to stop in at a random game, or...?”

“What? Come to gloat at the ex-president, huh?”
She was trying not to be sore about it, she really was, but... it was hard. After an amazing four years as Sugar Rush’s inaugural president, Vanellope had been fully expecting to breeze through the game’s first election season. Sure, a few other candidates had run, but she’d been confident she could simply coast through on the remaining goodwill from her first term.
Turned out... she apparently hadn’t been as popular a leader as she’d thought.
There was no denying that it had come as a blow to the small girl. Ever since the game had been reset, she’d been on top of the world, running her kingdom and doing what she could to make life better for everyone. It had been great, and she’d honestly thought all of her constituents had felt the same way.
So if, after resoundingly losing the election? She could hardly be blamed if she felt just a little like everyone was out to get her once more. Still, After a few moments more, hazel eyes reluctantly opened to see who had approached her.
Tumblr media
“Hey, Candle.”
Okay, that was at least one person who Vanellope didn’t think would gloat too much. Good enough start for her. “Something I can do for ya?”

Tumblr media
“I’m sorry. I gotta blink. How do you hold your eyes open that long?”
Staring contest? If it was, Vanellope sure wasn’t sure just how it had become one of those... or maybe she’d just completely misinterpreted what Felix was actually doing and it didn’t involve staring at each other like weirdos just for the sake of it. But hey...
If she was wrong, she could say she’d just joined in the staring to poke fun at him, not because she’d actually misunderstood what was going on.

“Okay, so. Before you say anything, this isn’t what it looks like...”
She was the literal president of the game, she couldn’t exactly get into trouble for anything, anyway. But the fact remained that... well...
If this looked bad, that was because it kinda was. Just not in exactly the way it looked. Vanellope had borrowed Taffyta’s kart to take for a little spin, see what the blonde had been complaining about it’s steering being sticky. She hadn’t deliberately landed it nose-first in the taffy swamp.
A lot more than just the steering was sticky, now.
Still, she pasted on a smile for the visitor.

"Oh barf, what is this place? Glittery unicorn central or something?”
Come on, lame.
Vanellope had... just been browsing, honestly. It was her day off from Slaughter Race - apparently you got those, if your game was constantly active 24/7, who knew? Guess even the coolest sprites out there needed a break sometimes - and the girl had just been taking the chance to browse around the web. Sure, she knew that wasn’t always the safest thing to do, there were certain sites that no child was meant to see - she’d needed a bottle of brain-bleach the last time she’d ended up on one of those by mistake, ew - but that hadn’t dampened her confidence any in her ability to find her way around.
Of course, some wrong turns, while less disturbing... weren’t exactly better.
Apparently there was a wiki. That was full of technicolour ponies with cutesy butt-tattoos. She wouldn’t be surprised if they puked rainbows or something.
And she’d, somehow, managed to land herself right in the middle of it, with no clue how to get back.
Tumblr media
“Ah, hey, yeah. Can anyone direct me to out of here as fast as possible? Preferably while I still have my will to live?”
Was she being overdramatic? Perhaps. The last place she’d dismissed as nothing but princesses and cartoon characters had actually been pretty neat, in the end; who was to say the same wouldn’t be the case here? And when she came from a world that was the literal definition of saccharine, she was also probably in no position to judge.
Still, she was a nine-year-old girl. She could be forgiven for being a little dramatic.

“Felix!”
Wow, talk about a face she hadn’t been expecting to see!
With a screech of breaks, the brilliant lime car slid to a halt; and Vanellope wasted no time in leaping out of the driver seat to greet the handyman with a hug. It, ah... hadn’t exactly escaped Vanellope that she’d not said a proper goodbye to anyone else back at the Arcade; and of course, she regretted it, but... if she’d been honest, she hadn’t quite been able to face going back.
She’d needed to keep on with her life, to grow - so to speak - and? Compared to the wide, open web, the Arcade had just felt too stifling to return to, even just to say goodbyes.
But that didn’t mean she cared any the less for her friends from back home; which made it just great to see Felix again. Even if Slaughter Race was literally the last place in the world she would have imagined him being.
Pulling away from the hug, she shrugged slightly.
Tumblr media
“So, hey. Kinda surprised to see you all the way out here.”
It was... not exactly his element, to put it mildly.

She could have made some really great quip here, about the marriage situation. Vanellope didn’t have the whole picture, by any means; but just what Steven was saying now about the proposal was something she would have been happy to make a smart crack at any other day of the week... but somehow, she held her tongue. There were times and places... and when Steven was so clearly going to pieces, this wasn’t one of them.
Honestly? She’d never seen Steven like this. He’d seemed so happy and on top of everything when she’d first met him; and though these days he tended to seem less of both of those things, she’d never imagined he’d just... break down like this.
The poor guy...
Tumblr media
“Hey... hey.”
She patted his knee in a vaguely reassuring way. For once, the little girl’s face was completely open and honest; no trace of her teasing, not fazed by anything manner that she so easily defaulted to. Just, letting her innocent, caring nature show through.
“Look, I’ve not actually met this ‘Connie’ girl. But if she’s half as good a person as you make it sound when you talk about her, she’s not gonna hold it against ya. You just need time ta figure everything out, that’s not a bad thing.”
The rest of it, though? Yeesh, she didn’t even know where to begin with responding to that. She’d come into Steven’s childhood only pretty late; but even then, it had been obvious to Vanellope that he’d had a lot of stuff happening to him. Was it any surprise, really, that he’d picked up a butt-ton of trauma before she’d met him, too?
She leaned back against Steven’s shoulder, a sigh that was only half-sincere leaving her lips. Maybe just the presence of an annoying kid sister who thought Steven was, honestly, no bad person would help somewhat. She could hope, at least.
Tumblr media
“Look, it’s pretty heavy. But let’s be real, you’re not dumping it on me; you’re just getting it off your chest. I’m just here so you’re not just sounding like you’re talkin’ to yourself while you do that, okay?”
He was right, she didn’t have a bunch of the answers. But she did know that bottling everything up inside more and more was a spectacularly dumb idea. It was a mark of her concern for Steven at present, that she wasn’t coming straight out and saying it in as many words.

Tumblr media
“Just ‘cause you’re right about a few things doesn’t mean you’re Homeworld’s gift to the rest of us, okay lady?”
What was she even doing here? Well, Garnet’s daughter had finished school for the day; but her mom had classes to teach at Little Homeschool for the rest of the afternoon. Naturally, rather than returning to an empty home for a few hours, Vanellope had headed out to catch up with her just as soon as she got out of her own school.
She’d evidently found the wrong classroom on the first try.
Not that that fact would deter Vanellope at all. She’d kinda hung around the class anyway, just chilling... at least, until the yellow lady had started to rub her the wrong way. That attitude of you’re wrong and I’m better than you was one that was all too familiar to Vanellope, her bullies back before Garnet adopted her had reeked of it; and while, back then, she’d just kinda rolled over and taken it?
Yeah, no. Not gonna happen anymore.
Tumblr media
“So give it a rest an’ stop being so smug. Some of us are smart too, you know.”
Did she genuinely think she was as smart as the pearl? Vanellope didn't know... but she’d tackle that head-on, if challenged on it.

Note
Do you also 'Try' AU of your characters? I was thinking in suggest to 'Try' a Gothic or Dark Vanellope that never meet Ralph and in the end get depressed enough or decides that if everyone is against her, she will be against all.
Send me ‘Try’ and a character and I will write how I would play that character
Tumblr media
She’d had it.
Had it, had it, HAD IT.
Taffyta ‘n the others all thought they could just push her around, stomp all over her, treat her like dirt? Like they always had done, for as long as she could remember? For, how many years had it been now? Fifteen? Twenty? Thirty?
They were about t’ learn that dirt could fight back.
For years. For years and years and YEARS she had, if not exactly let the other kids shove her around, then at least not put up a massive resistance in the hope that, maybe, they’d one day get bored of their game of trampling her self-worth into the dirt and just... accept her instead. She wasn’t asking a lot, even; she just wanted them to respect her, to acknowledge that she was just like one of them. Not some weird, different, diseased loser to shove around and take the piss of every time it suited them.
Yeah, that had gone just about as well as you’d expect.
Tumblr media
But now? A certain line had been crossed; call it the candy straw that broke the camel’s back. The one final humiliation that tipped the poor girl over from just wanting to be accepted to...
Wanting something more satisfying than that.
Wanting to bring down on everyone else’s heads something of what they’d been doing to her all these years.
They deserved it, every single one of ‘em. Taffyta an’ Candlehead an’ Rancis. The other kids. His Royal Buttface King Candy. Everyone in this game who didn’t even have the slightest ounce of compassion for one tiny, lonely girl who just wanted someone to accept her.
...
So she'd to sabotaged the race track.
Not during game hours of course, she wasn’t dumb. But just before the next random roster race, she planned to deliberately collapse one of the crucial ramps right as the racers got to it, dumping into the taffy swamp below any of them unlucky enough to not stop in time. That stuff could gum up a car’s engine like nobody’s business, and was downright painful to remove when it got all over you, to boot - guess who she had to thank for finding that out, Taffyta - and honestly? She was feeling vengeful enough to enjoy every moment of the racers’ suffering.
Thanks to her many years of living rough, she knew this game inside and out in a way that no-one else did. If she wanted to, she could make life really miserable for everyone, then disappear in an instant, and they’d never be able to catch her.
And she wanted it. She’d played nice for far too long, even in the face of constant revulsion and ridicule and even outright cruelty. Now, it was time to play them at their own game.
Tumblr media
It was a game she was sure to win.
