i kinda want to know what do you consider new phannies? i’m not really asking for myself i got into them in 2015 so i think i qualify as not new but i personally think of like 2019ish or later as new even though that’s like 4 years now 😭

there's layers of old but i think anyone who got here from 2019 onward will forever be a new phannie to me! i'm forever delighted by the fact that people are still discovering them but you simply have to have experienced the closeted era to truly count as an old timer and there's nothing that can change that!

i do think there's levels of fandom-age, too. like, original phillies who were around before dan & people who were around before the halloween leak of the vday vid in 2012, that's true phandom olds to me. there's a difference between the aftermath/radio show era, when i showed up, & the tatinof era once they'd settled in to the closet, but having been around in any regard at any of those points makes you some level of old timer.

the endpoint/turning point towards coming out was them moving out of the first london apartment & dan rebranding, so like, spring 2017 through the gaming channel hiatus is an era where like? if you showed up then you're not a newbie, you've been around the block, but it also doesn't qualify you as fandom old bc the horrors were mostly over by then.

none of that is coming from a place of pretentiousness or judgement either! just being honest that nobody escaped the trenches of the past unscathed.

Q: After debut, Fall Out Boy has been rising in popularity world wide, what do you think fans are enthusiastic about?  

Pete: There’s two things, and one is Patrick’s voice. His voice is different from that of other young rock band’s vocalists in tone and feel. Second thing is that we go to various different countries to play shows. Fans want to see bands perform in person at concerts, but in many cases, bands can’t do so.

Q: How to define Fall Out Boy’s music. From punk to heavy metal, it even merges hip hop. 

Pete: People call us “pop punk, punk rock,” but it’s difficult to say which genre it really is. Just as it’s difficult for you to define who you are. 

Q: You can feel the sense of wit when you listen to Fall Out Boy’s music. How do you make music?  

Pete: Haha, that’s a secret… To be honest, I don’t know how I come up with ideas for lyrics either. Because it just comes out. But for Patrick, he seems to get ideas for music from his experiences. 

Q: Over the years, You’ve worked with many musicians including Elvis Costello, Lil Wayne, John Mayer, Jay-Z and Babyface. Any fun anecdotes? 

Pete: It’s always an honor to work with great musicians. At first, we were worried that we’d get rejected if we asked them to participate in our albums. But thankfully, everyone agreed readily and we had a good time working together. Elvis Costello, in particular, amazed us with his charisma the moment he walked into the studio, but it was good to hear his secrets on having a long lasting career while still having fun making music. I think he’s a really cool musician. 

Q: Any words for Korean fans eagerly waiting for the concert in Korea? 

Pete: I’m sorry that it took so long for us to go to Korea. As it’s our first concert in Korea, we’re also looking forward to it. It’s very exciting to be able to go to Korea. I’m looking forward to meeting you soon and having a fun time!

the thing about jack hughes is every fact ive learned about jack hughes has come to me inadvertently or against my will. i don't know how he works. i don't know what he thinks about. to me he reads almost as a youngest child trapped in a middle sibling's body. i like when he gets fed up with reporters asking inane or leading questions? he seems a little enamored with everyone on his team, which, good for him. hope he is getting the attention and/or dicking down he desires, and fully scarring his brothers along the way

Like.....this is JUST pre-hiatus, and it's ONLY explicit (or near explicit) lyrics telling someone to kill themselves, die, or that they hate you, and it's not even all of them. There are a lot more that are just allusions to this.

AND this is not including all the lyrics about being suicidal, committing suicide, drug abuse, self sabotage, or weird sex shit. Love it.

there’s mean people everywhere ofc but every fall out boy fan i know is so genuinely loving and generous and community-oriented and it’s kind of hilarious that fall out boy’s actual music is like 85% about how much they hate you and want you to kill yourself
