I live in Dallas.

When something like this happens and you hear about it, it effects you more when it happens in your own backyard. The fact that so much hatred even exists baffles me. 5 people will not be going home to their families. I know members of the Dallas police department. Seeing the video footage of them running in the opposite direction of everybody else, running towards the gunshots, makes me all at once proud and saddened. And for this to happen so close to home is terrifying.

But despite this, we can NOT confuse facts with speculation. As of right now, they have not connected the shooters with any sort of movement. They have not found any evidence to connect them with the earlier protest. We can not focus on blaming each other when we should be standing together behind the DPD.

DON’T FIGHT VIOLENCE WITH VIOLENCE. And I’m saying this also to people who want to do something in response to this. It doesn’t work and only ends in horror and sadness. KILLING IS NOT THE ANSWER NO MATTER WHO YOU ARE OR WHAT YOU STAND FOR.

Stay safe out there.
