DPxDC #21
Danny is a homeless kid in Gotham. He lives in Red Hoods' territory. His nickname is Numbers. A couple of kids learned he was good with numbers and quizzed him, and he got them all correct, hence Numbers. Danny loves living in Gotham, well as much as a 15-year-old homeless kid whose parents hate his existence can.
Danny is one of the kids who, when they find out info about people going against Red Hoods' rules, will report them to him. Tonight is one of those nights. Danny had learned someone sold drugs to a kid in the Alley. Danny made sure to retrieve the drugs from the kid, Stiches, and made sure the kids' friend, Patches, looked after him. cause even if Stitches wasn't able to take the drugs before Danny stepped in, the psychological damage of almost relapsing is tough, especially for a kid that couldn't be older than 12.
So Danny is on the lookout for Hood when he sees a group of people on top of a building, one of them being Batman. Danny knows that while not published Hood is connected to the Bat.
Danny scales the building and sees that its the Justice League and Batman.
Danny turns to the JL
Danny: do you have permission to be in Gotham?
Without giving them time to answer he turns to Batman
Danny: Did you give them permission? Or do you need help getting the Just Losers outta here?
Green Lantern (Hal): wha? huh, Kid?
Batman cracks a barely there smile, unnoticed by everyone, at the JL being called Just Losers.
Batman: they are allowed. Now kid what do you need?
Danny: I have info for Hood and I know you bats are all connected.
Batman gets Hood on coms.
Hood: *in Bruce's ear, but still heard by Danny* what do you want old man I'm busy.
Batman: hn a kid is here asking for you.
Danny: tell him it's Numbers
Hood: oh shit what's he got for me this time.
Danny: *tells Bats the situation* should I give the drugs to Batman?
JL in the background horrified to learn so much about Gothams' underground. (like this shit doesn't occur in their cities too)
Batman: yes I will make sure they get back to Hood so he can test and deal with them.
Danny: Cool cool
Danny does a drug deal with Batman.
Danny: so why are the Just Losers here?
Danny dislikes the JL, they never helped Amity. Dannys has gotten better with the bats thanks to Hood.
Danny: is it for the outsider setting up shop in the warehouse by the docks? With the sketchy af alien tech?

So many people on that poll voting ‘the sun doesn’t love us’ like you fool. She kisses you every morning and reaches out to caress you every evening. She grows the food you eat. She shines so brightly she is burning with love for her beloved earth.
‘But she burned me!’ Does a lover never bite the lip of their companion a little too hard sometimes? You can choose to put on sunscreen. She can’t choose to extinguish her heart.
The sun loves us. Maybe a bit too much. But it’s love all the same.

Y'all do know you can't make Jason be NOT white without changing his whole character, right?
For other characters, yes, because their physical appearance are not that influential in their story, on how they are viewed by people, on their personality formation — you can have a black/asian/indigenous/arab/brown/latino/etc Nico and yes, the hate he gets will have a undertone of racism but at the same time nothing significant on his story, motivation or personality will need to change. This is also true for other characters: Clarisse risks repeating the "aggressive WoC" stereotype but the character itself doesn't change.
This isn't true for Jason, whose main character trait is how he is perceived by others and how he showcases himself to others based on that perception. (specially with how little effort Riordan put on him besides making him perfect-er Percy who's somehow also weaker and less important than him).
Let's not pretend a black, Arab, indigenous, Asian, Latin man, etc, in the USA would ever be treated with the universal reverence Jason gets from New Roma, you can't have the illusion of perfection and most of all, of invincibility they have about him when you see him suffering racism or xenophobia in the middle of a mission. In theory, nothing in his life has ever gone wrong, that's his image, destined to be king, he is supposed to have no weakness on his peers eyes.
He is not trying to prove people wrong, he is trying to prove them right; he isn't worthy despite their prejudice, on the contrary, he only tried to make himself worthy to fulfill their expectations. He can't be a woman or an immigrant or have a visible disability or any other thing that strays him from a perfect ideal by western society standards, and be that same character.
#Different from the other white character in the series he was never questioned or doubted#There's a presumption of perfection with no exceptions that society doesn't give to us (women poc immigrants visible minorities in general)#His privilege (handsome white man with no visible disability son of Zeus etc) also prevented anyone from worrying for his well being#This illusion/expectation of him having no weakness/being untouchable pushes himself too far and clouds his judgment.#I headcanon he didn't even consider the possibility of myopia because that wouldn't fit Jason Grace Son of Jupiter so it wasn't an option#And you think it'd be the same character after facing racism? Because ain't no way he'd be praetor without going through racism#I think I'd love him nonetheless since I'm very weak to the whole golden boy tearing himself to save the world but it'd be a new character#jason grace#I know racism in USA is different from here but I know how different a “non-racist” white person treats me and treats my white friends#Also for him to not be an entirely different character if PoC would be incredibly disrespectful and racist on its own#It would fail to recognize the difference in how we are read (and written). I hate that a lot.#I remember that when Cody told Brandi “I see no color” she told him “then you don't see me” and that's so fucking striking#We ARE different. treated differently. if you act like you don't see it then you also turn a blind eye to the violence that comes from it#This is straying from my point I got a bit heated banalization of things I care about usually does that to me#Point is please don't change Jason on the very few things that man actually bothered writing about him#I actually think this is true about Octavian too. A lot of what he is allowed to do would not be possible if he weren't a white man.#Same for Rachel Elizabeth Dare. I mean you can work around making her poc but it will truly be pushing A LOT#Let's put it this way: a woc doing a street performance is perceived very differently from a white woman doing a street performance.#Specially in the eyes of cops#Pjo

i feel like for the rest of my life i will be walking around totally normal and then periodically, i will be absolutely brained with a metaphorical anvil falling off the side of a building that represents the absolute bafflement i have towards modern adaptations of sherlock holmes and their treatment of irene adler. bbc's most recent adaptation in particular.
im so sorry. please repeat. she was stupid u say??? and i'm sorry, IN LOVE with him u say??????
i'm a feminist so i think women are capable of being in love and also of being stupid. they can do anything they put their minds to ofc ❤️. but this is too far even for me.
it's just that i can't understand why you would choose to write a narrative that is more mysoginistic than the source material when the source material was written in 1891.
was it intentional? did they somehow not pick up on the implications? was it random?
i can't fathom it. it keeps me awake.
#sherlock holmes#irene adler#bbc sherlock#guy ritchie sherlock holmes#that one noir holmes set in the 40s?#idk i might have made that up#you know what actually i'm thinking about the guy richie one now too#GOD!!!!!!!#men should me shot in the streets for what they did to my girl#it's just the complete inability to imagine her as being powerful in any way that does not relate to being underestimated as a woman#which is not to say that this is not an interesting thread to explore in a more thorough character study#but!#the notion that who she is as a character is the unique utilization of feminity and sexuality to obstruct the power of men#thereby making her own power a power only in reaction#does such a disservice to the core of her initial character and the point that she made#and also this relates to the obsession with adler as a villain#because adler isn't necessarily smarter than holmes - she totally may be - but that doesn't actually matter#what matters is that she outsmarts him#and she wins at the game he plays#she tails him - she disguises herself and isn't recognized - she preempts his actions through logical analysis (she takes his role)#and equally important - she holds the moral high ground she protects the vulnerable#so many of the cases holmes takes on deal with the exploitation of women by society - motherhood marriage reputation gendered labor#this is a case where holmes has become the perpetrator of a crime he would usually work to prevent or avenge#adler takes up his role where he has failed terribly to do so - as a result her power within this narrative is identical to his#it doesn't come from her gender or even necessarily from her intelligence (though these are important traits)#narratively speaking at least - she wins because she deserves to and her morality gives her power#it is that power which is always what i think is important about sherlock holmes when he lives up to it#to me he never truely wins by being smart - he only ever wins by being kind and wanting people to be safe and treated fairly#ALSO WHERE IS HER HUSBAND WHO SHE LOVES AND WHO RESPECTS HER YOU FIENDS!!!!!! she could never love holmes! she is loved by a better man#sorry!!!

thinking back to that one scene in ORS where Kohane is thinking over when she first stepped into Weekend Garage (An singing in the back blowing her away) and when she goes through the door she is attacked by bisexuality (AkiAnToya singing and then she internal monologues over how she wants to protect this feeling and sing with them and other mushy things). this is truly the most polysquad moment ever holy bingle.

colleis personality functionally being left to the ether because her webtoon iteration is at such fundamental odds with her game iteration that any attempts to temper between the two just range so dramatically
#each collei is a beautiful macrocosmic specimen to be analyzed in its own right#i do think the best and most canon-adherent way to reconcile between the two though is to recognize her emulation of amber#in both personality and appearance#as pretty much an explicitly canon thing if albeit exclusive to the game#& while i think it was meant to be a like. cute moeblob marketing strat and not a genuine extension of how she might develop#post black fire incident#it does tie really well into the webtoon establishing collei's fundamental lack of self identity & her pathological need to assume a Role#as per lee @haidengjie's dissertation: shes always either the unclean or the plague or the villain. shes never just collei#the last time she was seen as purely just Collei was also the last time she ever heard her mothers voice....#and ever since she has been denied the opportunity to exist even as a person w basic human rights#shes never been allowed to be simply just a child let alone herself#amber befriending collei for who she is & demonstrating she sees her more than just some street rat (who had KILLED TWO DIPLOMATIC ENVOYS#NONETHELESS) & insisting she would never abandon her#just changed. everything. for the first time there was no role to play no stage no script#the curtains fell... god i still love that scene Collei is just trying so hard to play the villain and amber obstinately refuses to let her#insisting that they are both friends and equals and wholeheartedly believing in collei's capacity for good and kindness#ITS SOOO INTERESTING BECAUSE OF COURSE AS SOON AS COLLEI LEARNS SHE DOESNT HAVE TO PLAY A ROLE#SHE'LL STILL SCRAMBLE NONETHELESS FOR A NEW ONE BECAUSE ITS ALL SHES EVER KNOWN#SO OF COURSE SHE WOULD TAKE UP THE ROLE OF AMBER!!!!!!! *WALKSINTO A LARGE PIT#god im still upset about windblume though they contextualized her amber roleplay as a coping mechanism#not for her identity issues or general ptsd but instead this like. palatable relatable version of social anxiety#which dont get me wrong i do adore and relate to that aspect of colleis character a lot but its coming from a framework that completely#disregards her personality from her source material and it really just feels like a flanderization to appear more marketable#Okay i have homeowrk to do byebye

okay old thread was getting long
but I gotta admit they're doing a GREAT job of throwing in plenty for the lore geeks amongst us, because axebeaks appeared onscreen during a chase for about 5 seconds and my entire inner monologue became
AXEBEAKS !

[A] is a character who is in an emotionally-delicate state and needs constant contact with someone to feel stable. [B] is the only person [A] feels understands them, so they form a close relationship with [B]. Little does [A] know, [B] is also in an emotionally-delicate state, but they need to be away from people 24/7; so [B] never calls [A], because [A] never gives them enough time to recharge before they call again.
As a result, [A] believes [B] to be just like the rest of people; they think [B] finds them annoying and doesn’t care about them. But nothing could be further from the truth; [B] may not ever go out of their way to contact [A] willingly, but [A] is the only person [B] ever talks to. [B] doesn’t find [A] annoying in particular; [B] finds anyone who tries to talk to them annoying, but finds [A] less annoying than most, because [A] is like them, letting [B] vent on them for hours because they recognize no one else will give them that quality time. [B] becomes jaded with so-called “extroverts” because they shun [A] for their quirks, and let all the duties of being a halfway-decent emotional support fall to them.
#writing prompts#whump#angst#I’m [B]#When you create a hostile environment for someone because they’re “annoying”#Be aware that the person you shun is suffering because of you#and somewhere out there an easily-drained (equally-weird) introvert is cleaning up your mess#because you couldn’t find it within yourself to show even a shred of basic human decency#I’m not a nice person; everyone thinks I’m nice because I don’t ostracize weirdos… WELL GUESS FUCKING WHAT#Weirdos are human beings with all the same needs as you oh normal person#You don’t recognize that I’m a weirdo too because I’m quiet and don’t fuck with social interaction if I don’t have to#So you label me as shy and try to include me because you feel sorry for me when I want to be permanently left alone#But when a weirdo wants social interaction; you don’t give it to them because they’re “too much?” You’re weak.#And they say neurotypicals read social cues? aha hahaha#Fuck off#This is how it is with me; this is how it always has been and will continue to be#I cannot be everyone’s support system.#I’m not nice. I avoid walking on the same side of the street as people because I hate talking to strangers#I never say hello unless someone says hello to me first (unless I need something from someone)#I don’t like it when people talk to me when I’m doing anything that doesn’t require speaking#I actively avoid the sound of human conversation because it’s overwhelming (especially if the people in question are loud and emphatic)#I don’t go outside if the neighbors are out there because I don’t want to talk to them (even if they’re genuinely nice)#When I am in a conversation I don’t listen to what the other person is saying and I’m just waiting to say what I want to say#(which never happens because everyone talks right over me unless their speaking skills are lesser than my own)#(but if the other person is more awkward or introverted than me; I feel more inclined to listen because I know they’ll listen to me)#But yeah. I’m decent; not nice. There’s a difference.#People think that because I draw pictures for them that I really care for them.#No… It’s easier for me to draw than it is to write a thank you card (I always use the same sentence structure for thank you cards#so my words are never genuine)… I’d rather just repay them with a good or service; so they get a drawing.#idk thank you cards (in some situations) just seem fake and tacky to me

It's actually kinda funny.
Like.
I do GET where the MobRei/ReiMob shippers are coming from, but on the other hand I just sit there like...
Reigen may be scummiest piece of shit on this earth but he's not THAT sort of scummy piece of shit on this earth.
Actually, I also kinda doubt that he'd go for Serizawa either.
Not ~ONLY~ because that dude just SCREAMS AroAce vibes all over the fucking place (I mean. Hello? Season 2 Episode 3?*)
But also because Reigen doesn't seem like the sort of person who'd go after his subordinates/underlings/employees (which Mob and Serizawa ARE).
(Hehehe, this actually gives me kinda tragic backstory ideas for him, like another, secret reason why he stopped working at an office and started to work on his own to be his own boss) (and before you ask, no, I will most likely not write it, because I am not a writer.)
JUST BEFORE EVERYONE STARTS SHIT WITH ME LIKE THE MEDIA DID IN SEASON 2, I AM NOT AGAINST ANY SHIPPING, AND I ACTUALLY LIKE ALL THE SHIPPY ART (BECAUSE IT'S FUCKING CUTE AND AWESOME AND YOU ALL ARE SO FUCKING TALENTED AND I LOVE YOU ALL!!!
*) Dude's at least questioning if "Love" NEEDS to have "sexual stuff" involved, and that's just one of THE Ace takes. (Sure, the straighties do KNOW about "familial love", but they don't seem to categorize it as "love", y'know? I dunno, just from what I see they're really weird about the concept of love anyway...

oh another thing about "Miss Scarlet and the Duke" s2.01--I love Hattie. I might actually die for her. I hope she and Eliza become the best of friends.
#saw someone else in the tag talking about how this show doesn't work so well for them bc Eliza tends to use people#and it often feels like there's no reciprocity to her relationships--she just demands things to balance out the injustice she faces#and goes on about life as though that's normal and ok#and... yeah she does tend to not think of people's feelings very much. that's definitely a flaw to her.#in fact despite his temper and inability to respect Eliza's POV on things--William is the one who usually showcases more compassion#at least openly#and I really hope that the writers are aware of this quality in Eliza. I hope it's something that she'll come to recognize eventually#and grow out of#/or/ it's a writing/characterization misstep in the first season and will be remedied as the show goes along#but I feel like Hattie in this episode was a good example to the contrary#sure there's some 'business potential' to Eliza inviting her to tea#but I appreciate it nonetheless. and I hope we see more of this kinder side to Eliza going forward.#her strength is in how she listens to them even when no one else will. how her contacts are saloon girls and street boys because she can't#get information through official channels as easily as she can through them. now if she could just carry that over into#personal interactions as well#(though tbh. I will add. Eliza's insensitivity to both social situations and other people's feelings#dooeessss read as a bit neurodivergent at times. and I can definitely appreciate that.#though I think possibly an arc of her learning to be kinder and more caring for people as people and not merely as resources and contacts#would possibly be an even more compelling one if viewed through this lens.)#miss scarlet and the duke#gurt says stuff

There's also an element of self-policing. If you're afraid that you're going to get assaulted every time you go out alone, the more likely you are to isolate yourself inside. The more likely you are to believe that you need an escort when you go out. It's harder to feel confident and self-reliant if you're afraid of strangers. It's harder to do things for yourself when you feel weak. And so a lot of women feel like they don't have autonomy to go out at night or go out alone & live in fear that something will happen to them. They don't live full & happy lives because someone/society has convinced them that not only are they a perpetual target, but also that they would not be able to fight for themselves if they needed to. And, in my opinion, this mindset opens those women up to a very real kind of manipulative, controlling domestic abuse which is far more common than random attackers on the street. So yeah... idk, women. I think it's good to take defense classes or do anything at all that you need to do to feel more confident to move about freely in the world. You don't have to accept the narrative that men are by default more powerful than you, that you have no control in an assault situation, or that you must keep yourself quiet and out of the way to be less of a target. You can be powerful and capable and that isn't to say you shouldn't stay aware of your surroundings or write off *any* potential threat as harmless, but rather to say that it is not as common as you are being led to believe and you have more options than to shrink back and let the fear take you.
Idk like I think there's a really misogynist way that women are expected to consider being murdered and assaulted as like 1000x worse than anything else that could happen and do everything possible to avoid it and like it's unarguably bad! But constantly whenever I mention going hiking or whatever people are like 'omg you're going camping alone as a woman??? what if you get murdered?????' Actually by far the way I am most likely to die doing that is... some sleep deprived or drunk driver crashing into me on the way there! But no one tells you to avoid driving, meanwhile there's so much pressure on women to like, always stay in other crowded super safe areas or at home to Protect Their Virtue and it's like lol I would actually rather live an interesting life doing things that I enjoy
