he feels wrong. and it's hard for him to explain if you ask about it, but the best he's come up with is that it's like his cells know that being here is wrong and they just didn't click quite right into place where they should have. like an itch you can never scratch. always there in the back, just lingering and irritating.

and it's mostly because of that Grant's so fucking reckless. (Flashbacks to Robin: "Red X could be anyone. Anyone smart enough to find the suit, and dumb enough to take it for a joyride.") it borders on suicidal ideation honestly. if you're a cape and think cornering is gonna work? think again. (flashbacks to the time Robin swiped the power belt and backed him up to an edge of a cliff with rocks at the bottom. X JUST SALUTED AND JUMPED OFF) there's no sense of self-preservation here folks. and if grant thinks you might fall into the no kill rule, he's gonna test that. one of us here is okay with tripping the powerbelt to make it explode, is it really you?

a different side of this coin is seeing the ripples of it everywhere else. in threads i've had before grant's referenced "i woke up in a whole new world" and he's not far off. because his entire family is different now in ways that really made him realize just how impactful dying was to everyone else. Slade devolved to lows grant wouldn't have thought he'd be willing to cross (see last post). Adeline expanded Searchers Inc to terrifying scopes. Making it not only world-wide, but essentially her own personal CIA. Like she was determined to control the world's affairs since she'd lost control of her own. Joey, who was too good to fight when Grant last saw him, somehow ended up joining a superhero club that pretty much does nothing but fight. and in the midst of all that, he gained a half sister who was just as broken as the rest of them

and after seeing all that, staying 'dead' became preferable. because he doesn't know how to interact with this new family that exists now. and after changing so much, he doesn't know how they'd handle his resurrection. the X persona is a safer place than confronting any of the emotional fallout

"Oh, ew, gross. Do you two need a room? Because this roof? Ain't the one." Red Robin complained.

The hard part about this fight was catching the teleporting menace. But his Robin could fly much faster than he ever did. The powersuit whirred up, and as Red X re-appeared, he was slammed into the ground and powerbelt fizzing.

Staff to chest, the young teenager ordered with a smirk, "X marks the spot. I love that you're a walking target. Design win." "Red Robin... As amusing as this is-" Batman's voice rang out with a chuckle, "Yeah, yeah, I got it." The younger tossed him said belt, before letting him go. Batman crouched low in front of the thief, holding it out in with mild exasperation, "What's with the sudden drop in? You working with... Searchers now, or something?"
