So, lore?
Lo'en is a half elf and across the world there are designated elven kingdoms. One of them! Where she was born and her mother (elf) still lives, is frigid and in the north. Humans still have an odd tradition for Santa and so she hides her slightly pointed ears so that she doesn't have to sit through ANOTHER "Saint Nick" story that the northern elf king refuses to be offended by. His name is Niklava and he rather LIKES the association of how giving the cold can be! Lo'en could easily live without hearing another comment about ol' Saint Nick and his elves though.
Hold, while technically human/mortal, is cursed to live life over and over. And he has plant/green powers. He gets a lot of the "oh you'll grow up to be fine one of these days!" "you're still a sprout in this life time" "you still have time to bloom then!" and he also hates it.
Because Hold has to continue living even after he dies (though his body regresses to a child like age as he "recovers from death") he's absolutely enamored with Lo'en who just continues to exist. Her life span is way longer than a humans, longer than his /should/ be. And he admires her a lot and is really grateful to have her around for so many of his lives lived. Lo'en is relieved to have someone she gets along with who won't die and leave her forever. He dies, sure, but he gets better.
Lo'en meets Hold first while during one of his sister's dead phases so that's why the two are much closer than Lo'en is to Hold's sister. The two girls do help keep Hold safe when he's dead but they aren't super best friends or anything.
#my characters#phew ok had to think of a way to keep loen alive long enough to matter in the many lives of hold and his sister#also they have a teacher/instructor who loves to make the really bad jokes that theyve both heard a lot#but the teacher does help so she gets a pass to an extent#loen still rants and vents to hold about her tho like OH COME ON IVE BEEN ALIVE LONG ENOUGH NONE OF THOSE ARE FRESH#loen also thought for the longest time she would grow cold and distant - like her powers are as cold as she expected to be after centuries#but she met hold and he warms her up and fills her with joy and delight and she cherishes him more than she can say#and in contrast hold acknowledges the irony of never knowing death for long and for having the powers of plant growth#and he thought fate was being cruel but loen appears while hes mourning and lonely without his sister#and she tells him while he might be lonely its absolutely beautiful to her that he continues to live his lives to the fullest#and that opens his eyes to the fact its really not so bad if he cant fully die#hes had his sister by his side for it and now he has a friend who he cherishes#anyway they love each other a whole lot and its cute but bittersweet and then shit hits the fan so ya know#shrugs have them being annoyed at the constant comments they get no matter how obvious it should be that they hear them enough

Do psychotropic drugs and/or ritual play a role in any of the blightseed cultures? A pretty broad question, lol
Yeah that’s a very broad question, the answer is about as much as it tends to play roles in real history. Alcohol is pretty ubiquitous (outside of cultures that abstain from intoxicants) and used for a variety of purposes, opioids are commonly used in some parts for pain relief or recreational purposes, stimulants (usually in mild, natural forms) are used to provide extra energy, and hallucinogens are most commonly used as part of a larger religious framework (rather than for recreational purposes). Any more elaborate answer kinda has to be case by case in a certain culture or part of the setting.
I'll just take this as an opportunity to talk about the one established sect that pretty much REVOLVES around psychoactive use. This is the Scholarly Order of the Root, which is a sort of mystery religion + elite community of scholars who currently occupy the Ur-Tree and its forest in the far southern Lowlands (southeast of Imperial Wardin, on the same land mass).
The Ur-Tree is the obligatory Huge Fucking Fantasy Tree (and its surrounding forest). It’s a mass of vegetation about a mile tall and almost as old as Plant Life Itself, its upper branches are primeval plants, which become more modern the nearer they get to the ground (and each 'level' holds tiny ecosystems, some containing descendants of LONG-extinct arthropods/other small animals). Its lowest branches and the surrounding forest are contemporary plant life, and all is connected and protected by an incomparably MASSIVE fungal mycelium network (which is itself a living god).
A lot of the Scholars' more secretive practices revolve around experimentation with substance use with the goal of expanding the Mind and transcending the body to fully connect to the Dreamlands, and they have a supply chain of traders and mercenaries called Rootrunners who traffic substances into the Lowlands. Most of their psychoactive use is in a very intentional capacity and not just like, for fun, but a LOT of them are just straight up addicted to cocaine (in the form of alchemically refined bruljenum, which is used for practical purposes of its stimulant effect during long hours of work).
All known psychoactives are desirable for experimentation (particularly hallucinogens), with each having properties that either allow expansion of the Mind, transcendence of the body, or outright divine communion. Their effects are logged in great detail and interpreted to form the basis of the Scholars' understanding of the natural world and reality itself.
The most important substance is Ur-Root, which is root matter from subterranean levels of the Ur-Tree that have both their own intrinsic psychoactive substances and a very, very high concentration of living god mycelium. The tree root contains DMT and the mycelium has its own wholly unique effects (being an actual living god). They alchemically refine it into a purer, more potent form, and use it to expand beyond the body and directly commune with the Giants, a group of entities they have identified as the only true gods.
An Ur-Root trip starts off with minor visual distortion, which turns into shifting fractals that slowly obscure the vision. Eventually the senses are entirely taken over by a 'tunnel' of rapidly shifting fractals and geometries. In a complete trip, the experiencer gets a sense that they have been pushed through a membrane and entered another realm, finding themselves in a distinct experiential Space.
At this point they may encounter entities which communicate to them in a language impossible to describe but wholly understood. These beings are understood to be the Giants, or at least aspects of the Giants that mortals are capable of comprehending (they often take familiar tutelary forms of the Mantis or the Snake, or appear resembling the same type of sophont that the experiencer is, all composed of ever-shifting geometries). The experiencer often feels a sense of unconditional and endless love from these beings, though the Giants may be more hostile and may appear in the form of the Trickster (usually a cultural figure regarded as malicious, be it an animal or otherwise) in a bad trip.
(^Up until this point, this has mostly just been a DMT 'breakthrough' experience ft. 'machine elves' and the like).
They are then removed from this space and returned to something that feels like the real world, but is nearly unrecognizable. They have a sense of rapidly moving through time, and will usually see 'the spires' towards the beginning, which just so happen to look like this:
(source + some context via Implication- the spires are exactly what this art is depicting)
The experiencer continues to move across an unfathomable amount of time, occasionally 'seeing' other such flashes of unfamiliar landscapes and creatures, and yet also being devoid of all their senses, the 'seeing' is pure, unfiltered experience. There is a sense of interconnectedness with all life, and that one has become the forest (or even Life) itself. The sense of time is wildly distorted, the trip lasts only about 5 minutes but feels like an eternity and is understood as literal hundreds of millions of years.
The experiencer has usually lost any remaining sense of Self and individual consciousness during this phase (in which case this time distortion is usually a neutral or even peaceful experience), but some retain a fraction of their identity, and find themselves trapped and conscious while experiencing what feels like eternity (which can be LIFE-CHANGINGLY distressing, even after the fact).
(^This latter part of the trip is the effects of the Ur-Tree fungus).
The trip ends with a sense of rushing through the ground and back up into one's body, at which point they will abruptly return to their senses and consciousness. The details are then immediately retrieved via interview and recorded in immense detail. The whole experience is understood as having been full comprehension of the Dreamlands, communion with the Giants, and then a tour through the act of creation.
This is done as part of the initiatory practice into the inner mystery-religion of the scholars, and as needed for study by high scholar-priests. It is not taken lightly, both as it is absolute communion with the gods and reality, and in that it can be a very, very difficult experience. People who have gone through this often walk away with a permanently shifted perspective, often in a positive and/or comforting way- a sense of interconnectedness with all life, a peace with the concept of death, seeing less of a point in individual ego and the concept of Self, and comfort in the sense of divine love they (may have) experienced. This heavily influences the philosophy of the Scholars and has had effects by proxy in the religious worldviews of the region.
Details of this experience are closely guarded, and initiates are given absolutely no prior knowledge and expectations for their trip. This is seen as a necessity- their naivety will allow for a true, unfiltered experience, and can be used to gauge whether they should or should not be accepted. Those that have a distinctly bad trip upon initiation may be assumed to have been 'rejected' by the giants and thus denied full priesthood, though this largely depends on How they interpret their distressing trip- those who identify this as a test and harsh lesson in a journey to enlightenment may be accepted (as this is how fully initiated scholar-priests interpret and handle their bad trips).
This inner priesthood is only a small fraction of the Scholarly Order, and its greater function is as a hub of education and repository of knowledge, and Scholar-trained doctors can provide some of the best medical care available in the setting ('best medical care in this setting' only means so much but it's pretty solid, relatively speaking). Only a chosen few Scholars ever get to commune with the Ur-Root, and most of the divine secrets revealed in the process are kept hidden (though they indirectly influence the politics and worldview of the entire order).
#I'm kind of fascinated by the quasi-religious beliefs that have developed around recreational hallucinogen use (ESPECIALLY DMT)#In contrast to like. Uses of DMT-containing substances like ayahuasca for long-established religious purposes#So this concept is basically 'what if a religion was FORMED from pretty much the ground up out of DMT usage'#Like the common 'entities' people encounter in recreational use being identified as the Real Gods and producing a religious worldview#that is mostly rooted in this experience (while still influenced by other cultural factors)#Also the like. Meta going on here is that the fungus is a 'living god' and the oldest one on the planet#It is a VERY rare type of living god that is 'created' by non-sophont (non-sentient even) beings and exists as a mycelial network#that perfectly supports and protects an entire forest. Basically a god for plants. It is so deeply interconnected with its forest that the#usual power sophont belief would have over it has basically zero influence. This is absolutely the closest thing to A God in canon.#(While still not being a Creator/sapient/or even supernatural within the framework of this reality. Just VERY unique.)#The Ur-Tree has always been above water and grows very very slowly over the course of millenia by kind of 'pulling up' plant life from#the ground (so you see ancient long extinct plants in its higher branches and contemporary plants close to/on the ground)#The mycelium helps shield and feed extinct plant life that could not otherwise survive in the contemporary environment#And the forest is big enough to produce its own weather (it is a rainforest and has been ever since the capacity for rainforests Existed)#It's not really a tree at all in any normal sense but an amalgam of thousands of types of plants-#Some growing on top of others and some interwoven beyond any distinction. It does form a superficially treelike structure#(mostly in order to physically support its own mass) with a very wide 'trunk' and massive 'roots' (which end in actual roots).#It feeds on its own perpetually shedding and decaying 'body' and any animal life that dies in the forest is VERY rapidly#decayed and absorbed by the mycelial network (to the point that many large scavengers cannot survive in this forest)#(If you kill a cow and leave it on the ground for just 1/2 hour you'll see little strands of mycelium already growing up around it)#The fungus fruits and spores on a very infrequent basis (scale of ten-thousands of years) which causes the forest to very slowly spread#Fortunately this isn't really an existential threat because the spread is VERY slow (even on a geological scale) and the fungus#itself is rather mundane in nature and cannot usually compete against established fungal networks in other places.#Though there are little Ur-Tree mycelium groves and woodlands in other parts of the world that may (over untold millennia)#generate their own Ur-Trees (there's already a few but they are all MUCH smaller and not readily recognized as the same thing)#WRT THE TRIP:#Most of what I'm describing is a DMT trip but consumption of high doses of Ur-Tree mycelium has both mundane psychoactive effects#and IS kind of the person experiencing the fungus' entire lifetime and seeing flashes of the world's actual evolutionary history.#The amount of material knowledge that can be accurately gleaned from this this is VERY limited though.

ORV Characters Ranked by Least to Most Likely to Commit White Collar Crime
You guys said you wanted my ORV takes, and I try not to say things unsolicited, so I'll drop the good meta-analysis and literary criticism that I'm known for. For comedy purposes please pretend that ORV is American.
Omniscent Reader's Viewpoint characters broken down by likelihood to commit white collar crime, least to most:
Lee Hyeonseong: he's convinced that he's never committed a crime in his life. Intentionally, of course not. Unintentionally, he takes shopping for groceries extremely seriously, and is sometimes so wrapped up in the fruit inspection experience that he'll leave without paying. Due to his innocent face, bulk, and sheer confidence, he's never caught. In an economically thrifty maneuver, KDJ always sends him on snack runs for parties and texts him math problems while he's there. He insists it's like couponing. It's not couponing.
Jeong Huiwon: similarly, of course she would never choose to commit a crime. Also similarly, when KDJ says, 'Hey, wanna commit a crime?' she always participates. Since the crime is normally targeted at rich people, KDJ can usually morally justify it to her. She calls this harm reduction. It's not harm reduction.
Lee Jihye: would love to commit a crime in theory, almost never in practice. She has an idealized image in her mind of the ideal high school experience and it involves grand theft auto. However, the worst she ever gets is breaking & entering and trespassing, mostly because she didn't stop to wonder if the building was abandoned or not. She can't even shoplift from Claire's.
Shin Yuseung: the kind of kid who sets the dissection frogs in the school laboratory free. Looks up illegal exotic animal trading on the deepweb and sighs in longing. But exotic pet trading isn't very Animal Rights of her, so she just leaks information to the CIA and busts the rings. Lee Gilyeong convinces her to track down shady sellers on Craigslist and bust their kneecaps. Neither of them view this as significantly different from the dissection frog liberation. KDJ gets her a rescued exotic cat for her birthday as a reward.
Lee Gilyeong: self-explanatory.
Han Suyeong: she's been pirating media since she was eleven and has never stopped. World-class expert in pirating everything. She's the unsung hero who rips the CDs and games and puts them online. Runs the pirating websites. Has never paid for a webnovel or manwha or manga in her life. Despite this, she insists that pirating books is immoral and that people should support small authors. The FBI knows she exists and has been trying to catch her for years. She brags about this constantly.
Yoo Sangah: has committed tax fraud before, will commit tax fraud tomorrow, is currently committing tax fraud. Embezzles her company's embezzlement. Insists that she's only committing victimless crimes, mainly because she doesn't view business executives as people. Her ability to evade the IRS is mythological and it's how KDJ got a crush on her.
Yoo Junghyeok: does not understand adult life well enough to knowingly commit any sort of white collar crime. He is this high on the list because he enables and helps KDJ in literally everything he does, especially using his clout as an influencer. This is because KDJ has convinced him that these things aren't crimes, and he doesn't understand adult life well enough to figure it out.
Kim Dokja: has done every white collar crime under the sun. I can't emphasize enough how much crime he does. He's currently blackmailing SYS's college tuition out of a US Senator. HSY makes the shell companies and launders so much money with him. Alternates between running a pyramid scheme and a ponzi scheme depending on the month. Started a cult that one time but we don't like to talk about that. Runs the betting ring for YJH's esports games. Fixes the games. YJH does not know he does this, but KDJ splits the profits and Yoo Mia also needs a college tuition so he decides not to think about it too hard. Big into crypto and runs every crypto scam you can possibly think of, which is normally where the the ponzi schemes come in. Steals YJH's identity often. Somehow everything he does is technically legal. The only crime he does not commit is pirating. Exclusively targets the wealthy and ultra-wealthy and has never stolen money from a poor person. Sugar daddies all of his friends and pays all college tuitions. Anonymously yet obviously sponsors huge amounts of money to YJH's Twitch streams, mostly in apology for the ID theft. Would really rather be living a quiet life in a big house with all of his friends, but that big house ain't gonna pay for itself.
#omniscient reader's viewpoint#orv#kim dokja#yjh#kdj#orv is about capitalism and systems of power and how they should be broken#and destroying the narratives of the powerful designed to keep us complacent and infighting and bootlicking#fucking shame how nobody's written a leverage au#'why do people tell stories' hope and love and the human condition :)#but also in order to control people determine their futures determine their fates#and even if the story isn't true you can make it true#like the fbi planting coke in black neighborhoods.#also hugely the capitalist exploitation of the entertainment industry#the chinese sweatshop worker makes the idol merchendise for the tired overworked korean#who works for little pay and no credit and overtime in the outsourced korean animation studios#for american cartoons that depressed americans watch because it offers a sliver of joy in our lives#bc the americans are being exploited by fascists and oligarchs#the korean idol is exploited by their superiors and dehumanized by their fans#i should probably make alla that a. different post jklasdf#anyway that's why they do so much crime fuck the system

I think it would be so funny if during the anime adaptation of FRIEND fight, Uryu will be the one watching over Haschwalth instead in return (not out of obligation like Haschwalth of course)
#bleach#bleach anime#bleach tybw#uryu ishida#uryuu ishida#jugram haschwalth#thousand year blood war arc#idk if they will keep the stupid planting bombs plan for uryu or not#but if they change it maybe this scenario unironically would be good to fill in at where uryu is & what is he doing after defeating renji#because let's admit it. thinking that dropping immortal omniscient omnipotent god from the sky is enough to kill him is just plain stupid#and that's very unlike uryu's thinking. suicide attack seems more believable than that shit#my theory is uryu already knew about the still silver arrow from souken's journal and probably waiting for the right time to get and use it#he probably gambled to gain the trust of Yhwach so he can be close enough to him & will shoot the arrow when no one watching#which he didn't think through if he could even pick it from his dad in the living world or if he could shoot it without distraction#the alternative theory would be instead of Yhwach himself Uryu will be the one fighting Giselle & Liltotto since other Guards are busy#they could save Yhwach upgraded power for the eventual (second) rematch with Ichigo and give Uryu more screentime to “convince” his loyalty#also would be good to give Uryu interaction with the rebel Sternritters since they never had an actual one after his announcement as heir#to make it fulfilling maybe Liltotto & Giselle could confront Yhwach first. then when they're going to attack Uryu came & they confront him

I like this scene because when I was writing it I was thinking about how fun everything would be once Alberu joins the party ahaha
This poor guy will not only have to deal with Regressor Cale, but Regressor Choi Han AND Kim Roksoo. Those three will never let the opportunity to tease Alberu slip by. Also I find this one scene really funny because Alberu is absolutely thinking to himself ‘what the hell was that’ when he made eye contact with Cale, the young master of the Henituse family who is famous for his brutal honesty and words, is smiling at him in a way that reminded Alberu too much of himself.
Realistically, there should be no way the young master knows anything about him, not when they had only exchanged a few greetings in passing. Sure, the Henituse county was rich, but they had no reason to dig for information on him unless he provoked them. So why did it feel like Cale Henituse knew something very important about him?
#the rings of life is a very scary power lol#Poor Alberu#he doesn’t know that Cale already has a part of his secret figured out#anyway I think the rings of life works in a way where the rings of different species have differences#like obviously the rings of a plant and a human wouldn’t be the same#due to the difference between how the two experience time#and as 1/4 dark elf Alberu would also experience time differently from those who are human#since he’s still a dark elf#I thought of it as the rings being closer together#like y’all know how trees got layers cause of the bark they have over the years#something like that but they’re closer together because there’s more years to live#and it’s ’less time’ to them overall#rings of a Regressor would have them overlapping and flickering with the rings of the past and the rings of the present#maybe I should make a seperate post on how I think the power works/ looks even if it isn’t canon stuff#just rambling#tcf#lcf fanfic#og cale henituse#kim roksoo#Choi Han#the birth of a hero#lcf fanart#from [in the borderline] on ao3#lcf

living in texas is insane not only because of the racism, queerphobia, & misogyny that is far too prevalent (ESPECIALLY in the government, in part due to the extreme voter suppression) but also because one time they let 250 people freeze to death all because state republicans didn't want federal regulation of the power grid. and then they just, moved on like nothing had really happened...
#sorry I was just thinking about this again like. that was insane!!!#like climate change has weakend the polar jet stream and all that leading to more extreme winter storms in texas#and yet they were warned this could happen and they did nothing!!!#i live in an area that wasn't on the texas grid but connected to the midwest grid so we made it through okay#but now we have switched to the texas grid since then because our city didn't want to fix up the old power plants or build a new one#so now every time it's really hot or cold over a large area I get an email from a state agency sayingnhey the grid might fail btw watch out!

where would they like to be buried for ailill?
this is a rly interesting question for him! he would *like* to receive dalish rites but believes himself too blighted to safely bury. at the same time he very much does not want to follow the warden tradition of going to the deep roads to die fighting darkspawn bc 1) he hates the deep roads so so much and 2) he's very afraid that he wouldn't be killed before deteriorating to the point of essentially becoming darkspawn himself
i think if he died without/before any cure for the calling he'd want his body to be burned, since there aren't rly any readily available better options; it's also what he had to do with tamlen's body which would feel right to him in a sort of deranged way
#ailill mahariel#my ocs#asks#talkin#dragon age#i feel like i read somewhere that cremation was the andrastian standard which would make sense considering the immolation thing#plus just in a practical sense bc oh my god there are so many reanimated skeletons in thedas we don’t need more#actually that makes me wonder if there’s a magic aspect to the traditional dalish funeral esp for the clans living in the brecilian#or places like it where the veil is practically nonexistent and spirits will gladly possess plants let alone bodies#keepers do seem to have access to extremely powerful sort of ‘off book’ magic ie w aravels and for that matter keeping mahariel alive#that would be cool to see explored more. theoretically.#tho i hesitate to ask for more dalish lore bc of the monkey’s paw and its seemingly endless number of fingers curling inward

wait has someone else talked ab whether stampede vash's dark undercut is just an aesthetic decision or if there's more to it because he did not have dark parts before Eriks Era in the manga but his dark undercut advanced way earlier even before July.
the dark undercut only happened when he was at least a teenager.
[ID: Two screencaps from Trigun Stampede with kid Nai and Vash. They have mirroring bowlcuts, and the undercut matches the color of their upper hair. Vash is blonde and Nai's hair has a lighter color than his. In the first image they are wearing birthday hats and laughing. In the second image they sit on the grass with Rem, joking to each other. End ID]
Look! All blonde! What about teenage Vash and Knives?
[ID: Screencaps from Trigun Stampede. First image is of a teenage Knives. His blonde almost white hair is slicked back, revealing his undercut which has the same color as his upper hair. Second image is of a teenage Vash pressing his hands and face together with a red plant, separated by the glass containing the plant. The backside of his undercut has dark brown color, unlike his light blonde upper hair. End ID]
so something happened between the great fall and Home. could it be that the dark hair is the side effect of healing plants? since it *is* a power of vash that was deemed special aside from being a gate to another dimension?
and you know who is really great at preserving his power in the manga that it only turned black bit by bit in the later volumes?
[ID: Screencap of Knives from Trigun Stampede in the water containing Vash and the plants. His hair is exactly the same from when he was a teenager. End ID]
this fucking guy.
#krispeaks#it only just registered to me as i woke up from my 1-hour nap to do my exam but got distracted with my vash wallpaper#ok I'll go back to being a student bye#trigun#tristamp#kinda interesting because his healing power was only a big deal during the reveal that he's a plant#hm.#which just. kinda fuels my disliking towards Home bcs did they not question anything about his uair#in their defense they probably didnt know if that meant anything. unlike conrad who has been forced to live for some hundred years#BUT. ITS still a side effect. healing plants is something too good to be true for humans to do by themselves#and what. do they just think the side effect wld be THIS mundane
