The Pleiades is a nearby cluster of hot blue stars which are illuminating the gas and dust between them.
It is readily visible to our eyes, even in large cities. Look to the east this evening. With an apparent size about half that of a full moon, it is quite impressive.
Countless ancient cultures documented their impressions of it. Europeans call it the “Seven Sisters”, referring to Greek mythology. The Japanese named it “Subaru”.
This is an aggregate of 46 images where each photo was a 5 minute exposure. You need long exposures to reveal the faint reflecting dust clouds.
I photographed the Pleiades Cluster from my terrace in Strasbourg France over three nights in October 2022.

An iconic astrophotography subject: the Andromeda Galaxy. At 2.5 million light years, it is the nearest galaxy to us. This is an ensemble of 70 photos: 40 were captured with an L-Enhance filter at Astrofarm France (July 2022) and 30 were captured with an L-Pro filter in Strasbourg (August 2022). The L-Enhance filter emphases, in red, the hydrogen-rich star-forming areas, and the L-Pro filter generally enhances galaxy details, and suppresses the ambient artificial light in cities. This combination did highlight, in red, several spiral arms that are richer in hydrogen than others. #andromeda #andromedagalaxy #messier31 #m31 #messierobjects #messierobject #astrophotography #astrophotographie #astrophotographiefrance #astronomy #astronomie #poussieredetoile #poussieresdetoiles #poussièredétoiles (at Strasbourg, France) https://www.instagram.com/p/Ch9ZdwMM22X/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

The Pleiades is a nearby cluster of hot blue stars which are illuminating the gas and dust between them. It is readily visible to our eyes, even in large cities. Look to the east on evenings in autumn. With an apparent size about half that of a full moon, it is quite impressive. Countless ancient cultures documented their impressions of it. Europeans call it the “Seven Sisters”, referring to Greek mythology. The Japanese named it “Subaru”, and you will indeed see it in the logo of the Japanese car company of that name. The challenge for amateur astrophotographers is to capture as much of the delicate dust and gas clouds as possible. I photographed the Pleiades Cluster from my terrace in Strasbourg France, August 2022. 60 images x 3 minutes each (3 hours of exposure). #pleiadescluster #pleiades #messier45 #m45 #messierobjects #astronomy #astrophotography #astrophotographie #astrophotographiefrance #poussièredétoiles (at Strasbourg, France) https://www.instagram.com/p/ChukNfQMz_G/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

IC-1805 has the colloquial name: The Heart Nebula. It is 7,500 light years distance. This is a rework of images from 2021 at Astrofarm France: new processes and new skills. #ic1805 #heartnebula #astrophotography #astrophotographie #astrophotographiefrance #poussieresdetoiles #poussièredétoiles (at Astrofarm) https://www.instagram.com/p/ChKuqunsIZF/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

The Iris Nebula is a cloud of dust and gas that is reflecting light from the bright star at the centre. It is actually a small region that happens to be close-by in our stellar neighborhood. The challenge for astrophotographers is to capture the asymmetrical dark areas around it and in front of it, revealing the complexity of this region. #irisnebula #ngc7023 #astronomiefrance #astronomie #astrophotography #astrophotographiefrance #poussieredetoile #poussièredétoiles #poussieresdetoiles #stardust #astronomy (at Strasbourg, France) https://www.instagram.com/p/CeqP1PrMErM/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

The Flame Nebula, is a hot glowing cloud in the Belt of Orion constellation. The bright star in the foreground is flooding the region with ultraviolet light, and that energizes the Frame Nebula. The Flame Nebula is part of the vast Orion Molecular Cloud Complex which fills the southern sky on a midwinter evening, but is too faint for casual observation. At 900 light years distance, it is very close on a galactic scale. If it were a large city, we would be living in its suburbs. I photographed the Flame Nebula from my balcony in Strasbourg France, February 2022. #flamenebula #ngc2024 #sh2-277 #orionmolecularcloudcomplex #astronomy #astronomie #astrophotography #astrophotographie #astrophotographiefrance #poussieredetoile #poussièredétoiles (at Strasbourg, France) https://www.instagram.com/p/CZ9trlIsNXR/?utm_medium=tumblr
