Ok so I don’t celebrate Halloween for multiple reasons that I’m not going to talk about right now, but every now and then I wish I did. Like, not bc of the candy or the scariness or anything like that, BUT THE COSTUMES. I have SO MANY costume ideas and I wish desperately I could wear them so instead I’m going to list for you all below. Btw I want to be so many people from each one but the ones I listed specifically are my favorite ones.

"Y/N, you simply won't believe the news!" Your friend, Mrs, Bucket, chirped excitedly as the two of you met up to run errands together. The two of you had worked together previously, and she became a good friend to you despite the infrequency of your contact.

"What is it, Hellen?"

"Charlie's found it - the last golden ticket! Isn't it exciting?" She was more animated than you'd seen her in a long time, and she continued quickly. "I was thinking - and forgive me if this is too bold, but, I was thinking... perhaps you could take him for the tour?" And then you saw it - the mischievous glint in her eye.

Hellen knew a secret that you'd told few others - you'd known Willy Wonka when the two of you were children, and had been an item for much of your youth.

"I understand if you can't, or don't want to. I just thought... Oh, I don't know. Maybe it's silly." You told her you would think about it, and she didn't mention it again as you went onto your errands.

After that, it seemed as if you somehow saw more of his name everywhere you went; advertisement and news articles. Of course it was the fervor around the contest, but nonetheless you couldn't escape the ghost of your past. It was a pleasant ghost, at least.

There was a form to send in before the tour, giving the names of the chaperones. You'd kept it visible, and quickly penned your name down before the deadline.

It all happened so fast - Hellen asked, you agreed, and in the blink of an eye you were standing at the gates with Charlie by your side. And then the moments dragged until Wonka himself finally emerged. He looked very different, of course, but yet somehow still the same. The other guardians were quick to rush up to introduce themselves and their children, but he hurried through them until he got to you.

"And Y/N. I was looking forward to seeing you most of all. You do remember me, don't you?"

The candy maker lit up when you told him that you did remember him, grinning wide and looking much like the boy you'd known long ago.

"I named one of my chocolates after you, you know. And I'll tell you a secret - it's my most favorite creation." He paused only a moment before continuing, "come, I've got such marvelous things to show you."

He held out his arm for you to take, paying no mind to the other chaperones as he lead the group inside.

I decided to include my works solo, not counting works I created with @dobranocka because a lot of these opening lines are not mine, even though I love them a lot. So, from the newest to the oldest:

1. The party is in the full swing, the mansion filled with laughter and not-so-secret business deals conducted on the expensive sofas and in the darkened hallways. (WIP, Weilan Derrivatives, LNS/LF mob au)

18. “We need Grindelwald,” Albus Dumbledore, the Marshall of the last base ready to fight the Kaiju had never anticipated having to say this out loud. (To Fight Monsters, We Created Monsters, Fantastic Beasts franchise, Grindeldore, Pacific Rim au)

19. Being a hero is easy. You beat up the bad guys, save innocent citizens, earn the love of a beautiful lady, preferably a journalist, and become a beacon of hope to everyone. (Face to Face, My Lovely Foe, Haikyuu!!, Bokuaka, superhero au, once again a longer quote because wow, are they brief)

20. Hinata had heard stories about strange creatures living in the forest. (Sword in the Stone, Haikyuu!!, Bokuaka + Kagehina, Arthuriana au)

Soooo... I apparently have the unfortunate tendency to start out with short setences that tell the reader absolutely nothing at all. This, or dialogues. And I managed to repeat the exact same sentence in two separate fics, wow.

I think my favourite opening line so far is from the steampunk au, mostly because I actually like the whole beginning of this fic and I enjoy the fragment that follows the opening line, aside from that, the WIP one is the most enjoyable for me, I think.

Interesting experience, really, I like this tag game, it changed my perspective a bit, and I remember doing this a few years ago and the openings looked completely different and I had different observations, so yay progress?

The most heartfelt break-up/goodbye-scenes on screen part 2

Again, I wanna say that some of these ships are on my OTP-lists, some of them are far from it. There also might be some family-members or friends involved. These are not in any specific order in my mind, despite the numbers.

1) Donna and Sophie 

(This. Right here. When Sophie sees Donna, her beloved and departed mother again in her child’s christening and they get to say their final goodbye...connected into ABBA’s “My love, My life...” If someone put this scene into “Try Not To Cry”-challenge, I would never make it!)

2) Troy and Gabriella

(Okay… even if this franchise gave me an unrealistic expectations of the high school and relationships, it and Troyella are a huge part of my childhood and youth. I have so many memories of singing “Gotta Go My Own Way” from the top of my lungs before I had even involved with any romantic relationship. So much nostalgia... I just couldn’t leave this out, okay?)

3) Paul and John

(”Green Mile” is one of the most emotional movies I have ever watched. It has made me smile, cry, laugh, scream, stamping my foot… and much more. And John’s execution and his speech to Paul on his cell belong definitely in the most special and greatest movie scenes of all time.)

4) Jace and Clary

(Even if they’re not my favorite couple - on this show or otherwise - they had a complicated and loving journey together. Her speech is so touching and knowing what will happen to her makes their goodbye-scene even more sad. Luckily, the finale implied that they will get their second chance.)

5) Mulan and Aurora

(Not a day goes by that I don’t think of this pairing. Don’t get me wrong, I love Phillip and Aurora as well, but these two could’ve been something special. A really sad example of someone who loves someone from sidelines and gathers her strength to express it, but is too late.)

6) Lexie and Mark

(I know that the writers respected Chyler’s wishes when it came to her character’s departure, but still..It's so, so unfair. Their goodbyes always makes me weepy. How Mark deep inside knows that the love of his life is going to die, but doesn’t wanna accept it.  At least they are together now, in a better place.)

7) Amanda and Emily

(Their relationship was complicated and rocky, yes, but I really think they cared for each other like sisters. No matter how essential for the plot it was, I am really pissed that she was one of the casualities on Emily’s road to revenge.)

8) Jack and Elizabeth

(Oh boy… my “One that got away”-ship”. I have always loved this scene, because even now they tease each other,  saying their words back at each other and expressing their respect to each other. And it was obvious that with that “Thank you” Liz meant much more than just saving Will. That he showed her new parts of herself, a new, more wider way of living. Which is why I am still sad what they did to her character in POTC 5. I know that she had a son to take care of, but still. And this is even sadder because Jack clearly wanted their Pirate King to stay and travel the seas with them but knew that she wanted and belonged to somebody else. Aagh, so many feels.)

Even though I didn’t find a proper gif, the goodbye between James Norrington and Elizabeth Swann is bittersweet as well. Despite everything they went through, they still cared for each other, wanted to protect each other and taught each other so much. It’s sad how many of their scenes were cut out. “Our paths have entwined, but never joined.” </3

 + The goodbyes from the “Last Song”-movie. All of the latest scenes between Jonah, Ronnie and Steve just break my heart so badly. Gosh, I wish I would still own that movie.  

+ The goodbyes between Alice and Tarrant (the Mad Hatter) in both “Alice in Wonderland” and “Alice Through the Looking Glass” get me to prepare with tissues every time.

1. Who is your idol? No one. I never had a person I wanted to be like. I may want myself to be different at times, but I never wanted to be like or model my actions according to someone else. So no, no idols. 2. If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go? Miami and Moscow.  3. What decorates the walls of your room? Nothing. And it’s not only we just rented the place. I never took kindly to posters or worse, real people photos. They make me feel like I’m stalked. The last thing I had on my wall was a very beautiful ship painting and a clock. 4. Favorite color combination? Black and Red or Green and Gray, forever. 5. What’s on the top of your bucket list? Try to smoke less.  6. Height? 165 cm. Aight, since you're on such a movie binge lately, and since I usually love your recommendations, what are your top 10 movies?

Upon being asked this nearly 48 hours ago, my brain, despite having watched probably 1000 movies of all different genres and from multiple countries was like "the only movies you can remember is shrek 1 2 and 3" but after digging through my memory I THINK I have managed to find some of my top favorites movies. My favorites are defined solely on how much they managed to impact me and inspire me so here we go in no particular order!

1. “The Best Offer” (2013) by Giuseppe Tornatore. This is the most recent film I’ve seen and is by far one of my all-time favorites. It is at least 96% of everything I’ve ever wanted in a movie and I’m still reeling from the borderline perfection of the whole thing. Unsurprisingly I got interested in it bc of the older man/ younger woman thing, but nothing about their relationship development was cliche or shallow, so much so that it pleasantly surprised me, and then threw me through 25000 emotional roller coasters that were also on fire. It’s a drama, romance, comedy, mystery, thriller, and tragedy without being an absolute mess and idk if I will ever get over it I love it so much.

2. “Melancholia” (2011) by Lars Von Trier. A film that portrays severe depression through an apocalyptic metaphor and actually manages to skillfully get away with it. I love this movie as much as I hate it for being so raw and painful yet beautiful at the same time. Everyone in this is great but Kirsten Dunst truly is a formidable actress. This is the only LVT film I’ve fully enjoyed also bc all of his others have too much of a pretentious assholeishness to them and he just tries too damn hard to be edgy and it wastes the entire storyline. 

3. “The Phantom Of the Opera” (2004) by Joel Schumacher. A classic in every respect of the word. It’s got the twisted love tale that I’m an eternal sucker for PLUS they burst out into song abt such matters all the time??? LOVES IT. Everyone with even the slightest taste for the dramatic should watch it at least once.

4. “The Red Violin” (1998) By  François Girard. I Don’t even know how to describe this film. I just remember it from my childhood bc my dad was fascinated by it and I was too. It has an entirely foreign, mostly Italian cast which makes it somehow feel like even more of an authentic story. It really helped shaped me to realize just how important music and musical instruments are to humanity and how they are another way to express our innermost thoughts and feelings.

5. Moulin Rouge! (2001) by Baz Lurhmann. I will NEVER forget the first time I saw this. I was around 7 or 8 and my parents had rented it from blockbuster, and all 3 of us watched it in awe. Baz Lurhmann is nothing but a genius the way he integrated multiple modern songs into this musical and they FIT. The moulin rouge version of “Roxanne” knocks the original by The Police out of the park, out of the world, and out into another dimension. And then the original songs like “come what may” are all 10/10. It’s theatrical, it’s romantic, it’s funny, it’s tragic. Those are the 4 things that almost always cause me to love a movie. Also Ewan McGregor is absurdly hot in it and HIS SINGING  VOICE??? HHHHHOOOOOOO BBBBOOOOOYYYYYYYYY

6. “Phantom Thread” (2017) by Paul Thomas Anderson. I’m not gonna lie, I hopped onto this movie solely bc of the older man/younger woman romance theme that I am always a slut for, but much like The Best Offer it was SO MUCH more like??? This isn’t even about their age it’s about who THEY ARE and their differences yet their love for each other  and how can they balance their lives, who THEY ARE without hating one another as much as they love one another??? BOY I LOVE THAT TORTURED LOVE. This movie was almost NOTHING of what I expected from it and I loved every surprise it gave me. 

7. “Perfume: The Story of a Murderer” (2006)  by Tom Tykwer. Idek WHAT to say about this film other than it’s so good!!! It’s so fucked up!!! I’M so fucked up!!! I love it so much!!! You know how me be!!! Love that nasty artsy badness!!! Go watch it and then message me asking me what the fuck is wrong with me!!!

8. “V for Vendetta” (2005) by James McTeigue. I know this movie has been overhyped at times, but it truly is incredible. Both the left and right seem to claim this movie as their own, but my libertarian ass just loves it for its anti-tyranny theme and ofc for the development of Evey and V’s relationship. It’s definitely worth at least one watch. 

9. Pirates of the Caribbean (2003-2007 so only the original trilogy bc those are the only ones that really exist and matter ok) by Gore Verbinski. I was around 9-10 when I saw the first potc, and it changed me and inspired me for life. Immediately I found Elizabeth Swann so relatable not just bc we have the same first name, but because she had the same intense desire for freedom and adventure as I had/ still do tbh. She liked the “bad guys” and wanted to be one of them and ultimately became “King” of them without sacrificing her own femininity and OHHH I LOVE THAT. The original potc trilogy has the perfect blend of adventure, fantasy, horror, and romance for me (although I will always wish Elizabeth had ended up with Jack in the end I will DIE for this ship).Mind you, The Mummy (1999) Came EXTREMELY close to taking potc’s place, but the mummy never managed to make a good or even rewatchable trilogy like potc did so potc wins this.

10. This is Spinal Tap (1984) by Rob Reiner. The only complete comedy on this list, I cannot even begin to describe how genius this film is. I have watched it so many times since childhood and I STILL find new jokes in it that I had never noticed before. Anyone who has had even the slightest bit of an interest in music should find this hilarious. The Stonehenge mishap scene alone makes this one of the greatest comedies of all time.

These are some of the few that I’ve been able to come back to mind from memory rn but I’m sure I’ll think of other faves later. but all of these are some definite top  faves of mine that impho (in my personal humble/horny opinion) everyone should watch at least once

30 Day Monster Challenge 2 - Day #5: Favorite Fish-Man

1.)    Abe Sapien (BPRD)

Good old Abraham Sapien. Been with us since the fist arc of Hellboy. Abe’s come a long way since then; met his mom, found his wife, subsequently lost her, reunited with his old steampunk buddies, got elected as antichrist after Hellboy and Liz, went into a coma, mutated a couple of feet taller, and so and so on. Into Abe is thrown a lot of bigger themes that inform us of the Mignolaverse’s overall composure. On the aesthetic side, Abe always brings the ocean, fish, and water with him. Lovecraft’s fear of the ocean, Verne’s fascination, and Melville’s awe of it are all wrapped up in Abe Sapien. In his past life, he even came from a whaling family, and he was part of a secret society of ocean-worshiping spiritualists. That’s the other aesthetic cue in Abe; Victoriana. Even when in body armor and running across the flooded remains of the Gulf Coast, Abe never loses a certain gentility. But as a character theme, more than anything, I think Abe represents tragedy. He’s lost more than anyone; Even Liz can still say she has her humanity. Abe can’t even remember his past life, and now he’s becoming a little more monstrous every day.

But through all that, Abe is still maybe the most relatable member of the BPRD for me. (Well, the superpowered ones anyway.) Abe isn’t really sure of who he is or his place in the world, and he’s still looking for those connections that root a person. At the same time, Abe sticks to the middle of the road, acting as the voice of reason even in unreasonable circumstances. He’s capable of emotional outbursts and faults, but for the most part, Abe succeeds at being a good person. Abe might be the strangest core member of the BPRD, but that he’s never inhuman. We don’t need to be super heroes; just basically good people are enough to keep the world running.

2.)    Davy Jones (Pirates of the Caribbean)

Man, I just love how cool this guy is. Sea monster octopus pirate; that’s a character description that makes my inner ten year old want to jump and down. Davy Jones’ whole character design is just so nifty; tentacle beard, organic peg-leg, crab-claw hook hand, a sweet pipe and a giant hat. Hat’s also important for the other reason I love Jones; plays into so many mythical archetypes. Costumers for PotC explicitly stated they picked Jones’ hat because it looked like horns, and they really wanted Jones to fit his role as essentially the pirate devil. As the PotC spans out, Jones is revealed to have been even more legendary characters; he’s the Old Man of the Sea that Odysseus had to wrestle to go to Hades, and Charon guiding souls over to the underworld. I’ll be honest, Davy Jones’ pathos with the lost love never really struck a chord with me. Bill Nighy’s performance of it was great, though, so props are definitely in order for that. And last, but certainly not least, I can’t not love a man who keeps a kraken as a pet.

3.)    Deep Ones (H.P. Lovecraft)

The classic. The first. Your one and only. It’s beginning to look a lot like fish-men. The blue-collar workers of the Cthulhu Mythos. H.P. Lovecraft’s fear of the ocean and corrupted bloodlines all wrapped into one beautiful, horrible fish creature. Nothing quite beats Lovecraft’s originals; he goes out of his way to describe them as alien, foul, and horrible. They’re another one of those monsters you can practically smell through the pages. I think it’s safe to say that half the other fish-men on this list wouldn’t exist without the Deep Ones. People are still scared of the ocean and the alien things living in it, and the Deep Ones give that fear a face. All the while they call to some primal part of us, an archaic memory that remembers when our species used to be fish, and they tell us to come home. Just as angels call us to come to God, the Deep Ones call us back to the sea. (Also; fat and hunchbacked Deep Ones only. I’m sorry; I wish I didn’t have to make that call. If it was up to me, all Deep Ones would be valid. But these are the times we live in, and sacrifices have to be made, preferably to Father Dagon.)

4.)    The Creature from the Black Lagoon (Universal Monsters)

Deep Ones lite. There’s actually a lot I like about the Creature on its own merits. It’s such a natural creature, as far as monsters go. It lives in harmony with its ecosystem, and its design really conveys that its simply a fish that has evolved into a humanoid shape. You can say the same thing about humans, though, and that ultimately is where we connect with the Creature. He’s also kind of charming in his own way; wide eyes, smiling face, no big pointy teeth. He’s practically a goldfish compared to the Deep Ones. And of course those underwater ballet sequences are still just absolutely beautiful. I think more than the Deep Ones, the Creature can probably be compared to King Kong; a primal, more innocent creature so strange that humanity wouldn’t leave it alone. Mankind’s desire to know more about the mysterious ultimately destroyed that mystery, conveying the paradox of how destructive discovery can be.

5.)    The Asset (Shape of Water)

We’ve come full circle now, I suppose. Centuries ago, sailors dreamed up half women/half fish creatures to ease their loneliness, and now we’ve made a half man/half fish to do the same for women. The Asset is pretty explicitly a makeover of the Creature from the Black Lagoon, even coming from a distant part of South America. There’s also clearly some Abe Sapien in there, which is only to be expected coming from Guillermo del Toro. This might sound weird, but I think the details I appreciate most are the spines and the fangs. I know this whole movie was supposed to be about how the monster was less dangerous than the Creature, but the spines and fangs just make it feel like a more believable creature.

6.)    The Creature (Monster Squad)

But before the asset, there was another Creature from the Black Lagoon reboot in The Monster Squad. This movie is just the gift that keeps on giving. I’d say that the Creature here is the strongest individual design out of the whole batch. He didn’t really do much in this movie, but he made one heck of an impression. Designed by none other than the late, great Stan Winston, this version of the Creature looks like its ready to kick ass and take names. I distinctly get the impression of a piranha from it, and you can just imagine a mob of these guys rising up out of the Amazon and pulling down a river boat.

7.)    Sahuagin (Dungeons and Dragons)

There are a lot of different fish people to choose from in D&D. Kuo Toa, Skum, Locathah, mermaids, Atlanteans, and the list grow longer every year. But my personal favorite are the Sahuagin; brutal, murderous raiders living in a strict tribal hierarchy, worshiping a giant shark, and prone to mutations. While most fish men draw from Lovecraft, I got the distinct impression that the Sahuagin were more pulpy, a bit more Edgar Rice Burroughs. Even their other name, the Sea Devils, sounds like something Conan or Tarzan would fight in a comic book. Their designs are just so cool; fin ears, bullet heads, shark teeth, long tails. Before ‘scary’, these were sea monsters made to look intimidating. They are the most organized antagonistic force under the waves, threatening everything from merfolk to sailors. Their goal? Nothing short of supreme domination of the sea.

8.)    Shark Giant (Bloodborne)

Another Deep One descendent, and this one hits like a truck. There’s a lot to be said for the shark giant on its own merits. It’s lack of eyes make you think that it senses by scent, and remind you of how a shark can sense a drop of blood in water a hundred miles away. There are, of course, the teeth, and how they seem to take up more space than there is for the mouth. The barnacles on its back are both a crest and a fin. Its paleness makes it seem to glow in the dark, like its bioluminescent. It really reinforces the feeling in the Fishing Hamlet that you’re underwater, like the boundaries between land, sea, and sky have been blurred. More than any other monster in the Fishing Hamlet, the shark giant is what reminds me of Lovecraft’s Dagon; a huge, deformed figure skulking over the mud of a submarine nightmare-scape.

9.)    The Children of the Thing That Drifted Ashore (Junji Ito)

The Thing That Drifted Ashore isn’t even really my favorite Junji Ito sea monster story; that would probably be Gyo. But the things that come crawling out of it are some of the first fish people I find genuinely disgusting, evoking that same feeling Lovecraft wanted from his Deep Ones. The Thing had apparently swallowed dozens of people that fell into the sea over the years, keeping them in its stomach. But rather than being digested, the people changed. It’s subtle, but you can still see it; webbed fingers, widened eyes, transparent skin. Inside the Thing, the people were witnesses to the abyss of the deep sea and driven mad by it. I’m reminded of an old version of the story of Jonah I was read as a child, where Jonah looked through the great fish’s eyes and saw the fires of Sheol and the Leviathan at the bottom of the ocean. The people swallowed are reborn, now children of the Thing, belonging only to the deep sea.

10.)    Otto Aquarius (The Venture Bros)

I just love this cute little guy. He’s only a minor character on the Venture Brothers, but he still made an impression on me. A half Atlantean that became a Mormon missionary, he’s just so earnest and eager. He’s an obvious play on superheroes like Namor and Aquaman, but they can’t hold a candle to this sweetheart. He’s clean, he’s polite, he’s socially conservative, he’s useless in combat; Otto’s just endearing. Dump the Asset and get with the real catch, folks.

This is going to be Valentine’s Day related for Supernatural and Walking Dead fics. It doesn’t have to be specifically on Valentine’s Day but the prompts are going to be dealing with love and relationships. And if you know me, you know I love angst (and smut), so there’s going to be angsty prompts along with fluff.

Library Triage Time!

You might recall that when I have a lot of library items checked out with insufficient time or motivation to get to them in a timely fashion, I make triage posts like this to help me decide how to prioritize. 

1. Bright Island - Mabel L. Robinson

A book I checked out for my mom to reread, after Goodreads' "What Was That Book?" FINALLY helped her figure out what title it was that she had liked so much as a young teenager. She thinks I'd like it too, and I agree with her assessment. I only have a week left, though. It's interlibrary loan, so I can't renew it.

(verdict: LOVE IT)

2-4. DVD: Pirates of the Caribbean 1-3 Because I just saw the fifth movie, which I am gonna flail about hard as soon as I have a chance, and I am down a FREAKING rabbit hole of reinvigorated Will/Elizabeth shipping like nobody’s business and it is time to watch this trilogy again.

(verdict: I watched #1, and then skipped to #4 and now I’ve kind of blown past onto new things)

5. DVD: POTC 4

Because I shunned its lack of Will and/or Elizabeth when it came out and haven't seen it yet, but movie 5 made me realize you can still enjoy a random fun pirate adventure with Captain Jack Sparrow. Or more precisely, it made me long for a random fun pirate adventure where Captain Jack Sparrow is actually entertaining and integral to the plot.

(verdict: oh man. that was just the palate cleanser I needed)

6. The Miseducation of Cameron Post - Emily Danforth

A book I have long wanted to read due to it pinging all my usual interest points in terms of cover, setting, thickness, and general tone/writing style, but known I would not appreciate enough because of my lack of interest in f/f. Recently, however, I decided to fling myself into the Nell/Kensi abyss, and in light of the utter dearth of fic that means I need templates to test them out on. It is this book's Time. Or at least, it was when I checked it out 4 weeks ago, and then I got busy and other books and fandoms jumped in front of it and now I'm not sure if I'm in the right mood anymore.

(verdict: it took me until the very last day of August to finish. But it was beautiful and it was so worth it.)

7. 10 Things I Can See From Here - Carrie Mac

W/R/T the lesbian angle: in June I picked out a quartet of books from our library system that I thought best fit my perception of a possible Nell/Kensi AU. The two I already read were not as good as hoped, and now my brief spike of interest is already fading beneath fresher shipping tides, at least for the time being while NCIS: LA is chilling on hiatus ice and I have hot new shows to fill my brainspace. However, I'm stubborn (I hoarded Girls in the Moon for 8 weeks and 6 days after checking it out, only finishing the day before the renewal limit was reached), and I would like to finish the set if I could.

(verdict: It took 8 weeks and 5 days to start but I read it. I wish I had not.)

8.. DVD: The Intern Definitely no rush to get to this, I just checked it out a couple days after having a "why don't I have any random feel-good movies on hand to watch when I have time to relax at night!!" moment, which I of course have not had since.

(verdict: ran out of time and threw it back unwatched)

9. DVD: The Internship Very like the above. Except lower brow humor, and with dudes.

(verdict: ugh)

10. Coming Unglued - Rebeca Seitz Second book in the Sisters, Ink quartet. I really liked the first one, and although I have a feeling that's going to stay my favorite, I am Determined to finish all four to make sure I don't miss out on anything. No rush though; I just got this.

(verdict: a worthwhile endeavor)

11. Tuck Everlasting - Natalie Babbitt Because while I was looking up the Pirates movies, I saw the Tuck Everlasting movie in the search results (our system pings weird matches), and suddenly it became imperative that I reacquaint myself with the magic of well-written loss. Bonus, it’s short.

(verdict: I LOVE IT WITH MY WHOLE ENTIRE HEART)

12. DVD: Tuck Everlasting And this is a treat for when I finish the book. I remember liking the movie more, not because the book is bad, but just because a) I saw the movie before I got around to reading the original version and it blew me away and b) the added romance features SUCH PRETTY PEOPLE.

(verdict: see above)

13. History of Wolves - Emily Fridlund I saw this at a bookstore in February and thought it looked kind of cool. The request list turned out to be ninety miles long, though, and by the time I finally got to the final 5, I was hella busy. The request list is still long, so I've suspended my request at #1 until I have plenty of time. It looks like it might be an overly literary read -- I mean, just compare it to everything else on this list -- but I am stubborn and still want to try.

(verdict: got bored quickly, skimmed a bit, read some reviews and then threw it back unread)

14. Little Women - Louisa May Alcott You know, if I can EVER IN MY LIFE GET THROUGH ALL THE BOOKS ON MY LIST BEFORE I FIND NEW ONES, this is gonna be such a treat. (I own this book; ergo, zero urgency)

(verdict: alas...the urge to reread is gone again for the time being)

(In further proof I’m out of control: I also have The Middle season 7 checked out for like the fourth time because MAYBE THIS TIME will be the time I can actually push myself past the traumatic triggery second episode and continue on with the series I love), and a random season of Seinfeld so that I can stop being tempted to watch it inefficiently on TV in the afternoons. Because of all the free time I obviously have.)
