Watercolour on paper by Emanuel Gottlieb Leutze (American (born in Germany), 1816–1868).

‘The Gregory and Potball gold mines in Colorado were the most productive of those opened up by the Pike’s Peak gold rush of 1859.  The sketch was made on a trip to the Rocky Mountains in preparation for a mural.’
