YES! YES!! THANK YOU FOR THE SCIENCE!
A lot of knowing your traditional materials goes into making digital art, too!
It's also great to learn the methods, shortcuts, workaround, and materials used all those years ago to familiarize yourself with them and also... it's pretty freakin' neat-o
Something I try to keep in mind when making art that looks vintage is keeping a limited color pallette. Digital art gives you a very wide, Crisp scope of colors, whereas traditional art-- especially older traditional art-- had a very limited and sometimes dulled use of color.
This is a modern riso ink swatch, but still you find a similar and limited selection of colors to mix with. (Mixing digitally as to emulate the layering of ink riso would be coloring on Multiply, and layering on top of eachother 👉)
Tumblr media
If you find some old prints, take a closer look and see if you can tell what colors they used and which ones they layered... a lot of the time you'll find yellow as a base!
Tumblr media
Misprints can really reveal what colors were used and where, I love misprints...
Something else I keep in the back of my mind is: how the human eye perceives color on paper vs. a screen. Ink and paint soaks into paper, it bleeds, stains, fades over time, smears, ect... the history of a piece can show in physical wear. What kind of history do you want to emulate? Misprinted? Stained? Kept as clean as possible, but unable to escape the bluing damages of the sun? It's one of my favorite things about making vintage art. Making it imperfect!
Tumblr media
You can see the bleed, the wobble of the lines on the rug, the fading, the dirt... beautiful!!
Thinking in terms of traditional-method art while drawing digital can help open avenues to achieving that genuine, vintage look!

@flying-potato2 You said in tags you wanted to see the ankylosaurs! These are my beautiful sons. The larger one is Bumpy, who is technically merch from some Jurassic World spin-off? But I got him because of his big adoring eyes and the fact that if you squeeze one of his paws he makes baby dino noises. The smaller one is Archie, who is from AfternoonFika! They get put to bed every night and taken out every day because I am a very normal individual. I love them very much

Hummus, Mayo and Turkey Dumplings
When I saw this week's recipe for my dog's food, my head practically exploded with ideas. Maybe it's the Mediterranean in me, but when I read "chickpeas" I hear "hummus"every time. And, I guess it's the American in me that wants to pair the poultry with a starch in the form of a dumpling-like biscuit.
I knew immediately what I wanted to do with the chickpeas, turkey and veggies, but what to do with the eggs? Something breakfasty for sure, but what? I didn't want to add too many more ingredients, but I also wanted something sweet in the morning to balance out the savory flavors that would be filling the rest of our day. I wondered what we could do with a waffle iron or biscuit mold if I combined the egg with sweet potato.
I think it's fair to say that this has been a little bit of an experiment, but I am looking forward to sharing how it turned out with you on of.tv/c/DoItWithDaisy soon!
