How much bolder I need to be in the engaging! I tend to put my fearlessness into the work. Really thinking about tapping into that as I put the work out into the world and how to do that with authenticity. I appreciate so much the artists that do this seamlessly! #AleksandraWaliszewska was born in 1976 in Warsaw. Upon graduating the city’s Academy of Fine Arts, she quickly became one of the most recognized contemporary painters of the Polish new art scene. Her list of accomplishments contains more than 20 solo exhibitions, an Arco Madrid Grand Prix, the EXIT magazine award, the Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage scholarships, cooperation with international artists and art groups, and a short movie inspired by her art. Hello All! I have four works in THE OTHERWORLD Exhibition, a group exhibition of visionary artists exploring alternate realities. THE OTHERWORLD opened to the public last Friday and will be up till the first week of February. Opening reception (yes, in-person!) is December 2nd in Thousand Oaks, CA. Sonia Jia’s work is predicated on intimacy and vulnerability, drawing from personal experiences of childhood and sexual trauma.

Inherently otherworldly and undefinable, her paintings are often born from irrational moments—lost seconds spent dreaming, staring blankly, or even contemplating death. Born in Ukraine and raised in Hangzhou, China, Jia is currently based in London and has just graduated with an MA in painting from the Royal College of Art, though she works across painting and filmmaking.
