@ostrichmonkey RIGHT?! A city that's just dripping in metaphors of colonialism and conquest and how it rots the city to its core is such a good place to set a group of PCs. And a FitD game has the perfect mechanics to show how a chain of events can slide a precariously balanced ecosystem further and further into disaster. I think the biggest question to answer is do we encourage the PC's to move for change in a way that tears down the powers that be without hurting the vulnerable, or will they have to make hard choices that hurt others along the way? As for Wanderhome, I have a little postal bat named Nugget who uses the Moth-Tender playbook. I also designed a little witchy otter who accompanies them on their travels, because I had a feeling they would need someone to turn to when they feel lost or confused. I generate a location and then ask myself what makes the two of them stop on the road. So far they have delivered a package to an ancient spirit, talked to a lonely ghost and a warrior who desperately wants revenge, stayed with an apprentice who just wants to make a good wedding present for their master, and they've just been forced to leave a monastery where a conflict between a scribe and the abbess has been left unresolved. I don't play that often so when I do pick up the book again, I have to re-familiarize myself with the path, but the time away allows fresh ideas to rise to the top.

It's like he's TRYING to broadcast to the entire world how little he knows about any of the things he's doing and how he's eliminated all of the competent staff who would normally prevent this kind of thing.
Like "Twitter" is one of the most globally recognizable brands in the WORLD, and trying to achieve that type of marketing awareness is INSANELY difficult, not to mention that effective SEO for a single letter is basically impossible to achieve.
For example: think about searching for something like "Jack Black Twitter" and now think about the search for "Jack Black X" how likely are you to land on the result you're trying to find? There's a REASON companies choose names that are natural sounding but slightly obscure. Google, Bing, Yahoo, MySpace, Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, TikTok etc. are names designed to effectively optimize the ability for search engines to locate and elevate the results when people are looking for them. Now think about how many other pages have "X" in them and how a search engine can effectively surface that.
The worst part of this is that this is what the ultra rich are capable of doing to an entire communications system at their whim. Imagine if this was a private postal service, but if it suddenly shut down, every letter or piece of mail that you'd ever sent with them would also vanish. Like, there will be Internet Archive backups, but that's mostly it.
Back in the early 2000s, if your admin went fucking nuts & privated the whole community, if they became mad with power and drove everything into the ground, if someone just didn't renew the domain name or the server owner didn't allow you to keep being hosted — the community could still find backups of the information and restart it somewhere else. I know this because we did exactly that in the early 2000s with the forums I've been an admin of now for almost 15 years.
Twitter can't really do that and Threads or other pop-up replacements are just solutions of other mega corporations trying to monetize upon an unstable market and reinforce their own existing ecosystem, and further gain control over more of those things in a single location that's incentivized AGAINST allowing multi-party interoperability like Reddit cutting off API access to third parties after Twitter did the same. Yes, tumblr is a refuge but for how long?
This is also why online communities moving off webforms and on to Discord gets worrying, because when THOSE communities go dark, the totality of that information up and vanishes. No Web Archive backups. Nothing. There is a worrying volatility about historic information these days, and while I know online platforms don't seem all that important sometimes, it's important to remember random documents and manuscripts are historically significant.
Conversation about preserving digital video games is getting more prominent as companies stop supporting the distribution platforms and the games just up and COMPLETELY vanish at the whims of some random rich idiot who doesn't know what the fuck they're doing, or who does know and doesn't care.
Not just that, but a lot of modern social media platforms are usually the only methods of correspondence we have with at least a few people, and there's a wealthy third party who essentially owns your ability to stay connected to them. It's kind of terrifying to watch how easy it is for someone to sabotage that out of idiocy and ignorance, but it should be more worrying to consider how much easier that would be for someone with the full intent to do so.
Capitalists & oligarchs don't care about the things they preside over, and while it's fun to point and laugh at their expense when the extension of the thing they represent is catching fire, it's important to also consider exactly what the big picture of that means for the future.
I slept in and just woke up, so here's what I've been able to figure out while sipping coffee:
Twitter has officially rebranded to X just a day or two after the move was announced.
The official branding is that a tweet is now called "an X", for which there are too many jokes to make.
The official account is still @twitter because someone else owns @X and they didn't reclaim the username first.
The logo is 𝕏 which is the Unicode character Unicode U+1D54F so the logo cannot be copyrighted and it is highly likely that it cannot be protected as a trademark.
Outside the visual logo, the trademark for the use of the name "X" in social media is held by Meta/Facebook, while the trademark for "X" in finance/commerce is owned by Microsoft.
The rebranding has been stopped in Japan as the term "X Japan" is trademarked by the band X JAPAN.
Elon had workers taking down the "Twitter" name from the side of the building. He did not have any permits to do this. The building owner called the cops who stopped the crew midway through so the sign just says "er".
He still plans to call his streaming and media hosting branch of the company as "Xvideo". Nobody tell him.
This man wants you to give him control over all of your financial information.

Metropolis Magazine reported on two former USPS locations in Chicago and New York, both densely populated urban landscapes desperately lacking green space, had implemented rooftop gardens. The one in Manhattan is the size of Gramercy Park, yet isn't taking up any more space than it was before its existence. What formerly was a practically useless, boring rooftop became a reprieve from city life and smoggy air. This became a new place for people to see each other and have conversations. If it was open to the public, it would undoubtedly become a well-loved third space for so many people.

Green roofs and rooftop gardens also help the built environment. Rooftop gardens provide insulation for the colder seasons but also help the building breath in the hotter months, sinking heating and cooling costs but also lowering the amount of energy it takes to heat and cool a building. Green roofs also have one very beneficial feature for an island city such as Manhattan, which is that it can capture rainwater and prevent it from becoming excess runoff. In recent years, New York City has been experiencing a lot of flooding problems due to the changing climate and that is because the rainwater has nowhere to go.
According to DC.gov, a couple of inches of soil (which is present on all rooftop green spaces) can capture 1" of rain which is the equivalent to about 0.6 gallons of water per square foot of green roof area. Now multiply that by an rooftop green space that has the equivalent square footage to a park and that is a lot of water being stored without any more ground space being taken up.

I am starting with a story from the 90s. Bear with me for not only is it interesting, but it also has a context for our friend, the Chief Digital Officer (CDO).
Around 1996 when credit cards exploded into the market amidst the expected initial chaos, the systems were primitive. Merchant-signing banks accepted transactions from all banks, reimbursing themselves by drawing a draft on the issuing banks through the Federal Reserve System. While the merchant banks sent them through the U.S. postal system, the clearing draft was posted to a suspense ledger. And this was merely half of the entire complicated, siloed process!
Naturally, the credit scene suffered from many unprocessed transactions and criminal activities. Until Dee Hock, a bank official organizing regional committees to address this created what became the ubiquitous credit card company, Visa™. His approach was simple: a mindset change from passive subject to the deliberate architect of a holistic banking ecosystem, which ultimately enabled credit cards to take flight. Hock realized early on the need for a self-serving networked organization that would organize, evolve, and invent itself, and creates what is today the credit card ecosystem.

Every revolution needs an ecosystem to make it happen. Industry 4.0 needs a strong ecosystem of manufacturers, ancillaries, and digital enablers like robots, and another deep tech to deliver. The IT revolution of yesterday needed an ecosystem of software products, hardware products, software service providers, engineering colleges, entrepreneurs, and more. Cut to today’s digital revolution: a fully functional, developed digital ecosystem inside and outside the organization is the need of the hour, with the Chief Digital Officer (CDO) at the center of it.
What is a Digital Ecosystem?
A digital ecosystem consists of:
Chief Digital Officer + team; Chief Information Officer + team & Chief Business/Product Officer + team
Technology/software service providers
Management consultants
Senior leadership and Board
Finally, the customer
Each of the teams and individuals involved is allotted different and specific tasks. But their end goal is the same – to make digital transformation happen, in line with the business goals.
Challenges of A Digital Ecosystem
The ‘digital culture’, promoted by the CDO and his team is still a work in progress. Becoming a worthy ally to the CIO and his team, who is the primary client of the software or technology service providers, is still a challenge. Getting software service providers and management consultants aligned to the data monetization vision has not been simple either. And there is always the concern of a buy-in from the senior leadership, the Board, and of course, the customer.
Organizations often end up giving more importance to team enhancement than team building. Whereas a small yet cohesive, engaged, and motivated team committed to data monetization is far more effective than a large group of diverse roles with no real connection. Let us take the example of a Fortune 100 insurance company. Digital transformation and data monetization were key goals. Huge teams were formed with a lot of leadership hiring as well. But, due to a lack of focus and too many projects with little cohesion, the output was limited to more overheads than any real execution. Significant restructuring and formation of a small team under an able CDO later, the first big idea and success came about. Risk assessment was a capability honed over years with thousands of enterprise clients. So far, this capability was merely an enabler for their core offering i.e. insurance. But thanks to the data monetization mindset, the big idea emerged: what if risk assessment itself is sold as a service to enterprise clients? Who better than an insurance company, the real risk assessment expert, to offer this crucial service? And the ecosystem made the execution happen. The World Post Day marks the Anniversary of the establishment of Universal Postal Union, headquarter at Bern and is held on 09th October of every year. Department of Posts is celebrating National Postal Week 2023 from 09th October, 2023 to 13th October, 2023.
India Post, a vital part of the country's communication and logistics infrastructure, has undergone significant changes over time. From its inception in 1854 during British rule to its
present role as a multifaceted postal, financial, and retail service provider, India Post has adapted to the evolving needs of the nation.
The late 20th century witnessed a paradigm shift with the advent of electronic communication. To stay relevant, India Post embraced technological changes, introducing services like speed post and express parcel post. These innovations aimed to provide faster and more efficient postal solutions, catering to the changing demands of a rapidly modernizing society.
The launch of India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) in 2018 marked another significant step. This move was aimed at leveraging technology to provide banking services to the unbanked and underbanked population. IPPB's services, accessible through post offices and mobile phones, further bridged the gap in financial inclusion. Simultaneously, India Post expanded its retail services, collaborating with e-commerce companies to facilitate the delivery of goods. The rise of online shopping in India presented an opportunity for India Post to redefine its role in the logistics chain, becoming a key player in the e-commerce ecosystem.
The ongoing digital revolution has prompted India Post to further innovate. Mobile applications and online platforms have been introduced to enhance the customer experience, allowing individuals to track parcels, access postal services, and manage their finances with ease. Moreover, sustainability has become a focus for India Post in recent years. The organization has implemented eco-friendly initiatives, including the use of electric vehicles for mail delivery and the promotion of paperless communication. These efforts align with global trends towards environmentally conscious practices.
In summary, India Post has undergone a remarkable transformation over the years, adapting to technological advancements, economic shifts, and societal changes. From its origins as a postal service provider, it has diversified into financial services, e-commerce logistics, and digital solutions. As India continues to evolve, so will the services of India Post, reflecting commitment to innovation, inclusivity, and efficiency.
Facts and Figures
Maharashtra Circle consists of two States i.e. Maharashtra and Goa. There are 6 regions, 43 Postal and 7 RMS Divisions. With the wide network of post offices viz. 61 Head Post offices, 2,157 Sub Post offices and 11,812 Branch Post offices, distributed across rural areas of Maharashtra and Goa, the Department is able to provide banking and delivery services with a total of 19,930 Departmental Staff and 19,269 Gramin Dak Sevaks.
Since the last five years, Maharashtra Circle has recruited 5,465 Postal Assistants, 5,863 Postmen/Mail guards and 3,635 Multi-Tasking staff. Besides, 9,344 Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS) have been engaged in Branch Post offices in rural areas. During the current year, 6,282 posts has been notified for recruitment of GDS. The process for engagement in under progress.
Parcel Directorate has been set up for capturing the e-Commerce Market. For processing the parcels in Maharashtra Circle, 27 Nodal Delivery centers are functioning for direct and mechanized delivery of parcels. Agreement for Rail Gati Shakti, joint parcel product with the Indian Railways is signed to leverage last mile reach of India Post and middle mile strength of Railways. Average daily receipt of parcels are around 44,500 of all kinds. Average daily receipt of mail of all categories is 18.95 lakhs.
India post have ventured into the Global Market through Dak Niryat Kendras. In Maharashtra Circle, 56 Dak Niryat Kendras are functional wherein, the small and medium exporters have registered themselves. These exporters can file online Postal Bill of Export for seamless booking of commercial export of parcels.
India post is the largest postal network in the world, which serves as a critical lifeline for communication and financial services in India. Post Office is One Stop Shop. In Maharashtra Circle, 41 offices function as Passport Sewa Kendras, 1288 provide Aadhaar Services, 52 offices facilitate booking of Railway tickets, 15,169 post offices provide services of Common Service Centers. All the post offices provide Insurance and Financial services. 75 ATM's have been installed in Maharashtra Circle.
Services of Post offices viz. Postal Life Insurance, Core Banking Service, India Post Payments Bank services and other Postal Services such as booking and delivery of articles are offered to members of public residing in remote areas using RICT devices, through 11,812 Rural Branch Post Offices, including 829 located in LWE areas.
Department of Posts has launched Darpan 2.0 Android mobile App for providing faster and safer Postal services to customers in remote areas. Under this mega launch project, old RICT devices have been replaced by supply of new Mobile Handsets to all Branch Postmasters (i.e. End Users) under Darpan 2.0 Android Mobile App. 11,812 mobile devices have been supplied to Branch offices.
In respect of Saving Bank activities, Maharashtra circle has 2.59 crores of Live accounts. 3.55 lakhs Mahila Samman Saving Certificate Schemes accounts amounting to Rs. 2185 crores have been opened in Maharashtra Circle up to 02.10.2023 since the date of introduction i.e. 1/4/2023.
Maharashtra circle has opened 11 lakhs India Post Payment Bank accounts during the current financial year, contributing to a total of 85.77 lakhs of IPPB accounts since inception. IPPB also provides third party products viz. GIC. Last year Maharastra topped the Pan India list with 9.5 lakh policies with premium of 38.38 Crores. Besides this, IPPB also provides generation of Live Certificates for the Pensioners. During last year, 57,928 live certificates were generated. One instance of how the postman can reach the old and sick is annexed in Annexure ‘A’.
Maharashtra Postal circle has achieved new premium collection of Rs. 23.97 crores with 25,500 number of policies in respect of PLI and Rs.15.39 crores with 25,413 no of policies in respect of RPLI during the current financial year.
Maharashtra Circle has achieved a revenue of more than 1500 Cr each, during the last two years. The current revenue achievement is Rs.724 cr upto August 2023
The deployment of QR code-based payment facility in post offices is a milestone in the society's migration towards a digital economy, as the Post Office is an institution of the common man whose social significance goes much beyond its revenue figures. Provision of digital payment facility is a future- oriented initiative which marks the presence of the post office in the revolution of “Digital India” campaign and contributes to India becoming a digitally empowered society. Total transactions done during 2022-2023 were 332069 with an amount of Rs. 4.37 cr. In the current year 91874 transactions have been done with a total amounting to Rs. 1.62cr.

Digital Life Certificate (DLC)

He was bed ridden then and his family members were worried about how to get done the DLC for his pension. One day his daughter Smt Shama Deshpande visited Hadapsar IE post office and met Shri Pandurang Anande, Post man Hadapsar IE and explain him the whole situation. Immediately Shri Pandurang Anande went to Shinde Nursing home with her and not only done the DLC of Shri Ramesh Sabnis but also open the IPPB account. Due to this prompt and doorstep service in the ICU ward by our Post man every body was appreciated him and expressed thanks to the Department of Posts. After this Shri Pandurang Anand have served many pensioners and he is amongst the one of the top performed in the Pune Region in providing IPPB services to all sections of public.

Day-wise Activities for National Postal Week
On 9th October 2023 – ‘World Post Day’ – This year’s World Post Day theme is ‘Together For Trust’. The purpose is to create awareness about the Post’s role in the everyday lives of people and businesses, as well as its contribution to global social and economic development. A special cancellation on World Post Day, a Presentation Pack and Pack of postcards with a special cancellation on Avian Diversity of Maharashtra & Goa will be released on 9th October, 2023.
On 10th October 2023 – ‘Vittiya Sashaktikaran Diwas’ – Dak Community Development Program (Dak Choupal ) has been organized in 113 locations in Maharashtra with active participation of all stake holders from Central, State and Local Government bodies. The Dak Community Development Program (DCDP) aims at bringing all Welfare schemes of Central Government, State Government and Local authorities at one platform exclusively for beneficiaries. It also includes raising awareness among the members of public about all prevalent schemes and the means to avail such benefits. POSB quizzes are organized for the customers, agents, GDS and Departmental staff.
On 11th October 2023 – ‘Philately Day’: A Postcard showing AUGMENTED REALITY in Philately alongwith a the cancellation will be released. A pack of postcards on Stepwells of Maharashtra alongwith a Special cancellation will also be released. The function will be concluded with a Post Crossing Meet up.
On 12th October 2023 – ‘Mails and Parcel Day’ – Conducting workshops with Postmasters and delivery staff posted in field units (Delivery post offices/Nodal Delivery Centre) through VC/physical mode by all Divisional Heads/Sub Divisional Heads for improving delivery efficiency, for correct and effective utilization of Postman Mobile App by delivery staff, sensitization of delivery staff for delivery of Parcels at the doorsteps of the addressee. Customer Meet for bulk customers is being organized to inform customers about new initiatives taken under Parcel Tracker. 
On 13th October 2023 – ‘Antyodya Diwas’ –is celebrated to commemorate the contribution of the Department of Posts in the lives of the common man. Awareness cum Aadhar enrolment and updation camps will be organised in rural/remote areas and urban slums. People will be made aware of the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), Social Security Pensions, Jan Suraksha Schemes and other products and services of the Department.
