I’ve been thinking about the infodumping to the chain about Zelda games post and all I want to do now is tell them about the speedrunning in botw 💀

Like imagine looking Wild dead in the eyes and telling him that he could’ve beaten Ganon with a pot lid and a spoon completely naked not even a day after he wakes up habdmdvsusjsbd

Even better, imagine the potential angst if the boys DID use speedrun strategies... because of Isekai! Reader. Reader is their player, and the line between their control and the boys' free will is incredibly blurry at best >:]

#1 Chain x Speedrunner! Deity! Isekai! Reader - Who's in Control?

When you first fell through the portal and joined the chain on their quest, you had revealed that they were only stories in your world. It had taken a while for them to understand the concept of a video game, and even longer for them to come to terms with the fact that some of the most traumatic events of their lives were reduced to children’s entertainment. However, as they talked with you, they came to another horrifying discovery: YOU were their “player.” Your actions in your world, the decisions you made while playing the games, directly influenced their own lives. What’s more, you were a speedrunner.

Wild

It was a peaceful day in camp. You were sitting near the fire, watching Wild cook, chatting about nothing in particular. Suddenly, his head snapped up, as if he suddenly realized something important.

“You made me fight Ganon in my underwear.” he says. He stares at you. You stare back, unsure how to respond. Anything you could say dies in your throat. He continues. “I couldn’t beat Ganon back when the Champions were alive. Back when I had the Master Sword. But you managed with a pot lid and a spoon.”

“Well, that was still you.” You can feel the sweat run down the back of your neck. “The line between what’s me and what’s you is kind of blurry. It didn’t feel like you were being controlled, did it?”

“No. I just remember thinking I had to get to the castle as soon as possible.” Wild looks down at his hands, contemplating his next words. “I did things without thinking, really. When I jumped around and shot that arrow, I didn’t know why. It just seemed… natural.”

You were aware of what he was talking about. A common way to skip Windblight Ganon. The only things needed were some well-placed jumps and an arrow. Shooting the arrow at just the right place would make it get stuck in Windblight’s head, essentially one-shotting him.

Wild turns back up at you.

“You made me fight Ganon in my underwear.” He emphasizes the last few words, as if he still can’t come to terms with this reality.

“I’m sorry?” You really don’t know what to say. Nothing could possibly make this situation worse. “It would have made a difference, really. I wasn’t planning on getting hit, so armor was pointless.”

“That’s right. I didn’t get hit once.” Wild looks shocked. “I dodged everything.”

“So everything worked out!” You smile nervously.

“But why?” He asks incredulously. “Wasn’t it hard? Why would you go straight to the castle?”

“Gotta go fast?”

Four

Another busy day at camp. There was food to cook, clothes to mend, weapons to fix. While the others went out to gather materials, you and Four kept yourselves busy, trying to get as much done as possible before they got back.

“Y/N. You played my games, right? You kind of influenced what I did and stuff?” Four asks out of the blue.

“Yea, why?” You put down the shirt you were mending and looked up at him. He was staring into the distance, as if lost in thought.

“Are you the reason why I could walk through that wall?” He turns to look directly at you. His gaze is almost paralyzing.

“Which time are you talking about?” You laugh nervously. “There’s a couple areas in The Minish Cap where you can glitch through walls into other areas.”

“The Octorock!” He exclaims, “I pushed a pot into the wall and went through the wall! Did that actually happen? I thought I was going crazy!”

“Oh, yeah. The Octo Clip is essential for speedrunning.” You explain. “It’s one of the few glitches available in your game for the 100% category.”

“Speedrunning?” He tilts his head, confused. “What’s that?”

“It’s a thing people do when playing video games. It’s like a challenge to see how fast you can beat the game. People compete to get the fastest time.” You pick up your needle again, praying that would be the end of the conversation. Talking about the nature of the chain’s free will was uncomfortable to say the least.

“Did you win, at least?” Four asks. He could understand competition; one of his games was mostly a competition between the colors.

“Ugh, not even close. I messed up the timing on the final boss so the fight took way longer than necessary. I ended up missing the top ten by a whole minute.” You lament.

“I think I remember that. I was fighting Vaati, and suddenly started panicking. I thought I was just scared.” He points an accusing finger at you. “But that was you, realizing you messed up?”

“I guess?” You shrug. “It could be both. Like, maybe you just happened to feel fear at the same time I realized I messed up? Or maybe you felt fear, causing me to mess up? It doesn’t have to just be me influencing you. It’s the multiverse. You probably influenced me too… right?” You try not to sound too desperate with your question. Surely, this connection went both ways. Otherwise… you don’t want to think about the possible implications.

“Maybe.” Four nods, but you can tell he doesn’t really believe it. With nothing more to say, you slip into silence.

Warriors

(I legit cannot find speedrun glitches for his game??? Let’s dive even deeper into the nature of freewill lmao.)

Warriors was silent as you walked along the trail. The rest of the group had run ahead, apparently excited about something they had spotted over the horizon. The last thing you heard was Wild shouting something about Hinox toenails. You were glad to have a moment of silence. You loved the boys to death, but they were a bit much at times. Unfortunately, the silence was short-lived.

“I’ve been talking to the others about their adventures. Now that we know about you, some things are starting to make sense.” Warriors’ voice is quiet, his voice low. Almost threatening. You don’t say anything. He continues. “Four told me you like to do something called speedrunning? Where you try to beat the game as fast as possible.”

“Yeah,” you say. You can feel his gaze on you. “I’m not very good at it. Most of my times don’t even get on the leaderboard.”

“And your behavior during the games influences our world.” It’s not a question. He knows.

“I guess?” You chuckle nervously, suddenly finding the dirt beneath your fingernails very interesting. “I’m still trying to figure that out. Multiverse travel be wild.”

“Was it worth it?” His voice is laced with venom.

“What?”

“What is worth it?” He repeats, then scoffs at your confused expression. “You wanted to beat my game as fast as possible. You’re the reason Zelda and I were constantly trying to push forward. Even when our supplies were low. Even when we knew we were outnumbered. That. Was all. YOU.”

You don’t know when you stopped walking. You only realize when you notice the small wet spots on the ground in front of you. You wipe your eyes, trying to stop the tears. It doesn’t help. Warriors only watches.

“I’m sorry.” Your lip trebles, but you keep looking at the ground, using your bangs as a curtain to hide your face. You don’t want him to see you start sobbing. That wouldn’t help anything.

“Sure you are.” He continues walking, leaving you standing in the middle of the path, completely alone. Before he’s out of earshot, he turns to look over his shoulder, and sarcastically remarks, “Glad you had fun.”

i think viktor enjoys open-world games rather than more action packed games

Twilight Princess would be his favourite out of the other games mostly because of the general aesthetic and how it’s one of the more “darker” games of the franchise

Street Fighter is pretty much a classic in fighting games, so i think it’s something Vi would enjoy

has played against Jinx, never doing it again cus they almost tore each other apart

NOW, IN THE CASE OF TLOU-

clickers and bloaters stress her the fuck out

died around 4 times in a row during the first encounter with a bloater

even though she could have weapons or even bricks at her disposal, most of the time she fights with her bare fists

died trying to speedrun the stealth sections because she didn’t have the patience

ellie and joel’s relationship hit a bit too close to home with her

i think she would take a break from the second game after joel’s death, no literally, it would leave her absolutely broken

Caitlyn

Life Is Strange & Fire Emblem

Caitlyn would enjoy Life is Strange due to its theme of moral choices

i think she’d be a bit thrown off by the more supernatural aspects of the game, but she’d enjoy nonetheless

she’s pretty much canonically a detective figure

so i think she’d be pretty satisfied if she manages to uncover something beforehand

has talked about the game to vi, in the same way a fnaf fan would explain the lore

NOW AS FOR FIRE EMBLEM (i know, i’m hilarious-)

the overall aesthetic of her design and the Kiramman house just gave me the game’s vibes, y’know?

now for BOTW, Ekko would be absolutely mesmerised by every single location and sight (minus the guardians)

Rito Village reminds him of the hideout

did try to fight Ganon without the necessary equipment but lost

a little timebomb thingy, he would name one of his horses after Jinx/Powder, especially if it’s one of the blue horses

gets irritated when the stable won’t accept a peculiar horse (skeleton or lord of the mountain)

there isn't (tis a shame) BUT i can yap PLENTY

i'll basically just talk abt the basics n if ppl want more details or ask specific questions then they can :)) lost is wild if he didn't forget in the shrine of resurrection. so yes, he's technically wild but he is VERY different he replaces wild, however there is an au where theyre both in the chain and we call em the trauma twins affectionately. he's the last to join and whoo boy does this boy have some trauma everything pre-calamity is the same + some headcanons. botw is mostly the same? the notable differences are that lost went through it as fast as he could (not in a speedrun way) so that way he could fufill his sense of duty to zelda, and that he didnt sneak into gerudo bc he was able to prove himself as a champion (he still respected customs he just. didnt actively ignore the law like wild did. menace /aff) he isn't as connected to the world around them and the few people that roam the land like wild is totk is a swap au (lost gets sent back in time) because lost has a terrible habit of being extremely self sacrificial. as for lost as a character, he's still the silent knight from Before. his knight training and thought processes are still in his head, just significantly more unhealthy from him failing the first time. theres so much to lost that i havent even brushed on but here's a list of all the issues this poor man has off the top of my head:

work i’m most proud of (and why): i think it's Hand Over Hand just because it's the first fic i finished and posted this year. thank you TOTK for frustrating and compelling me enough to break my years-long dry streak! in this fic, link and zelda meet ganon's new baby incarnation in gerudo town; it's about feeling trapped in gender roles and social positions in hyrule.

work i’m least proud of (and why): not applicable, i'm proud of having written anything. i don't think i absolutely crushed the execution on any of my fics, but i was prioritizing done over perfect. so it goes.

share or describe a favorite review you received: not one in particular, but Bedroom Diplomacy (the Foreigner fic) got the most "oh my god nobody is writing fic for this book fandom let me meticulously articulate my feelings about these characters that i've been saving up for a decade" paragraph responses i've ever had. god bless them. me too.

a scene or character you wrote that surprised you: i don't know, i feel like all my fics this year are very Fics By Pell? oh of course i'm writing fealty pwp/thinking about gerudo gender/getting briefly obsessed with OCs made up on the spur of the moment just to flesh out a scene. what else would i do.

i'm just gonna give this one to the OCs Speedrun and Triage in Can I Do Less?, my fic about ratchet in tf1 being Transformers Cis. i think they're fun.

a favourite excerpt of your writing: this bit from A Short, Sharp Lesson, my future megs meets baby megs transformers fic. i like the rhythm i hit; i like the seeds it sows for future megs within baby megs's viewpoint; i like the stupid little wordplays that i carefully do not flag at all, which are imo a huge hallmark of my fic just because i can't resist slipping in jokes literally wherever possible. later in this fic i describe a Cybertonian earthquake as a "geological segfault." get fucked.

The miners all have their own theories as to why. The secular transformists talk about stellar phenomena. The devout talk about Primus: our god is an uneasy sleeper, they say. The Prime Mover isn't like us, hooked up to a charge cable on our sprues and runners in the locker room between shifts. Our god is the One True Infinite Motion Machine, the First Generator who brings life-giving minerals to the surface for the faithful and who keeps Cybertron's magnetic field active for His children.

D-16 knows there's more to it than that. Primus is testing them on their every shift. Are His children smart, fast, determined, lucky? And every shift of his life so far D-16 has answered yes, yes, yes, yes.

how do you hope to grow this year: mmmmm i'm worried about the quality of my prose! getting words down is good but i'm concerned that i only remember how to write very plainly. i miss the poetry of my older work.

who was your greatest positive influence this year as a writer (could be another writer, beta, cheerleader, etc.): oh god lol i really don't have an answer. thank you to my friends who have cheered on my incomprehensible obsession with transformers and turts because it's what got me to start writing at a faster clip again. shout out to tanya whose sniperspy manic phase has been an inspiration. 🫡

any projects you’re looking to starting (or finishing) this year: i have 1.5 chapters to go on my current TMNT fic and i'm looking forward to knocking the rest out over the weekend! it's been so much fun working at a fast pace again. this TMNT fic is mostly people talking, and i'd like to do something with more plot/action. i was reminded recently of how much i like writing fight choreography! more of that sort of thing.

i have two wips on the go for TF1: one "what if we stopped the underlying tragedy of megop with the power of physical comedy" that's about 1/3 drafted, and one "what if the underlying tragedy of megop got worse with timeloops" that's outlined and not drafted.

Hello lovely anon! I will paste the ficlet into this post. I'm a bit sheepish to admit, but after a while I kind of forgot about this AU. If you'd like to see more of it, though, I'd be more than happy to keep writing it!

Oh, one more quick note: It’s not exactly how I’d rewrite the story of the game from Speedrunner!Link’s perspective, it's more like how the aftermath would go if you took the speedrunner approach. I hope that's okay :)

It’s over, it’s finally over. The thing that had loomed over Hyrule Castle ever since he woke up two days ago was gone- hopefully for good.

He gazes at the girl across from him- Zelda, the old man had said her name was- the girl covered in malice and the grime of a century of hatred. Her blonde curls are matted and tangled and she’s covered in what looks like burn scars as she stares back at him with eyes the color of things that are alive- the only bright spot in her tarnished facade.

She blinks, hesitant, as if she’s not sure whether to stand there or run to him and fling her arms around him. He doesn’t know which he wants. So he stands there catching his breath, and she stands there dithering, and then the fleetest flicker of a smile crosses her colorless lips, and she says:

"May I ask... Do you really remember me?"

He stands there, because he doesn't really know what else to do. How could he? Her smile is widened in anticipation of what she wants to hear, a smile so warm and bright and hopeful that it makes him want to say yes, of course I remember you and see that smile turn to tears of joy that they can cry together.

But he can't. He couldn't lie to her. It would break her heart. He doesn't remember a thing about her- everything he knows about her he's learned in the past 48 hours.

So it's all he can do to clear his throat and stammer out, "No."

The smile vanishes in an instant, replaced by knitted brows and eyes full of concern. “Oh- oh, I see.” She crosses the field, her luminous gown flapping in the evening twilight like a tattered battle standard, and she halts in front of him to cup his face in her slender hands and gaze into his eyes- as if she could figure out what’s wrong with him simply by staring hard enough. 

“Do… if I may… can… do you remember anything? Anything at all?”

He screws his eyes shut and tries to reach back behind the curtain of blackness, but as hard as he tries, the furthest thing he can grasp is a sweet voice- her voice- begging him to wake up, to find her. He shakes his head in wordless apology, opening his eyes just in time to see hers cloud with disappointment. 

“I’m sorry,” is the only thing he can think to mumble.

“Not your fault,” she mutters back, almost to herself. She’s lost in a reverie, thinking of what next to do, and then her eyes snap back to his and the disappointment is replaced by determination. 

“You know what? That’s not important right now. We’ll figure something out. Just… come with me; we’ll make camp somewhere and pick this up in the morning.”

ok sorta a random post but i've been learning how to do botw any% speedrun for funsies and wanted to share some of my favorite tricks ive learned ✨

Hi it's the Slate anon again um. I love your posts on botw modern AUs just imagining all the antics they would get into. You know they would all have a group chat together, Urbosa writes with proper punctuation and everything, every one of Zelda's messages is programmed to sign with "Her Royal Highness Zelda Bosphoramus Hyrule CCLXXVII" and Daruk writes every single thing in all caps. Link as quiet as he is means every time they see "Link is typing..." it's a national event (and it ends up being "ok" or "🫡")

Daruk would have a long distance game night every week for a "bonding session" but an hour each time is spent in him figuring out how to turn on the camera for the video call. Mipha invites Zelda, Revali and link to her animal crossing island and Zelda does nothing but fill the museum with animals while revali spends an embarrassing amount of time decorating the island. A Mario kart session nearly led to the murder of multiple champions

zelda's signature LMFAOOO i bet she started off with just "—Zelda" and then kept adding shit until it was ridiculously long and she just keeps adding stuff it to the point where if she just sends the word "hi" her signature is 99% of the message. daruk absolutely types in all caps and he tries to use slang words but it's a hit or miss he's very much the How Do You Do Fellow Kids? meme. i agree w link being quiet in the chat, but i'm torn between him being online often and just lurking silently + reacting to messages with emojis or him constantly having his phone on do not disturb, low brightness, and <10% battery all the time 😭😭 the gang buys him chargers but he always somehow breaks them ksjhdfjkd

the idea of the champions having a game night over like a discord call or something is so fuckign cute im cryingfhgjk it doesn't matter what the game is, revali is going to end up being ridiculously competitive and try to win every single time. link effortlessly beats him every time tho LMAOKDJFHDKJF zelda link and revali playing animal crossing together 🥺🥺🥺 link lowkey be tearing up zelda's island and steals all her fruit though LOL

this kinda made me think of a twitch streamers au 😄 i think zelda would be like a just talking/variety streamer like think pokimane or valkyrae; mipha would play games like animal crossing or stardew valley, but then randomly do a fortnite stream but the thing is she would fucking slay at it????? 😭 i feel like urbosa would play a lot of horror games like dead by daylight, resident evil etc. me personally i can't handle horror so props to urbosa bc it doesn't faze her at all whatsoever

i'm not sure what daruk would stream? would he even be able to get his setup together like he lowkey gives me the same vibes as the one time snoop dogg did a stream and forgot to log off so the live was just on for like 12 hours or something LMAO. now revali and link....... they are The Streamers Ever. i think they're both variety streamers but also like speedrunner rivals and also revali would speedrun elden ring and link would speedrun super mario odyssey

imagining the champions+zelda getting brought together by like . fuckin, idk someone doing love or host (hestu but he's the austinshow KJDHFDJKH) and the dynamic between them all is just so good they end up somehow becoming a stream team :] the champions+zelda playing jackbox or among us together :> revali losing his shit when he gets killed but also being the most efficient murderer and so is link so they kill everyone else in the game Quick Asf 😳 revalink have a "We are a good team" klance moment LOL......

imagine the champions having a minecraft server that they stream on and it's called the CSMP (Champions SMP). zelda has admin perms and revali is always asking for admin too claiming that he's the second most responsible person on the team, and to prove a point, zelda then gives admin to urbosa much to revali's chagrin. while this is all happening, daruk is still learning the wasd keys and trying to move and link is already in the nether #SpeedrunnerLife! mipha is 1000 blocks away swimming with dolphins and finds a sunken ship with treasure :> they eventually add the descendants to the SMP too, and impa and rhoam make special appearances on link and zelda's streams!

So I need to share I've seen posts going on about Zelda in TotK being taller now than Link, and considering botw fandom IS indeed so much thirsty, I am awaiting something like the two to be drawn like this:

my good friend i still haven't played TotK (i've been extraordinarily busy between my deranged homosexual artist activities and my life as an accomplished scholar as we know. just had to be gay and speedrun assignments as usual, so i practiced self-restraint and did not buy the game. i desperately want it tho) which is why i haven't been posting like a rabid dog with a keyboard and decent media literacy. so unfortunately i don't have the knowledge (or time) required to draw this (which i would. i see the vision.) but my zelink loving ass will be WAITING for people to draw this just like you. and if they still haven't done it when i'm less busy, i might do it myself.

(but let's be real. i'll probably be busy with ganon like the rest of the fandom. i mean. we know how i feel about his VA.)

Tears of the Kingdom Spoilers (for what I’ve gathered, at least.)

Zelda’s in an infinite Causality Loop. Because she’s there as the Light Dragon in the Present in literally the title card AND probably also there with Link before ToTK even begins which is fucking WILD to think about.

Because Zelda’s a Sage of Time in ToTK, and the only other game she WAS a Sage of Time was in Ocarina, We can safely assume that the timelines all interconnected, and that a new loop has taken form. But as also like how many years has it been since BoTW? 5? 10? Somewhere in the middle?

Tulin and Riju note towards it being somewhere between 5-10 but the whole timeline of Kass soon leaving and Penn showing up and talking like Kass was some sort of big ol legend. also Revali’s bow being 28 x3 is very sadge and pitiful for Link to have.

 god that would also mean Dragon Zelda would’ve gone through time and would probably maybe be floating around in Past BOTW, present BOTW and then ToTK, unless they traveled in time to post BOTW pre TOTK

God Aizen in ToTK given all the life and plotting I’ve given him over on discord.. I don’t have to change much up except for Him probably giving Revali’s Bow to Teba so he can hand it off to Tulin when they’re ready. All I know is that this dumbass Rito is gonna see Link again after all of these Zonai structures have appeared for a grand total of 10 minutes before they go back to what they’re doing.

Link Not having the shiekah slate makes sense because Zelda is the one who has it, (at least she has it so he’s not constantly putting his life in danger even more, looking at Wind Bombs, especially. Is it explicitly stated how many years it has been? Anyway I’ve watched way too many speedruns the dupe glitches are canon.

Not about music but growing up I always had to pirate games. Not a statement asking for pity, just a fact that happened. Sometimes I'd feel bad, but I mostly just wanted to play videogames.

One day I pirated Undertale. It became my entire identity for two years. I *loved* that game and it affected me in ways no game really has ever since. I played it over and over so many times, trying to get faster and faster (I don't know if I knew what a speedrun was), looking for secrets, finding them on my own (It should be noted I played undertale without access to the internet, I was staying at my grandparents summer house at the time). I still remember how smart I felt when I figured out how to solve the piano puzzle, or that you could sell dog residue for infinite money, or how to edit the save file to give me 999 hp to fight sans. I don't think I ever had or ever will have such an experience with a game again. It was the most memorable summer and it completely changed how I viewed videogames ever since. However I've given Toby Fox no money

Fast forward a couple years and I buy myself a Switch. It's a good console, and I was really enjoying playing the two games I bought with it (botw and metroid dread). Still, I decided to open the e-shop and see if there are any games I'd like to purchase. The second I open the front page I see it.

Undertale

I couldn't even finish a thought before I bought it. This game means so much to me, and now that I could finally buy it, pay for it, I did. I haven't touched it in years and yet I still remembered everything. It was like visiting the neighbourhood you grew up in and seeing how little everything changed. I finished it the same evening.

I don't think you're morally required to buy games you pirated once you have the money. Hell I didn't do it with every game I've pirated (if I did I would go bankrupt). But I know that just because someone can't pay for a game, or chooses not to, says nothing about whether they would support the developer or not. I didn't just do this with undertake too btw! Spiritfarer is another game that I bought *because* I loved it so much

Anyway fats forward another couple of years and I learn about the Bits and Pieces mod. It's for Desktop and I don't have money to buy Undertale on steam at the moment, so I just pirate it. At this point I already paid Mr Toby Fox (to be more precise I paid Nintendo and they gave him a cut), and had I the money to do so, I probably wouldn't have objected to buying the game on Steam. But I didn't, so I just looked up a pirated version and installed the mod on it.

I was greeted with a fucking anti piracy screen. Undertale doesn't have one. At first I assumed they just did the kind of piracy screen I have found memories of - "hey dude just tell your friends about the game if you can't buy it". I remember seeing one on my pirated copy or Terraria.

Nope. The game told me I am a greedy little fucker and should go pay Toby Fox. Like it literally says "you gotta pay Toby Fox". This wasn't added by Toby, this was added by a *mod*. It genuinely felt kinda disgusting. Of course I looked up how to go around the anti piracy screen, but it made the entire experience much more miserable. It was like coming back to the neighborhood you grew up in only to see it gentrified and fenced off

fun fact: if you pirated six full length albums from your favourite band, listened to them all back to back 5 times, and then sent them $20 on ko-fi or whatever, on average they would have earned slightly more money per play than they'd get from you streaming the same shit with ads on spotify.
