🏆 2024 - Fourth Time's the Charm
Main post! 2020 2021 2022 2023
By 2024, Max Verstappen had firmly established himself as the benchmark in Formula 1, consistently outperforming his rivals and teammates. The season reflected Red Bull Racing’s continued excellence with the RB20, an evolution of the team’s already dominant platform. Let’s break down Verstappen’s success and its context in the wider competition.
Team Comparisons
Red Bull (Verstappen vs. Pérez) Verstappen’s superior adaptability to the RB20 was evident. While Sergio Pérez had moments of brilliance, his inability to match Verstappen’s consistency—particularly on high-speed circuits—left him as a supporting player rather than a challenger. Verstappen extracted peak performance from the RB20 in all conditions, benefiting from its improved aerodynamics and unmatched rear stability.
McLaren McLaren emerged as Red Bull’s closest competitor, thanks to major mid-season updates to the MCL60 that improved its cornering speed and tire degradation. Lando Norris displayed remarkable pace, particularly at the British and Singapore GPs, where his high-pressure battles with Verstappen proved thrilling. However, McLaren’s car lacked the versatility of the RB20, making them competitive only on certain tracks.
Ferrari Ferrari began the season with high hopes, but the SF-24 struggled with race pace and tire management, especially on high-degradation tracks. Charles Leclerc, while quick over one lap, couldn’t consistently challenge Verstappen on Sundays. Ferrari’s strategy missteps, reminiscent of past seasons, further compounded their struggles.
Mercedes Mercedes found itself grappling with an inconsistent W15. George Russell showed flashes of competitiveness, while Lewis Hamilton’s vast experience allowed him to extract results from a sub-optimal car. Despite their collective efforts, neither driver posed a serious threat to Verstappen.
Driver Comparisons and Defining Races
Saudi Arabian GP Verstappen’s victory in Jeddah demonstrated his tactical acumen and ability to withstand pressure. Facing stiff challenges from Norris and Leclerc, Verstappen’s precise defensive driving and superior race pace were critical.
British GP Lando Norris pushed Verstappen to the limit in a wheel-to-wheel battle at Silverstone. Verstappen’s ability to maintain composure under relentless pressure highlighted his mental resilience and racecraft.
Singapore GP Starting outside the top 10 due to a rare qualifying mishap, Verstappen climbed through the field to secure a podium. This race exemplified his calculated aggression and Red Bull’s race-day adaptability.
Sao Paulo Outlier
Alpine’s 2024 season exemplified the extremes of Formula 1 performance variability. Despite a largely disappointing year, the team achieved a remarkable breakthrough in one standout event—widely referred to as the “Sao Paulo outlier.” This race showcased a perfect storm of favorable conditions, from strategic brilliance to driver execution, allowing Alpine to capitalize on the unique circumstances. The event highlighted flaws in the Constructors' Championship structure, where a single exceptional result could disproportionately affect standings. This anomaly has reignited debates on the fairness and consistency of F1’s points system, with calls for revisions to better reflect team performance across an entire season.
Williams Fiasco
Logan Sargeant’s struggles at Williams culminated in his mid-season replacement by Franco Colapinto, an Argentine driver making history as the first from his country to compete in F1 since Gastón Mazzacane. Sargeant’s inconsistent performances, particularly in race craft and qualifying, left Williams seeking a more reliable talent. Colapinto, highly rated for his feeder series successes, brought renewed energy to the team and quickly demonstrated his potential with solid results. This transition symbolized the high-stakes nature of F1, where even slight underperformance can lead to drastic career changes.
📈 The Formula for Success
What changed after 2020? Red Bull and Verstappen identified their weaknesses and turned them into strengths. The cars became more reliable, faster, and easier to handle across varying conditions. Verstappen matured as a driver, evolving from a hot-headed talent into a calculated and relentless competitor. Perhaps most crucially, Red Bull’s strategic brilliance on the pit wall often outmanoeuvred competitors, ensuring they made the most of their opportunities. Max Verstappen’s dominance is a testament to hard work, adaptability, and the relentless pursuit of perfection. His story continues to inspire and redefine what it means to be a Formula 1 champion.
Max Verstappen’s 2024 season was the culmination of talent, engineering excellence, and strategic mastery. By continuously evolving and learning from past challenges, Verstappen and Red Bull set a new standard in modern Formula 1.
Future changes may be made to this post depending on how Qatar and AbuDhabi GPs turn out.
Please don’t copy my work🙏

lewis hamilton, p2 p1, is interviewed during the post-race press conference, belgium - july 28, 2024 (transcript under the cut)
Interviewer: "Lewis, let's come to you now. As George says, you drove a great race today. Just how do you sum up your run to P2?" Lewis: "I think it was great. George did a fantastic job today. Obviously I'll re-watch the race and… But yeah, fantastic effort to go the one-stop. And it was pretty smooth sailing, to be honest. I was fully in control, I had plenty of pace and tires, and [laughs] just didn't end up as planned." Interviewer: "Plenty of tires. Did you consider the one-stop?" Lewis: "I mean, I kept… If you listen, you could have heard what I said to the team most of the time. But yeah, I think the tires were pretty good. I still had plenty of tires and I was going quicker. I didn't want to stop." Interviewer: "Tell us about the transformation in the car, because on Friday both of you guys… I mean, to quote Toto Wolff, you were nowhere. How much better was the car today and where was it better?" Lewis: "It was literally night and day different today. On Friday it was pretty disastrous for both of us and really struggling with balance, and then today just the car came alive and I was really surprised to, firstly, get into the lead, and then be pulling away from everyone and not… Yeah, as I said, it felt fully under control and I've not had that for years, and so that's why it was also a bit strange way to finish it. But it's great to go into the summer break with the one-two. The team really deserve it and did such an amazing job." Interviewer: "Lewis, can you just tidy up one more thing? You came on the radio at one point and said, 'Something's moving between my legs' What was that, and was it an issue later on?" Lewis: "I just had… There was something as I was going through the corner. Something kept rolling underneath my left leg." Interviewer: "Not a serious issue, then. Okay." Lewis: [shakes head] Interviewer: "Lewis, very well done. Thank you."
[time jump] Journalist: "Dan Lawrence, Motorsport Monday. Question to Lewis: This season's been ultra-competitive. We're seeing three teams, at the moment, constantly fighting for wins; a fourth team that has won this season, as well. It almost harks back to the years of 2012 and 2010, which obviously you experienced. So how does this season compare to back then in your mind? And from a psychological standpoint, when you put the helmet on, does it just give you that extra layer of motivation, knowing you've got so many rivals that you've got to defend against and attack against?" Lewis: "You must be new here. I don't have a good memory, so I don't remember back then. [laughs] But what I can say is, it's great. It's really fantastic, I think, for the sport to be having such close teams and drivers, and the pedigree of drivers at the top today are really elite and… Yeah, we didn't expect to be competing with the McLarens or the Red Bulls at this point in the season, with how we started off, so for us to now have closed up and be… It's going to be one hell of a second half of the season, for sure." [time jump]
Journalist: "Phil Duncan, PA. Lewis, you said you didn't want to stop for the second time. Did you say to the team that you only wanted to do one-stop, and obviously how much does it hurt not winning today? Because you looked odds on to win for much of the race. And just to George, Toto called you the tyre whisperer, so how much was this down to you actually driving those tires, saving those tires, or just the strategy?" Lewis: "Nope. I just said that the tires were fine. And I'm happy. Looking forward to going to the summer break." [time jump] Journalist: "Niccolo Arnerich, F1 Analisi Tecnica. Question for both of Mercedes drivers. Which is the main areas to improve right now on the car, on the W15, and which are the main areas you feel that you have done a big improvement in this last month?" Interviewer: "Who wants to start? Lewis." Lewis: "I mean, just overall the car is… We're more comfortable in the car. The balance through low to medium to high are all much more in line with what we had targeted. Yeah, that's really about it." Interviewer: "George, anything to add?" George: "No."

"If Ferrari really wants to succeed, they really need to listen to what Lewis needs and build a car around him that Lewis wants"
I need your thoughts
I wish I could take away the “car is developed around the driver” thing from F1 media 🙏 It gets misused so much. Cars are developed years in advance, and a mark of a good driver is that they're adaptable to their machinery. Driving style plays a difference in setup but ultimately a team is gonna try to build the fastest possible car, period. That car has been already developed way before Lewis came into the team. we are at the end of a regulation cycle! the sf-25 is going to be an evolution of the sf-24 and Lewis going to give extremely valuable feedback on it because he's one of the best drivers the sport has seen and I'm very 👀 about it. Hopefully they nail the updates
(That's why non-Max RBR drivers historically struggle, Max is vastly more adaptable and the team prioritises fast over easy to handle. Until they went too far with it which was again “masked” for months because Max's sheer skill covered it up — the same happened in 2020. That's why Danʼs performance fell off a cliff when he moved to Mclaren, he couldn't adapt to the car which was different from what he'd been driving at RBR and Renault. Note that Lewis absolutely fucking hates the W15 that's why he's experimenting wildly with set-ups all the time. He's still won two races in it this season because he's an amazing driver)
here's a good post that's relevant!

alright its rant time
i wasnt gonna post but then villeneuve kept fucking saying shit so im gonna rant
context: irrelevant former f1 champion jacques villeneuve talking shit about kimi's fp1 session in monza
yes it was a practice session, was kimi pushing a little too much? maybe perhaps. but you put a kid in an f1 car for a session, he's going to push. young guys are coming up into the sport, they are pushing the limits because that is simple the only way to find the limit. they are inevitably going to have a shunt or two. its happened to almost every driver when they are first coming into the sport. you cannot expect a young rookie to come in and drive like they have been in f1 for 10 years. rookie's are going to make some mistakes bc driving an f1 car is very different to driving in the feeder series. even lewis has struggled with the w15 this year.
so how about we don't say things like "he's not ready for f1 because he put it in the wall." how about, as a grown ass man, we don't talk shit about kids who are learning and are excited about their career starting. how about we don't judge a kid on 1 lap in 1 practice session.
we should be supporting young kids being given a shot in this sport because that is how the sport grows, everyone was a rookie once and im sure made their fair share or mistakes, and also is quite literally the entire point of the feeder series, and rookie fp sessions. when max came in as a 17 years old with only one year experience in single seaters, everyone had a lot of shit to say and look at him now. he learnt, he pushed, he fought, and now he is a 3x world champion. i say again, lets not judge so harshly so quickly.
jacques villeneuve is (somehow) a world champion who no one fucking cares about and loves to talk shit and quite frankly, i dont want to hear it.
#i have so much more i could say bc i quite simply despise villeneuve#“after a battle villeneuve eventually succumbed to the pressure and spun off”#<- that is from the race summary of his 2nd race in f1#shocking that new kids in the sport dont perform like they have years of experience#i just dont understand how or why is is so petty about one shunt in one fp session by one rookie#whether or not you think he is ready he's about to have an f1 seat so get over it#f1#formula 1#max verstappen#red bull racing#mercedes#kimi antonelli

Post Qualifying Analysis
We have our top 3 in Max, Charles, and George!
Charles in the SF-24: the car was great. And the gap was only 2 tenths off Max. Charles was on older tyres, and on new he might have been able to close that gap. The SF-24 is looking competitive against the RB-20* This is a very promising start to the 2024 season for Charles at Ferrari. Front row is where we want to be. But based on this the SF-24 is within range of the RB-20 on this track in these conditions and that is cause for optimism.
Max in the RB 20: Of course Max is Max and he brought home pole. However one thing I noticed was the little tow he got from Oscar during that one sector for this time. If we factor in Charles being on older tyres and the tow I think that could close the gap to the RB-20 entirely. Max took it pretty easy that first session then decided to really give us taste of what the RB-20 is capable of in his hands (the fact that the gap to Checo is a few places says that the RB-20 may be even trickier to handle)
George in the W15: George was looking fast in the W-15. Weirdly massive gap to his teammate in Lewis, makes me wonder if Lewis' car isn't properly dialed in yet, or that the W15 suits George better (or both) remains to be seen. 3 tenths gap to the Red Bull, George being able to handle himself against Max is going to be a major deciding factor for his race in particular. He's fast but he can get ahead of himself and back off too early or be too cautious when he should push. But George is off to a great start this season.
* It is still too early in the season to make big predictions, but as it stands based on these lap times and performance we are looking competitive in terms of speed. Testing results also give indication that race pace is better.
* Also Bahrain isn't the best track to make broad assumptions about team or car performance, yes it can give us an idea of where teams stand. We did learn a lot of interesting things about the mid-field as well that will likely carry over to other tracks(I'm so sorry Alpine)

Take A Break | Toto Wolff x Wife! Reader
Summary: Toto has been pushing himself too hard trying to get the upgrades sorted. As his concerned wife, you plan a surprise visit.
Warnings: Tooth rotting fluff. Bad writing
Requested: Yes by Anon (Hope I did this justice)
2024 season. There's a little blurb halfway through as well.

━━━━ ༻𖥸༺ ━━━━
Strolling through the Hungaroring paddock, you kept a tight hold of your son’s hand. Bustling bodies brushed past, paying the the pair of you no heed, which worked well with your surprise.
Over the past few weeks, Toto had been working tirelessly to ensure the upgrades were ready and working in time for the Hungarian Grand Prix, albeit to the detriment of his own health. He’d been sleeping less, running himself ragged to ensure Mercedes didn’t remain fourth in the constructors. After winning at Red Bull Ring and Silverstone, he knew the potential was there. All he had to do was unlock it. But that had meant shorter calls with his wife and son, fewer responses to messages and a growing distance that he hated feeling during the season. And so, arranging a surprise visit during race weekend had been the most obvious solution.
Mercedes hat sat atop his dark hair, Jack babbled about everything he could see as the tall form of George Russell guided you towards the garage.
“Hello, stranger.” Lewis’ voice met your ears when he caught sight of you. “Toto didn’t tell me you were coming. What’s up, little man?”
George vanished into the back of the garage, searching for the Team Principal. Leaning over to the Brit, you pressed a kiss to the cheek of the 7x WDC. Lewis gave your shoulders a squeeze before pulling Jack up into his arms, whisking him over to where the W15 was being polished.
“George, this better be important. I was in the middle of an analysis report-.” A disgruntled Austrian accent filled the garage, bringing a smile to your face. You could picture the deep frown twisting his handsome’s features without even turning to see it.
“Liebe?”
The silver arrows watched the tension seep out of their Team Principal’s face as he took in the appearance of his wife. Striding across the garage floor, he pulled you in for a tight hug, and pressed a chaste kiss to the side of your head. Aware of the eyes on you both, he had to refrain from pressing his lips to yours. Denying you both the deep kiss you truly desired.
“Surprise,” you whispered, slipping your arm around his waist. Your hand automatically rubbing soothing circles against his hip.
“I’m so happy you’re here,” he murmured into your hair, inhaling the familiar scent of home.
“You sounded like you needed us.”
“I always need you.”
“Well, then, let’s go rescue your son from Lewis.”
Holed up in Toto’s office, the Wolff family basked in their first moment of family time since over a month. Toto had ordered everyone to leave them alone until qualifying was due to start or somebody was dying. Thankfully, the team listened and so he spent the past hour listening to his son tell him about school and watching Lewis win a race on telly.
Fussing over the amount of coffee cups in the waste bin, you turned to lecture your husband on his inability to get enough rest but paused, mouth open. Curled up on the deep couch pushed against the wall, Jack was snuggled into his father’s lap. His iPad had fallen to the side, and soft snores escaped from his mouth. Glasses askew, Toto’s chin rested on his son’s head, eyes closed tight. Father and son, exhausted from the excitement of their day.
Taking a quick picture on your phone, you smiled at the sight of your family. Reaching into Jack’s backpack, you pulled out his blanket, draping it over your favourite boys.
“Ich liebe dich,” you whispered, pressing a kiss to each of their foreheads.

f1 related news, facts and plain speculations collected over the past few days
Estrella Galicia cimes back to McLaren and their all other sponsors after the relationship with Ferrari ended to make space for Peroni (who came from Aston Martin sponsors pool)
There are more and more speculations about Alex to Ferrari and from what I understood, Spanish media aren't very happy about that or about articles written about Charles and his reported contract
There are rumours of Prema expanding into Indycar (which I think could be beneficial as some of their drivers are already a part of the series nowadays)
Steiner confirmed he couldn't even say goodbye to the team and thanked them in a live interview with Autosport 2024
Formula E chief said Formula E has its door open for Checo and that he talks to him all the time (rip Checo Perez)
Aston Martin hires Andor Hegedus as Senior Project Designer (he previously worked with RBR and they say he was important for RBR pit stop strategies, so a pretty big name in the game)
Doriane Pin signed to drive in F1 academy for Mercedes but from my understandment she will also be in F4 UAE (and stays part of Iron Damen drivers)
Juju Noda will race in Super Formula
McLaren archived all of their posts (I found reports saying it was up to 10k posts) and started a "whatever it takes campaign" whatever that could mean with today's date being teased (Rebrand? Car launch confirmation? Black livery?)
Toto Wolff extended his Merc contract for 3 more years (including 2026)
Leo Turnini apparently claimed that Ferrari's target for 2024 is to win 5 races
Alan Permane that used to be Alpine's Sporting Director is said to join Alpha Tauri/Racing Bulls
Speaking of Racing Bulls, their new name should get announced with the car launch (and we have most car launch dates confirmed by now)
Mercedes invested more into pit stops equipment over the winter break, because after a few dominant years they fell behind in pit stop stats
Speaking of Merc, they sim driver Anthony Davidson claimed that w15 finally feels like a car after what they had for two years
Formula E is back and I beg everyone who watched the race in Mexico with striking 3 official overtakes to not get discouraged it is nawttt always like this
Speaking of FE, Jake Dennis came to say that RB20 is extremely fast car in the simulator and other teams would need to find over 1s per lap to get close to them
Emily Prazer will step up from the role of LV gp Chief Commercial to the role of Chief Commercial Officer of F1 (Brandon Snow previously was in that role but left last year) and it's seen as the reward for successful campaign she prepared for LV (also she has a lot of experience so props to her)
Gwen Largue (Merc young driver academy boss) said that despite Este being in Alpine and faithful to the team, it's in fact Merc who "continues to manage his career"
Crofty claims Este told him Alpine 2024 car is "a little bit slow" before Christmas, because he has been testing it in the sim since September
From fan's point of view: did you know Lewis is apparently allergic to dogs whicb he admitted to in the interview with puppers?, USA figure skating pair Kaitlin Hawayek and Jean-Luc Baker stepped away from competing from the rest of the season but shared a programme they trained that feature's Charles' AUS 23, there's Fight AIDS Cup in Monaco on 22nd January (aka next monday) with Princess Stephanie's team against Prince Albert II.'s team and considering Charles was there last year I expect him to participate again
#let's not get into the lando nasty rumours that are apparently making rounds on twitter#f1#e#gossip night

Hey Isabella, just wonder when the final chapter of CIWNM will be posted? Take your time if you need, just a bit curious :)
It is in the works, I just really want him to have his happy ending.
but the w15 keeps trying to assassinate him, so I may just have to pretend that DSQ in spa never happened.

Livery Watch 2024
Well I am typing this out way earlier than I expected (thanks McLaren), but I legit had so much fun rating and yelling about all the different team liveries last year that I'm going to do it again this year.
This was going to be my wishlist/prediction post for each team but lo and behold McLaren revealed their 2024 livery today, so I'll be talking about the remaining 9 teams instead, and I'll go a little bit more in-depth in the reblog below about McLaren's 2024 livery.
Red Bull: As much as I desperately yearn for a return to the glossy dark metallic blue livery of the early-mid 2010s, I am 90% sure we're going to see the same livery on their car they've used since 2016, but with the usual annual sponsor logo adjustments
Mercedes: Given how positively their return to an all black livery was perceived, I think we'll see the same thing on the car this year with very subtle silver and Petronas teal accents. (However a piece of my heart would certainly be very happy with chrome silver as an alternative!)
Ferrari: Also asking Ferrari to ditch the matte paint but I know it won't happen. I honestly loved last year's livery, especially with the text logo on the rear wing, but if they go for a more burgundy leaning red like their 1000th race livery then I will have never said anything bad about Ferrari ever actually.
Aston Martin: Zero notes. Though if I see any exposed carbon I will be suing Lawrence Stroll for emotional damages.
Alpine: I am actually a blue and pink livery apologist (the all over pink is still extremely beloved though!!) so hopefully we'll have more of the same this year.
Williams: I've really loved the geometric blue tile livery they're ran for the past couple of years, my only tweak would be to use slightly lighter shades of blue since overall last year's grid did look quite dark last year with all the exposed carbon. I'm also echoing what I said last year in that a total switch up to the white to blue ombre livery the team ran during their RoKit sponsorship years would be really nice to see.
Sauber: No I'm not calling them Stake F1 Team Sauber, I have better things to do with my time. It's just Sauber. Anyway, I'm expecting the livery to be quite a drastic change as part of the rebrand from Alfa Romeo to Stake, and if we're taking hints from their big social media overhaul I think there's going to be a lot of black and neon green (I do think that they're going to be treading a fine line between looking really nice or the W15 ordered off Wish)
Alpha Tauri/Racing Bulls: I honestly loved the navy and white Alpha Tauri liveries, imho they were really stylish and made them look like less of a Red Bull junior team. I don't really know what their rebrand is going to look like, so in the mean time I am going to yearn for a return to the iconic Toro Rosso drinks can livery from 2017 and 2018.
Haas: Unless Moneygram join the exodus of departures from Haas, I think we're going to see some kind of black and white livery with red accents. Personally I'd like there to be more red and a glossy black (matte pain continues to be my behated) but like with Red Bull if it ends up being a nearly identical livery to last year then I won't be surprised.
#Formula 1#Livery Watch#Livery Watch 2024#this one was much more chatty than last year; it's either the cold medicine or my need to yell dfvuhfduvsh#anyway McLaren thoughts coming imminently!

Lewis Hamilton Makes 'Weird' Revelation About Mercedes Car In Azerbaijan
Lewis Hamilton stated he had never driven with a "worse car balance" after a testing 51 laps in Sunday's Azerbaijan Grand Prix. The seven-time F1 world champion qualified in seventh but started from the pit lane in Baku after taking a new power unit, exceeding his allocation for the season, and making setup changes after qualifying. As a result, the Mercedes driver was forced to launch a charge through the field and, after Carlos Sainz and Sergio Perez's late crash, snuck into the top ten and finished ninth. Yet Hamilton was far from satisfied, at one point asking engineer Peter Bonnington, "Are you seeing how I have to drive this thing," and gave more glaring detail about the W15 car in the media pen post-race. "It was the worst balance I probably ever had; one of the worst balances," Hamilton said "Basically I had so much front-end and no rear. I had to yank the steering wheel to break the traction from the front, slide the front through every corner. It was the weirdest way to drive." Hamilton only has seven races left for Mercedes and is currently sixth in the championship standings, eighteen points behind Sainz in fifth. "We had a great car on Friday and made the tiniest changes into Saturday," he added. "One of the components wasn't correctly built. That led us the wrong way then on Saturday. We didn't find out until the end of the day. Being this race was the best race, they said, at least to make the change for the engine because we need one engine, as I lost one earlier, we knew it was going to be a tough day."

Hi sorry if I am a little late, answering you here not to pack the post we were having a convo under😅😂
Pretty much agree on everything you said, not sure if Nugnes was trying to stir some shit with his Shov comment… like, dropping names with “streets are saying” quotes is kinda vague if you don’t add sources, so I wouldn’t really trust that.
And like you said, letting go of certain key figures right now within Mercedes would make little sense, particularly when Lewis and (eventually) Toto are gonna leave/retire in x years, already.
I guess next year/two years are gonna be the test run for what is going to happen after 2025… we’ll see how it’s gonna pan out!
Hello! I have returned to Tumblr only recently and have complete forgot how to use it, so thank you for deciding to reply like this 😉
I absolutely agree with you. I think they should soon start thinking about how they will move in the future, in terms of the key personnel at the moment. But I would be 100% shocked if that future doesn’t include Shov. He’s been in the team for 20 years! I don’t know how you can possibly replace this wealth of experience! Toto, if you’re reading this, I swear I will hunt you down a la Liam Neeson if you get rid of Andrew Shovlin!
And I sincerely wish the W15 will be able to match the Red Bull at least, and maybe win a few Grand Prix this year! Lewis, George and the whole team absolutely need this!

With all respect to a fellow Merc fan, underperforming expectations and stated goals has only been on brand for them the past 2 years, after being the most dominant F1 team of all time. I don’t know how quickly they can course correct, but they’re among the best funded and best equipped of all teams, and they’re an engine manufacturer! McLaren just renewed their engine contract with Merc so how bad are they really? (Also 2nd in the WCC last year)
hello to a fellow merc fan! that post was a little jokey joke, what can i say i was in a silly goofy mood, and i do think they have a lot going for them like you said, p2 in the wcc wasn't easy at all given the competition, since ferrari actually won a race.
but...it's also the partial truth. they have made a bad habit of hyping the car up these past two years esp 2023. thinking they could challenge red bull and max for the championship even. but it ended up in a way that they were confused about how the car behaved after a race weekend??? lewis has talked about how much of a franken-car the w14 was and how difficult it was to get in that sweet spot. this problem is frankly unique to mercedes 😭😭.
the hype tho umm for example toto went from stating such high expectations for 2023 to calling it "a terrible car" in the media. which is bad for morale among the fans, the 1000 merc employees and not to mention the drivers. the higher ups of the team need to maintain expectations for the good of everybody imo.
most importantly in recent years they have had problems not only with the car but the pitstops and strategy which from ferrari (i truly empathise) we can learn are just as important as the actual car.
regarding the w15. they have all the funding, equipment and talent in the world and their engine is still top notch. im rooting for them, hand on heart, but i will wait till the actual race to say anything about their championship prospects next year. because this time they have to not only worry about red bull and ferrari but mclaren (who do have very nice videos but also the strategy, the pitstops and now prob even the car) because they will be ready this time.
sorry for the long reply but i always wanted to explain that merc may not be as bad as i joke but may not *currently* be as good as i hope.
