Funny what you find when focused on your own stuff and not weighed down by other things. Three or four years ago I cut some linos but never got around to printing from them. Found them today and, because I'm tidying my studio I decided the best way to do that was to make test prints of these, on the floor, using a book press and making more mess than I started with 😏, but they turned out ok didn't they? #art #artist #portsmouthartist #portsmouth #portsmouthart #prints #linocut #linoprint #hmsvictory #southseacastle #kingstheatre #portsmouthhistoricdockyard #ricrobinsonart (at Fratton) https://www.instagram.com/p/CpS2yO1tPi9/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Dwellings by When we were cows.
‘Dwellings’
26/2 - 26/3/2016
The drawings exhibited at King’s Ship are based on items and objects that I have collected from the environment around me. I respond to the world by collecting, cataloguing and recording items that I find interesting. I’m an avid collector of the small things that nature appears to discard as a by-product of existence. These things remain with us for only a short while; they are biodegradable mementos of places where creatures have lived and made their homes.
My most recent work is based upon the idea of dwellings. To me these are spaces that are homes to other species and they resonate to me for their naturally chaotic beauty. The nests are part of a series based upon habitats collected from hedgerows and trees on a recent visit to the Isle of Wight and I was immediately fascinated by both their intricacies and stubborn simplicity. Most nests are locally sourced from natural materials and are specific to their location; for example the colour in my nest drawings originates from coloured threads wrapped tightly within a Wren’s nest, which was found in a tree close to a friends family home.
My investigations are undertaken in a wide variety of materials in both traditional drawing techniques and mixed media studies. Tea, coffee, walnut ink, coloured pencil and ink drawing have all been employed to develop creative responses to my world. These traditional means are probably based around the immediacy of my day job as an Art teacher yet also an escape to a world where I can engage with the ebb and flow of time around natural objects. Drawing and observation skills are essential tools when teaching and this has helped me to sharply observe the tiny things within this small time frame that I am blessed to have.
I am delighted and proud that King’s Ship Tattoo is hosting my second solo exhibition.

MY DOG SIGHS & MIDGE COLLABORATE ON NEW MURAL
My Dog Sighs and Midge are two of our favorite UK artists, so excuse us for geeking out over their latest mural that showcases Midge's furry creatures embodied with the emotive faces of My Dog Sighs. The excitement is that this isn't just them teaming up for a mural, but a painting preface to their upcoming joint exhibition, Together In Solitude.
Solitude will open November 14th, at Coastguard Studios, a new gallery space in their hometown of Portsmouth.  But for right now, if you're near Portsmouth, you can see the mural at SouthSea Coffee.
More pics over at HAHA MAG,
