Nan Goldin

Nan Goldin is an american photographer born in 1953 who was known for her very personal candid photos of herself and her peers often at a vunerable moment. One of her most well known works is “the ballad of sexual dependancy” which highlights her experiences in the 70s and 80s. it shows a community overran with HIV, drug addiction and abuse.

Robert Mapplethorpe was a photographer born in 1946. He was known for his black and white photos of several subjects including both still life and portrtraits. Many of his photos were contriversial due to the content of his work which often documented the gay BDSM scene in new york in the 70s and 80s.
