TIME IS ON YOUR SIDE. WHAT WILL YOU DO WITH IT?
Jonas Richard turned an ancient cassette player into a time machine, he never expected to come face to face with himself. Now, he has to decide to change the past or live the same hell over and over again.
Tumblr media
“That’s grandma.” he croaked. “She always cooks on Sundays.”
Jonas Richard stood across from an ageless face with freckles identical to his own. The wide set nose, dark and thick lips covered with a smattering of coarse hair, and round brown eyes made the stranger’s face a perfect replica. His chin dropped to his chest. Seconds ago, he stood in his tiny lab and pushed the rewind button on an ancient cassette player. He, now, stood in a recreation of his own garage, but the noon day light did not stream through the cracked window above his cluttered workstation. His favorite wrench was replaced with an older model with a worn yellow handle. A navy toolbox with rounded corners and sloping lid stood ajar and a cigar poked out from the opening.
The window’s-streaked pane held an indistinguishable garage with two short, round chested men staring at each other. One stood with his hand wrapped around a compact disc player, the other sat rubbing his temple on a low iron stool. The garage door, rolled to the ceiling, revealed the same scene. Another Jonas dressed in wide leg pants and flowing shirt, stood fiddling with the 8-track player slung across his chest by a tattered gray strap. Every door—every exit—was an endless loop of the peculiar encounter.
Each iteration was dressed in garments of eras past. The appliances of their garage were packed with artifacts rendered obsolete by modernity.
“That’s you.” And that’s you. And that’s you.” said Absolut. “You always end up right here and you never go back. You can’t move past this moment.”
“How?” Jonas asked.
“The how,” Absolut smiled. “Is never important. The ‘why’ should concern you more. I did the same work. Took the same steps. Visited the same days—scenes—over and over and over; and without fail, I end up...you end up here.”
“I just wanted to see her—my grandma, I mean.” Jonas breathed.
“I know.”
Absolut crossed to the screen door behind Jonas. He carefully peeled it open and nodded inside. Jonas tipped over to him.
“She’s in there.” Absolut said wistfully. “Like always, she’s throwing down.”
Jonas looked at the parallel scenario unfolding beyond the threshold of the garage door. He pointed at that iteration of himself.
“What about them?” Jonas saw the iteration pointing back at him.
“Them?” Absolut leaned his head against the door. “They are us. In every decade, in every lifetime, I end up here; and I always make the same choice—ask the same questions—work the same problems until...”
“Until what?” Jonas pressed.
“Until I sit on that stool and wait for the next stupid, nostalgic Jonas to blink into my garage. I sit here and wait to talk him through what’s next. He is you. You are me. And I...am.”
“How lang have I been here?” Jonas asked.
“A couple minutes. A few days. A lifetime. It's hard to say. My device is in here somewhere. My clothes are remarkably plain. Maybe I’m the original.” Absolut popped his head up. “Does that answer your question?”
“No.” Jonas said. “Why not go in?”
Absolut’s forlorn gaze was transfixed upon the silver haired woman shuffling around her sunlit kitchen as steam curled into the golden light from large bespeckled pots. A white apron tied around the waist of her chiffon dress and a ribbon of shining pearls around her neck, she hummed. Her warm tune resounded through the thin wooden walls and pulled on Jonas’ heart.

Three Objects
Sketching has been good at breaking up the misery of staring at a manuscript and being stuck. At least with the drawing I'm roadblocked by my lack of skill rather than my lack of ideas. There are things from an adventure I am currently writing for Colin Le Sueur’s We Deal In Lead. It began as a homage to Wisit Sasanatieng’s tomyamgong western Fa Thalai Chon / Tears Of The Black Tiger.
+++
Tumblr media
WIDOW GON'S PALANQUIN
A broad teak throne: canopied, curtained, cushioned. Stinks of tobacco.
Its bearers: the captive brothers Khol. Every night Lady Sao Rai visits their garage, selects a brother, and fucks him in her grandmother's palanquin.
The Khols are too afraid to refuse her.
+
The Widow is matriarch of House Gon. It will be her fiftieth birthday, soon. An elaborate fete is planned.
Captives are found across the sea, created through poverty, criminal sentences, or legal abduction. By Admiralty law, a captive must go free once they earn their owner their original price, a hundred times over.
In practice, few owners obey.
+++
It should be obvious what captives are. I ding-donged with myself about the nomenclature, here.
A simple reason for avoiding the word "slave" is because most people think "transatlantic slave trade" as soon as you say it. If nothing else I want to avoid the association because it is inaccurate.
On the other hand: annoying to have to decenter Southeast Asia in this way! The equivalent of having to say "chai tea" when I should be able to say "tea", because that is what the word means to me!
(I strain against this specific problem often.)
Finally I decided "captive" was good, after all. This kind of legalistic euphemism ("Oh, they aren't slaves, they are indentured servants.") is exactly in character for rich assholes bending language to assuage their consciences.

HOUSEHOLD PSYCHOPHONE
Listening room: settees; shelf of wax-cylinder records; a podium on which sits a psychophone.
Pop a cylinder into the psychophone, point its antenna at a servant wearing the receiving brooch, listen to them sing in an alto entirely not their own.
+
Psychophones have been ruinous to local performers. Once-celebrated local singers have been reduced to glorified loudspeakers: vessels for the voices of famous chanteuses from across the Ocean.
This home entertainment system requires at least two to operate:
One servant (or more commonly a servitor) to turn the crank;
One servant to serve as a receiver-singer.
A receiver-singer's health eventually suffers. When you have somebody else's voice (and soul) forced into you over and over, and you begin to lose your own …
+++
This one was troublesome. Felt like production design. Appliance design.
Had several goals:
The core mechanism has to look like it makes sense, to its own internal logic. No greebling; every bit needs to look like it has a purpose.
Lots of ornamentation. This is a luxury device belonging to aristocrats from a rococo Indochinese-inspired society. It needs to be a jewelbox.
Genteel normalisation of vicious magic. The needle made of bone; the antenna that is basically a massive needle pointed at your head---but disguised as a pretty bird.
The receiver-brooch is something I discovered while sketching. Seems gameable? Also, in the spirit of point 3: the brooch has a pin you stick in your forehead.

Tumblr media
GHOST WATER
Auw Yin Yan, the Sea of Sorrows---of Sighs.
Imagine bodies in a mass grave the size of a country. Imagine them luminescent, in motion. Pulled by the moon, waved by the wind, clawing at the quay.
+
Always forms into human shapes: when poured into a bowl, ghost water sits as a balled fist.
Like saltwater in most respects. The Sea teems with marine life, though these are cunning and cruel in human ways. Humans cannot swim ghost water. Do not fall in.
Ghosts wear the outfits and injuries they had at death. Rarely, one will crawl onto land, eyes open, a hungry ghast.
+++
Yeah, so: the wider campaign setting for this adventure is defined by the Sea of Sorrows. It has whales and islands and pirates. It is filled with ghosts instead of water.
I saw the Sea in my mind as a vast Escher-esque tangle of interlocking ghost-bodies.
A wave would be bodies flinging themselves on a beach; their arms and hands dragging on the sand as they pull back into the surf.
I drew a way simpler visual. And the ghost's hair is cheating: it already looks like water.
Still: very pleased with this sketch. Gentle, sort of sweet, quietly creepy. Also it is a modest bailing bucket, which contrasts with the material excess of the palanquin and psychophone.

In Miyagi, Iwaizumi tours a spotless, newly-renovated house with little interest—until he steps into the worn, unfinished garage. In the raw imperfection of the space, he finds a spark of connection, a glimmer of purpose. This decision marks the beginning of something new as he commits to a place where he can start to rebuild, finding potential in what others would overlook.
-
Chapter 4 - Foundations
The real estate agent’s heels clicked against the hardwood floor as she led Iwaizumi through the front door, her voice smooth and rehearsed as she gestured to the entryway. “This one is a recent listing—three bedrooms, two baths, with an open floor plan and plenty of natural light,” she said, flipping a switch to illuminate the spotless living room. “It’s been recently renovated, so it’s move-in ready.”
Iwaizumi barely looked up, nodding automatically as he stepped inside. The space was modern, airy, meticulously staged with sleek furniture and pops of tasteful decor. A large window overlooked a landscaped backyard, the view pristine and carefully designed. He could see why people would be drawn to a place like this—everything in its place, no rough edges, no surprises. The kind of house someone could settle into and build a future.
But that wasn’t what he was looking for.
“Nice place,” he muttered, more to fill the silence than anything else. The words felt hollow, echoing awkwardly in the sterile air.
The agent smiled, either oblivious to his lack of enthusiasm or too polite to mention it. She moved on to the living area, gesturing broadly at the space. “There’s plenty of room here for entertaining,” she said, her tone bright. “A fireplace, newly installed, perfect for cozy nights in.”
Iwaizumi’s gaze drifted over the fireplace—sleek, modern, and completely untouched. He tried to imagine himself sitting here, staring into the flames, letting the quiet settle around him. But the image wouldn’t come. It felt like trying on someone else’s clothes, a life that didn’t belong to him.
He let the agent’s words blur into the background, her voice little more than background noise as she pointed out the carefully chosen features. Everything about this house was pristine, polished, designed to appeal to an idea of comfort and stability that felt as foreign to him as the quiet streets of Miyagi had once been.
She led him into the kitchen next, a space that gleamed with stainless steel appliances and glossy countertops. “This is a chef’s dream,” she said, motioning to the double oven, the expansive island, the custom cabinets. “High-end finishes, perfect for someone who loves to cook.”
Iwaizumi gave a noncommittal grunt, his gaze skimming over the surfaces. He’d never had much use for a kitchen, not really. In Tokyo, his meals had been quick, utilitarian—something to fuel his body before the next race, the next training session. He hadn’t bothered with cooking or elaborate meals. His life had been defined by movement, by purpose. Kitchens, appliances, countertops… they were part of a world he’d never really had time for.
He stepped back, letting the agent continue her pitch as she moved into the hallway. “The master bedroom is just down here,” she said, gesturing for him to follow. “It’s spacious, plenty of closet space, and there’s a beautiful en-suite bathroom.”
He trailed after her, glancing around the master bedroom without much interest. The bed was large and inviting, draped in plush blankets and pillows arranged just so. The walls were painted a soft, neutral color, the furniture modern but comfortable. The en-suite bathroom boasted a large soaking tub and a glass shower, everything gleaming and new.
But none of it mattered. The whole house felt like a display, a perfect image of what a life could be, but one that felt entirely out of reach. He’d come here looking for something, but standing in this spotless room, he couldn’t feel a connection to any of it.
The agent led him through the other bedrooms, each one as pristine and perfectly staged as the last. An office space, a guest room—he barely glanced inside. She pointed out the backyard through a set of sliding glass doors, talking about the privacy, the landscaping, the potential for outdoor gatherings. But he could already feel his attention slipping, his gaze drifting back toward the hallway, searching for… he wasn’t even sure what.
After a while, he realized he hadn’t been listening at all, his mind drifting through thoughts of old racetracks, the sound of engines, the scent of oil and gasoline. The idea of being here, in this perfect house, felt almost claustrophobic.
The agent paused, glancing at him with a hint of hesitation, as if she could sense his lack of interest but wasn’t sure how to address it. “There’s… one more thing to show you,” she said finally, a note of uncertainty in her voice. She gestured toward a door near the kitchen, off to the side. “It’s not a major feature, but… there’s a garage. It could be useful for storage, or… projects, if you’re into that sort of thing.”
Iwaizumi’s attention sharpened. A garage. That was the first thing she’d said that felt remotely relevant.
He followed her to the door, a faint flicker of curiosity stirring as she turned the handle and stepped back to let him inside. The space was dark and cold, the faint smell of oil and dust hanging in the air. The garage was bigger than he’d expected—high ceilings, unfinished walls, and a cracked concrete floor that bore the stains of years of use. A single bulb hung from the ceiling, casting a weak yellow light over the space, illuminating a few old tools left abandoned on a shelf in the corner.
It was rough. Worn. Unpolished in a way that none of the other rooms had been.
For the first time that day, Iwaizumi felt… something. He stepped inside, letting his fingers graze the rough concrete wall, taking in the empty space, the echoes of lives that had passed through here. This wasn’t like the rest of the house. This was a place where things had happened—where things could still happen. It wasn’t pristine, but it was real.
“You could turn this into a workshop,” the agent said, her voice more tentative now, as though she wasn’t sure why he was showing such interest in this dingy corner of the property. “With a bit of work, of course. Maybe fix up the walls, install some better lighting…”
But he barely heard her. His mind was already drifting, imagining what this space could become. He could almost see it—the shelves lined with tools, an engine hoisted up on a rig, the floor littered with parts and bolts and the smell of grease. He hadn’t been in a garage like this since high school, since those long, hot afternoons spent with Oikawa, tinkering with a beat-up old car that had barely run.
He could feel the ghost of that memory now—the weight of a wrench in his hand, the heat of the sun filtering through the open garage door, Oikawa’s laugh ringing out as they argued over parts and placement. Back then, they’d been unstoppable, two kids who thought they could fix anything, build anything, if they just worked hard enough.
“Like I said, it’s not much,” the agent was saying, her voice almost apologetic. “But it’s a decent space if you’re looking for… I don’t know, a hobby or something.”
A hobby. The word felt hollow, but he let it slide. This wasn’t about a hobby. It was about having something real, something he could hold onto. He hadn’t come back to Miyagi just to walk through perfect houses and picture-perfect lives. He’d come here because Tokyo had lost its meaning, because he was drifting, because he needed something to keep him grounded.
This garage… it wasn’t much. But it was a start.
“I’ll take it,” he said abruptly, cutting off whatever the agent had been about to say.
She blinked, visibly startled. “Oh! Are you sure? You haven’t seen the whole backyard, and there’s a lovely patio—”
“No,” he said, more firmly this time. “This one’s fine. Just… send me the paperwork.”
The agent hesitated, her eyes flicking from him to the dingy walls, as though she couldn’t quite understand what he saw here. But she recovered quickly, nodding. “Of course! I’ll have everything ready by tomorrow.”
She made a few notes on her clipboard, still glancing around as if hoping he’d change his mind. But Iwaizumi didn’t waver. This wasn’t about the house, or the view, or the perfect kitchen. It was about this space, about the possibility that lay within it. It was about having something to build, something to fix, something he could throw himself into.
As he left the property, he didn’t look back at the pristine rooms or the carefully manicured lawn. All he could think about was that garage and everything it could become. He wasn’t sure what he was rebuilding, or even who he was doing it for. But for the first time in a long time, he felt like he had something to look forward to.
-
Iwaizumi stood in the middle of the living room, hands on his hips as he surveyed the open boxes around him. A week had passed since he’d signed the papers and moved into the house, and it still didn’t feel real. Most of his stuff was still packed, scattered across the floor in a haphazard maze of cardboard and bubble wrap. The walls were bare, the rooms echoing with emptiness, and he hadn’t bothered to bring much in the way of furniture from Tokyo.
His phone buzzed on the counter, cutting through the silence. He picked it up and saw Bokuto’s name flashing on the screen.
He let out a sigh before answering. “Yo.”
“Iwa-chan!” Bokuto’s voice was bright, cheerful, as if he were shouting across a crowded room instead of speaking into a phone. “How’s Miyagi treating you? Living the good life yet?”
Iwaizumi snorted, glancing around at the boxes stacked against the walls. “Yeah, if the good life means unpacking boxes and trying to figure out where everything’s supposed to go. It’s… quiet here.”
“Quiet’s good! I bet you’ve got so much space now, though. You were always in those tiny apartments in Tokyo.”
“Yeah, it’s… it’s a family house, I guess. A lot bigger than I need.”
As he said it, Iwaizumi felt a strange discomfort settle in his chest. A family house. The words felt foreign in his mouth. This place had three bedrooms, an open living room, a kitchen that could actually fit more than one person. It was meant for more than just him. The thought made his throat tighten, a vague unease spreading through him.
“Oh! That’s great!” Bokuto laughed. “So when are you gonna start filling it up? Miyagi’s got some nice locals, right?”
Iwaizumi rolled his eyes. “Yeah, Bokuto. I’m gonna go out and start a family just because I have some extra rooms.”
“Hey, don’t knock it! You never know what could happen,” Bokuto teased, his voice cheerful. “Kuroo’s always saying you need to stop being such a grump and let yourself have a little fun.”
“Kuroo can mind his own business,” Iwaizumi muttered, but there was no heat in his voice. He moved to the nearest box and pulled out a stack of dishes, setting them on the counter with a dull clink. Plates. Bowls. Things he never thought twice about in Tokyo, where most of his meals had been taken on the go. Here, though, there was a full dining area, a large table that practically demanded to be filled.
He paused, a strange thought flickering through his mind. Oikawa always wanted a space like this , he realized, unbidden. When they were kids, Oikawa had talked about big kitchens and dining tables, throwing around ideas of how he’d host dinner parties, invite friends over, have “real” meals. Iwaizumi had always laughed it off back then, telling him he was ridiculous. Now, standing here, with a dining room too big for one person, the memory stung in a way he hadn’t expected.
“Iwaizumi?” Bokuto’s voice broke through his thoughts. “You still there?”
“Yeah. Just… thinking.”
“What about? The quiet getting to you already?”
He huffed out a bitter laugh, shifting the stack of plates from one side of the counter to the other, trying to shake the odd feeling in his chest. “Just realizing… this place isn’t really for me. It’s got all this space, like it’s expecting me to have… I don’t know. People. A family, maybe.”
“Hey, maybe you just need time to settle in,” Bokuto offered, sounding surprisingly thoughtful. “I mean, you didn’t come back to Miyagi to just sit around, right?”
Iwaizumi’s grip tightened on the plate he was holding. Sit around. He hadn’t really thought about what he was here to do—he’d just known he needed to leave Tokyo, needed to come somewhere quieter, somewhere that didn’t feel like a daily reminder of everything he’d lost. He’d told himself he was here to find peace, to rebuild. But now, he wasn’t sure what he was building.
“Yeah,” he muttered, not sure if he believed it. “Something like that.”
He could hear Bokuto sigh on the other end, like he wanted to say more but wasn’t sure how to phrase it. “Hey… you’re doing okay, right?”
Iwaizumi’s gaze drifted to the boxes stacked along the walls, filled with things he’d never even used in Tokyo. “Yeah, I’m fine. Just… still unpacking.”
Bokuto’s voice turned teasing again, trying to lighten the mood. “Hey, you know what would be fun? Invite Oikawa over! You guys could catch up. I bet he’d love to see the place.”
At the mention of Oikawa, Iwaizumi’s stomach twisted. He let out a harsh, bitter laugh, more at himself than anything else. “Yeah. Sure. Like that’s what this place needs—Oikawa here, telling me where to put the furniture.”
But the words tasted strange on his tongue. Because as he looked around, he realized he’d been setting things up with Oikawa in mind. Without meaning to, he’d arranged the kitchen to look like those “dream setups” Oikawa used to talk about. He’d put extra chairs around the dining table, as if expecting someone to join him. Even the layout of the living room had a familiar feel, like it was made for company.
He gripped the edge of the counter, a surge of frustration bubbling up inside him. What am I doing? he thought, his jaw clenched. I didn’t come here to play house.
But the truth gnawed at him, raw and unyielding. Deep down, he knew he wasn’t just building this place for himself. Part of him was setting it up like… like he was making space for something, or someone . And that thought made him angrier than he’d care to admit.
“Anyway,” he muttered, trying to shake off the discomfort. “I’ll get back to unpacking. I’m sure I’ll feel more settled once I stop tripping over boxes.”
“Alright, alright,” Bokuto said, not pressing any further. “But remember, man—let yourself relax a little. You don’t have to turn this place into something right away. Just let it… happen, you know?”
Iwaizumi forced a laugh. “Yeah. Sure.”
They ended the call, and he shoved his phone back into his pocket, letting out a long, heavy sigh. He’d thought coming here would be simple. Just him, a house, some space to work with. But now, standing alone in the too-large kitchen, with dishes stacked up on a table meant for more than one, he felt like he was building something he didn’t understand.
In a fit of frustration, he grabbed one of the chairs from the dining room and dragged it into the garage, shoving it into the corner with more force than necessary. He didn’t need it there—he didn’t need anything in this house to remind him of things that weren’t his anymore.
But as he stood there, staring at the empty space he’d tried to make his own, he felt the anger simmer down, replaced by something closer to resignation. Maybe he couldn’t build a life here that was only for him. Maybe part of him would always carry the ghost of what could have been—of the life he thought he was supposed to have, with someone he couldn’t forget.
He ran a hand over his face, exhaling slowly. He’d come to Miyagi to escape his regrets, but they’d followed him anyway, settling into every corner of this too-big house.
With a final glance around the empty room, he turned and headed back inside, the echoes of his own footsteps the only sound in the quiet, empty house.

Places to Visit: Verdera: A One Horse Town.
Tumblr media
Aerial view of downtown Verdera, Lozanía, Madrugada.
Verdera is a small one horse town located in the province of Lozanía in the rural region of Madrugada. There isn’t all that much to do up there but it was still worth getting a paycheck for the day so we went there and I am writing this article anyway. Verdera is from “verde,” meaning green. A well-suited name for a town nestled in a valley surrounded by lush green hills.
Main Attractions
Town square and Church In the middle of this tiny dot on the map of a town stands the Church of Verdera. We searched everywhere for the actual name of the Church, but even the locals simply refer to it as “la Iglesia de Verdera.” Like many small towns around the world, the town square is the main hub where many public events, live music performances, etc, take place.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
La Iglesia de Verdera and town square.
Tumblr media
Public performance schedule: Friday: Tres and Trumpet. Saturday: Mambo Night. Sunday: Church Choir.
You will often see Yarans set up pop up “garage sale” types of shops in the town square to try and sell items of very little value to tourists. But before you purchase someone’s broken kitchen appliance or a used toothbrush, why not donate a couple of pesos to these hard working men and women of Yara instead.

And if random basura is not your thing, there is also a farmer’s market nearby where you can buy fresh produce and various meats.

Visiting the Church
You can, but remember to keep your visit brief and be respectful of parishioners. Additionally, the church is often patrolled by FND (Fuerzas Nacionales de Defensa) soldiers who may or may not approve of your presence there depending on your conduct. For more information on the FND, consult the “Things to Know Before Visiting Yara” section or ask a VisitYaraToday agent.

Where to Stay
Tumblr media
We think this might be a bed and breakfast but you should think of Verdera as more of a day trip location.
Where to Eat
The best and probably only place to eat in Verdera is a cantina which offers your usual fast food items (pizza, hamburguesa, etc) but it also features an outdoor terrace where meats are grilled right in front of you and served with the best local cerveza.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Como dicen los estadounidenses: Awwhhh yiiehhh
Worth mentioning
There’s a Radio Verdad station in the town. You can’t really visit it but it is worth mentioning since it is the only officially recognized radio station of Yara.
Tumblr media
Radio Libertad. I mean Radio Verdad!
The town is very rural
Cows and chickens wandering around, tractors on the main road, people slaughtering pigs, all part of everyday life in Verdera and what makes its charm.
Tumblr media
Oh, there's the one horse.

Areas to Avoid
Campo de Béisbol
There is a baseball field. Do not go to the baseball field. It is.. closed for.. maintenance.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Campo de Béisbol closed for.. repairs. Indefinitely.
We hope that you enjoyed this virtual tour of Verdera and as always, for more information on activities, places, events, and all things Yara, come back and visit this page often and follow us on Tumblr!
Tumblr media
Editor's Note:
Are we not going to talk about public executions that are regularly held in that town square? It’s no secret. They are filmed and broadcasted live on Yara’s public tv network. These events are usually announced a day or two in advance over the public service announcement system, so if you are squeamish, come back when it’s all over.

Making Your Move: A Stress-Free Guide to House Removals
Tumblr media
Moving house ranks among life's most stressful experiences, but it mustn't be a nightmare. Whether you're relocating across town or the country, the right approach to house removals in Dublin can transform this daunting task into a manageable adventure.
Planning: Your Secret Weapon
The difference between a chaotic move and a smooth transition often comes down to planning. Start organizing your house removal at least eight weeks before your moving date. This buffer gives you ample time to sort through belongings, book reliable movers, and handle the countless details that pop up during the process.
Declutter Before You Pack
Here's a golden rule of moving: the less you pack, the less you pay. Before boxing up your life, take a ruthless approach to decluttering. Is that exercise bike gathering dust? The clothes you last wore in years? Now's the perfect time to sell, donate, or dispose of items that no longer serve you. Not only will this reduce your moving costs, but you'll start fresh in your new home without unnecessary baggage.
Professional Movers vs. DIY: Making the Right Choice
While the DIY approach might seem cost-effective, professional house removal services often prove worth it. Here's why:
Insurance coverage for your belongings
Proper equipment for heavy lifting
Experienced handling of fragile items
Time and energy saved
Reduced risk of injury
However, the DIY route might make sense if you're working with a tight budget or moving to a small apartment. Just be sure to factor in vehicle rental costs, packing materials, and the value of your time.
Packing Like a Pro
The key to successful packing lies in organization. Start with rooms you use less frequently, like the guest bedroom or garage. Label boxes clearly on multiple sides, and create a simple inventory system. Color-coding boxes by room or using a numbering system can make unpacking significantly more accessible.
Pro tip: Pack a special "First Night" box with essentials you'll need immediately in your new home:
Basic toiletries
Change of clothes
Phone chargers
Basic tools
Kettle and mugs
Snacks and water
Bedding
Timing Is Everything
Schedule your move for mid-week and mid-month, when removal companies typically charge lower rates. Avoid moving during peak seasons (summer months and bank holidays) when prices surge and availability becomes limited.
The Day Before
Success on a moving day starts with preparation the day before. Ensure all boxes are sealed and labeled disconnect appliances, and clear pathways for movers. Keep important documents, valuables, and essential items separate from the main move.
Moving Day Success
Stay organized but flexible on a moving day. Things rarely go exactly as planned, but you can handle any surprises with proper preparation. Keep significant contact numbers handy, including:
Removal company
Real estate agents
Utility companies
The new property's previous owners
After the Move: Making Your New House a Home
The first few weeks after your house removal are crucial for establishing new routines and creating a sense of belonging. Explore your new neighborhood, introduce yourself to neighbors, and discover local amenities. Once you're settled, consider hosting a small housewarming gathering—it's a perfect way to celebrate your successful move and begin building connections in your new community.
Conclusion: Settling In
Once you've arrived at your new home, resist the urge to unpack everything immediately. Focus on essential rooms first—the bedroom, bathroom, and kitchen. Take time to clean as you unpack, and consider the optimal furniture arrangement before settling on final positions.
Remember, a successful house removal isn't about perfection; it's about making the transition as smooth as possible. With careful planning, the proper support, and a positive attitude, you can turn the challenge of moving into an opportunity for a fresh start.
Take the first step today by creating your moving timeline, and watch as your house removals in Dublin transforms from a daunting task into an achievable goal.

Say goodbye to strong color schemes, cluttered storage, cramped countertops, and tired faces in the kitchen. Welcome to the fresh kitchen styles of 2024. A cozy bed with comfortable linens pulls us to a restful slumber, much as a well-designed, organized, and roomy kitchen fosters a positive mood and culinary experience. The effect of ambiance on our mental state is evident. Trending ideas develop as issue solvers, infusing elegance and luxury into your home.
1. Pantry Units: An Innovative Kitchen Design Trend!
No more messy corners! A pantry unit is one of the most frequently mentioned Modular kitchen design essentials. It's an intelligent storage solution (similar to a storeroom!) for all of your culinary products and accessories. Whether it's a pull-out unit, a walk-in area, or a pantry with a swing larder, a variety of streamlined designs and space-saving methods are available, all tailored to your specific kitchen requirements. Check out this photograph of a swing larder pantry cabinet, which brings objects within easy reach from hard-to-reach areas.
2. 2024 Kitchen Trends: Prepare To Love Islands
This year's home trends revolve around convenience, modernity, and innovation. In 2024 kitchen trends, islands are getting more multifunctional and functional. They have evolved beyond simple worktops to include built-in storage, seating, and integrated sink units, making them the centerpiece of modern culinary paradises. Whether you need extra space or a versatile breakfast nook, islands have become vital. Take a look at this photo, which shows an island with concealed storage and two high chairs, ideal for family gatherings.
3. Kitchen Appliance Trends: Appliance Garage
Say goodbye to congested countertops with microwaves and mixers! The appliance garage idea transforms kitchens by providing specialized storage spaces for both small and large devices, resulting in a clean and orderly countertop. An appliance garage or a tall container can also be customized to accommodate many gadgets while matching your decor. Here's a look at a stunning neutral-themed space embellished with marble, complete with an appliance garage that includes a built-in place for microwaves or ovens, as well as cabinets and drawers for other smaller devices.
4. Current Trends in Kitchen Cabinets for Water Purifiers
The most recent kitchen trends in 2024 include a novel solution: an under-sink device dedicated to water purification. Say goodbye to the cluttered walls and tangled cords! Place your water purifier in an under-sink cabinet, with one tap for filtered drinking water and another for ordinary use. It is modern, convenient, and secure. Take a look at this kitchen space, which features an under-sink cabinet housing a water filter, keeping the kitchen clean and beautiful.
5. Trendy Modern Kitchen Wall Colors: Choose Neutral Tones
Out with strong colors and in with soft, neutral tones! In 2024, the emphasis is on creating calm and inviting kitchen environments filled with soothing colors. Choosing soothing colours can make a huge impact when dealing with the strains of everyday life. Choose beige, white, cream, or gray tones for your walls. These colors add simplicity and openness to your area. Take a look at this kitchen, which is decorated in a neutral color palette of white and light pastels, with handleless cabinets, crystal drop pendant lights, and a lovely island table with additional storage and seats.
6. Kitchen Tiles Latest Trends: Pop-Up Colors for the WOW Factor!
While the walls keep a minimalist aesthetic, the tiles can offer the pop of color you seek! The kitchen decor trends of 2024 emphasize the value of vivid tiles, particularly in the backsplash, for infusing energy and individuality into your area. Tiles are available in a variety of designs, including the Moroccan style, and can be used as the focal point or accent wall in a single-toned environment. Take a look at this space, which features a copper palette with vibrant yellow tiles in the backsplash, along with a pure white countertop and a dab of gold in the kitchen faucet.
7. Finally, Introducing Two Sinks in 2024 Kitchen Trends
Two sinks? Yes, this is a trend! Kitchens become more structured and useful as storage options and utility sinks expand. While having two entire kitchens may not be possible for everyone, having two separate sinks is an alternative. One sink in the utility room handles messy cleaning and dirty utensils, while the other in the kitchen is used for basic washing and cooking. This separation creates a cleaner kitchen environment, provides more space, and offers a contemporary approach to culinary experiences.

Super Bowl Party You Really Can Afford
New Post has been published on https://www.georgiagassavings.com/blog/super-bowl-party-you-really-can-afford/
Super Bowl Party You Really Can Afford
Save Money on Efficient Super Bowl Party
Find out how you can throw a super bowl party and still save money on your Georgia gas bills. Check out these energy saving tips for great snacks!
This year’s Super Bowl tickets are the most expensive in history. The average price was nearly $10,000 for tickets available last week. That’s at least four times more than the average household spends on their GA energy bill for a full year. Most of us don’t have that kind of money to throw around. So, let’s see how you can save money and throw a Super Bowl party you really can afford.
Energy Saving Recipes for Super Bowl Sunday
I am about to set you up with an entire menu for your Super Bowl party. Even better, these recipes are energy efficient to help you save money on your bill from Georgia gas companies!
Start your party off with some low-energy classics: salsa and guacamole. Keep things simple with a salsa recipe that only needs a minute or two in the food processer. Easily make the recipe your own by adding some additional spices or hot peppers. On the other hand, for your guacamole, you’ll only need a little elbow grease! Avocados are so easy to mash, you can whip up a batch of authentic deliciousness without any natural gas or electric appliances.
Next, for a main dish, turn things over to a slow cooker. More specifically, a slow cooker uses about 200 watts per hour. Compare that to a stove top which burns through over 1,000 watts per hour. An easy pulled pork recipe is sure to be an energy saving touchdown with your guests.
A great compliment to your pulled pork is a bowlful of creamy coleslaw. This is another low-to-no energy consumer. All you need is a little fridge space to chill your final product before serving.
Finally, a bit of dessert. Head into the endzone with some no-bake cookies that only need about 10-15 minutes of stove top use with a big return of five dozen cookies. Compare that to a baked cookie recipe that needs about 50 minutes of oven time plus preheating.
Other Energy Savings Tips for an Affordable Party
When you host a party, food is a big part of the equation. But that’s not all there is to consider! Here are a few more energy saving tips for the big game.
With GA weekend temperatures in the mid-60s, turn off your heat and let warmth from guests keep your house warm.
Keep bedroom, bathroom, and other doors closed to keep that heat in the main areas of your house.
Fill a couple coolers with ice for drinks to keep people from constantly opening the fridge.
Encourage guests to mingle in one or two rooms and leave lights off in the rest of the house.
Bonus safety tip! If you can’t have football without grilling, stay dry in potentially rainy conditions. Consider a pop-up grilling gazebo. Short of the gazebo, set up your grill in the opening of your garage door under the the eaves of your roof.
Now you’re ready for an energy saving Super Bowl party! But don’t forget one of the best ways to cut energy costs is with a natural gas plan that has a cheap rate. Shop the best rates today at https://www.georgiagassavings.com.

Should You Buy a Home Warranty?
Tumblr media
We’re buying a house. Should we buy a home warranty?” Seems like a relatively tame question, right? But post it on Facebook or Nextdoor and watch the impassioned responses roll in. You might as well ask, “What political party should I belong to.
Who knew people were so fervent about home warranties! Everyone has their own experience; expect to hear a few people call them “a scam” or at the very least a waste of money. Others will regale you with their tale of how having a warranty saved them from a freezing winter because they couldn’t afford to fix their furnace without it.
In the end, the decision is personal and largely based on how comfortable you are coming out of pocket if one of the more expensive items in your home, like the air conditioning unit or hot water heater, should malfunction and need to be replaced. We’re breaking down three important particulars so you can make an educated decision.
Know the cost
“A basic home warranty costs about $350 to $500 a year or more,” said Money Talks News. “A warranty typically covers kitchen appliances, plumbing, water heater, heating and electrical system components, sump pump, whirlpool tub, and ceiling and exhaust fans, according to Angie’s List. “‘Enhanced’ plans, purchased for another $100 to $300, provide added coverage for such things as a washer and dryer, air conditioning system, refrigerator and garage door opener. Optional coverage can be added, including for pools and septic systems.”
You can typically break down the annual cost into monthly payments if that’s more comfortable for you, but the cost of the warranty itself isn't the only thing you’re responsible for paying. Service calls will typically also cost you; put in a work order for a broken microwave or a tub that won’t drain and you’ll be responsible for paying for the privilege of having a professional come check it out, and—hopefully—fix it.
“Home warranty deductible, or service call fees, is an important concept to master if you want to understand how to find the cheapest home warranty plans for your needs,” said Review Home Warranties. With most home warranties, a deductible or service call fee will be required, “with an industry average of approximately $75 per visit. Some companies, like American Home Shield or TotalProtect Home Warranty, let their customers choose the amount of a deductible, which depends on the amount of premium. The higher the premium, the lower the deductible.”
Consider your peace of mind
Many homeowners opt for a home warranty for major “just-in-case” scenarios. Just in case the air conditioning unit crashes and burns. Just in case the hot water heater dies. Just in case there’s some other expensive repair that pops up, without the ability to comfortably pay for it. With the cost of some of these items running into the thousands—the average for a new air conditioning unit and installation, per HomeAdvisor, is $5,413!—the peace of mind factor is huge.
“For a homeowner who doesn't have an emergency fund or who wants to protect their emergency fund, a home warranty can act as a buffer,” said Investopedia. “Home warranties also make sense for people who aren't handy or who don't want to worry about tracking down a contractor when they have a problem. Warranties can also make sense for people with expensive taste in appliances.”
But…understand that not everything is covered
There’s always a chance that the item you need repaired is not covered under your warranty for one reason or another. “Having a home warranty doesn't mean the homeowner will never have to spend a penny on home repairs,” said Investopedia. “Some problems won't be covered by the warranty, whether because the homeowner didn't purchase coverage for that item or because the warranty company doesn't offer coverage for that item. Also, home warranties usually don't cover components that haven't been properly maintained. Furthermore, if the warranty company denies a claim, the homeowner will still have to pay the service fee and will also be responsible for repair costs.”
In our case, limitations spelled out in our home warranty contract regarding the replacement of outdated parts and refrigerant costs for our broken air conditioning unit meant we had to come out of pocket for $1,500. The lesson here: Read the fine print so you’re prepared.

5 Tips for Moving Out of Your House in the Rain with Professional Removals
Tumblr media
How to move out of your house when it’s raining? Well, hiring adept removals in Sydney can be of help. No one likes to move when raining, but sometimes the timing is just like that. You may need a new job, and you get one with a joining date during the monsoon. Also, it’s like your rental agreement expires in the monsoon. And these leave you no choice but to move out in the rain (unless you’ve got a second place to stay for the month).
So, how can you move out in the monsoon like a pro? Let’s learn that in the below blog post.
How can you move out during monsoon with professional movers?
Moving in the rain isn’t fun and is not recommended by movers as well. But well, you can’t control the weather as per emergencies. Even if you want to avoid the rain, unexpected rains can surprise you in the middle of the move. But you can still ace your monsoon move with the following tips,
1. Wrap all your items in plastic.
Here’s how,
If you have art pieces or antiques, wrap them in plastic covers.
Toss all your clothes and important documents in plastic trash bags.
If you’re moving valuables during the monsoon, invest in shrink wrap.
Cover all your furniture pieces in plastic comforters.
2. Never forget to pack rain essentials.
Moving in the rain means, you need to be extra careful. Making your items rainproof alone can’t do anything. You need to protect yourself when loading/unloading the items to/from the moving truck. Keeping the below rain essentials handy will be of help,
Flip-flop shoes
Rain boots
Baseball caps/hats
Rain slickers
Raincoats
Umbrellas, etc.
3. Reach your new place before the movers.
Here’s why,
If you reach the house before your movers, you can lay down a welcoming mat in front of the door. It’ll keep your floor safe from outside dirt and muddy stains. But ensure not to use your expensive wool mats to wipe your dirty feet on them.
Moving in the monsoon can be a little chilly. Hence, heating the new place will be a great idea. If you’ve already moved some of your appliances before ‘D-day,’ or have brought some in your car, turn that ON.
Open the windows to level down the humidity of the home and remove the moisture from the air. It’ll make the place more comfortable.
Make some towels handy and hand them out to movers when working. They may use this to wipe their hands to handle your items with the utmost care.
If you’ve got extra moving boxes, lay them out on the floor. It’ll prevent your floor to get slippery with rainwater and mud.
4. Create a specific plan for your monsoon relocation.
Here’s how,
Look for a specific area in your new place and unload all your boxes in that area. If you’ve got a garage, unload everything in that place. If not, then set up a spot a few feet away from your rooms. And ask someone (preferably dry) to move them one by one.
If you don’t have any specific area to dry your items after the move, you can set up a pop-up tent. Placing it right at the end of the moving truck will be ideal. In this way, you can have extra space to unload your items.
If you’ve items that can have severe damage from rainwater, don’t move them. Either you can keep them to your friends for the time being or store them in a climate-controlled storage unit.
5. Take care of the wet items ASAP.
Here’s how,
Unpack the compromised boxes right away.
Wipe every item with towels before taking them inside.
Are you planning for a monsoon move? Hiring a team of professional removals in Sydney will be the best way to do so. And we hope this blog will help you with that.

Improvisations to Lessen the Damages of a Hail Storm to Your Car
Tumblr media
Are you tired of having your vehicle damaged by the disastrous effects of hail storms? While it is always necessary to be prepared for the inevitable, sometimes the disaster can be overwhelming and far beyond what we think it will be. Hail storms are one of the major weather hazards in Illinois and other states. Aside from the damage to crops and property, vehicles are also no exception. While technological advancements and developments help predict it, thunderstorms can signify a coming hail storm. However, preventive measures or preparations will be better to avoid irreparable damage to your car. Additionally, you must pick an accurate auto shop for hail repair just in case your car got caught up in or damaged by the storm. Lessening the impact of the storm will also spare you from the eye-popping cost of repair you will have when bringing your vehicle to auto body repair in Naperville, IL. Here are more ways and tips you should know to lessen the impact of hail storms.
Time For The Garage! Get your garage cleaned up and prepared to accommodate your vehicle. You might want to eliminate the factor of why you are forced to park outside because your garage is so crowded and stacked up with stuff! It is time to get it cleaned to keep your vehicle safe from the storm.
No Garage? Then Park Under a Tree As absurd as it sounds, some people who lack access to or cannot afford a parking space would prefer to park under a nearby tree to lessen the impact of a hail storm, even though it is advised against doing so because it could result in significant damage. Trees can provide cover and protection from the damaging effects of hail storms if lightning and strong winds are not present.
Improvise a Hail Cover While hail covers can cost from $200 to $300, depending on the model of your car, you might want to save up by improvising a hail cover instead. Also, you can do something to minimize or reduce the damage or impact of the hail storm. You can do this by either choosing any of the following:
Old, Thick, and Padded Blankets A popular improvisation nowadays is the use of blankets. This serves as a cushion and is purposely designed to absorb shock and impact from the golf-sized hail storms. If hailstorms are accompanied by strong winds, these padded blankets will not be blown away because they are typically heavy.
Bags of Potting Soil Worry about the mud later, but having this improvised method can also give much protection to your vehicle from the extremely damaging effects of hail storms. This can be easily spread out on your car and won’t be blown away. You can specifically place this on the fragile parts of your vehicle, such as your windshields.
Cardboard Sheets Some people would recommend this method; however, it might be easily blown away during strong and windy hail storms. Though you can place a weight on them or pile them up together to make them thicker and sturdier, you can also choose appliance boxes because they are thicker than the cheap and regular ones.
Floor Mats or Rugs You can also reduce or minimize the damaging effects of hail storms by making use of floor mats or rugs. You can place its softer or carpeted side on your car windshield with the rubberized sides facing up. If you are securing these mats or rugs atop your car, never use rocks to hold or secure them in place.
Towels and Comforters Hail storm damage can still be reduced by adding additional layers of defense. You can use the towels you have at home. But you will need more to secure them from being blown away. You can also make use of any quilt or thick comforter to get that thicker composition. Remember that the thicker the blankets layered up, the more or better protection they provide.
Plywood Plywoods also offer protection from the hail storm’s golf-sized ice balls. Think about buying an appropriate plywood size for your vehicle. However, you have to secure this properly to avoid dents on your car’s hood, roof, and windshields. Bring your vehicle to an auto body repair in Naperville, IL, for hail damage repair treatment.
Mobile Car Tent If you have no access to covered parking lots or garages, you can opt for an improvised tent solely for the protection of your car from the hail storm. In this way, you can make your tent roof sturdier with durable and resistant materials to lessen the impact of the storm.
If you are caught up in a hail storm while driving, remember to pull over. Do not race up with speeding and panicked drivers around you to avoid unwanted collisions or accidents. Stay inside your vehicle and get on the floor for cover. You can also recline your seat for better protection and use any blanket or jacket you have to cover yourself. And in the aftermath, remember to head to the nearest hospital to be checked for your injuries. For reliable hail storm repairs, do not forget to avail of automotive services in Naperville, IL.
