Entry 1: About Me page including: a brief on your background, sport interests, work experiences and career ambitions. In addition: a reflection on your study performance to date and areas to improve; expectations and aspirations for this subject and your internship.
My name is Rory Gregg and I am a mature-age student completing my final year of a Bachelor of Sports Business Degree at Holmesglen Institute. After completing my VCE at Patterson River Secondary College I worked in transport and logistics for many years before spending a year working in surveying and another year in pool installation. Most recently I have worked as Operations Manager for a Mornington Peninsula holiday rental company while studying. I have been involved in the sports industry for many years and have always been passionate about playing, attending, and watching live sports.
From a young age, I have participated in community team sports such as Australian Rules football, basketball, cricket (indoor & outdoor), indoor soccer and indoor beach volleyball. My main participation interest has always been football playing every year consecutively since under 9’s. My positive experience playing led to my interest in coaching. This has resulted in volunteering to coach under 15’s and 16’s junior football teams, assistant coaching at the senior level and head coach at the reserves level. As far as my professional sports interests, I am an avid follower of the AFL, NFL and NBA competitions. I enjoy playing fantasy sports with these leagues and follow the statistics closely.
Choosing to study Sports Business at Holmesglen has had its rewards and challenges, I have realised my passion and potential in the sports industry through the course, while it has also been challenging after not being a student for over 10 years and working full-time during this course. Each semester I have found more efficient ways of studying, juggling work commitments, sports participation and renovating my first home. While multitasking through it all, I have had some strong results which are pleasing, whereas, in the assessments I have received lower marks, I have then reassessed where I can improve my time management.
My design and digital skills have improved using Canva, Excel and other programs, however, I would like to further improve my Adobe Suite skills.
My expectations for this subject are to make sure I am as prepared as possible to transition to a full-time career in the sporting industry. I would like to ensure my resume stands out against other candidates and my LinkedIn is reflective of my skills and what I have to offer in a future role. This would also include the improved ability to write a professional cover letter that addresses the key selection criteria. I am looking forward to practising my interview skills with my peers one-on-one and in front of multiple peers to replicate my upcoming internship interviews. I am anticipating gaining valuable industry experience throughout the internship and an understanding of the day-to-day expectations while working for different sporting organisations. I want to build my confidence and skills while working in a proactive positive team environment that I learn from. Although I will be preparing myself for employability there will be challenges. Pennington and Standford (2019) state that due to the increasing percentage of higher education graduates, there are vast amounts of underutilised newly-acquired skill sets going to waste in non-standard or insecure work.

He says he's not that old and doesn't remember Ace having everything but he's old enough that he was down there and he had everything he needed they had the air guns the hoses the compressors all of the automatic fasteners and everything roofing nails anything you needed was there wheelbros and actually Dave next door worth it quite a bit and he was pivotal in her son learning all about that and getting jobs done and doing a lot of work so he'll probably have some Branch offices down there in Australia we'll see how it goes saying that there's a big hubbub with them but we don't know what that's about so it might be a matrix people so hoping for the best but plan for the worst. And it's a great idea. Any wishes I can help him and be a contractor with them down here and can drive us humongous truck I don't know what would be a building massive patio he says we can do like outdoor patios and pools I like that because you can carry the unit out really easily if I get a little bigger a little bit taller than Jen probably slightly larger than the Jersey girl so I'm trying to laugh she's pretty big it's like 62 six three maybe like 6465 it could be 64 and we could carry the entertainment area and bring all the papers and lay them all down this is a machine that does it it's all laughing okay no it'll be fun have a little backhoe like the full size Briggs & Stratton that sounds like a good time and you can do projects so I'm looking forward to it I want him to invite me into his life like he is and we can spend time working and then dinner and sleep and then go out and make fun of small people but people going to be getting bigger so probably think everyone's us and have to call out what's going on I can be his girl again and they want to do stuff like that cuz they want to bring back Paris so it's a great idea and I like the hardware store idea you have all sorts of equipment this is going to be fun get approval so I'm going to ask and they said of course so they want to live vicariously through us that's putting them down wasn't really hitting the mark there
Hera
They will this time we promise you that's a great idea he had doing the pool renovation and the entertainment area it might even be able to do it for that company at the mall and we put a Sears in the equipment there as well as at least it's a good idea he says a lot of these places need renovation and he could team up with some subcontractors it's real pain in the ass to do you have to get a license again there's something to do and so we're going to start work tonight she wants to do that and see these two big people carrying the thing in it's nice they probably wheel it but still would take no effort jacuzzis and pools and they spend way too much money on these things
He can finally charge a real price but it's really a good idea, they can make a few million a year doing it eventually get cruise and go inspect and call the inspector and get all the materials it's really not a bad idea so we're going to get together and plan these things it's a lot of work but he's up for it and they probably won't let him be in the office guy
Thor Freya
It's not really the greatest idea but we don't have any ideas the design the pool and they probably wouldn't be able to take it over but he'd be installing it and have a pool maintenance company taken over and I know that people offer warranty and guarantee and they never follow through but his company would be doing it and there's a lot of stuff he does it's not bad like he has the manufactured take the load that they should and if they don't they get taken over that you really should so you can grow I don't want to see another company you're taking over cuz they don't want to do anything for anyone ever about anything people need these pools down here places that hell hole
Mac
Of course we're going to be the way but nobody cares this is of course people care
Tommy f
I'm buying a huge lot of the Vincent I was going to say the mini bike but I see what he's saying too they're trying to get him on the mini bike not very hard he wants a scooter he doesn't want a bike to go all over the place it's too much power he doesn't know how to ride it scooter's a handle enough and put the gears it looks pretty cool second mini chopper is always wanted one yeah it's just a little lame
Mac
They were looking at that it looks kind of cat cheesy saying how's the e-bike look ding-a-ling it's very cheesy but looking at what can you do I don't know you must look like a teeny bopper that's sort of get that
Tommy f
I think he likes the idea he wants to wipe you out and stuff but still getting stuff would be really easy and you could go places during the day can we get one and she would be laughing her ass off cuz it looked like the cutest thing it's like those big guys that ride the small bikes they're not Shriners like this special name from it's like Bill and Ted hook or something that big fat cowboys it's kind of funny cuz it's close to the name he remembers it but that's fine still they have a great time this is so lousy it's so light you have to chain him up so this cheating together what a nuisance though but still it's better than this it's gas it'll cost him money and a little insurance money but at least he can get around and possibly get side jobs and need to threatening him it's a start
Thor Freya
The actual John Cena scooter everybody imagine that we have to look at it because it could be actually be a problem and he says it seriously too he doesn't want to drag every clone in here there is

swimming pool contractors
There are several different styles of swimming pool construction that homeowners can choose from, depending on their personal preferences, budget, and the size and shape of their yard. Some popular swimming pool construction styles include:
Concrete/Gunite Pools
These are the most common type of swimming pool, made by spraying a mixture of concrete and sand onto a steel frame. Concrete pools are highly customizable and can be built in any size, shape, or depth.
Fiberglass Pools
Fiberglass pools are pre-manufactured in a factory and then transported to the site for installation. They are less customizable than concrete pools, but they can be installed more quickly and require less maintenance.
Vinyl-Liner Pools
Vinyl-liner pools are constructed with a flexible vinyl liner that is fitted to a steel or polymer frame. They are less expensive than concrete and fiberglass pools, but the liner will need to be replaced every 10 years or so.
Natural Pools
Natural pools are becoming increasingly popular, especially for homeowners who want a more eco-friendly option. These pools use a combination of plants, natural filtration systems, and carefully controlled water flow to create a chemical-free swimming environment.
Infinity Pools
Infinity pools are designed to give the illusion that the pool goes on forever, with water flowing over the edge into a catch basin below. They are often built on a slope or cliff to take advantage of the view.
Lap Pools
Lap pools are long and narrow, designed for swimming laps and getting exercise. They are typically built for fitness rather than recreation.
Overall, each style of pool has its own unique advantages and disadvantages, so it is important to consider all factors before making a decision on which style of pool to build.

Which is the Best Swimming Pool Renovation Company in Australia?
Choosing a swimming pool renovation specialist is not going to be a tough task if you know exactly where to look at. You have to follow some simple rules of selection.
First, Create a Search Radius
That's the first thing to do. You have to create a search radius in your area. Australia is a vast place, and millions of professional renovators are working. So, while you are searching on the internet, better focus on the location you belong to and then search.
Ask for Recommendations
Have you visited a friend's place lately and got impressed by his amazing swimming pool. Great! Ask him the name of his pool renovator. This will further make your sorting work easy. So, never shy away from asking for names.
Check the Price
Of course, pricing is a big challenge when it comes to finding the right renovators. Check the pricing asked by different professionals, take their quotes and compare those to know the standard price in the market. It will further help you to crack the best deal.
Know the Work Variety
The next thing you must do is to check what exactly the professionals include in their renovation work. Do they also repair the swimming pool parts where required? Do they include tasks like leak detection, repair or pool resurfacing? Make sure that you know their variety of services well enough.
If you are searching for a reliable expert of swimming pool renovations in Brisbane or Gold Coast area, in that case, Platypus Pools will undoubtedly be your best choice.

$9.4 Million Historic Estate Leaves Its Wake Along Sydney’s Colo River
Listed for about $9.36 million (AUD 12 million), the Sydney estate known as Venetiaville has been … [+] home to a host of notable owners including rowing great Peter Kemp.
Private Property Global
Generations of notable owners have shaped this Australian property.
It’s been an ideal place for a champion sculler turned boat builder to call home. And a landscape designer. And a publishing company executive.
The estate, where Sydney’s Colo River flows into the Hawkesbury River, dates to 1890 and was once owned by Peter Kemp. The self-taught rower had been born along the Hawkesbury and went on to become the World Sculling Championship titleholder many times over.
The Sydney estate property encompasses some 50 acres bordering the Colo River.
Private Property Global
When Kemp wasn’t winning competitions, building boats or testing the waters outside his front door, he coached other scullers onto victory. Two of his children would go on to be champion rowers.
Although Kemp’s original home burnt down in 1904 after he had moved on, it was rebuilt by the titleholder then as a single-story sandstone cottage. A much later owner, a landscape designer, added his vision with park-like grounds.
Former owners have each left their mark, including a landscape designer who added park-like grounds.
Private Property Global
The current residents had a modern addition designed by architect Timothy Moon in 2006, did renovation work, further upgraded the landscaping and restored the citrus orchard. The swimming pool, guesthouse and studio were built.
The approximately $9.36-million estate (AUD 12 million), known as Venetiaville, encompasses 50 acres with formal gardens, lawn and forest. Trees line the driveway.
The historic sandstone-style home, which dates to the 1890s, has a wide, column-lined veranda that … [+] surrounds a portion of the main house.
Private Property Global
The elevated site takes in river views from the residence and resort style infinity pool.
A wide, column-lined veranda surrounds one portion of the main house, which has three bedrooms. An open plan great room with a vaulted ceiling adjoins partially covered terrace space as does the entertainment pavilion. Details include high ceilings, exposed beams, walls of glass that frame the gardens, fireplaces and a library/office.
An open-plan great room lined with walls of glass sits at the heart of the home.
Private Property Global
The sky-lighted kitchen with white cabinets, stainless-steel appliances and an island adjoins a butler’s pantry and sandstone wine cellar.
A tranquil corner of the yard contains an outdoor shower.
Skylights top the chef’s kitchen, which adjoins the great room. The home was enhanced and expanded … [+] in 2006 by architect Timothy Moon.
Private Property Global
The guest cottage includes a study, three bedrooms and two bathrooms. The wooden barn has a loft, bathroom and workshop. There’s a two-car carport and a pond.
Ken Jacobs of Private Property Global is the listing agent for the property, which is near boat ramps, hiking and riding trails and the amenities of the historic village of Windsor.
The office/library features built-ins and a fireplace.
Private Property Global
The Colo River is a popular stretch for fishing, canoeing, picnicking and bushwalking.
The international Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport is about 61 miles away.
Portions of the home open to a large terrace with a dining patio, swimming pool and raised spa.
Private Property Global
The elevated site takes in river views from the residence and pool.

GRIMMBROOK SEASON 1 EPISODE 1 “THE AWAKENING”
The citizens of Grimmbrook attend a charity event to show their support to the community and collect funds in order to help with renovations. Things go just as planned and awards are given out, including a free night stay at the Hayman Cabin in Swan Lake. Jack and Danielle prepare themselves for a night of fun only to discover that they’re getting more than what they bargained for.
ABIGAIL MYERS
Abigail meets Madelaine to get the usual cut of coke the girls at the Candy House offer to their clients. On a whim, she decides to buy Dust for herself as well. Madelaine warns her about it being highly addicting, but she assures the woman it is just this once. [x] She has been feeling rattled since her assault, abusing drugs and alcohol more often than usual to cope with her anger and depression. While not usually one to meddle, when she catches a glimpse of the guy who left Dani to rot in jail, she decides to take her frustrations out on him. Just for a minute. Joseph doesn’t appreciate that plan so much. [x] Abigail continues to be affected by her assault, but Liam teaches her a few moves to make sure anyone who tries to hurt her in the future gets their ass kicked. [x] Abigail decides to grab some coffee before starting off the day, but on her way to the coffee shop, some asshole drives over a puddle and leaves her soaked in dirty water. The same asshole drops off Jesus at the coffee shop she meant to go to, and she decides to let out her anger on the guy, who turns out to be actually super nice, buying her coffee and letting her borrow his hoodie. [x] At the park, Abigail enjoys a relaxing afternoon with Chad. She takes the opportunity to come clean about her lie regarding him, which Chad takes pretty well. [x] Abigail has been seeing Javier whenever the mood strikes, and it’s no different today, except that she gets to ask him a question and learns that he runs some sort of fighting ring. It makes sense to her, and it does make her curious as to how it works, but she doesn’t have the time to press. She can only hope to see it for herself in the future. [x] Abigail makes Caleb’s favorite for dinner in an attempt to butter him up so she can ask him what he thinks about her looking for another job, but the conversation quickly takes a turn when their issues are brought up, and in the end she doesn’t get to ask him anything, only to promise to live by him and his word. [x] Not many people know of what happened to Abigail, but Aurora is one of them. The blonde stops by Abigail’s office at the agency to gift her with a bracelet she got from Casper, and the two talk about the recent violence they’ve experienced. Deciding to share Aurora’s coke, the two go home to party up, only to realize what they did was white heroin. It ends up in an emergency trip to the hospital. [x] After her radio silence post moving out of Dani’s and into her own apartment, Abigail gives her friend a call and sets up a hang out. There are many things she wants to say to Danielle, but her fear of losing her speaks louder and keeps her from sharing what she has gone through in the past weeks, as well as a good, ugly chunk of her life. She finds comfort in Dani’s understanding instead. [x] It has been a while since Abigail has last seen Fawn and the two decide to catch up. She learns about the woman’s little feud with Chad, and tells her all about this silly pool party idea she is entertaining. [x] Abigail runs into Rosie at the fundraiser dinner event and the two dance as they discuss Rosie’s crush and Abigail’s lack of a single romantic bone in her body. Rosie has had a few too many drinks though, and her compliments keep getting better and better. [x]
ARIELA LOPEZ
For Ariela, there were a few memorable moments these past few weeks. It started out with spending time trying to get Daniel to ease up a bit and plan a hypothetical, but possible vacation come the fall to Australia while she fixed him a drink. ( x ) She watched her good pal Tyler get into it with Carrie Pope in the middle of a shift. ( x ) Visited her sweet buddy boy Jack at the precinct with some goodies in hand to hopefully persuade him to not enact the prank he was plotting against a friend. ( x ) And to wrap it all up somehow convinced Jesus to be her plus one to the charity event fundraiser, where there she ran into Tyler who was acting a bit secretive. She’ll surely get to the bottom of it. ( x ) ( x )
AURORA MYERS
A year ago, Alex met Caleb for the first time at one of Russell’s parties. [ x ] Rory and Ella saw one another at the farmer’s market. they talked and waited in line together. [ x ] She saw Harriet while she was getting newspaper. They spoke for the first time in a long time. [ x ] She ran into Daniel outside the coffee shop. they discussed the Madison murder case. [ x ] After one of her coworkers tells her about the cage, Rory went down there to see what the fuss was. she met Javier while she was watching the fight. [ x ] She needed to have blood drawn as part of a checkup. Cordelia made being at the hospital less of a nerve-wracking experience. [ x ] She went to the fairy tails bar. She talked to Tyler while he made her a round of vodka shots. [ x ] concerned about Abby’s wellbeing in the wake of her attack, Rory reached out to her best friend Dani and the two ended up sharing a drink. [ x ] in a quest to feel better, Rory and Abby decided to do cocaine together. thanks to Caleb’s tampering, they unknowingly did heroin instead, which promptly caused Rory to overdose. [ x ]
BRANDON WOLFE
Brandon is called over to work when someone claiming to be his niece stops by the station. At first he suspects Cosette is pulling some kind of heist on him, that this is a trick or some terrible joke, but the more the girl talks, the more he believes her, and in the end he offers to look after her until she is safe. [x] Brandon’s computer at the station has an issue and he is quick to call over the IT guy. It doesn’t take long for him to notice Jack’s interest in law enforcement as something other than the IT guy, and he decides to take advantage of his ambitions, recruiting him to take a second look into Madison’s laptop. [x] Brandon isn’t quite sure why Caleb decides to meet him at a fine dining restaurant to hand over his cut, but he won’t turn down the experience if the guy’s paying. It soon becomes clear Caleb might have a personal interest in his company, which doesn’t shock, but does surprise him. [x] On their way out of the house to the fundraiser dinner, Brandon protests against Cosette’s choice in wardrobe. The argument gets a little heated, but he is only worried about the girl and in the end, they find a compromise. [x] At the fundraiser dinner, Brandon invites Winifred to dance. During the dance, the two discuss the future of Grimmbrook and its crime world. They don’t trust each other, but they are trying to. [x] Still at the fundraiser dinner, Brandon is joined by Chad. The two have a quick conversation about their relationship and how people perceive them before Brandon suggests that they no longer see each other until Madison’s case is closed. Chad isn’t a fan of the idea. [x] Brandon runs into Caleb at the Sherwood’s fundraiser dinner, and the two agree to meet after the dinner for a little dessert. [x] Brandon takes Daniel to the Grimmbrook Memorial Hospital to interview a girl who has been found around the time Madison went missing, and has been in a coma since. Once she is awake, she has new information on the mysteries that plague the town. Few answers, but many more questions. Brandon gives the case lead to Daniel. [x] Brandon and Winifred finally meet to talk business. They are making an effort to trust each other, but neither is particularly trustworthy. Brandon has reservations about Winifred’s interest in Madison’s case, but agrees to allow her and her connections to help. [x]
CALEB MYERS
While taking care of Abigail Caleb receives a visit from his drug dealer who seems a little upset that he missed their meeting. Caleb ends up buying from her and driving her home like a total gentleman. [ x ] It’s at some fundraiser a year ago that he meets Aurora and decides to start his courtship [ x ] It’s that time of the month again and Caleb invites Brandon to dinner to both pay him and to flirt with him only to realize that the situation is not as uncomfortable as he thought it’d be. [ x ] [ x ] After a morning jog Cordelia bumps into him ( literally ) inside a coffee place and spilled his smoothie all over the floor but she buys him a new one so all is forgiven. [ x ] Chad drops by one day to see Abigail and Caleb decides to ask him a very important question then proceeds to make him feel uncomfortable with information about a certain torture device that no one ever wants to hear. [ x ] At the office, Detective Mickey asks him some follow up questions about the Madison Redding murder case and Caleb throws Chad under the bus. [ x ] Fawn is their new web designer and she and Caleb discuss the new designs and then he invites her to brunch. [ x ] Caleb attends the charity event where he insults Jesus after he confuses him with the help and makes a few racist comments [ x ], annoys Tyler with his views on health and bacon [ x ], gets a lesson on humility that he never asked for from Esmeray [ x ], decided that seducing Ella would be bad [ x ] has a nice chat with Fawn [ x ], and makes a bet with Carrie [ x ]. It’s during this event that he meets with Brandon again and after a a back and forth banter they end up spending the night together. [ x ] Abigail has made Caleb’s favorite dish and tells him that she doesn’t want to fight anymore to which Caleb responds with some good old fashion guilt tripping. [ x ]
CARRIE POPE
Carrie Pope had caught a glimpse of a particular blonde that she visited at the strip club (x) when she saw the man she’d rekindled a sexual relationship with fight with her (x). When she caught most of the answers she wanted, she departed and made a little visit to Javier. A deal was made in place where his best fighter and Kai would fight for a meeting with Javier’s boss. (x) At the Charity Gala, Carrie mingled with some individuals but took the opportunity to meet up with her business partner and set up a little deal in place when it came to some blue haired-bimbo (x). Needless to say, she’s pretty eager to find out what comes for her. Perhaps even learn a thing or two should she win the bet.
CHAD REDDING
Chad tried to hit up the bar, but his drinking was stopped when he had to help out Cosette, so he was a little annoyed about that. [x] He was able to forget about that annoyance though when he met up with Abigail who shared with him that she had lied to Caleb saying they were hooking up. [x] He had his first clashing interaction with Fawn [x] which was followed by another at the charity event. [x] Chad had a quick little convo with Brandon where he’s pretty sure he got fuck-buddy dumped. [x] But it was okay because he still found a hookup at the end of the night in the form of Jesus. [x] That joy was short lived though as Chad went to go visit Abigail and had a little conversation with Caleb where torture devices were mentioned. [x]
COSETTE FOX
Cosette Fox came to town after her father told her to run to Grimmbrook and find Brandon. Her entire family is dead and she’s feeling lost and scared. Brandon is the only family she has left. (X) After having lived with Brandon for about two weeks she comes out at night to find Luke Mason in her kitchen. She assaults him with a loaf of bread and demands to know why he’s here. She finds out he lives here and they have somehow missed each other for weeks. (X) Having been in town for almost a month now, Cosette finally gets her wish and gets into a bar fight. She’s injured and Chad helps her deal with the cut on her forehead outside. (X) Before the fundraiser her and Brandon get into an argument about how appropriate her dress is. Or how not appropriate it is. It’s incredibly apparent how related they are. (X) Cosette runs into Cordelia and teaches her a little bit about the importance of instagram. She opens up for the first time in her life and admits that she’s grateful to have this woman in her life. And not just because she lead her to the snack table. (X)
DANIELLE MASON
After the spring festival [ X ] it was business as usual for Danielle who was ambushed at work by Carrie, trying to figure out where she stood with Joseph [ X ]. Not to mention an altercation where someone put their hands on her, prompting Javier to step in and end with another argument between them. [ X ] It led to a drunken encounter of mistaken identity with the local detective, Daniel who them walked her home to make sure she made it in one piece [ X ]. But her string of decent luck ran out when a night at the laundromat turned into an admission to having feelings in the past for Joseph, and left her clothes behind in the process [ X ]. Luke stopped by the house again, this time with some disturbing tale about what happened to him in the mine tour after the earthquake while Danielle didn’t fully believe him, she knows that something happened to him down there. [ X ] Some of her time was well spent with Fawn on the trail, talking about possible career paths that they could take [ X ] while Danielle made the most of it with seeking out a job opportunity with Winifred at The Red Apple [ X ]. It might be a plea to find her way to being friends again, but it was worth a shot to see where it takes them. Abigail resurfaced in Danielle’s life again, the best friends getting close to being more honest with each other as they got drunk by the lake [ X ]. The Gala was a roaring success as Danielle managed to get in without an invitation and ran into Tyler, both promising to make good decisions [ X ] but neither listening to them as she went home with Rosie [ X ]. Jack won a weekend trip to an all expenses paid cabin, invited Danielle, and she took it to avoid any kind of feelings that might have been there which were quickly forgotten when both of them saw and heard the ghost of Madison [ X ].
DANIEL MICKEY
Daniel tried to do something nice, but it backfired. He paid it forward, but it turned out, Tyler Decker was in line behind him. They came to verbal blows as Daniel demanded his money back (x). Things were looking up when he ran into Cordelia at Quasi Nova, and the pair caught up (x). He finally managed to pin Jesus down and get him to admit that there were some new pixie dust dealers after many threats (x). He visited Caleb at the Candy House and asked him a few questions about Madison’s case. He told Daniel that Madison and her brother Chad had gotten into a big fight shortly before her murder, something he wants to look into (x). Later, he ran into Caleb’s wife, Aurora. The two exchanged pleasantries and talked about Madison’s case before they headed their separate ways (x). He saw another person he hadn’t seen since he did interviews – Danielle Mason. With their names so similar, she accidentally picked up his meal, but they ended up splitting it before he walked her home (x). He went to the bar and began to plan a vacation to Australia with Ariela Lopez (x). Over the weekend, he went on a walk with Fawn. They talked about their hobbies as she convinced him to get a beer with her (x). Work picked up for him. He went with Brandon to question Jillian, a girl who was beaten up, though she didn’t remember much. Afterward, Brandon entrusted Daniel to be the lead on that investigation (x). Daniel went to the fundraiser at the Sherwood. He saw Tyler with a bloody face, giving him more satisfaction than he felt in a long time (x). Later, he ran into Luke Mason while observing some art, and they debated what it was worth it to spend money on (x).
ESMERAY DEMIR
While working at the studio, Esmeray locked up to find herself with several individuals. The first was the likes of the sheriff (x), accompanying her to get a bite of food as they caught up. She accompanied Jesus to a bar for a little bit the following day (x), after she had a quick session with Luke at the dance studio once they made a deal that if he’d help her fix up some little things around the dance studio she hadn’t finished, she’d teach him some dances (x). In the end, it was her session with Danielle that she ended up looking forward to the most. As an ex exotic-dancer, she likes to help danielle with her routines and moves. (x) While going to the charity event, she stumbled upon a particular personality that peaked her interest (x).
FAWN GOLDWIN
This month consisted of her weekly walks with Danielle ( x ), most recently talking about career paths and business opportunities. Followed by colliding into her archenemy Chad( x ), in a similar fashion. Fortunately, meeting up with Winifred ( x ) lightened her mood as they discussed upgrading the menus at the Red Apple. Middle of the month was met with touching base with Caleb ( x ) regarding the updates she provided for the Candy House, woodworking with Tyler ( x ), dropping off brownies to Joseph ( x ) who somehow convinced her learning how to ride a motorcycle was a good idea, and more excitingly attending the town’s Charity Fundraiser. It’s there she met the lovely Jesus ( x ) , ran into Caleb ( x ) whom she shared a glass of champagne with, and yet again, ran into Chad ( x ) begrudgingly exchanging a few hostile words. Last few weeks wrapped up nicely, catching up with Abigail ( x ) and somehow convincing Daniel ( x ) after their walk to grab a few drinks with her.
GIO PANICUCCI
Gio actually tried to go out and about - The Red Apple - to get a little fresh air and his usual sandwich. However, while there, he ran into Winifred, someone he vaguely remembered. [x] With stressors building up in his life, Gio agreed to have a drink with Tyler, which quickly turned into Tyler finger painting and giving Gio his work. [x]
HARRIET REDDING
Harriet had finally found the nerve to pick clean up her niece’s room after speaking with Danielle, even inviting the young girl over for moral support and help. (x) Placing boxes in storage for the meantime. The next day after, the red head stumbled upon a friend and found herself asking questions in regard to his job and her niece, finding both his cold retorts unsettling. In turn she wonders if peering under the veil of Caleb’s business might be worth it (x). With her thoughts consumed by her niece’s death, she didn’t feel the letter opening slice through her palm, forcing her into Cordelia’s presence as the lithe woman stitched her up. (x) From there, she visited her nephew and made strides when it came to their bond, (x) even getting herself a hug from him when she hung out at the Charity event (x).
JACK SUMMER
Ever since the earthquake hit, Jack’s been bitten by that bug called ambition again. He talked it over with detective Crock when helping him clean up the rubble in town [ X ] and later, on his way home, bothered an injured Danielle with it until she allowed him to walk her through the dark. [ X ] It was Sheriff Brandon who eventually picked up on Jack’s eagerness to help and offered to let him be the pair of fresh eyes looking over some actual evidence. [ X ] Of course, when Tyler Decker phoned in for his help pulling a prank on detective Mickey, Jack rushed over to discuss plans and learn a little more about the longstanding feud between them. [ X ] Something he was later reminded wasn’t actually all that helpful when his friend Ariela stopped by the station to drop off scones and a small guilt trip. [ X ] When a charity fundraiser dinner was set up, Jack evidently reached out to miss DuPont to offer his services at her event and ended up being part of the IT team. He entered with Danielle, helping her roll inside of her majestic cake but had to cut his time with her short to get to work. During his break, he was approached by a girl called Abigail who’d been looking to liven up the place and followed her rather blindly into the worst improv of his life in order to steal borrow another rich couple’s hotel room key. The rest of the evening he spent mostly getting drunk with her upstairs. [ X ] Until the raffle took place and his name rolled out. As a form of apology (and cause he didn’t know who else to ask) Jack asked Danielle to join him on the luxurious weekend trip he’d won but the cabin on Swan Lake was one he’d rather forget soon. [ X ]
JAVIER MORENO
After the earthquake hit, Javi received a visit from Jesus, who came to check up on him but ended up helping him clean up his apartment [x]. The following day, he had an encounter with his ex at Fairy Tails, that didn’t end up okay after he helped her to get a perv off of her [x]. Javier received an unpleasant visit from Carrie at the Cage, as she tried to strike a deal with the Seven through a fight, an argument ensued [x]. Saw Joseph at the pub, and walked up to him to have a chat about some jobs he could help them with [x]. Late at night at the parking lot, a drunk Chad approached him and Javi lent him a phone to call someone to pick him up, as they made each other company [x]. Abigail’s curiosity brought up an odd question about food after they had sex, that later veered into learning about their respective jobs [x].
JESUS ALVARADO
After sleeping through the Earthquake, Jesus was woken by Tyler, who came to check on him (X). The next morning, Jesus stopped by Javi’s to help clean and make sure he was alright (X). Jesus and Daniel Mickey met later so that Daniel could grill Jesus for new information, but Jesus was reluctant to cooperate (X). In the pre-dawn hours one morning, Luke Mason woke Jesus after he slept-walked outside, and walked him back to his apartment (X). The next night, Danielle Mason visited The Cage so that she and Jesus could spar themselves into exhaustion (X). Jesus’ new dog, Flower, stole Raya Cohen’s laundry and he awkwardly returned it to her (X). At the Gingerbread and Waffles Cafe Abigail Meyers confronted Jesus about a misunderstanding, but they worked it out and Jesus gave her his sweatshirt and a coffee (X). Ariela Lopez invited Jesus to the Gala at the Sherwood as her date (X). While there Jesus met Fawn Goldwin (X) and had to restrain himself from punching Caleb Meyers (X). He also met Chad Redding, and they decided to meet up together after the Gala (X). Before this, Jesus ran into Tyler, and they were both unable to keep from acting on their attractions, going to make out in a hallway (X). Spooked by his feelings, Jesus left to find Chad. The next morning, Jesus made him breakfast (X).
JOSEPH MADDOX
After the Spring Festival, Luke came over, and Joseph gave him stitches, as they bonded after not talking for so many years (x). Joseph reconnected with Carrie and they reestablished the boundaries of their relationship (x). Later, while he was at the bar, Abigail berated him at the bar for leaving the Masons’ behind all those years ago (x). Rosie Flanagan brought her car to his shop, and the two talked about her move from California to Grimmbrook (x). He met with Javier, and they made plans to get a car painted for him, as well as sell parts to from another (x). When he was doing his laundry, none other than Danielle walked into the laundromat. He tried to apologize, but it went south. Joseph was left in shock when she confessed her feelings and ran away (x). On the bright side, he convinced Fawn to take motorcycle lessons, but only on the condition that he did too (x).
LIAM PHOENIX
Liam encounters Abigail behind a bar, possibly helping to avoid an unpleasant encounter which leads to something of an impromptu lesson on disabling an opponent [ x ]. He’s invited to a meeting with his friend Javier about a potential fight on the cards, one with higher stakes than usual [ x ]. Subjected to an impromptu interrogation by Harriet in relation to her nieces death [ x ]. He also encounters Cordelia at her volunteer job, a stray bringing in another stray [ x ]. Meanwhile his pursuance of aurora to test her loyalty to Caleb continues [ x ]
LUKE MASON
After Luke’s run-in with a monster in the collapsed mine, he ran to Joseph’s apartment, having only recently reconciled, and asked the man to stitch up the slash on his arm from the monster’s claw. They hashed out a bit more of the history between them and have found a new understanding (x). A few days later he reached out to his brother (x) and his sister (x) about what happened to him in the mines. Dani was a little more understanding, than his twin, but Luke didn’t blame them. He wouldn’t believe his story, if it hadn’t happened to him personally. He met Brandon’s niece in the middle of the night and made her french toast (x) and later on helped her in her time of need at the fundraiser (x). Where he also got into a heated art conversation with Daniel (x), commiserated their predicament with Jesus (x) and chatted with Chad in a corner where they could avoid most of the party-goers (x).
ROSIE FLANAGAN
Rosie and Abigail text and agree to meet for a brunch buffet sometimes soon. (Text Thread) (X) Later, Rosie’s mini cooper Minnie breaks down and she’s forced to go see Joseph to help fix it. (X) Winnie calls Rosie into her office to discuss how she’s fitting in and feeling about working at the Red Apple. Rosie feels an intense connection and it’s getting harder and harder to not tell the other woman that they are sisters. (X) At the Charity fundraiser, Rosie runs into Tyler who is likely concussed and encourages him not to drink by drinking for him. (X) Not completely sober but still having fun she then runs into Abigail and admits that she has feelings for someone before teaching her new friend how to waltz. (X) Now that Rosie is very drunk and very pumped up she stumbles into Danielle. She manages to convince the girl to come home with her and continues to hope that maybe there’s a dance they will be a little bit more than just friends with benefits. (X)
TYLER DECKER
Tyler got a free coffee off of Daniel Mickey, leading to typical squabble between them (x). Drinking his horrible $9 coffee he bumped into a keyed-up Gio, eventually convincing him to come back to Ty’s for booze and finger-painting (though Gio refused to join in the painting). (x) He ran into Carrie at the Red Apple over dinner, spilling his drink on her dress and getting himself on her shit list. (x) Immediately afterwards he retreated to the bar to get sympathy from fellow bartender and good friend Ariela. (x) After forging his and Javi’s way into the charity auction, Ty runs into Danielle. He lends her his coat, and they agree to get into trouble and then compare notes after debating whether or not they should. (x) When Ariela arrives with Jesus, Ty walked face-first into a wall and Rosie gives him shit for it. (x) He went looking for Cordelia to patch up his face and make sure he doesn’t have a concussion; and admitted to a bit of fear around getting serious with Jesus. (x) Ariela found him and he thanked her for bringing Jesus, she became suspicious as neither man had mentioned each other to her. She promised Ty they’d have a longer discussion about it all later. (x) He purposefully went to antagonize Daniel, who wanted to go congratulate whoever gave Tyler a bruised bloody nose. (x) Afterwards he overheard Caleb insulting someone he assumed was Jesus. What followed certainly qualified as a strange course of conversation, that ended in Tyler wandering off having caught sight of his friend. (x) After making out in the hallway, Jesus admitted he didn’t want to end up with things awkward between them again and left Tyler there. (x)

Cutting, calling, sticking, sitting, subtitling: Week 15, Spain
With future certainty and concrete plans nowhere in sight, this week’s blog post is in praise of the mundane. Seven days of everyday life.
When prepping for this blog entry, I started panicking. What’s the overarching message? The big-picture mood of the week or the lesson I’ve learnt? Well this week, there isn’t one. It’s been seven days of everyday life and I reckon that’s worth celebrating too.
We’ve been pitching for some exciting work this week.
I can’t talk about the specifics, but it’s heartening to be actually planning and quoting for real-life projects that could bring in real-life money and real-life experience. We pretty much work on Broaden as a full-time venture anyway (regardless of if it makes us money), so when prospective clients reach out to Broaden to ask us to do more of what we love, then that’s a bonus.
I guess that’s the beauty of filmmaking, it’s so broad and its potential is so great that it can be valuable for a whole lot of people. I also think in the coming ‘new normal’ as countries, cities and communities come to adapt life around Covid-19, that the role of video and online streaming will shift, and perhaps become a more central element in our lives.
I’ve also been working away at editing the video we started filming last week about Economics for a more just and equitable world. It’s starting to take shape, though there is a lot of refinement needed (I’ve cut 150 minutes down to 30 minutes but still have a fair way to go!). Working on this video is also bringing about a newfound challenge of how we make videos like this visually stimulating, when they predominantly feature digital interviews and we can’t film footage out and about due to lockdown. It’s forcing us to get more creative with motion graphics, which is no bad thing.
In what is the culmination of a longstanding project, we also interviewed Rich Evans about The Foundations in New South Wales this week.
‘The Foundations’ is a truly extraordinary project/place in Portland, a tiny town about two-hours inland from Sydney. I first discovered the project when I worked in Australia, and the company I worked for, RobertsDay, was involved in a masterplanning process. Portland was established around a cementworks which went on to not only be the driving economic force behind the town, but also the backbone of the community. It was a source of civic pride (cement from Portland famously went to Sydney amid the building boom, coining it the phrase ‘The Town That Built Sydney’), and also helped establish social infrastructure like the swimming pool that is still a celebrated destination in the little town today. Sadly, as the cementworks decreased in scale and eventually closed in the nineties, it had a huge impact on the town.
(images) Scenes from January 2019 when we started filming at The Foundations, Portland NSW.
Back at RobertsDay, I had the pleasure of working on the masterplan and placemaking work for the next chapter of the cementworks, and I immediately fell in love with the place. Not only was it this incredible place of industrial heritage, but the owners actually wanted to transform the site into something really special - a tourist destination, an asset to the community, and a revitalised part of the town. From its current state - fenced-off, closed, and perhaps even an eyesore, the owners wanted to introduce artwork, markets, community gardens, museum collections, fishing and camping, weddings, concerts and a whole host of other things.
It was obvious that there was a story about The Foundations that deserved to be told, and so in January 2019 George and I spent a weekend there, filming local residents, business owners, and the wonderful Rich Evans, ‘Chief Reactivation Officer’ from The Foundations. This was before we’d even launched Broaden, but we were passionate to use filmmaking to document the transformation that was taking place there. However, over the course of 2019, other things took centre stage in our lives and we never got around to editing the final film.
And so, in lockdown here in Spain, we decided it was finally time to close off this story. Just this week,we called Rich over Zoom and asked him all about how things have progressed since we last visited Portland. Rich is a larger-than-life character who had so much good stuff to report (an artist in residence, growing market attendee numbers, new custom-designed public furniture, and the renovation of a central historic building which involved the removal of 1000s of bees!).
In a strange way, I’d originally thought of this hiatus as a weakness for our film, but it now has added another facet to the story: giving Rich a chance to reflect on progress at The Foundations and show viewers how much is possible in the space of a year.
Making collages serves as respite for the mind.
I return to my collage practice as a meditative practice, and a restorative one too. It’s something I do when I want to clear my mind, and use a different part of my brain from the video-editing-zoom-calling-analytical-planning side of my brain.
That said, the last few paper collages I’ve made have felt like a bit of struggle, and I’ve felt rather uninspired. The collages are never meant to be a forced thing, but instead something visceral and playful, but in recent times they’d stopped being that.
Until this week! This week, inspired to make a collage for my mum’s birthday, I started getting my boxes of magazines and compiled sheets out, stuck my ‘Making Collage’ playlist on, and somehow just found my groove. Shapes and forms shouted out to me, and I was more preoccupied with the mood of the pieces than perfection and precision. I was drawn to more ambiguous textures and the way that they could be layered, and what started as one collage ended up being a series of three (the other two of which I’ll later publish this week).
(image) The collage I made for my mum’s birthday, ‘Flirtatious Textures’.
Whilst I’ve feel as though I’ve found my swing with collage-making again (and have been also considering embarking on some critical writing about my creative process using academic texts for reference), this week I had a piece rejected. I’d made it to enter into a competition, and when the rejection email landed in my inbox this week, the usual heart-racing pangs of inadequacy entered my mind. Not only had I lost money on the entry fee, but my work was ‘unwanted’. I’ve spent some time facing those demons these last couple of days and reminding myself that I make my work for ME.
So if that’s the cutting and sticking, and the zoom interviews were the calling, what’s the sitting and subtitling this week’s post refers to?
We’ve been doing a lot of sitting. Sitting and staring, sitting and watching the sun set, sitting and reading books, sitting and checking Instagram, sitting and feeling guilt for sitting, sitting and swatting mosquitoes away (it’s rather hot all of a sudden), sitting and eating crisps, sitting and calling friends, sitting and laughing, smiling, frowning, thinking.
(images, left to right) Everyday scenes from the cottage, cutting and sticking, and a lot of sitting (as demonstrated by George!)
It feels totally bonkers that as we face a global health pandemic, all I’m drawn to do (or able to do) is sit. And George and I have certainly discussed the guilt, lack of motivation, boredom and soul-searching that’s grown (and comes along with sitting!) in recent weeks. I’m not sure if there’s some grand benefit to all this sitting, but it has called for the enjoyment of many a good book, and also a good phonecall.
One of the most joyful moments (spent sitting!) this week was surely the video call I had for my Granny’s 80th birthday, between my mum, my brother, my aunt and my Granny herself. There were laughs and cheers, ridiculous filters used and lots of talk of birthday booze and plentiful cake. But after the call, there were also moments of reflection and of gratitude; that we are able to celebrate together (albeit digitally) for the momentous milestone that is my wonderful Granny’s eightieth birthday, as she sits alone in her house in Scotland, is a blessing. Of course, I would have loved to have seen her in person, but I am so bloody grateful that we can connect to her even if just through the airwaves.
Birthdays in May seem to be a common occurrence in my family, and this week saw my Mum’s birthday too. Again, there was a sense of loss that unsurprisingly, I couldn’t be with her due to coronavirus (a fact made worse by the fact I don’t think I’ve been with my Mum on her birthday for about five years), but we were also able to chat and videocall. And I was also able to go back through my photos, reflecting on wonderful times shared across the years.
(images, left to right) Looking back at memories with mum - as a child in a sling, on our trip to Sri Lanka in 2018, and at the exhibition opening of ‘Talking Sense’ where one of her sculptures was displayed at the Portico Library last year.
Access to computers and the internet, free time to sit and chill, and family who are safe and sound is not a privilege everyone shares. And I am so aware of that.
I continue to think of the inequalities this pandemic is highlighting, and the gaps it is widening. Access to the fundamental elements for a just and equitable life are basic human rights, and yet as BBC newsnight’s Emily Maitlis reminded us, 'The disease is not a great leveller'. If while I’m sitting this week, I can at least read, watch, learn and share ideas about how we can tackle these gaping inequalities, my sitting was perhaps not in vain.
As our fifteenth week on the road drew to a close, and looked ever less like life actually ‘on the road’, I decided to take on the task of subtitling The Hundred Miler.
Initially, the only motivation to create comprehensive subtitles for Broaden’s thirty minute documentary was so that we could enter foreign film fests. And even then, we’d have had it professionally subtitled if we weren’t looking for ways to save money!
And so I naively embarked on what was to become a two-day odyssey involving Artificial Intelligence transcript detection, manually correcting the script, learning about timecodes, downloading .srt files and working to integrate them with YouTube.
The long and short of it is that The Hundred Miler (which also hit a whopping 100,000 views this week) now has complete ‘closed caption’ subtitles which you can use and enjoy on YouTube! But more than that, through conversations with others I realised the importance of subtitles from an accessibility perspective, as a critical tool to help deaf and hard-of-hearing people, as well as those for whom English isn’t their mother tongue. It was a refreshing reminder that we exclude people without meaning to, but that we can also actively include them if we take certain measures.
So that’s it, Week 15 in all its mundane glory. To those of you who are still here, reading my reflections on these strange and tumultuous times, thank you. Maybe this week you’ve been cutting, calling, sticking, sitting and subtitling too, and for that, I salute you.

Real-Life Alternative Uses for Portable Storage Containers
Portable storage containers are often used for something practical, like storing residential or commercial items. They’re great for storing jobsite equipment during construction projects, household items during renovations and for keeping seasonal items safe and out of the way. Some people, however, turn portable storage containers into something more… unique. While we don’t recommend that any of our customers do this (our containers are rented, not purchased, after all), we can appreciate the creativity. Here is a not-so-serious look at some real-life alternative uses for portable storage containers out there:
Standalone Buildings
You could theoretically use a container as-is for a temporary man cave or she shed, but some have also permanently transformed them into standalone, portable buildings. Some companies like the Grass Roof Company even make a business out of it, turning containers into living rooms or breakfast nooks.
Above-Ground Pools
A modern take on the above-ground pools, some storage containers are completely refurbished and upgraded to accommodate water (don’t try this with normal containers, however). Companies like Modpools make these container pools, which are modular and can have features like temperature control, lighting and jets.
Eco-Friendly Bridges
A bridge made from storage containers? That’s what’s happening in Tel Aviv, as an architect firm (Yoav Messer) is using old containers to create a walkway that leads from a popular road straight into a city park.
Playground
In Australia, an architect firm (Phooey Architects) converted several containers into a children’s activity center/playground. Thanks to the sturdy construction of these steel containers, you can bet that they’ll withstand rough-housing from kids!
Food Truck
Hobo Food is a food truck focused on being eco-friendly and leaving a neutral carbon footprint. While their food centers around chicken, their truck centers around the fact that it was converted from an old storage container.
Gardens
Storage containers are even ideal for nurseries or indoors gardens, as they’re ideally shaped for rows of plants and lights. Some companies even carve out windows to allow natural light in, which is ideal for plants as well.
Cities
You can pretty much make any type of building with storage containers, as Container City is trying to prove. They’ve already made “mini cities” with buildings like apartments, administration buildings and marketing suites—all from containers. If you’re in need of a portable storage container—that will be used for storage, of course—give us a call at (972) GET-A-SAM today. Read the full article

Architectural design trends in Swimming Pools
Over the past few decades, there have been major changes in swimming pool design. In the early days, most pools were relatively small and simple, with straight lines and basic shapes. However, as pool technology and materials have evolved, so has the style of pools. Nowadays, there are different pool designs to choose from, and it can be hard to know where to start. Here are some of the most popular swimming pool design trends that you might want to consider for your pool:
Modern look
Many homeowners want to spruce up their backyard by adding or renovating a swimming pool. If you're considering adding a pool to your home, you'll want to be aware of the latest trends in swimming pool design. A modern look is one of the most popular trends in swimming pool design. Homeowners increasingly opt for sleek, clean lines and geometric shapes for their pools. This trend is also seen in other outdoor areas, such as decks and patios.
Tropical Design
When designing a pool by professional pool shop Gold Coast company, there are key trends to keep in mind. Tropical design is one of the most popular choices this year. This design typically features warm colours, palm trees, and other elements that create a relaxed and inviting atmosphere. If you want to add a touch of paradise to your backyard, then a tropical-themed pool is the way to go.
Nature Inspired Swim Spas
If you're looking for a way to add a natural element to your swimming pool, consider a swim spa. Swim spas are small pools that use jets to create a current, allowing you to swim in place. They are often used for exercise and rehabilitation but can also be a great way to relax. There are many different styles of swim spas you can find at pool shop Gold Coast according to your taste and needs. You can even find ones that mimic natural bodies of water, such as rivers or lakes. If you want to add a bit of luxury to your pool, look for a swim spa with features like massage jets, built-in seating, or waterfalls.
Unique Features
A few key features will make your swimming pool stand out from the rest. Incorporating one or more of these unique design elements will give your pool a fresh look that will turn heads.
Water features designed by professional pool shop Gold Coast company are a must-have for any luxurious pool. Whether it's a simple waterfall or an elaborate fountain, water features add a touch of elegance to any space.
Fire features are another way to add personality to your pool area. There are endless possibilities for incorporating fire into your poolscape, from fire pits to torches.
If you're looking for something unique, consider incorporating LED lighting into your pool design by professional pool shop Gold Coast company such as Pool Gear Australia. Whether you want to light up the entire pool or highlight certain areas, LED lighting can dramatically affect any space.
Another trend that's gaining popularity is the use of natural stone in swimming pools. Natural stone adds beauty and function to any poolscape, from flagstone pavers to stacked stone walls.
Underwater Rooms
One of the hottest architectural design trends for swimming pools is underwater rooms. These unique pool features provide a private space for swimming, sunbathing, and relaxing submerged in water. Underwater rooms typically have acrylic or glass walls and a concrete floor. They can be equipped with lights, air conditioning, and other amenities to make them truly luxurious. If you want to add an underwater room to your pool, be sure to work with a reputable builder with experience with this type of construction.
