im a chronic read-ahead-er so i went and read some random chapters down the road and saw some SUS things and some angsty things 🥹 i cannOT wait to have all the context to things
i have some Cambodian books tho i hesitate to read/continue reading bcs they're all Khmer Rouge centric and that's a can of worm I don't like to open 😭 im gonna finish em one day tho... one day
but uh book rec would be the Radiant Emperor duology. not exactly SEA-centric but it's by a Malaysian author. I can't shut up about it. so much gender and sexual commentary amidst the scrumptious fight for the imperial throne of china!!!
also, i read the synopsis of Beauty is a Wound and 👀 it sounds fckd up which is right up my alley lol do tell me what u think!!!
darling Pomi
dropping by to tell u that i just got my copy of The Gift of Rain... thk u so much for introducing me to SEA-centric stories & SEA authors, even if they're not Cambodian lol im always happy to read more works from my region
and always happy to ready suspiciously homosexual novels lol
im only about 50 pages in but they're SUS
can't wait to devour this books~
hi Noona ❤️
I'm so happy you're reading the Gift Of Rain, I LOVED that book 🥂 You have a lot coming in this book yet 😏

Right now Im reading Beauty Is A Wound, it's ... A wild ride
Hope you enjoy the Gift Of Rain as much as I did!

There's an interesting point about Merthur to my earlier post https://www.tumblr.com/pomidorfriend/726940398316126209/god-the-queer-shipping-has-gotten-its-wins?source=share
So I want to ask the fandom. What do you guys think
To be fair I consider it 'canon but leaving space for deniability' because even my dad thinks they're super gay for each other (mind you my dad is a non-shipper and a catholic so it was surprising). Of course I created the second category exactly for ships that have arguable canonity.

Oh yeah definitely a lot of SUS things there 😏 and the angst is 😭
yeah I imagine those Cambodian books would be heavy, especially if it's close to home. I can only really read books about difficult topics like war when the focus is on the relationship between the leads (usually of the homoerotic kind. I am a simple woman 😅)
i Heard about the Radiant Emperor before, gotta add the series to my read list 👌
I'm halfway through Beauty Is a Wound and I must say it's not a book I would usually choose. It's similar in many ways to 100 Years of Solitude (which I didn't much enjoy), there is a lot of crude language and a ton of jarring sexual violence. Most of the book is deeply upsetting in regards to the treatment of women (but I think its also very honest despite its magical nature). Definitely not a book for everyone, though there is something that makes me unable to give it up
