Backstory:

(Prologue.**)

A traveling exorcist, of sorts. He was once a well-respected advisor to his monarch in a kingdom once known as Amaran. But that was before The Blackening... The evil that scorched the very brick and earth itself, tainting the soil permanently and taking the lives of all in the kingdom walls unfortunate enough to be trapped within, leaving nary a trace of what once was, save for an unmistakable aura of some since-passed, lingering darkness of what occurred in that unfortunate land. No one knows who he is for he wears a mask and never reveals his truth... His truth? He caused it. He was the villain that took the lives of his entire, beloved kingdom. All in the name of what was for the best... for the greater good of the kingdom. In the name of prevention of invading forces, in the name of paranoia and fear - well placed, but unnecessary and unwanted. He went against his kings wishes, arrogant enough to think he knew better, and he continued to dabble in magic of the hells and darkness, muddying his own soul in the process. The ritual he conducted in a desperate attempt to gain the upper hand to the rivaling kingdom succeeded, but then... failed. The spell splintered, fractured and became corrupted and in the end... he wound up conjuring forces beyond his control, but because of the twisting of the dark magic, it instead took the souls of all within the kingdom's walls, sapped the life of all plants, people, animals, everything until it was naught but husks and dust and blackness, and his soul became entwined with the very being he sought to control and send to destroy his enemies. His human soul became warped, tainted, and broken in irreparable ways... and now he, the sole survivor and misguided villain of his story, wanders far from what he has done in search of some kind of purpose beyond his unforgivable deeds. The melding of his mortal spirit with the essence of that great demon he sought to summon caused catastrophic damage, and now he must live with it, unable to die by conventional means, and too afraid of what he will turn into if the power he holds on a taut leash becomes untethered from his corporeal body. In short? He is, again, a traveling exorcist now, with those extraordinary otherworldly powers, a monster hunter at times, and a vagrant... The Vagrant. He does not go by his own name and has abandoned all that he once was - unable to face his own truth, let alone the judgement of others. He hides himself in plain sight, nothing but a lone wanderer with a stoic, bitter attitude that never stays in one place too long.

   Maybe there’s a small, helpless uttering of jesus christ or something similar, or maybe that’s just static from the bar’s television, which is only barely getting a signal and shows more noise than anything else. No one has done a thing about it, the place is too dead for anyone to bother, not exactly the place she came for company.

   “Yes, I do.” she still says, despite all that, because even the worst company has to be better than nothing at all. Ebony leans her chin in her hand and looks at the stranger. There’s something off about them and the energy surrounding them, but it’s easily written off ass her buzz finally hitting her. “Now what? You’ve thrown the most basic of pick-up lines at me, you’d better have something to actually follow it up with.”

It’s all very sudden in the way that it happens-- and yet-- sudden as it may be, there is a certain... languid fluidity to the movement. As though this were a natural thing to occur. Natural, for him to trail off mid-sentence, and natural, for him to oh-so-gingerly turn, and reach out to place his hands on her waist, and walk her backwards the few remaining steps to the brick wall of the building they’d idled near. His voice is quiet-- not alarmed or even bothered per say. But rather as though he were... simply mildly inconvenienced. 

A bit of a noise escapes him, and he’s got one hand on her waist and the other resting on the side of her neck. “Follow my lead for a sec.” he murmurs, and that is the only warning she gets before he’s locked his lips with hers in a unexpectedly.. quite passionate kiss. And he sells it. It seems almost genuine, the way his mouth moves against hers-- a socially unacceptable thing in public, certainly, but surely it wasn’t so odd (not that he cared about that). Especially with darkness so quickly falling and night-goers of all sorts milling about.

He lingers for a moment or two, noses near resting against one another’s as he.... listens. Does not look. Not yet. And only when he’s certain (don’t worry about how) that the coast is clear does he raise his head, and take a breath. His hand still absently rests at her waist, and glances to the side in a smile-less way.  

These people were going to be a problem for him.... weren’t they? Hm.. He’s sure that he knew what they wanted. And it was nothing good. Nothing fun. Quite bothersome, actually. He’d have to do something about that. Well.. yeah. Actually, he would in fact, he decides then.  He doesn’t like being sought. He’ll do it later.

Byron takes a step to the side, letting her go from the impromptu embrace. And only when he looks back at her, those odd eyes regaining a flicker of light in them, does that trademark lazy little smile of his melt back into his expression. “Thanks.” he simply says. That at least is genuine. 

She didn’t shove him away or anything-- so she’d helped him with that alone. No apology for it though; he didn’t really see it as a bad thing necessarily. And no explanation either (not that he purposefully withheld that information. It just.. didn’t occur to him as important to share). 

“We should probably move on outta here... you know?” he says, kinda... staring at her a little. “It’s getting dark.”

Max had no idea what the hell just happened. They’d been having a nice time, out for a walk, talking about...well, quite frankly, she couldn’t remember what they’d been talking about anymore. But they had definitely been talking, she knew that much. Byron had stopped in the middle of whatever-he-was-saying and, in seconds, had pressed her against a wall and was kissing the ever-loving holy hell out of her.

She’d never been religious before, but that...that was an experience. She was pretty sure she’d seen god himself, in that moment.

At first, her eyes had widened in shock, hands moving to his chest to push him away---yes, she’d planned on pushing him away like an idiot---but her hands (traitorous, terrible, blessed, smarter-than-her hands) instead curled their fingers into the fabric they found there and pulled him closer, her eyes fluttering shut. She’d gone up onto her toes, one arm looping around his neck, the other refusing to let go of his shirt. 

She would have to remember to be embarrassed about the needy little whine that’d escaped the back of her throat later.

Face red and pupils blown wide, she panted, gasping desperately for air, once he pulled away. That had been one of, if not the best kiss of her life. And he was just...pulling away with a “thanks” like she’d passed him a freaking salt shaker?

“Yeah,” she managed to get out, still fairly breathless, and definitely dazed. “Yeah, no...no problem. Totally. Yeah.”

He was staring. Why was he staring? Her face felt impossibly warmer, but she couldn’t look away from him, eyes flickering to his lips as her tongue ran over her own. Christ, this was bad. “Dark. Mhm. That’s...we should...do that.” Honestly, he could have said anything and she would have agreed---she was still processing the kiss.

“S-sorry... I didn’t want to offend you...“ It was hard to explain, but for Roque, everything was different about this guy, how he moved, how his voice sounded, even how he smelled. And it probably wasn’t even because of his own difference from other humans, it was just his hypersensitivity that turned on all the red bulbs when the other got closer. Not enough to panic, though, but enough to feel alert. And then there were his eyes. Roque saw them just for a second before averting his stare, but he had enough time to notice that their shape, or rather the shape of the pupils wasn’t right, too. Not round enough, as though someone was drawing them with black ink, and it had spread. “I’m not going to tell anyone...“ he reassured softly, “You don’t... don’t have to worry.“

I know these are another ancient relic of a tumblr rpc long past, but I'm doing one anyway. I've had this blog since like '13 and a lot of people have came and went and while that flow can be sad sometimes, I think it's also important to appreciate the now and make memories to look back on later. So, this is me documenting some of (likely not all) the individuals that have made me want to stick around this hellsite for just a little longer and have been a part of my current arc of rpc bullshit.
