SHE'D BEEN KICKED OUT OF THE KITCHEN, and not for the first time this month. But the chef had to turn off the ovens eventually, and Polly couldn't sit still for long. So she paced with her various pastries, before eventually making her way back to the war-room. If she just studied the map a bit longer, maybe things would make sense. Or, at least, she'd be able to make sense of a few of the motions being proposed.

But someone had beat her there it seems. Polly halted in the doorway, somehow still feeling like a little girl caught up past her bedtime. "Commander -- I'm sorry, I didn't realize you were still up." Should she go? Doubtless he had work that needed doing. He didn't need to stop to tutor her yet again.

She's quiet for a moment, not entirely sure how to answer. It's meant well, she knows, but ... Polly was never meant for great things. She didn't need to be. She was happy, in her little cottage with her mother, doing what she could to help small people. Small actions, small mercies.

She missed home. She missed her knit blanket, her cast iron cauldron full of stew... She missed her mother.

But he didn't need to be burdened with that. The commander had the lives of battalions to worry about. Military movements, and supplies. She sighed, and tried to smile at him. Hoped she looked convincing "Thank you, commander. That's very kind." She sniffed, tried to think of something better to say, and failed.

"Um..." She started, and looked down, suddenly ashamed of herself. She'd have to get better at this -- at talking to people. At knowing how to put the right words in the right order. "I'm sorry. You seem so sure of yourself so much of the time. Even when..."

Stop. She was crossing a line. Or wasn't sure enough of herself to say how obvious it was that nobody here slept enough.

"Even when there's a lot on your mind, you seem so focused. I don't know how you do it."

It had to be quite he change for the poor woman. He didn't know much about her, but he knew enough. What she was made her target enough without the claims of her being holy. Cullen wasn't certain if she was or not, but he knew she was the face needed. A symbol. A rallying cry. That gave hope, that gave focus. It was important.

And so, with hand idle on the pommel of his blade, he wandered over to her through the snow, careful not to startle. "---Herald. How are you holding up?"

Effects artist Ralph Miller joins the Grue-Crew to add his experience working on Gremlin’s creature crew, led by Chris Walas, the designer of Mogwai and the gremlins. Though the crew focuses on the film’s effects, they also delve into the cast, cameos, crew, and behind-the-scenes stories.
