POLITIX BREAKFAST

Hollywood star Dacre Montgomery- the face of Politix menswear- unvelled the premium suiting brand's spring/summer collection at Ace Hotel's Kiln restaurant on Tuesday.

Vogue Australia hosted an intimate breakfast panel with the Stranger Things actor, while media personalities mingled over barista coffee, fruit plates, quiches and cupcakes.

The topic du jour was modern masculinity in Australia, with Montgomery speaking to his own experience: "Sensitivity wasn't something that was promated or encouraged when I was growing up.

I wanted to go against the grain, not for the sake of it, but because I was quite unhappy as a kid. "My mum always said just be you, but expressing that was confronting to other young men."

Accompanied by his girlfriend model Liv Pollock, Montgomery said he'd spent four hours in Politix's fabric factories pouring over the new designs and adopting linens and colour into his wardrobe.

The East Coast

Here we go.. Byron Bay, my first stop after spending a lot more time in Melbourne than I initially anticipated, working for an Australian menswear brand with a wonderful team. I was a small part of the team, but I will always associate Politix with my Melbourne adventure. I feel extremely lucky to have had as many opportunities as I did with them. But with my 6 months up, I was very ready to start my travels.

Byron Bay lived up to every expectation, flying up from a big city, Byron was a breath of fresh air, something completely new, with no similarities to Melbourne. We had a busy few days, we ate lots and drank more. The best part, as crazy as it sounds has to be our 4:30am start for sunrise at Cape Byron. It’s a must if you ever visit. After the sunrise, we walked down to Wategos beach where we got a coffee, and walked along the beach bare feet. We stayed at Byron village backpackers.

I was given lots of food and drink recommendations which we were very sure to try almost all. A favourite of ours was Balcony. (Where Holly Willhouby went, while filming I’m a Celebrity). I tried oysters for the first time here. It’s a no from me, so to Amy’s delight she got to finish them. Worst thing I’ve ever eaten.. One evening we took some beers down to the main beach, and again, watched a sunset, golden hour was spot on. Everyone walks around Byron Bay with bare feet, which at first I found slightly gross but by the end of the week I was doing the same.

A little trip to ‘The Farm’. Another recommendation. I got my hopes up after seeing highland cows on their Instagram page but sadly they were too high up in the fields, and with a big sign stating to stay on the paths because of snakes there was no way you were getting me hiking up to see them. But they had a sunflower farm which was impressive.

Here’s a little list of places to visit for good food and better beer. Three ducks, Meze Club, Balcony Byron, Fresh Byron, Stone and Wood Brewery.

Sadly when we went the Stone and Wood brewery was closed, Amy was gutted.. but if you go to Byron, you must must go to a tasting at the brewery and tell me how it was..
