New minor update for Cornbread's Music Fixer! It tweaks a few of the volumes to make things just a little bit more consistent between biomes and tracks, and also– I've finally figured out how I want Creative Mode music to work!!
Links:
Bedrock Style for Bedrock Edition
Java Style for Bedrock Edition
Bedrock Style for Java Edition
Java Style for Java Edition
Changelog:
Bedrock Style - Both Editions
Lowered the volumes of komorebi and yakusoku from 20% to 15% in the generic game event (music.game).
Lowered the volume of pokopoko from 20% to 15% in all biomes in which it plays.
Lowered the volumes of komorebi, yakusoku, and pokopoko from 30% to 25% on the menu.
Lowered the volume of Floating Dream from 20% to 10% in Lush Caves (including unused event) for consistency with other biomes.
Lowered the volume of An Ordinary Day from 20% to 10% in Lush and Dripstone Caves (including unused events) for consistency with Snowy Slopes and the rest of the Caves and Cliffs soundtrack.
Both Styles - Bedrock Edition
Music Discs otherside, Relic, Creator, Creator (Music Box), Precipice, and 5 are now properly controlled by the Jukebox volume slider.
Removed some unnecessary information from sound_definitions.json (basically everything that wasn't a comment or part of an event's 'sounds' array). If this causes issues, please let me know.
[Subpacks 'Default' and 'Remove Swamp Music From Lush Caves' Only] Creative Mode now plays the 12 ambient Volume Alpha tracks in addition to the 6 Creative Mode tracks, similar to how it did on Java Edition before the Caves and Cliffs update.
[Subpacks 'Default' and 'Remove Swamp Music From Lush Caves' Only] Increased the chances of Creative Mode music playing, giving Creative Mode a 50-50 chance of playing either a Creative Mode track or a Volume Alpha track.
[Subpack 'Java Parity Only' Only] Renamed Subpack 'Volume and Missing Music Fixes Only' to 'Java Parity Only'.
[Subpack 'Java Parity Only' Only] All music in the generic game tracklist now also plays in Creative Mode, since that's how it works on Java Edition.
Bedrock Style - Bedrock Edition
Changed the pack description from "Reshuffles music so biomes mostly play tracks written for them and to prioritize C418's tracks. Also makes loud music quieter." to "Reworks music to be less frustrating, prioritizing C418's tracks without completely removing any of the new ones. Also makes loud music quieter."
Removed Echo in the Wind from music.game.lush_caves. Since the event goes unused and can only be played via commands or other packs, it is best that its tracklist be consistent with vanilla.
Changed description of subpack 'Java Parity Only' from "Fixes volume and brings music selection to parity with vanilla Java Edition and nothing else." to "Brings music into parity with vanilla Java Edition with the exceptions of volume and Frozen Peaks."
Java Style - Both Editions
Lowered the volume of Floating Dream from 100% to 40% in Lush Caves (including unused event) for consistency with other biomes.
Lowered the volume of An Ordinary Day from 100% to 40% in Lush and Dripstone Caves (including unused events) for consistency with Snowy Slopes and the rest of the Caves and Cliffs soundtrack.
Java Style - Bedrock Edition
All Music Discs now play at full volume like on Java Edition.
Changed the pack description from "Reshuffles music so biomes mostly play tracks written for them and to prioritize C418's tracks. Also makes quiet music louder." to "Reworks music to be less frustrating, prioritizing C418's tracks without completely removing any of the new ones. Also makes quiet music louder."
Removed music.game.lush_caves. I've decided to revert it to vanilla, and removing it from the pack is the best way to do that.
Changed description of subpack 'Java Parity Only' from "Fixes volume and brings music selection to parity with vanilla Java Edition and nothing else." to "Brings music into parity with vanilla Java Edition with the exceptions of some volume tweaks and Frozen Peaks."
Both Styles - Java Edition
Instead of playing all music from the generic tracklist on top of its own, Creative Mode now only plays the 12 ambient Volume Alpha tracks (as well as the 6 Creative Mode tracks), similar to how it did before the Caves and Cliffs update.
Increased the chances of Creative Mode music playing, giving Creative Mode a 50-50 chance of playing either a Creative Mode track or a Volume Alpha track.
Java Style - Java Edition
Pack no longer completely replaces music.overworld.frozen_peaks just to add One More Day to its tracklist. If this causes issues, please let me know.
Bedrock Style - Java Edition
All Music Discs now play at half volume like on Bedrock Edition.

A track-by-track thoughts post on the "Minecraft: Pixel Genesis" remix album, like what I did with the Minecraft Tetris album.
Also for the record, I listened to parts of of the original unremixed ones to get the gist before listening to their remixes (with the exceptions of Creator and Precipice, which I listen to a lot).
Featherfall (Hyper Potions Remix) - How is this the same song? I mean I guess I kinda hear it, but like. The original one is slow and ambient, meanwhile the remix feels almost like a track from an RPG. Very nice, though! I'm not too fond of the weird voice clips or whatever.
Watcher (Synthion Remix) - I like that the intro is sort of a chiptune demake of the original track, and then it kinda sounds more like something from an SNES game, before doing the sort of "bwawawawawawa" sound some music uses. You'd know it if you heard it. Also random out-of-nowhere pop at like 1:40. I like how it gets a bit more chiptuney in the background towards the end. Pretty good, even if it's the kind of music I don't normally listen to.
Puzzlebox (AIKA Remix) - The original kinda sounds ominous but calm. This remix is kinda. Not that. Honestly I don't really like this one much. Especially the random mob noises in the background.
komorebi (AIKA Remix) - I really like the unremixed version. It feels like a classic Minecraft track, all calm and piano-y, with nice ambient windchime noises as well. I am starting to cry a little bit. The remix has a nice intro that's, like, synthy and melancholic, but then it goes kinda a bit more intense and yeah I like this one!
pokopoko (Synthion Remix) - Going from the calm and slightly melancholic original version to this remix is kinda interesting. It has a kind of "end credits" feel to it that I really like. Also the chiptune aspect is fun!
yakusoku (leon chang Remix) - Damn, Kumi Tanioka's Minecraft tracks are really nice. I want to cry again. Waaah. The remix is. Fine? It kinda feels generic maybe??? Don't have much to say. Next track!
Infinite Amethyst (Snail's House Remix) - Why is Minecraft music so nice? Uhhhh anyway getting distracted. This one feels the most like what I think of when I hear the word "remix", like at the start it still sounds a bit like the original track, and then the actual remixy bit sets in and it's pretty good! Yeah.
Deeper (Elliot Hsu Remix) - Oooh, another chiptuney one! It almost feels like. You know how there are like "Smash remixes", like remixes of game music that's put in Smash Bros.? Yeah this feels like it could be one of those, like if Steve appears in Smash 6 I can totally imagine this track being in there.
Eld Unknown (Elliot Hsu Remix) - Very nice! A tiny bit closer to the kind of stuff I usually listen to. Also has a very epic feel to it!
Endless (Anamanaguchi Remix) - The original version makes me cry. That's unrelated to the topic at hand but I just wanted to say that. The remix is great! It kinda reminds me of like. Tyrian 2000. Like with the bouncy synth and adventurous tone.
Creator (leon chang Remix) - Creator is my second-favourite track on the 1.21 soundtrack! And I love the remix starting out as the actual intro before getting bitcrushed and transitioning into a more electronic version. If the original version of Creator sounds like the theme for a friendly but eccentric inventor, then this version sounds like the theme for a friendly but slightly-unethical mad scientist. Also zombie jumpscare. 10/10 remix!
Precipice (Hyper Potions Remix) - I love Precipice. It feels like JRPG final boss music. But this remix is just kinda. Fine? Like it sounds more like music that would play in a high-tech city in Pokémon or something.

So I just listened to the new 1.21 Minecraft Soundtrack and everything about it is incredible. Wow wow wow. Endless’s callbacks. Pokopoko’s clicky clacks. Creator’s literally freaking everything (both the normal and music box version. The music box version reminds me a LOT of Ib, intriguingly enough)
Just. Argh. Wowza. They knocked it outta the PARK with this one.

week 8 independent
Task 1Reflect: Have a look at your responses to the independent study from week 7, how did this weeks class discussion deepen or help develop and expand your initial understanding? You could write about this in a sentence or two, or you could go back and add to your original notes.
well it did and didn't, catherine and holly chatted about how we just need to be really careful about appropriation and sharing knowledge that isn't ours. Need to think long and hard about our positions as New Zealanders and how we can incorporate the ideas but not colonise them. Which in a way sounds quite difficult to do - lots of nuance to this subject because there aren't huge rights or wrong in the world of design there is just acceptable and unacceptable - without being a part of the culture who the knowledge belongs to it's hard to know when is too far - but I guess one of the easy ways is to acknowledge who we are making it for and why.
Task 2 Research your topic and find 1 academic resource from the library or online — Don’t forget to try out the discovery and research advice.Read what you have discovered and sourced — make notes. (about 2hrs)
Clive Aspin, 'Hōkakatanga – Māori sexualities', Te Ara - the Encyclopedia of New Zealand, http://www.TeAra.govt.nz/en/hokakatanga-maori-sexualities/print (accessed 22 September 2023)
this is a nice little piece of writing about maori sexuality - it goes over traditions to do with sexuality, ways this is expressed through songs and art. it also goes into historical examples of same sex relationships and things that happened when the settlers arrived in nz. It also talks about contemporary nz, ideas, acknowledgements, and projects. It's quite short but it gives really good starting points for historical information.
basically it starts by talking about how open maori were with discussing sex and sexuality - with some quotes from Hinepuariari, and Rongomaiwahine, both which I cannot understand fully because I don't know old timey english
Hinepuariari; ‘Kāore hoki tērā te hanga o taku tāne, kāore e rūpeke mai ana, takoto noa mai te nuinga i waho.’ (The remarkable thing is that the treasure of my husband could not be admitted and the major part of it was obliged to remain outside.)
Rongomaowahine; ‘Nā te mea anō rā he kōpua pāpaku, mehemea e taka mai ana ki te kōpua hōhonu a Rapa e tuhera atu nei, pokopoko ana ia ki roto.’ (It is because it is a shallow pool; should it have fallen into the deep pool of Rapa (her father) now opening towards him, it would have been lost out of sight.)
another thing gathered from folklore is the story of Tūtānekai and Tiki. - Tūtānekai refers to Tiki as ‘taku hoa [my friend] takatāpui’. The term takatāpui was defined in the Dictionary of the Maori language compiled by missionary William Williams (1844) as ‘an intimate companion of the same sex’.
sexuality is also present in song and carvings such as a waita composed for a young man named Papaka Te Naeroa, who died in battle. It describes him as ‘Ko te tama i aitia e tērā wahine e tērā tangata.’ (A youth who was sexual with that woman, with that man)
then there are also carvings that have the sexual organs on them, so the gender of the ancestor can be known there is also depictions of sexual acts such as A papa hou (carved box), in the British Museum, depicts male figures having sex.
then we move onto maori sexuality upon european arrival - viewed from an outsiders point of view because there are accounts from visiting sailors about what they observed and saw and thought such as; Māori chiefs would often have more than one wife. Except for puhi (high-born women set aside for a political marriage), sex before marriage carried no stigma - a French explorer; Julien Crozet said, ‘[Māori] gave us to understand by signs that we must not touch the married women, but that we might with perfect freedom make advances to the girls.' then a naturalist Georg Foster said; 'Their ideas of female chastity are, in this respect so different from ours, that a girl may favour a number of lovers without any detriment to her character; but if she marries, conjugal fidelity is exacted from her with the greatest rigour.' which is in a way backwards to theirs, in western society it is believed that no woman have sex with any man until after she is married, from whence onward she would only be able to have sex with this one man to whom she is married. - going off of this maori also believed it important that children born outside of marriage be raised within the tribe to gain ancestral knowledge from their whanau about their whakapapa, tikanga and te reo maori.
an historical example of new settlers cohabiting in same-sex relationships with Māori. The most well-documented example is the Reverend William Yate, an English missionary. His relationship seems to have been accepted by the Māori community but it was frowned on by his religious peers. Richard Davis observed that ‘[they] showed no shame. They simply declared that they were unaware of any sinfulness in such practices and that Yate had not initiated them.’
then we move on to the influence, sexual attitude of maori changed due to what the missionaries imposition of a code of conduct based on victorian concepts. such as; sexual behaviours is to only occur between a man and a woman within the parameters of marriage and for the purpose of procreation.
the imposition of these ideas led to some pretty drastic attempts at removing sex adjacent things in carvings and karakia. Sexual organs in carvings were often covered over or removed. Waiata and karakia, which often had explicit language in them, were often censored/changed. Europeans collecting Māori traditions often censored them. John White, a collector of numerous Māori traditions and stories, noted, ‘Nearly all my best tales are tainted with indecency’
contemporary society
Nowadays in a more open and willing society the term takatapui is being reclaimed as it acknowledges both the sexual and cultural aspects of one’s identity, and has both contemporary and traditional connections with the Māori community.
It is important to note that the term takatāpui embraces transgender men and women. As is the case with many indigenous peoples throughout the world, transgender people hold a revered position within Māori society. Transgender people play an important role within both the takatāpui community and wider Māori community as holders and transmitters of ancestral knowledge.
Task 3Read: This task prepares you for next week. Read the following and make notes:Lu, Rose. “All Who Live on Islands.” The Pantograph Punch, 3 September 2018.

It's time for Organic Design
Hey hey! I’m back again :)
Same vibes, different concept: Organic Design
I decided to address this concept as well, since I had chance to heard about it in my university in Milan for the fist time.
Starting point: Organic design is a mixture between man-made buildings or manufactures and Natural environment.
We’re going to explore more deeply into architectural design side reconciling with a sustainable approach.
Organic design is a kind of mission born to emphasize balance in the human-nature relationship. The organic style is a major feature of mid-century modern design and architecture, a movement that emerged in the United States from the 1940s to the 1960s.
Following natural principles, organic design tends to facilitate human interaction through meaningful and functional objects. The intent is to make the entire experience effective and enjoyable.
There are many features we could highlight:
Minimalism in terms of materials, natural textures and neutral forms, lines etc.
Neutral and muted colours to give the idea of reflecting earth and nature components
Open spaces aim to suggest the sense of freedom as in the modern-style approach. Living in organic modern homes means feeling the outdoors inside and bringing natural elements inside.
Simple materials like natural wood, rattan, jute, seagrass, and others. Designers complement these with other simple materials, like concrete, glass, steel, and cast-iron.
At this point, I would like to make the concept more concrete by talking about a virtuous project born in Italy: Krill Design
Strengths:
100% biodegradable: Rekrill is the patented biomaterial to create their own design products from orange peels and coffee grounds.
Circular economy
Minimum environmental impact: production process by choosing 3D printing
Cooperation among local communities
Let’s have a look at Krill Design works:
To conclude, I’m gonna leave other interesting examples that I found browsing around (most of them are chairs and lamps🤔):
I hope you enjoyed the content, I look forward to uploading more! Feel free to leave comments and ask anything if you like🌹
