The Pokémon World
So, I’m not going to lie, I love Pokémon. Its just such a good game! BUT, one of the main problems with it is that people are STILL having problems trying to create a map that stretches across the entire game. Well, Nintendo forgot one thing. I. Am. Fucking. Unstoppable. So I set out to determine the EXACT size and mass of the PokePlanet.
So we first need to know the shape of the PokePlanet. This is easy, since we know it has gravity, and we can tell that its a sphere from this shot right here: https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/File:PokemonWorldAnime.png
So we know its a sphere, but how BIG of a sphere?
Well, using pixel measurements and in-game measurements, we can determine that the radius of the Pokémon Planet is only .88954 kilometers, which is TINY! I’m going to save you the math and counting on all of this, just know that I used these images and you can do them if you want:
https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/File:Unova_B2W2_alt.png
https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/File:Unova_world_map.png
But what if we want to find out the mass, density, and gravitational force of the PokePlanet?
So the first thing we need to do is determine the gravitational acceleration on the surface of the planet. How do we do this? Well, in Pokémon Heartgold, in the ice path, the player can FALL through holes. So knowing that Ethan has a canon height of 1.49 meters and mass of 40 kilograms using the holes in the ice path assuming that the height of the room is 3.74 meters (2.5x the height of Ethan) we can use a stopwatch to determine that it takes approxamentally .4284 seconds to fall, and using the formula G=(d/t^2)/.5 we get a gravitational acceleration of 40.82 meters a second squared, which is FUCKING HUGE!
Then, knowing the acceleration and mass of Ethan we can conclude that the Pokémon planet exerts a force of 1633.39 Newtons (40.82*40), which is just fucking INSANE. On earth, he would only experience 392.89 Newtons (((6.6740831*10^-11)*(5.9736*10^24)*40)/6371000^2).
So then knowing everything we need to rewrite F=(G*m1*m2)/r^2 to determine the mass of the planet we can use the equation m1=((F*r^2)/G)/m2. Filling in all of our values, we get a planetary mass of 484,066,617,443,515,626.9 kilograms. Which is absolutely SMALL. That’s one 12340450th of the mass of the EARTH!
Then knowing the radius we can determine it has a volume of only 2.94 kilometers cubed, and then knowing the mass, converting all of our units and dividing the mass by the volume we can determine that the PokePlanet has a density of 162175.99 g/cm^3.
Just for fun we can determine that the Schwarzchild Radius of this planet would be .7 nanometers, or that we could fit about 1050 empire states into the planet, or about 2000 roman coliseums, but none of that matters and I’m tired I’ve been researching this for literally over 5 hours by now so please give me likes bye
Oh, by the way Bulbapedia, FUCK YOU WITH THAT “It bears some striking similarities with the real world“, and “The Pokémon world looks and acts like the real world“, and “the Pokémon world is about the same size and same distances from its sun as the real world“ BECAUSE IF IT WAS THE MASS OF THE EARTH IT WOULD HAVE A GRAVITATIONAL ACCELERATION OF 503834393.94 METERS A SECOND SQUARED AND IF IT HAD THE VOLUME OF EARTH IT WOULD HAVE AN ACCELERATION DUE TO GRAVITY OF 0.00000000000000000000006578 METERS A SECOND SQUARED HA FUCK YOU!!!!!
Cough, sorry about that, its just that I spent like 3 hours puzzling over this because bulbapedia was WRONG, so I’m kind of pissed.
Bye now.

Poke-planet is having a halloween drawing event! So I had to draw something. This is Synthia, an OC of mine, trick-or-treating with her party of Pokémon. She’s dressed as a witch and has a pumpkaboo-shaped candy bucket. Brooke (frillish) is carrying a bag for Pokémon-safe treats. Her other Pokémon are Witence (murkrow), Soulda (misdreavus), Seth (shedinja), Gertrude (spritzee), and Val (zubat).

So can you fly in Pokémon?
So i was just kind of browsing the internet when I saw this image right here: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4FBKsOPQdeg/ThvT6C1PByI/AAAAAAAAAEA/ZS0-gtucIfA/s1600/spearow-fly.jpg and at first I just kind of laughed it of and thought it was funny, but then I looked CLOSER. And as you can probably guess from the title, it had to do with the mechanisms of bird pokemon flying in pokemon and HOW they would work SCIENTIFICALLY!
So, uh, yeah we’re going to be talking about fucking aerospace engineering and shit and I am NOT an aerospace engineer so if any of you smart people out there see anything wrong with my math and shit correct me please.
So I’m going to use pidgeotto in this example because I could not for the life of me find a satisfactory image of pidgey.
So pidgeotto, it only weighs like 66.1 lbs, but it an somehow transport a FUCKING HUMAN that weighs 1.3 times its own weight. No. Just fucking no. That's not how this works. OR IS IT??? Surprisingly, yeah, it is in fact possible.
So we’re going to be using the lift equation to determine just IF it's possible for it to fly., So the lift equation is L=CL((p*V^2)/2)A where L stands for lift, CL stands for lift coefficient (some sciency thing), p stands for the air density, V stands for the velocity of the object, and A stands for the area of the wing. So first of we’re going to want to talk about velocity
*Deep breath*
So using pixel measurements and the canon size of ethan and MORE pixel measurements we can determine that the distance from the pokecenter in Goldenrod city to the Mahogany Town pokecenter is 418.6823 meters using pixels and the Pythagorean theorem and then knowing that it takes on average 4.05765 seconds to fly there on the back of a pidgeotto we get a final speed of 103.183 meters per second or 371.46 kilometers per hour.
So we next want to determine the area of the wings of pidgeotto which using pixel measurements and the canon size of pidgeotto (1.0922 meters) we get a wing area of 0.1406595 meters squared.
So the next 2 variables are where we kinda don’t know. So we assume that the air density of the Pokeplanet is the same as of that on Earth (1.2kg/m^3) and just for the heck let's give our flying bird (with passenger) a lift coefficient of 2.5, which like, NO. I mean this thing is definitely not THE MOST aerodynamic thing ever, but just pretend. So now we just plug in our values (2.5*((103.183^2)*1.2)*.1406595) and we get a value of 2246.345891 Newtons. Now, that value most likely means nothing to you. So we should probably figure out how many Newtons we would need to hover, which is 2857.514707 Newtons (40.827827992*69.9893026, using the gravitational acceleration from the last post and the combined mass of pidgeotto and ethan). So we still need 611.168815 Newtons. Now, there are only 2 values that we can alter to get those extra 600 Newtons, the lift coefficient and air density. Of course, we can’t alter the lift coefficient because we would need a lift coefficient 3.2(Using (((2857/.14)*2)/1.2)/(103^2)) which is just NO. Nope. Not fucking possible. So that means we have to alter the air density.
So modifying the lift equation for air density we get p=(((L/A)/Cl)*2)/V^2 so plug in all of our values and we get a final air density of 3.18kg/m^3 (Using (((2857.514707/.1406595)/1.2)*2)/103.183^2 assuming that the actual lift coefficient of our object is 1.2). And honestly that's not that bad of a stretch.
So yeah, flying in Pokémon IS actually possible! All it takes is an air density of 3.18kg/m^3, which isn’t honestly all that bad.
