Well~ My entry to the Pokemon TCG Illustration Contest 2024 didn't make it in BUT I'm still really proud of it. I think I managed to utilize CSP pretty well There's a multitude of things that couldve caused it to not make it to Top 300 and believe me I've catalogued all of them, but I'm glad I participated. In the meantime, definitely go check out the guys who did make it here!! *

Okay…so i decided to post these art that were supposed to be for the pokemon illustration contest. I thought that both lacked a sense of narration (bidoof has a stronger one I think) and thematic connotation. As much as I like the koraidon one, I thought that going with an original background would show more story and thought. However, I enjoyed drawing the background though, area zero is so pretty. I am proud of these artworks, but I do think that they were not compatible with the contest expectations.

since i didn't pass the first round of judging i can post the piece i made for the pokemon tcg illustration contest! with six months of hindsight, i wish i made something a little less amateurish, but oh well :P

i had fun throwing my hat in the ring at least

not to say i don't like how this turned out, i just know i could've done better. i still struggle with really spending a lot of time on a piece and pushing to make it as good as possible, but i'll work on that for next year!

So... Pokémon has officially revealed the Top 300 quarter-finalists for the TCG illustration contest. I myself have participated, but unfortunately, did not make it. There were many awesome artworks!!

However... there has been a suspected case of an individual who entered with multiple identities (similar initials) through AI generated entries - V.K shows up in 6 entries. The weird and unnatural proportions, position, angle (look at vaporeon for instance) all give away indications of AI too.

The rules have clearly outlined multiple identities to lead to disqualification, yet the judges failed to take account into the suspicious number of similar styles appearing more than three times (surprassing the maximum number of 3 entries) with the initials.

"The rules in the contest affirmed that: submissions must be submitted by the Entrant. Any attempt, successful or otherwise, by any Entrant to obtain more than the permitted number of Submissions by using multiple and/or different identities, forms, registrations, addresses, or any other method will void all of that Entrant's Submissions and that Entrant may be disqualified at Sponsors' reasonable discretion."

This is very disappointing, Pokemon TCG. Not even just disappointing, this is very shameful and distasteful to artists who did not make it.

Edit: There also seems to be 2 more entries that are ai prompts but under a different name (pikachu sleeping with a background night landscape and another one sleeping on a tree root)

UPDATE: on Twitter pokemon tcg actually addressed the issue, has disqualified the person with multiple identities and will be selecting more entries from other artists!!

My entries didn’t get chosen, and I’ll likely enter again when this contest resurfaces.

EDIT 2: There was another Ai piece that was caught and I took a look with a buddy and was sad to have to delete another piece off this list.

But I looked through the others and can't find anything that screams Ai, so hopefully these 6 are good.
