Started playing Pokemon TCG 2 GR or whatever it's called, really fun game, I'm horrible at card games but this game is easy enough to understand. I really like the female protag's design, there isn't much art of her, I thought she was wearing a clock in her character portrait, so I gave her one lol. Also spent a lot of time owning some kid in the rock gym grinding for a Kingler, felt like Bandit Keith so I drew that too lol.

So I've been playing Pokemon Trading Card Game for Gameboy on the Switch (for nostalgia) and my husband recently made me a really rad deck that just demolishes/stalls EVERYTHING in its path. Psychic/Ghost pokemon are so OP in the OG TCG.
Anyway, I drew fanart of the deck because it's been so fun to battle with in that game.

Lineup for the deck below the cut
I'm going to list the Cards and in which packs you can get them:
Cards from the Colosseum packs:
A29 - Abra - x4
A30 - Kadabra - x3
A39 - Professor Oak - x1
A39 - Bill - x3
A48 - Potion - x 4
Cards from the Evolution packs:
B35 - Haunter - x2***These may be replaced with the Haunter from Laboratory, they are in my deck to get more ways to Gengar. Replace with Laboratory Haunter if you have enough!
B36 - Gengar - x2
B48 - Gust of Wind - x4
Cards from the Mystery packs:
C35 - Alakazam - x2
C49 - Energy Removal - x2
Cards from the Laboratory packs:
D31 - Gastly - x4
D32 - Haunter - x1**If you have more, use up to 3 of this Haunter instead. It is FAR superior to the B35 Haunter from Evolution. It does damage while putting the opponent to sleep, AND has a wildly OP PokéPower.
D34 - Mr. Mime - x2
D35 - Mewtwo - x2
D47 - Pokédex - x1
Energy Cards:
Psychic Energy - x23
Basic Strategy is to get out at least 1 Alakazam on the bench to manipulate health and keep your main pokémon healthy, two Gengar out for manipulating the opponent's health with the Poképower Curse (one lead for extra damage on the bench with it's main attack, and one benched so you can use Curse twice per turn), Kadabra for coverage against those that resist psychic types (it has the highest base power attack in the deck at 50). Use D32 Haunter to stall cards out, and Mr. Mime to further stall the opponent's evolved Pokemon. Mewtwo has a good HP pool to sacrifice damage to, but is also good in a pinch when the opponent has a lot of energy cards attached to their pokémon. Alakazam's power can be used however much you like during your turn, just don't forget to remove damage from your lead every turn.
A little note I've noticed about the game's AI: If Mr. Mime is in the lead the AI will NEVER evolve pokémon. They do this likely so that it can continue to hit Mr. Mime for 10 or 20 damage (which is the only way to hit it unless you have a way to nullify its Poképower.)
The AI also likes to use Chancey (if it has it) as a wall to counter to this deck, but Gengar using its main attack hits bench pokémon for resistant-proof damage AND you can move it if you need be using Gengar's Poképower. Generally if you encounter this problem you should refrain from using Bill/Professor Oak to keep from running out of cards. This deck is INCREDIBLY good at stalling if used right and I've won about 25% of my battles through running my opponents out of their decks rather than taking prizes or knocking out pokémon.

FINALLY.
So this achievement, by design or by chance, is actually really interesting to me.
Tumblr media
So Axel/Eiji's deck is basically just a wiggly wave deck with "standard" heavy hitters like Hitmonchan / Scyther / Magmar instead of stall mons like I usually go for (like Licky / Snorlax / Tauros / Chansey).
And on its face the achievement is pretty good. He wants to build a bench. Defeat him by only attacking his bench.
There are a good amount of options for this actually; But uh.
I lacked some key parts and didn't feel like farming cards right now lol
So I went with Big Thunder.
And Big Thunder is almost directly countered by this deck (in terms of the achievement) lol
THAT is why I think it's "unintentionally" interesting.
It's also just directly interesting! But in terms of HOW it counters Big Thunder to become much more challenging is interesting and probably unintentional by the achievement creator since they weren't also the dev lol
ALL of Axel's pokemon have 70 or less HP, EXCEPT for Wiggly.
So if you're going for Big Thunder like I was you're going to have to either roll the dice and risk it every turn, or gust of wind his Wiggly IN- which is what HE wants- and is DANGEROUS lol
But at least then your big thunder doesn't risk killing the active pokemon- unless he then leaves it in with 10 HP and you're back to rolling the dice again 🙄
But yeah! I thought it was neat because it made me use Pokeflutes and I even ended up tossing in some clefairy dolls as a potential switch target if I had excess energy on hand and needed to stall for some healing on Zapdos.
The dolls didn't really come into play on my winning run- mostly just some nicely timed gust draws and stalling until his bench was a good target, but it was fun to try to make this incorrect deck choice complete the achievement lol
Also, just like every time I play either of these games, infinite shout outs to @pkmntcg4gbc for their in-depth info on these games and the various character decks.
Because I did, indeed, reach a point where he had 3 wiggly's discarded and I had to check to make sure he had 4 in deck, only to then realize "OH NO!" he could still have one as a prize but still, the info was core to some of my tough calls like 'do I keep stalling or roll the dice' lol
