Eyyy, I'm out of my peak KanJoh brainrot atm, but Pokemon is Eternal. And yeah, Let's Go Green 👀 Best Christmas gift EVER, when I heard it was gonna be focused on the LGPE kids, I thought it was a loss, but it was in fact: the biggest WIN ever. SHE IS LITERALLY THE COOLEST!!! I CAN'T BELIEVE PEOPLE JUST SHAFT HER CHARACTER LIKE THAT?!?!? She's that player who skips an area and returns there absolutely over-leveled and SWEEPS through it RE: Nugget Bridge scene. Just oozing so much Shounen protagonist energy, like is there anything more Shounen than seeing a huge crevice in a cave and going zero hesitation, "yeah let's leap over it" AND THE CREATIVITY, THE IMPROVISING FOR FLIGHT, using Victreebel to swing over and just :D the entire time, the surf battle with Blastoise. There is a balance between her being brave and wild, in the rivalry, while still being capable of fear and concern for herself and her Pokemon, it was so reckless to run towards Blastoise when Mewtwo was launching that attack! She's fierce in battle, but knows how to calmly accept a loss too, and she's so darn cute with her mannerisms!!! In the Japanese Version Trace even calls her "nee-san" (big sister) yessss let her be their questionable almost-adult supervision, and the CHIVALRY, helping Trace in return after he helped chase away the Zubat. Running into a Gravelor and just, SLIDING ACROSS THE GROUND DRAMATICALLY, she did that more than once. I know half the fandom thinks Green and Leaf are separate characters but...Pokemon Multiverse, there's technically two different kinds of "Red" too, the black and brown haired one. And both "Green" and "Leaf" are adapted from the same prototype Kanto girl, their clothes are the same colors just reversed, Leaf's figurine merch is featured with Squirtle, Gengar, and Clefable. So to me, they are the same person in different realities! I'd be happy to talk to you more about Pokemon and KanJoh, but I'm pulling an all nighter for work and lost time to this ask already 😅 Next time then, yeah?
oh my gosh i didn’t see this bc i was so busy with hmwrk stuff but you are so right. Warning this is a lot of rambling thoughts, but just in case a tdlr: I love green, n I just wish ppl saw n utilized her potential a lot more and better
LGPE was a big win for Leaf/Green enjoyers, and Evolutions was even a bigger win that was literally such a banger episode, i’ll probably rewatch it pretty soon after i post this, she’s so cool and there’s literally so much for Green that came from that episode.
Green in Evolutions reeks of Shounen Protag energy, And Leaf was literally a protag at one point in time. She’s tricky n resourceful. She takes the loss at the end with dignity and still being able to joke about. She’s my favourite interpretation of the Gen 1 unused Female since even when not in a true protag role they utilized her potential, she’s a bit reckless but skilled, she’s resourceful and strong. (ik ppl complain she’s not like spe green and while she is cool it makes sense a gameverse green would be different)
I cannot see her with the same personality and exact same journey and steps as Red, But she should not be underestimated as a Champion of Kanto, Even if she’s put in a rival role like Blue, she has her own strengths and her own journey. (imo if ppl see her the same as Red that’s alright, they are equals, i just personally like to see her personality different)
Her personality isn’t set in stone since it keeps changing per universe but she has so much potential. I love Green/Leaf for that, not enough people utilize it. Maybe she’s extremely lucky, maybe she plays into the more resourceful side of pokémon battling and traveling, maybe she’s a avid grinder/trainer, she’s the worst mentor u can find, from just the little snippets of her personality we get there’s a lot to know and wonder who she really is and who she can be.
While i’m mainly talking about her as a separate character, she can also blend well with the Kanto Trio in the original story as a third parallel and rival on the journey
(I do get where ppl come from when she’s the glue, esp bc of masters, but i personally dislike it a lot I believe Greens/Leaf’s journey would have rises and falls like Red and Blue’s. I feel like she learns and grows from mistakes and victories along side them.)
i get a bit upset when she ends up pushed to the side, Masters she didn’t appear at all in the villain arc, even though in the PML arc she brought the three together, her story is rarely talked about, and sometimes it feels like her only purpose in masters is fill the empty slot which is rlly unfortunate, bc in Victory Road some of the potential for a pretty good Kanto Trio Dynamic shines through. (My sillies) (Unrelated but i adore the Battle Leaf/Red/Blue theme so much)
I’ve seen some Fandom do this too, They boil her down to “Wingwomen” or the “Glue” when she is and can be so much more, plus these labels make her feel isolated from the group as a whole. (Idk how to explain but imo it does)
She can be a Champion or a Rival (Red can be a rival too when she’s protag you guys are just cowards) She can have personality, the story doesn’t have to stay intact, Green/Leaf can complete a missing part in said story. I just hope eventually people start utilizing her potential
Idk if i’m making any sense sorry, but I could ramble so much more on Green/Leaf’s potential (I wrote a 3000 word essay on her that’s prob better then this post but would need to be revised more if i ever put here) and i could ramble about Kanto trio and their dynamics for a while too. I hope eventually i can get my interpretation of her and her journey (+hc’s) down eventually.
(I like to combine the universes/interpretations of Leaf/Green (N Gold/Ethan and Red/Fire) for convenience, but i do think they are separate universes/interpretations but same character. (except kris and lyra, they both exist and they are best friends))
(stan LGPE/Evolutions Green)
#pokémon#pokemas#kinda#trainer leaf#Trainer Green#Kanto Trio#I pick n choose from masters when it comes to my interp of her <3#blank posting#I love this look at evolutions Green#Let her be a Protag and a Rival#And let Red be a Protag and Rival#Pokemon is canonically multiverse let them take turns#ahhhh writing this may have sucked me back into big time Kanto Trio brain rot#I should eventually write down my interps of gen 1 n gen 2 protags but im also being lazy cuz they already exist in my brain#rambling tags whoops

POKEMON RED VERSION ENTRY 004
Previously on my last adventure- after beating Brock, i went further to Mt. Moon. There, i managed to catch a few new mons'. They are Zubat, Paras, Geodude amd Clefairy. Geodude the only viable to be the next on my team, since i don't have Rock and Ground type yet. Clefairy is very hard to encounter.
Before exiting the cave, i need to battle a Super Nerd to obtain a fossil of my choice- either Helix Fossil or Dome Fossil. I chose the latter because its gonna evolve to Kabutops, the cooler looking one.
After exiting Mt. Moon, i caught an Ekans, a new Pokemon in the area. Then i entered Cerulean City. This is where the Second Gym located.
I need to move further in order to battle Trainers to gain more experience. Battled 5 trainers back to back in the Nugget Bridge, to obtain Nugget in the process. Nugget is a precious item since it can be sold at high price in PokeMarts, helping out my financial situation hahaha😂
But totally forgot, before i went to the Nugget Bridge, my rival Blue encountered me again for another battle! His team now has more variation in type, but their overall level were a bit low compared to my team. So naturally, i wiped his ass with his Pokemon.
Next, I'm told that around this area there will be Abras and Oddishes, which I'm planning to put them on mu team? Can't wait!

Pokemon part... 4? Maybe?
Once I got to Lavender Town you open up some more exploration, although much is to dead-ends - the Pokemon Tower, the southern Docks leading back to Vermilion, etc. My session was mostly exploring.
I elected for Pokemon Tower first, even knowing I could not get past the boss there. Lavender Town is legitimately as screwed up as you remember, and is legitimately spooky as shrine maidens attack you while possessed by evil spirits. The ghosts cannot be comprehended, and you are forced to run away - a rare act of intentional disempowerment of the player, and something important in horror.
You know, early Pokemon has this assumption - not everyone seems to use Pokeballs exclusively. Some people tame their Pokemon like animals. Bug Catchers use nets and cages:
Bird Keepers use birdcages and falconry tactics
And channelers? They appear to legitimately just be possessed by ghostly spirits
Fascinatingly, they actually never appear outside of Red and Blue. And in the context of this game, they are the shamans who tend to Pokemon Tower during a time when the spirits are restless.
...Anyways, I was a little disappointed to learn that all I really got was a nugget. I would have placed a good TM right near the top so a player could explore it and be rewarded.
Also, the theory about the Rival's Raticate dying seems not true. He actually mentions that he's there for a Marrowack, iirc - he even has a gap in his team for it. I have heard the theory he joined Team Rocket on Nugget Bridge, and although I don't feel like that is the intention, going to the tower to look for a Marrowack actually does sound like something that tracks given the activities of Team Rocket in the area.
Anyways, I hunted around for a few Pokemon. Got to Celadon. And opened a path to Saffron - consider the sandbox unlocked

oki bc i'm a giant pokemon nerd i compiled a bunch of references that stuck out to me ehe (spoilers below, but i tried keeping them to a minimum)
The pose the MC does when they attack during the event is the same pose that Pokemon trainers use when they call their Pokemon back into their pokeballs
"Trotter, use tackle!"
Most of the random NPCs you fight start and end their fights with random one-liners, like the random trainers in Pokemon
Music for the event is very similar to Pokemon music
The two IPC NPCs that constantly stalk you sound almost like Jessie and James. Also, have some weird obsession with the trotter, like Jessie and James with Pikachu
The robo fish's burst being useless like Magikarp with splash
Victory Zones are set up like gyms, with random trainers spread around and easy puzzles to solve, with the "gym leader" fought at the end. Also, leader rewards something similar to gym badges
The very first NPC in the first victory zone talks about how you must battle when you lock eyes, which is constantly brought up at the beginning of each Pokemon game.
There's a kid in the first victory zone that talks about how their robo fish was given to them by their dad. In the fourth gen pokemon games, there's a kid you fight that talks about how their Magikarp was given to them by their dad.
The fourth Victory Zone has a walkway with trainers on each side and one final trainer at the end of the walkway. This references nugget bridge from the first gen Pokemon games, a long bridge with Pokemon trainers on each side of the bridge that you have to fight, followed by the last one at the very end of the bridge
Giovanni being the boss of the last victory zone references Giovanni being the last gym leader from the first gen Pokemon games.
The first victory zone and the last victory zone both being in Belobog references how in the first gen Pokemon games, you essentially need to make a giant loop. One of the first cities you visit at the start of the game is Viridian City and the very last city for your last gym badge is Viridian City.
The final tournament being similar to elite four fights followed by the champion. Also, arena setting could be seen as a reference to gen 8 Pokemon's champion tournament but this feels like a stretch lol
The secret boss being a giant reference to the secret boss (Red) from second gen Pokemon games. In order to fight Red, you must beat the elite four and champion, trek up a giant snowy mountain and reach the peak. The secret boss for HSR says "..." when you fight them. Likewise, Red's Pokemon battle starts with "..."
This last one is slightly more spoilery for the secret boss:
Red is the default name of the MC in the first gen Pokemon games because one of the first Pokemon games was "Pokemon Red". Pokemon Red has a Charizard on the console. Charizard is a fire type. The secret boss that is supposed to represent Red in HSR uses the fire element.
i love that this aetherium wars event is just a giant pokemon reference, the two ipc ppl even sound like jessie and james and i’m assuming the third guy that never talks is supposed to be meowth lol
also the music for the event is very pokemon and i LOVE it

I think Red would be able to win any argument if he want. Like, he never talks, so the person would be just really uncomfortable and let him win anyway
#the rocket guy at the nugget bridge is proof of that#but i think blue would win an argument with red#since he's one of the few people that actually have conversations with him#besides oak#but i don't think he would start an argument with a 10 year old#he's too coward to do that#pokemon#pokemon red#pokemon trainer red

Pokemon Yellow Exploration Run Part 1
Hehe. I really wanted to try it, so... here we go. Divided into parts because the grinding parts take up a lot of time and I don’t want to do all that in one sitting.
Here we go again.
So the Yellow Version’s opening shows Pikachu surfing. And if I recall, if you do have Pikachu with Surf, the overworld sprite uses the surfboard Pikachu...
And same for Fly. We shall see... perhaps. Let the experimentations commence!
It’s only fitting, then, that my name is Dr. Red.
And the rival is just some schmuck from the hick-town of Pallet.
... What happens if I just choose to leave immediately instead of picking up the Eevee ball...
Ah. One of the very few times the game stops you from going off of the beaten path.
Subject Alpha is prepared. But the equipment is not. So for now...
... Until all of my stuff is up and ready. Huhuhu...
Grinding away for a Butterfree for the totally-Rock-type-Gym whose first guy doesn’t even have a single Rock type, AND future uses!
Beat Brock, rush to Cerulean, skipping as many trainers as possible, force my way through Nugget Bridge, forget that I used up all Confusion PP while in a fight against a Hiker who has 3 Geodudes, and...
Well. Some things never change. And now Butterfree has fulfilled its mission, which was to Sleep Powder an Abra for Teleport for this glitch abuse.
Beat up Misty by Transforming into her own Starmie, and then fight my way to Vermilion City, and skip Lt. Surge!
And now that I got HM01 from a captain who got seasick on a ship that hadn’t even left the harbor yet, now I get to see the ship leave. And it will never come back. Or so you’re told, anyways. We’ll be back.
Technically there’s a glitch-proof way of getting back here without the ship leaving, which is to throw a fight and lose onboard SS Anne so I get teleported to the Pokemon Center, which then skips the scene where the ship leaves, therefore no one stops you from coming back here. But that’s boring and requires me to throw a fight. So... no.
Now to go to a gambling hall where a kid is apparently allowed in, that’s very clearly operated by the yakuza of this world. It’s even called Rocket Game Corner.
Giovanni. The First Chairman of the Rocket Clan. No dynamic intros or epic boss theme in this 2D not-animated game.
With the Silph Scope here, I can go to the Pokemon Tower, get a Pokeflute, wake up and murder a couple of Snorlax by getting Mew to Body Slam (TM08) them, and rush to Fuchsia City for the Safari Zone. All with only two badges. ... And I realize that without beating Lt. Surge, I don’t get the Thunderbolt TM, which is a huge detriment. AND I don’t get access to Fly, which I do need for Cinnabar Island shenanigans. But that’s a future problem.
So. Enter the Safari Zone. Immediately try to leave twice. Save. Reload. And turn back around to leave and...
The game no longer realizes that I’m already in the Safari Zone. So if I just leave and wander around somewhere, 500 steps later...
I’m stopped by a magical PA system in the middle of nowhere and recalled to the Safari Zone. Leave the building again and...
Welcome to Glitch City. Population: you. It seems that this iteration of Glitch City doesn’t have a lot of exploring room. Sometimes you can go far enough that all you see is water, and if you open up the menu, you’re standing on water. But this time, no. I’m only permitted a tiny area for movement.
Looks like the game’s time maxed out thanks to Glitch City. It was at “9 hours” (thanks to the 10000% boost on the emulator) before going to the city, and now it’s maxed out. ... And of course the max time is 1 minute less than 256 hours. Always 255 in the old games, since that’s the maximum number you can fit in 2 digits of the Hexadecimal system (FF = 255, 100 = 256). That’s why in RGBYGSC, there are 255 Pokemon data slots! But in RGBY there are 151 Pokemon, leaving 104 Missingnos! And in GSC, with 251 Pokemon, there are 4 glitch Pokemon slots. ... I guess 3 slots, since an egg takes up one of them.
And I see that the game tells me which Gym I should be challenging one after the other. I physically can’t access Blaine without Surf... unless I can levitate. ... I will be experimenting that next.
For now, time to enjoy an activity in Glitch City.
Looks like there’s nothing in this iteration. I guess the game used the Cerulean City’s Gym water asset for this spawn. The first time I came to Glitch City, I caught a Tentacruel. Which is why in my actual games, when I RNGed a Tentacruel, the nickname I gave it is GlitchCity.
Well, to get out of this city, all I need is Fly... oh. Well, good thing I still kept Abra for Teleport. Time to Teleport to the last Pokemon Center I’ve been to, realize that I did NOT go to the center in Fuchsia City, and warp back to Lavender Town! ... F*ck. I have to walk all the way back there again.
Next time.

Leaf Green part 3: Forward Planning
I just hopped down the ledge from Mt. Moon into Cerulean City. There will be no backtracking, for at least a little while. Eliza got very close to evolving, so I have been keeping her at the back of the party for a bit. It feels a little too soon for her to evolve, if only because I haven’t designed a Charmeleon gijinka form for her yet.
Oh, there it is. Got her to hit level 16 in the rival fight right before the Nugget Bridge. Congratulations, Eliza! You’re a Charmeleon.
Eliza’s best friend right now is Nikita, a Mankey. It’s typical to pick up a Mankey outside of Viridian because they’re useful in the Brock fight. I’m hesitant to keep Nikita on the team, because I had already reserved a championship slot for that sacrificial Machop. I probably don’t need two fighting types. I also have a champion Primeape in my Fire Red, so I’d like to train something else for variety. But I also don’t want to separate Eliza and Nikita just yet, because they work together well. I’m probably going to draw them together.
Something else occurred to me today. I’m running through Leaf Green in order to get a starter and a legendary beast for my Fire Red/Sapphire Pokedexes. If I’m going to beat the game with Eliza on my team, she’s going to be a Charizard by the end of it. If I want Charmander and Charmeleon marked as ‘owned’ on my other games, I’ll need to breed her at least once.
So now I’m going to start looking for a suitable mate for Eliza, which is WEIRD because she’s a day old. Or maybe she’s 23 years old if I’m going with my crazypants deleted headcanon. It’s also weird because I already decided this was a girls-only playthrough, with the exception of the one Machop, which does not share breeding groups with Charizard. I’ve looked through the eligible breeding groups (Monster and Dragon) and the best looking candidates are Dragonite or Tyranitar (you can get these in postgame). But I'm going to try not to micromanage this too closely.
I have yet to work out the ethics of breeding gijinkas. I’m constructing a magical world limited only by imagination but I’m struggling to imagine a world where my human pets will consent to making offspring (sometimes clones!) on demand, at my convenience. This premise is just WAY too crazy. At least for now I want to assume that all my Pokemon have been forming strong, healthy consensual relationships with each other without me having to lock them in the daycare together.
Weirdly enough, the one romantic pairing that sort of clicked organically for me are a pair that can’t breed. Tortoise the Blastoise and Topanga the Meowth have adopted kids and Ditto-kids.
So I guess this Leaf Green cartridge is going to become a dating sim. I’ll be sizing up every eligible male encounter as Eliza’s potential future husband. I mean, no, she’s going to be pursuing all these romantic interests on her own, haha. This is normal.

Second rule is that I can only use Pokémon of the runs type, as soon as I get one. In this case, however, that was not possible. Because Abra only knows how to skeet out of a battle using Teleport. So I needed to train it into it evolved! I called it Moshu Shi, which is Chinese for Sorcerer and I thought, that fits pretty well. With the newly acquired Kadabra I managed to defeat Misty pretty well.
#pokemon#Red#psychic#challenge#monotype#Beating the rival was really a dozy#Had to train Wartortle a lot so I could get through him and Nugget Bridge#Abra ain't easy to reach#But holy guacamole#Kadabra is strong#Like really strong#This is gonna be easy

Pokemon Red Part II
Alright, having got to Cerulean, I continued my journey
Misty is difficult - and my aces, Ratata and Nidoqueen, die to her quickly. I found I could use Bide on Nidoqueen in order to kill Starryu easily, but she does indeed have an all-out assault when using Starmie as she claims. If Brock is all defense, her ace is all special attack and with a limited selection of options it is difficult to get around.
I elected to go through Nugget Bridge first, which was no issue with my powerful pokemon. Go For The Eye's hyper fang is continuing to pull weight. I used the opportunity to up Pikachu - the only super effective vs Misty pokemon.
While I was up there, I decided to go on a little side quest - Hunting down Abra. Pokemon is clever with it's random encounters and your desire to collect and experiment will lead you to these things; Abra's gimmick is that it only learns teleport and is a rare encounter. Thus, to get it, you have to chase it down repeatedly. In this respect, random enemies can tell stories and add depth to the journey. In the end, I snagged it with a well-placed Thunder Wave from Pikachu, followed by a pokeball while it was paralyzed. Curiously, the area also has Kakuna. I decided to snag one and raise it to a Beedrill since it's easy enough to do. Beedrill... Needs some hand-holding, it seems.
Once that excursion was completed, I managed to squeek by Misty. The trick I ended up was another Thunder Wave from Pikachu, cutting it's speed enough that Starmie could no longer sweep my team. Misty always starts with a X-defend on her Starmie, giving me just enough time to nerf that speed stat and halt her assault. She wasn't overly hard once I was able to do that. Once again, Pokemon Red rewarding creative gameplay
Heading to the south, I ended up in Vermilion...
I did some more side quests. First, I found an in-game trade - Spearow for Farfetch'd. Farfetch'd comes as DUX, an outsider pokemon with enhanced XP gain. To my shock, DUX is really good! Peck is 35 damage with STAB, a cut above a lot of the basic attacks I am still using. He also gains both Leer and Sand Attack, allowing him to debuff enemies before striking - I've had him dance around enemies without being hit for an entire battle. For the point of the game you get him, his stats - fairly laughable in other generations - make him bulky enough to take on enemies of higher level. And he gains power FAST as an outsider. Contrary to everything I assumed as a kid, DUX is actually a great addition to my team. Second, I went and acquired a bike.
Then, I went Pokemon Hunting through Diglette's Cave. At the far end, I found a trade - Abra for the Mr Mime, MARCEL. I elected to go for it - I don't particularly want to raise up Abra, in the end, and have never tried Mr Mime. He's a low level, but should raise fast And on the way back, I found something pretty interesting - A Dugtrio, 9 levels above my highest party member. It took more than half my team, but I managed to catch it, too. So, I should be set for a while - though I may have some other trades to do before-hand.
