notes:

the highest tier is not up there because these movies are good. hoopa fucking sucks and it's the worst movie. it's just really funny. kyurem is up there because the chase scenes are goofy as hell

power of us tier is called the power of us tier because pokemon the power of us is literally the best pokemon movie. in this essay I will-

also, the power of us tier is Weird, because all of those movies have their own reason for being good and you can't really put one over the other well (power of us is good as a movie movie, victini is good as a movie about ash, jewel of life is good as a pokemon movie, and latios + latias is good as a pokemon anime movie) (none of those made sense but I promise they do)

jirachi isn't a bad movie, btw, we just didn't really care about it. not in a hate way, just in a "insufferably indifferent" way

btw arceus and the jewel of life and arceus chronicles are swapped. not our fault the covers are so similar 😞😞😞

arceus chronicles is here despite it being a 4 episode long special and not a movie; because journeys didn't really get a movie for itself, this is the closest we got, and it's about the length of a movie anyway

honorary mention to distant blue sky, since it's a standalone special episode in the M20-M23 continuity and there aren't any other episodes in that continuity. It would go in the oh bell yes tier for me because I think the implications and ash father lore drop in that episode is crazy

anyways heres my tier list of all the movies i've watched thus far (i watched black and white first for nostalgia and went completely off the deep end btw, thats why those movies are here)

(list under the cut, there will be spoilers for movies 1, 2000, 3, 4ever, white, genesect and sword of justice)

1. The First Movie / Mewtwo Strikes Back . it made me very sad it was so much more upsetting than i remembered . also Mew was there and thats one of my favs soooooo

2. 4Ever / Celebi: A Timeless Encounter . Literally the cutest yet most gut wrenching shit ive seen ao far in a POKEMON MOVIE. Sam is one of my favs hes so sweet <3 bonus points for Suicune btw !! Suicune was always a fav when i was younger and now i know why

3. White - Victini and Zekrom . get cold loser THEY FR GOT ME I THOUGHT VICTINI LEGIT DIED but it didnt it was all fine. I felt so bad for Ash that must have been fucking terrifying dude☹️ but its ok they all got macroons at the end

4. Genesect and the Legend Awakened . the runt genesect was so cute i loved it Also congrats to Mewtwo for its transfem transition im so proud of it🥳

5. Kyurem vs. the Sword of Justice . Virizion stays winning🗣️🗣️🗣️ also kyurem chasing keldeo around made me giggle a bit im so sorry

6. 2000 . The fourth wall break at the end killed me . Team Rocket coming to help Ash was so sweet <33 i have to admit i might have to rewatch this cus i was like half asleep when i did but Lugia is one of me and my brothers favs so WOOHO . Lugia's one of the chillest mfs out here next to Suicune love that for it

7. Pokémon 3 . What was even happening in this movie😭. Anyway, was NOT expecting childhood trauma/grief to be handled in a POKÉMON MOVIE but they did do a fair job at it in my opinion. The entire movie was legit insane and let me tell ya i was NOT expecting deliah to get FUCKING KIDNAPPED?? BY ENTEI???? but you only live once ig so good on her (spoiler alert i do not like deliah very much...!!! )

Tail Gush: Mewtwo

So this is a series where I just gush about a character’s tail because I’m WEIRD and why not make my first one about the pure embodiment of perfection that is Mewtwo’s tail. By its design it’s a weird, design that takes away Mewtwo having a pelvic or even a butt, and yet it works, so, so well! On top of that his tail is a perfect mix of long, and thick! I also really like that his tail is a different color from the rest of his body as it really makes his tail stand out, There’s two pieces of Pokemon media that I consider peak Mewtwo tail, one of them being the movie Genesect and the Legend Awakened where I am just OBSESSED with how his tail is animated in said movie. I get easily distracted by it, especially in shots like these.

Another one is smash, where Mewtwo uses his tail for practically half his moveset, if not moreso. The tail is also notorious for its hitboxes which I personally think contributes to how good of a tail Mewtwo has for it to have ridiculous hitboxes.

His tail just looks so good to me, it always stands out in images like these because of both it’s color and it’s length

Anyways, Mewtwo has peak tail for me. Perfect, length, perfect thickness, him using it is always a plus it’s just a perfect tail and I would change nothing.
