3rd Poirot film A Haunting in Venice filming on location
Kenneth Branagh, Tina Fey and Riccardo Scamarcio were spotted filming the upcoming Agatha Christie adaptation on January 6 and 7 2023 in Venice, Italy.
Branagh was also seen filming at the Clock Tower in Piazza San Marco, and later with his double taking a ride on a police gondola through the canals. Branagh appeared in a navy double-breasted coat, striped blue suit, white shirt, red silk tie, black leather gloves, Homburg hat, carrying Poirot's iconic cane and a book about Venice.
Corriere del Veneto (via Italy24) reports the cast will be shooting in Venice until mid-January. "There will be filming on the water with stage gondolas, vintage boats and 1950s taxis." Other locations mentioned include Campo San Giacomo dell'Orio (a square with a church), Conservatorio Benedetto Marcello (music conservatory), San Samuele (church), Palazzo Malipiero (palace), Campo San Boldo (square near the famous Rialto Bridge), etc.
Based on Agatha Christie's novel Hallowe'en Party, the film is set in post-World War II Venice on All Hallows' Eve. Now retired and living in self-imposed exile in the world's most glamorous city, Poirot reluctantly attends a séance at a decaying, haunted palazzo. When one of the guests is murdered, the detective is thrust into a sinister world of shadows and secrets.

List 5 things that make you happy, then put this in the askbox for the last 10 people who reblogged something from you! get to know your mutuals and followers💖
aaaaahhh, tank you tank you i havent done an ask game in yonks
apologies for the overt sincerity, you've caught me at a tender moment haha
Choosing an LP from my shelf, sliding it from its sleeve and blowing the dust off it. Opening my record player, setting the needle playing and twiddling with the pitch dial to get it just right. My record player has terrible sound quality but theres something about the experience of it all that makes me feel very calm.
Talking my friends through things I think when I'm reading a paper, just the silly bits or things I thought were inadvertently funny and barraging them with screenshots. I don't really know if anyone else enjoys it haha but I don't think I'd have nearly as much fun doing research otherwise.
When I need a hankie out and about and I have one of my silk handkerchiefs on me! Theres a bit in Cranford where the narrator talks about little ideosyncracies or silly little economies people are unproportionally attached to, like re-using scraps of paper from letters they get. I get like that with napkins and wipes, since I really hate the feeling of my fingers being greasy or sticky if I'm not prepared for it! So I'm always proud as punch whenever I have a napkin when it's needed, or a lemony fresh wipe (I steal em from my local burrito place) on hand in my coat pocket.
A new knitting project that's a little challenging to me! I try not to work or play games after about 10pm where I can possibly avoid it to keep my sleep regular, so I like something to knit over a midsomer murder or a poirot, and to keep for when I'm on the bus. Getting to a point where I can do something proficiently that I used to find really challenging is a great feeling- and I've still got a lot to learn!
Watching bizarro films with my little sister! Recently she has been coming to visit me at my uni, and we spend our evenings together watching films that she chooses. She's a bit of a film buff and has very eclectic tastes so they're often a little out of my comfort zone but I always have a great time!!!! Recent hilights of her film picks would be 'Noroi: The Curse' (scared the absolute pants off me), Serial Mom (its a John Waters film and just. so much fun) and Psycho Beach Party (with Charles Busch in one of his classic drag roles- if you're looking for a romp that's also very queer give it a try). At the moment we're watching Top Boy but every few episodes I have to watch something more chilled because its very intense...
Well there's five things for you! Thank you for sending this round @cap-sweet-and-salty-sadness! It's important to think of the good stuff in life ;)

Detective coat
Tumblr media
Me: SAME.
Brother: She’s got the right color coat on, but it’s not quite a detective's coat.
Me: She probably needs a coat that can serve both as daily outerwear but can also transition into detective work, so this is it. She's got kind of a neutral Dick Tracy look going on.
Brother: Next time she should come as Sherlock Holmes.
Me: She should serve up a new detective look every time she goes anywhere: Sherlock Holmes, Miss Marple, Poirot, Arsène Lupin, Columbo, Encyclopedia Brown, Matthew McConaughey in True Detective, Daniel Craig in Knives Out.

Chapter Four - The Library
Roman entered the town theatre hall, butterflies in his stomach. He knew that once he got on stage he would be perfectly fine, but right now he had pre-audition nerves. He held the flier for the audition and a sheet with his details on it. The local theatre company was doing Wicked this spring and Roman wanted nothing more than to be a part of it.
He sat down where instructed by the young lady sitting at a table and looked around. About 20 or so other people were waiting, all with sheets like the flier instructed. There were a couple of women about the same age as Roman, several men who looked a lot older than him and a few other people, young and old. Roman waited patiently until his name was called, nerves building in his stomach.
He always had a decent amount of confidence in his acting, and this was no different. He knew once he got up on stage he would be fine. More than fine, he would be fantastic. He took a deep breath to calm his nerves.
When his name was called Roman got up and entered the audition room. It was a large room off the hallway, opposite to the main theatre space. In the middle of the room there were three people sitting at a table. The lady in the middle gave him a large grin, the man on the right nodded at him kindly and the woman on the left gave him a small smile. Encouraged by this, Roman handed them his sheet with his details and the pianist his sheet music and then began to sing.
As Roman sang, all of his nerves began to melt away. He always felt the most confident when singing or acting, or just being on stage, and this was no exception. He made his way through the song with minimal mistakes and left the audition room feeling rather exhilarated. The lady at the table in the hallway said the casting list would be up in 7 days and that he would also receive an email letting him know if he got in. Roman left with a smile on his face, his confidence boosted by his performance. In this moment he didn’t care whether or not he got in, or whether he only got ensemble, it was a joy to perform again after the stress of moving.
Roman walked through the town, wrapping his coat around himself more firmly as a chilly breeze swept through. He caught sight of the local library, somewhere he had been meaning to check out ever since he moved here, and thought that now would be the perfect time, as a respite from the cold.
Roman entered the library and was immediately hit with the warmth from the building and the smell of books. It was his favourite smell in the world, and if he could bottle it he would. As it was, he tried to savour the scent as much as he could. He took off his coat and tied it around his waist to avoid overheating, and started to peruse the shelves. Roman could never get enough of books. He had always been an avid reader, devouring books when he was younger as a way to escape the horrors and hardships that plagued the real world. He loved being able to disappear into different worlds, to be able to join in the battles alongside his favourite characters, to watch the journeys of the people in the stories, to believe in the magic of worlds other than his own. Roman’s imagination was his limit and it was fuelled from the stories he read and the plays he performed.
Roman let his finger run across the spines of the books on the shelves. This library had a surprisingly good selection, and he saw a bookshop near the cinema that he would have to check out as soon as he could. He picked out a couple, and then a couple more and more and more. He knew he might not be able to get through them all before they were due to be returned, but he didn’t care, for the more the better. He couldn’t see where he was going over the pile of books he had in his arms and so it was inevitable he would bump into someone. Luckily the man he did bump into was very kind, and helped him pick up the books that had fallen out of his arms.
“I’m so sorry,” Roman said for about the fifth time as they picked up all of the books on the ground. The man just smiled.
“There is absolutely nothing to be sorry for. These are a lot of books, I am not surprised you bumped into someone.”
“Still, it was rather rude of me to bump into you and you have my sincerest apologies.”
“It’s cool, but I will accept your apology,” said the man with a chuckle. He extended his hand for Roman to shake. “My name is James.”
“Roman.”
“What a name! It is very nice to meet you Roman. So, I can see you like reading.”
“Yeah! Reading and acting, basically anything that can help tell a story. I love being able disappear into a world other than our own,” Roman said, smiling enthusiastically.
“You like acting?”
“Like is a bit of an understatement. I live for it. There is nothing I love more than the thrill of the stage. Sorry, I don’t know why I am telling you this.”
“No problem. I love acting as well, so I get it. It is very nice to meet a fellow actor. There were some auditions this week for a new show, did you go?”
“Yes I did! I actually just came from an audition. I gave it my best shot and even if I am just ensemble that would be fantastic. I think it is really cool that there is a local theatre community here!”
“I auditioned as well, so maybe you and I will be in a show together.” James handed Roman the last of the books. Roman smiled.
“Looking forward to it!” he said.
The two men stood up, Roman now holding all of the books he had dropped. “Here, take my bag to put the books in. We don’t want you bumping into any more strangers do we?” Roman gave a slight chuckle and took the bag that James had offered him. “Thanks.” James gave Roman a small wave, and Roman watched him go, a smile on his face. Roman turned around to continue down the aisle and almost bumped straight into another person. Except this person was very familiar. “Logan?”
“Oh, Roman, hello.” Logan greeted. “Weren’t you going to an audition?”
“Yeah, I just came back from it. What are you doing here?” Roman asked, then realised that there was really only one main reason to come to a library. Logan gave him an accordingly confused look, evidently thinking the same thought, and gestured to the books on the shelves. “Right, that was a stupid question. Ignore that. Anyway, I didn’t peg you for fiction type, nerd.” Logan gave an amused laugh. “I’m not normally, but I thought I would at least look at the selection. I came here to see what astronomy books the library had. Unfortunately, that particular section is particularly small, but I did find a couple of books I found interesting. I must admit, I am a bit surprised by the amount of books you have there, but you have mentioned an interest in reading in the past. Do you have a bag for those books?”
“Yep.” Roman responded, showing the bag in his hand. He placed the books on the ground and starting putting them in the bag. “Reading has always been my passion. That and acting. I just love being able to escape into another world!”
“Interesting. I love books for the information they are able to convey. Fictional works have never really grabbed my attention in the same way, but it would make sense that someone like you would like them,” Logan stated.
“What do you mean someone like me?”
“Well, you have tendency to be dramatic and over the top and you look and act a bit like you came straight out of a Disney movie. I was merely observing that way you act means that an assumption one may make about you is a love of fiction, specifically fantasy, although I could be wrong,” Logan said calmly, as if the whole matter was simply a case of obvious deduction.
“I mean, you aren’t wrong. I do love fantasy, and Disney is a passion of mine. Have you by any chance read any murder mysteries?”
“No. Why?”
“You are giving me serious Sherlock Holmes vibes at the moment. I have a feeling you would like them. Especially Holmes, but I am sure you would probably like Poirot. Here,” Roman said, walking down the aisle towards the crime and mystery section. Roman picked out a couple of books and handed them to Logan with a smile. Logan took them and read the blurbs of each. “These are some of the best detective novels I have read. The Hound of the Baskervilles, one of the most famous Sherlock Holmes books, which I think you will enjoy. Then we have The Murder On the Orient Express and The Murder of Roger Ackroyd, both Hercule Poirot books by Agatha Christie. These are two of her best, although And Then There Were None is said to be her best work, although I prefer these two. Anyway, I think you will enjoy these,” Roman finished, with a smile on his face.
Logan gave the books consideration. They couldn’t hurt to read, and detective novels were generally rooted in science and logic, two things he loved. He nodded, and Roman gave him an enthusiastic smile. The two checked their books out and walked back home in the cold, carrying their books with them.

Tagged by the lovely @akai-coat
Rules: tag nine people with excellent taste. (pfffft)
Colour(s) I’m currently wearing: Grey, a different shade of grey, a darker grey, and black. Pale blue socks with orange foxes on them.
Last band t-shirt I bought: Picked up a Harry Styles t-shirt when I was over in Boston and at his concert because I was buying one for @akai-coat and I thought a spot of memorabilia from my holiday wouldn’t go amiss.
Last band I saw live: Harry Styles at Hammersmith a few weeks ago.
Last song I listened to: Spirits by The Strumbellas. I love this song so much, and like a fucking idiot I left my headphones on my desk at work so had to commute home noise-less.
Lipstick or Chapstick: I love lipstick but I’m a bit shit at remembering to re-apply. However, I got a gorgeous present today from @theboycanthelpit and there were three new lipsticks in there and I love her a lot. I get chapped lips a lot but mostly I just buy lipsticks.
Last movie I watched: Some nonsense made-for-Netflix Christmas movie which was so gratuitously terrible I watched every second anyway.
Last 3 TV shows I watched: Poirot, more Poirot, bit more Poirot. Got a couple of box sets from the charity shop. Strictly Come Dancing. Probably Holby City. Maybe Emmerdale, although I’m not really watching that too much at the moment.
Last 3 characters I identified with: lol sometimes I think if I answer this question it would be like opening a door to my fucked up psyche and just wailing COME ON IN AND SEE THE INSIDE OF MY HEAD. It’s probably obvious.
Book I’m currently reading: Radio Girls by SarahJane Stratford, Royal Assassin by Robin Hobb, The Hanging Tree by Ben Aaronnovitch, and an awful lot of 1D fic. I got a book on Nudge Theory which should technically be useful for work.

for Poirot Café’s SS#24: scarf, and my other favourite (and ludicrously underrepresented) characters.
[ previous △ next ]
(AO3)
The scarf comes a gift from Kan-chan.
...insofar as "gift" equates to an elegantly wrapped box she finds on the morning of her second day at the prefectural headquarters, looking rather out of place on her desk amidst the (already accumulating) paperwork.
She doesn't even need to open it to know what's inside – the delicately embossed logo alone is hint enough. And given that she remembers having mentioned it as her favourite brand over one of their recent dinners...
It's a luxury item, more than she could ever afford on an officer's salary (or even now as a detective), and he's just left it sitting on her work desk.
Typical.
Honestly, Yui thinks she could wring the man by his neck sometimes. Kai-senpai would agree, no doubt.
Luckily, it's early enough that the office is still mostly empty (at least of people who aren't staring blearily into their coffee cups in search of wakefulness), so Yui covers the box with her coat as she sets her bag down and starts up her computer. Kan-chan might be able to get away with his reputation for flouting rules or ignoring them entirely, but Yui's fought tooth and nail for this position and she fully intends to stay.
She's just about to start reading her new emails – which hopefully includes the coroner's preliminary findings from the murder case they'd received yesterday, or Kan-chan (well, Yamato-keibu) will start breathing possibly literal fire – when there's a voice from behind her. "Already at work, I see, Uehara-keiji?"
Yui turns to find the other inspector holding two takeaway cups from the nearby cafe. "Ah, Morofushi-keibu, good morning!"
He nods briskly, and sets one of the cups down on her desk. "I thought I would spare you from experiencing the breakroom coffee this early on, but I see Kansuke-kun has bested me on that front."
"That..." Yui trails off, then realises that a vague outline of the box is still visible under her coat. "Oh! Yes, I found it on my table this morning."
"Honestly," Morofushi-keibu mutters, almost despairingly, so they're clearly in agreement there. "I did offer my assistance with any plans he had, but I needn't tell you how that went. Let's hope it's at least a passable design."
"I'm sure it'll be fine," Yui answers, carefully avoiding thoughts of the scarce few times (disasters, more accurately) that they'd let Kan-chan pick his non-work outfits without supervision. "Thank you for the coffee, and please look after me from now on!"
"It's nothing. I intended to congratulate you yesterday, but I got called out on a case." He pauses. "Also, I quite assure you it runs both ways now."
Yui blinks. "Eh?"
"With you ar–"
(The words are interrupted by a very familiar outburst from Kan-chan's slightly ajar door: "–t do you mean, you haven't got a cause of death yet? Do I have to wait for those bodies to dissect themselves? One–")
"–around, as I was saying," he continues with a pointedly raised eyebrow, "at least one of us might actually get work done around here. So I'm counting on you as well, Yui-san."
She definitely doesn't manage to stifle her laugh this time. "Understood, sir!"
Morofushi-keibu smiles faintly before heading off to his office and leaving Yui to her work.
Which is just as well – she might be an expert in Kansuke-wrangling, yes, but he's going to have her head all the same if he catches her slacking off, and talking to Koumei of all people would definitely qualify.
So Yui puts the box away in a drawer for later, takes a generous sip of the coffee (strong and black, just the way she likes it), and starts her second day as a detective.
(Kai-senpai will be proud to hear it, she thinks, making a mental note to call him later over lunch – and this time she'll make sure Kan-chan gets on the phone too, even if she has to blackmail him into doing it.
Yui still has photos from his last fashion fiasco that she's quite sure he doesn't know abou–
– oh god, she hopes it's not one of those garish samurai prints he'd really been into at one point. Even tartan would be better than that.)
.
(The scarf is tartan, as it turns out, a pattern of pale colours on velvety silk that she wouldn't have picked for herself but looks... surprisingly good, actually, given Kan-chan's dismal track record.
Morofushi-keibu agrees after a long moment of consideration, and Yui ends up having to break up another of their arguments somewhere in between – but really, she thinks, she wouldn't have it any other way.)

look its almost 2am and i wrote this on mobile in less than three hours so there are probably errors but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
(in case it isn't Obvious, this takes place ~6 years prior to canon, aka before Kai's death)

Overdue
This was requested ages ago by @irish-rose-24 and I’m so sorry it took so long to get to! It’s very bad and I’m very sorry 😐
73 I’m stuck! Help me! 97 Take off your shirt
Warnings: Cursing? Sarky Jug and Reader. Bad grammar probably
Jughead the absolute genius thought it would be a great idea to investigate down by Sweetwater River at 11pm on a Saturday night, to follow up on a new theory he had on the murder of Jason Blossom. Of course, you didn’t want him going down there that late on his own, so you tagged along. “Jesus Jug, what are we even looking for? We’re out here at 11pm and it’s dark and you still haven’t told me your theory!” You said as you pulled your coat up further around your neck. “Jason’s body was found about half a mile south down the river and he must have floated downwards so I’m looking for any clues on the left bank for a mile up, bullet holes in trees and the like.” Jughead explained, scanning a tree with his flashlight. Betty and Jughead had been working on the Jason Blossom case for the Blue and Gold for about a month when you had joined into a conversation at lunch about it and from that moment had and been recruited to the paper and joined them in their sleuthing. You and Jughead had been friends for quite a few years and for the majority of those years, you had been totally, hopelessly, completely in love with him. So when he had text to say he was headed to the forest at 10pm in the pitch dark; of course you were coming. “Hey Poirot, what do you think this is?” You call to Jughead as you find an odd patch of ground. Inspecting it closer, you get on your hands and knees and poking it a bit. The leaves looked a weird texture so you leaned in closer and next thing you knew the ground beneath your hands and knees had slipped from under you and you were falling. Hitting the bottom of the hole you had fallen into with a thud, pain radiated through your body. “Jug! C’mere!” No answer. “Jughead!” Nothing. “Forsythe Pendleton Jones III!” Using his full name always got his attention. “Y/N? Where are you?” You heard him coming closer. “I’m stuck! Help me! There’s a hole in the ground so watch where you’re going!” You said as the light from the flashlight and Jughead’s face came into view above you. “Well what are you doing down there Y/N/N?” Jug smirked down at you. “Oh just chilling, wanna come down?” You snarked “It’s one of Doiley’s fucking traps for hunting with the scouts. It’s not deep, but I can’t climb out.” Jughead’s arm reaches into the pit to pull you out as you step on your tiptoes to catch his hand. “It’s no good, I can’t reach you. Is there anything down there to step on to boost you up?” Jughead looks at you worriedly. “Oh yeah! Look! There’s a stepladder, let me just get it!” You snap at him. Your feet are soaked from the rainwater at the bottom of the hole and there are spiders everywhere. “Okay smartass. Calm down, we’ll get you out. We’ll figure something out, let’s face it, this isn’t the most difficult situation you and I have found ourselves it.” He laughs down at you. Jug was looking around fro something to reach you with. “Juggie! I have an idea. Take off your shirt.” Not realising how crazy you sounded you smiled up, pleased with your seemingly genius plan. Jughead’s eyes popped out of his head as he stared down at you with his mouth hanging open. “Excuse me?” He sounded completely incredulous and you hadn’t noticed the slight blush creeping up his cheeks. “Not like Your flannel! The one around your waist! Take it off and lower it down and I’ll climb up.” His face softed slightly at this as he saw what you were getting at. He unwrapped his flannel from around his waist and throws one sleeve down to you and you grab on. He pulled and you climed up the flannel and as you reached over the top over the hole you both fell back onto the soft leaves behind you. You both lay there panting for a minute when Jughead started to laugh. “Only us Y/N. This stuff could only happen to us. It’s always an adventure isn’t it?” He looked over and you and saw you smiling at the treetops and in that moment he thought you were the most beautiful girl in the world, mud and leaves in your hair and all. But, obviously, you couldn’t read minds. He wished he had the guts to say something. “Of course it is Jug. It’s Jughead and Y/N, famous for their adventures and countless stories.” You laughed. Silence fell over the two of you for a few minutes as you continued to lay there, (which, in reflection, was probably extremely dangerous, but when you were with each other you felt as safe as could be.) Jughead stood up and peeked down into the hole. “You fell deep Y/N. Did you hurt anything?” He turned his flashlight to you as you hid your face in your hands. “Just my pride. Don’t worry, I’m okay.” You replied, smiling at his concerned face. Jughead was kneeling down beside you checking your face for injuries. “Good, dunno what I’d do without my Miss Marple.” He said with his hand still on your cheek. You had had enough. This proximity was killing you. The overwhemling urge to kiss him set in and this time, you knew you had to take action. “Jug-“ “Yeah?” “Jug, since I’ve known you I’ve liked you and in the more recent years I’ve fallen in love with you and I totally understand if you don’t feel the same way and I really hope that by saying this I haven’t ruined our friendship but I just had to say something otherwise –“ Your rambling was prompty cut off by a pair of lips crashing into yours. You were frozen and couldn’t respond for a second but once your brain realised what was actually happening you kissed back. This kiss wasn’t long, but it was a kiss full of all the words that needed to be spoken and all the bottled up feelings. Pulling away, you saw Jug smirking at you. “That felt long overdue.” You laughed and replied “Yeah. About 4 years overdue.” “Y/N everything you said, I feel the same. I was just afraid to say anything because, well – if you didn’t feel the same and I’d be lost without you and I love you too.” Smiling, you kissed him again. This kiss was different, with you holding his face and him pulling you in by the hips, both wanting to feel as close as possible to the other. “C’mon we better go. Pop’s?” Jug suggested. You both started walking back towards the road when you felt a hand snake it’s way into yours. You smiled up at Jug and found he was already looking down at you. “You know, this is gonna make a great story someday. ‘Hey Y/N and Jughead, tell us the story of your first kiss.’ Oh well, first I was doing some sleuthing and this idiot fell into a hole, then she asked me to strip off all my clothes, then she got all soppy and started rambling so I kissed her and told her I loved her.” Jughead explained as you hit his arm. “Always have to be such a drama queen, don’t you Jones?” You sassed. “May be a drama queen, but I’m your drama queen.” He said sliding his arm around your shoulders and kissing the top of you head. “Cheeseball.” You giggled. Looking on, you would have seen a young couple, making their way to their favourite spot, joking around, very much in love. It would have looked like an ideal moment. It was. The first of many, many more to come.

Do you think confidence is what makes a guy sexy? I mean obviously physical appearance plays a part too, but I feel like even if a man is handsome, if he's so awkward, that kind of cancels it in a way. I think it has something to do with poise too, but let's relate this to guard me sherlock. I guess my roundabout question is what do you think makes each character in this game sexy or really attractive?
Tumblr media
“What do you think makes each character in this game sexy or really attractive?”
I don’t know if you’re still curious but here we go!  Please keep in mind that this is a personal opinion question and what works for me or doesn’t work for me could be completely different from someone else.
Sherlock Holmes
Tumblr media
There are times when I simply can’t stand him.  I’m a person who tends to be hyper aware of situations I’m in, so his behaviour drives me batty.  That said?  The way he gets so smug when giving quizzes, how he goes from 1 to 100 at the drop of a hat, when he makes that internal contemplative face like the one pictured above… it makes me smile and feel light.
I find Sherlock attractive for his passion, and the way he can examine and reexamine that which is important to him; and admire him for how he is who he is.
John Watson
Tumblr media
This guy is a hopeless romantic.  He throws himself into loving you, he doesn’t seem like it in the JM route season 1 and I can’t honestly recall anything in JM season 2 BUT when he does: he does.  There is no holding back, everything about him says that he wants everything about you.  There’s mutual pining before we even really know the full mystery.  He’s texting you and he honestly just wants to be with you.
I find John attractive for how earnestly he loves.
James Moriarty
Tumblr media
James is a love/hate for me.  I hate the anxiety that comes with the concept of him growing bored and deciding that he’s lost interest.  He says he hasn’t and that he wants to see all sides of his love, you, the MC.  How he wants all of you.  Not just to love, but to possess.
The games he plays.  This man makes choices without really considering others opinions on the matter, mostly because of his narcissistic personality that puts him in the spot light.  All these and more are reasons for me to love him as well.  He upsets me, annoys me, and it’s a bit of a challenge. You never know what is just over the horizon with him.
I find James attractive for his confidence, his determination, the way he obsesses, and the way the kid gloves could come off in a nice games of wits.
Mycroft Holmes
Tumblr media
I choose this picture not for the words nor the expression but how it makes me feel with the two elements together.  This is a visual novel.  This is a neutral expression.  These are very neutral words.  Even John was surprised at how calm he is.  But then there’s Sherlock and myself who see something different.
I don’t know what to make of Mycroft.  There is currently a battle in my head trying to fix the previous model of him I had with the new information… but I can’t quite make it work.   I don’t understand how I understand him.  The only times I didn’t get ‘best’ choices are when I thought I was wrong. my gut instincts were all ‘best’ choices.  Mycroft pisses me off because I know I apparently mesh well with him, but I cannot find the how.
Currently, I find Mycroft attractive for his mild veiled threats from chapter one, his casual playfulness, and that there isn’t an urgency to keep him entertained nor a need for constant interaction.
Jack Stillman
Tumblr media
What can I say?  Sometimes a girl needs a little fear in her life.  Jack is passionate, but in a different way than the others.  Life can be short.  Jack can help it be shorter.  He’s very good at that.  “He is a happy fellow in a red coat, with red eyes, filled with red thoughts” is what I told Cinnamon Tea earlier today.
That said he isn’t just an attractive man wielding weapons. He does try to help MC/you out by being either awkward with how he’s trying to be helpful, or he’s helpful by being a little trickster/pranker.
I find Jack attractive because he’s awkward when he tries to socialize, he likes to tell partial truths or twist them like a trickster, and because he’s dangerous.
Sebastian Moran
Tumblr media
It’s Sebastian.
Okay, but seriously: this is a man of few words, and when he has a mission he goes.  He doesn’t take hints very well, which I think is because of his laser like focus.  When he gets sassy he does it well, but most of the time he is just a man with a plan of action that he will see through by any means.  Plus he loves cats.
I find Sebastian attractive because of his devotion to what he does and who he loves.
Jeremy Cassel
Tumblr media
This man will woo you and your neighbor.
He doesn’t know how to stop flirting, it’s all a game to him.  Yet here he is in this picture, Lupin pretending to be Lupin, but he’s totally not *wink wink*, to help out a bud WITH INSPECTOR LESTRADE RIGHT THERE. I headcanon that with him it’s hard to tell where the regular flirting ends and the actual love begins.  I like to think that it increases in teasing, but honestly only his route can really determine that for me.
I find Jeremy attractive because he makes me smile, even though he flirts and compliments everyone I think he’s just playful at heart.
Hercule Poirot
Tumblr media
A gentleman with a lot of cheesy jokes.  Hercule is patient, kind, he is as observant like Sherlock, and delicately playful.  This is an observation for him based on what I saw in the Agatha Christie’s Poirot series and from this game.  Sadly I still feel like we haven’t gotten a good chance to get to know him more and I look forward to that.  I’m a little disappointed we didn’t get more in the Mycroft route.
I find Hercule attractive because he’s warm and inviting with his personality and has excellent advice.
George Lestrade
Tumblr media
Poor Lestrade. He is always the butt of the jokes and to be honest there are times when I just want to face palm over some of his reactions to things.  They’re over the top and unneeded, to the point that sometimes it gets annoying.  Which brings me to my headcanons about Lestrade:
If he were to get a route, if he were be a possible love interest, he would be devoted and possessive.  Constantly flitting between checking that you like him, letting others know that you’re his, and making sure that no one else is stealing you away.  He’s surrounded by all these great guys that he often is seen as pale in comparison.  It’s got to feed the guy’s insecurities.
On if I find him attractive?  The jury is still out on that.  I find him interesting.  Because he can either be the biggest let down with a clingy and blubbery personality on one end, or terrifying with a completely possessive and paranoid person on the other…. with a 30% chance of inflated ego scattered throughout.

MFW 17, post 2/?
The Antonio Marras edition:
I think this might be the most cenventional look in this collection and it features a cravat and a hat.
Tumblr media
This is such a dapper dotted suit. And the shirt has got a flower print.
Tumblr media
This print can best be described as a landscape painting and as glorious.
Tumblr media
The best leather biker jackets are those with embroidered flowers on them.
Tumblr media
This lady is most likely about to have her deepest secret revealed by Hercule Poirot and she is not impressed by him.
Tumblr media
If you want to make something oversized, you should do it properly like this.
Tumblr media
One of the hottest new accessories in menswear is a old-fashioned bird cage. A bit unpractical but the best way to show that you know where it’s at.
Tumblr media
This outfit is awesome. End of discussion.
Tumblr media
I love the soldier references in these looks, especially because of the ‘rifle’.
Tumblr media
This is just so sweet and delicate.
Tumblr media
I really don’t know what to admire most about this look; the coat or the gas mask.
Tumblr media
The amount of fabulousness in this look is astonishing.

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created at The Broke and the Bookish that now has a new home at That Artsy Reader Girl.
Like every year since I’ve started blogging, I experienced the works of so many wonderful authors for the first time in 2019 and was upset that I hadn’t read them before. But better late than never. And I would to share some of them who have left a profound impact on me, and whose works I would love to read more and more. This list is in the order I read them last year, and not how I feel about them.
Balli Kaur Jaswal
Erotic Stories was probably one of the earliest books I read in 2019 and I was amazed by the way the author wrote interpersonal relationships and female characters, while also giving excellent commentary on the unique problems women face in the Indian immigrant community. I then also read The Unlikely Adventures of the Shergill Sisters, and while it was a completely different setting and story, the themes were again very relatable and close to my heart and I know that I will be reading any future books the author will write.
Agatha Christie
I finally read two Agatha Christe books – And Then There Were None and The Murder of Roger Ackroyd – and was completely blown away by her storytelling. I may not binge read all her works but I’m very much in love with Poirot and would love to read a few books a year featuring from now onwards.
Rin Chupeco
Rin Chupeco is definitely my find of the year – I finally read her Bone Witch trilogy and the latest release The Never Tilting World and I am in awe of the way she writes complicated characters. Lady Tea will always be one of my all time favorites.
Krishna Udayasankar
I actually read a short story by Krishna in Magical Women and was very impressed by her writing, which made me want to read her debut trilogy. And Govinda completely blew my mind. I still can’t believe she wrote such an ambitious and magnificent debut. While the rest of the trilogy let me down a bit, it was a unique take on the Mahabharata and I can’t wait to read more of her books.
Fonda Lee
I’ve only read Jade City by the author but I was on the edge of my seat through most of it, and I haven’t felt that in a while. It was too much tension for me and that’s probably why I’ve been putting off Jade War, but I promise I’ll get to it soon 🙂
Max Gladstone
Three Parts Dead has one of the most unique worlds and magic systems I read in 2019 and I tip my hat off to the author’s imagination. It definitely made me want to continue the series. But it was really the poetic writing of his co-authored novella This is How You Lose the Time War that captured my heart and mesmerized me from page 1. I can’t conceive of the kind of imagination that writing such a book needs. I’m definitely reading the author’s backlist.
Sylvain Neuvel
The Test was just around 100 pages but within those few words, the author manages to create a fantastic dystopian world and also give the readers an existential crisis. Reading this novella left me speechless and I definitely want to try out more of the author’s works.
R. F. Kuang
I finally jumped on The Poppy War bandwagon last year, much later than everybody because I wasn’t sure I could handle it. I won’t deny it’s a brutal read but it was the author’s very accessible writing that impressed me the most. And The Dragon Republic totally cemented Rebecca’s special place in my heart. The finale can’t release soon enough.
Mitali Perkins
I finally got around to reading You Bring the Distant Near by Mitali and I was amazed by how much it resonated with me. It felt like the author was telling my own story in the form of a book and it made me very emotional. Forward Me Back to You is on my 2020 TBR and I can’t wait to read anything else that’s gonna release this year.
Ta-Nehisi Coates
I’d mostly seen the author speak in interviews but never read a book of his. But Between the World and Me has convinced me that he is an important voice of this generation in the fight for justice and equality, and I can’t wait to read all of his works.
Ken Liu
Ken Liu is a very surprising addition to this list because I just happened to read The Paper Menagerie and Other Stories almost towards the end of 2019. But it was a masterpiece in storytelling, and it made me so emotional that I couldn’t read much else after I finished it. This definitely made me more interested in reading The Grace of Kings.
Have you read any of these authors’ books? Did you enjoy them as much as I did? What are your favorite books of theirs? Which other authors did you discover in 2019? Share all your thoughts below in the comments section…

The Curious Case of De Nga
The Curious Case of De Nga
View from the ridge above Longdo Nye (Panch Pokhri) lakes
Explorations on the watershed between Lachen chu and Ringi chu, North Sikkim
Text: Anindya Mukherjee Photos: Aloke Kumar Das
It was the third week of November,2015 and Kolkata was showing no signs of cooling down. Autumn was clearly gone and winter was still hesitating to enter into our space. Being gangetic, we understand this. Winter and Bay of Bengal are eternally engaged in a ‘cold’ war. Just like us Bengalis, they do not agree with each other- ever. But I could see and sense from experience that the weather pattern in the eastern part of the Himalaya was moving towards a clearer, stable state. News of new snow on the ridges of Singalila was bringing promises. I was getting restless. Long time, no mountain! And suddenly a plan was in the air.
As soon as the plan did surface, I met Aloke Das, my companion on Nanda Devi East  in 2013[1]. I knew, Aloke, a senior mountaineer of Bengal belonged to a very different school and was new to this style I was about to propose. Preposterous, exploratory climbing is not blitzkrieg! Perhaps that will be his remark, I thought, but secretly hoped that he would be game. I said, 8 days and that is all we got in order to crack this thing and come back. We shall have to force our way through dense forest and rhododendron thickets right from the river bed, climb steep slopes covering nearly 1000m a day while sleeping under overhang rocks. There will be fewer leeches at this time of the year but be sure to expect plenty of deer ticks. But the good thing is the threat of ticks will be for the first 2 days only and then on the 3rd day we should be able go above the tree line and get near this 5000m mountain. And finally, if we do get there and if the weather gods are kind, we will try and climb this thing. I paused and looked at him. My old pal was smiling and I knew what that meant. Reassured, I resumed.
We shall have only one day at our disposal to climb. No rest days, no bad weather allowances. Since we will be starting our hike from a very low altitude of 700m approximately we should not worry too much about acclimatization I guess. But since time is of the essence and the approach march cannot be shortened really; we get only one shot at it. By the way, did I mention that I do not know what this mountain looks like? To be a little more specific I do not even know if this is a peak or a pass? Aloke seemed lost now. Lost but not surprised. There is not a single report or images published in any journal as presumably no mountaineer or trekker has been here. But in Kekoo Naoroji’s book ‘Himalayan Vignettes’ I saw a map[2]that referred to it as De Nga (5060m). ‘De Nga’ is definitely a Bhotia sounding name and must have had its influence from the inhabitants of Lachen valley lying to its immediate east rather than the Lepcha sanctuary of Dzongu that stretches to its south. In this map, it is shown on the watershed of Ringi Chu in Upper Dzongu and Lachen Chu. If you know where Lama Anden is then perhaps it will be a bit easier to imagine. It is on the ridge serpenting down south from Lama Anden (5868m).
Map with 'De Nga' peak marked
Toyoshima’s map shows this ridge in detail, but no peak named as ‘De Nga’ is marked here. What it shows instead in the same position are two passes with identical names-Thepa la. The northerly one is of 4575m and the other of 5064m[3]. Interestingly enough, this higher Thepa la is approximately in the same position and altitude as De Nga in Kekoo’s book. So, in short, the objective of this trip will be to locate De Nga and Thepa la and end this confusion of entity and title between peaks and passes. Pack your ice climbing gears nevertheless as we honestly do not know what to expect- a scramble or a climb. The meeting was over. I realized both of our smiles were turning into grins now. The glorious uncertainties of exploratory climbing in Sikkim have always been the ultimate lodestone for me. Now my old friend is about to get a taste of it. The spirit is contagious. If the medium is right it can pervade and permeate without much effort.
Map with Thepa La (two of them) marked
The very next week after this meeting took place, a drive of around 5 hours brought us to Passingdong, a tiny village in the lower reaches of Talung chu valley. Parties that trek to Kishong lake via Tholung gompa has to drive past this village and proceed a bit further to the west till the unpaved road ends at Be. From Be, they more or less have to hike up north following the Ringi chu keeping the Lama Anden- De Nga ridge to their east. Coming back to our trip, while driving up from Siliguri; we had a short stop at Mangan and bought food and fuel for the trip from the local market. Neither the overnight sleeper train from Kolkata, nor the drive from Siliguri was bad. It took fewer hours on the bumpy road than we had imagined. At this time of the year the roads of Sikkim had less traffic as Durga Puja and Diwali vacations were over and the towns were quieter again till Christmas. No sooner than we had lugged our bags down from the car my friend Mingdup Lepcha appeared and lent us a helping hand to carry them into his house. Mingdup has been a close friend since we had forced our way up the Talung gorge back in 2011[4]. That evening we poured over copies of maps and its contours. I tried to explain to Mingdup the curious case of De Nga and Thepa la. It turned out that Mingdup had never heard of De Nga, but the name Thepa la rang a bell. Soon after close inspection of his description we understood that Mingdup had crossed the northerly Thepa la (4575m) before. But never went up its higher namesake.
Mingdup also mentioned that further down south on the ridge there are several lakes. Lepchas call them ‘Longdho Nye’, which means ‘pond upon a rock’. This reminded me that Lepchas call themselves ‘Mutanchi Rong Kup Rum Kup’, meaning ‘beloved children of mother nature and God’ and they are the original indigenous race of the region. Lepchas have language, literature and script of their own. In fact, before the Tibetan rule in Sikkim and British rule in Darjeeling, the language of the whole region was the Lepcha. Even during the early period of the British rule all administrative works of the acquired land were carried out in Lepcha[5]. There is also another name for the lakes in Nepalese however these days and that is ‘Panch Pokhri’. There is a faint trail up to Panch Pokhri. This was good news as this meant we do not have to hack our way up all the way from Passingdong.
At the end of the discussion, with a deep and mysterious voice, Mingdup said to me, I knew you were up to something strange again. We all laughed. Mingdup’s remark however reminded me of Hercule Poirot’s statement in his last case Curtain. ‘Where you see a vulture hovering there will be a carcass. If you see beaters walking up a moor, there will be a shoot. If you see a man stop suddenly, tear off his coat and plunge into the sea, it means that there, there will be a rescue from drowning...and finally if you smell a succulent smell and observe several people walking along a corridor in the same direction you may safely assume that a meal was about to be served’.  And soon we were all walking along the wooden stairs of Mingdup’s house down to the kitchen ourselves. A delicious meal was on the table. I felt thankful for all the wonderful friends these mountains have given me. The blessing of friendship is all I have.
Next morning Mingdup bid us good bye and wished us luck. He could not join us as a close relative’s wedding was up around the corner of his calendar. We wished him a grand time and healthy ‘chhang’ drinking advices were exchanged. We crossed Talung chu and the started hiking up. After an hour we passed a deserted looking small village called ‘Leekh’. Another couple of hours of steady uphill hike brought us in the realm of Sikkim’s dense forests. The foliage and flora resembled strikingly with central African rain forests. We toiled up for another couple of hours and as soon as we found a little clearing and narrow stream nearby, we decided to camp. Across the valley we saw the village of Lingthem. Interestingly, this was the same village where Geoffrey Gorer had spent three months in 1937. Gorer’s observations and comments are an invaluable contribution to our knowledge of the Lepcha community even today[6].
At night Mangan’s lights flickered in a distance below and across the Teesta. Next morning we were up early and after a quick breakfast we were back on the forest trail. In places it became hard to find our way as the undergrowth had everything covered. Not a lot of trekkers hike up to Panch Pokhri, we thought. After a gruesome 6 hours climb we reached the top of a ridge. Crossing the ridge we traversed up north for another hour and then next to a beautiful waterfall and below an overhanging rock we made our second night’s shelter. Firewood was collected, water from the stream was as clear as it could be; and soon we had a fire going. A quick meal followed a few rounds of tea and soon we all found our private sleeping spaces below the rock and prepared for the long night ahead.
Morning of Day 3 began to show a lot of cirrus cloud accumulation high up in the sky across to the west. Climbing through the scree of a dry stream we could see the NE flanks of Pandim (6691m) and its ridge extending towards Tinchinkhang (6010m), Jopuno (5936m) and Narsing (5825m) in the distance.  At the end of the scree we reached the top of a sharp ridge. We figured, in Toyoshima’s map this point is marked as an unnamed pass of 3700m. We realized then that we were now on the ridge itself. On the same ridge further up north lies the higher Thepa la. We tried to see if we could spot a pass or saddle like feature from where we were standing. But our view was guarded by 3 rocky peaks. Further consultation of the maps revealed the these three peaks were respectively 4334m, 4593m and 4292m. They were obstructing the higher Thepa la (5064m) from us. To our immediate east was the deep valley of Rahi Chu. Looking alarmingly at the steady progression of the cirrus gathering we kept climbing north. Another good three hours of steep climb brought us higher up on the same but closer to the Panch Pokhri and we decided to pitch our tents. We were now just above 4000m. The evening transformed into a magical scene as the clouds decided to settle down in a low level stratus formation down the valley. The full moon appeared from somewhere over and above the mountain ranges of Tangkar la (4895m) and Dopendikang (5359m) to the east and south east. We knew just beyond that ridge was Chumbi valley. To our west were of course the great Kangchenjunga with all its majestic neighbour peaks. All the peaks in the map appeared before us. The peaks of the Singalila ridge starting from Talung (7349m) to the Kabrus (7338m and 7317m) lay to the furthest horizon. Proximal to that, were the peaks from Pandim (6691m) to Narsing (5825m). Then came the great east ridge of Kangchenjunga itself. We could make out distinctly the Zemu peak (7730m), the Simvu twins (6811m and 6812m), Siniolchu (6887m) and its Rock Needles (5712m). To add a sort of sense of completion to this map reading delight, the twin summits of Lama Anden (5868m) appeared further up north. We realized what a grand panoramic view point this was.
Next morning was a total anti climax to this. It seemed the valley clouds had an overnight change of mind and now they were determined to make life a little less rosy for us. It started snowing and within a couple of hours it was 4 inches deep. We knew we were pressed for time. We pushed further up north, along the ridge and as we got near peak 4334m, we dropped down to the east from the ridge and moving a bit further up north we decided to camp. We understood we were probably located a bit south of peak 4593m and hoped that this weather would change the next morning and if that happens we would climb peak 4593 and have a look at the higher Thepa la and the confusion of De Nga once and for all. The scheme seemed fine but the weather gods decidedly had other plans for us. It started snowing heavier that evening and continued all night. Morning brought no promises but 6 more inches of soft new powder. The intensity of snowfall lessened, but by then we knew that we were out of time. We packed our bags and wet tents and with a shrug of our shoulders headed back down. The curious case of De Nga remained unsolved. Well, until next time[7].
Observation: Approaching the problem of De Nga or Thepa La would be much easier from Lachen as the slopes are of easier gradient and almost devoid of the dense forest cover that one encounters while approaching from Dzongu. We also learnt ( and saw evidences) that the residents of Lachen do come in the vicinity of ‘Longdho Nye’ (Panch Pokhri) and the upper reaches of the Rahi Chu valley to gather Yarsa Gomba[8], not to mention the occasional poaching trips for Musk Deers and Himalayan Tahrs. This proved our presumption on the ease of access to this ridge from Lachen but increased our concern for the well being of the nature and wildlife nevertheless. We sincerely hope that the authorities of Kangchenjunga Biosphere Reserve will be a bit stricter in their regulations in near future as this area now falls under ‘Tholung-Kishong Conservation Zone’ as per a notification in the Sikkim Government Gazette Extraordinary dated 15 December 2006.
Postscript: Aloke seemed happy and satisfied with what we achieved as well. Well I will never know that for sure of course. As may be, deep down in his heart he is still screaming, didn’t I tell you so? Exploration climbing is not blitzkrieg after all!

August 10 2018: NEW THE ABC FILMING LOCATION REVEALED: DE LA WARR PAVILION IN BEXHILL-ON-SEA, EAST SUSSEX The ABC Murders film crew has now moved from Leeds, Yorkshire, to the seaside town of Bexhill, as teased by the series producer Farah Abushwesha via scouting pictures on her instagram in March and June 2018 (see one of my previous posts). John Malkovich was seen filming the series in Bexhil-on-Sea on August 10 2018. Twitter users spotted the series official photographer Gareth Gatrell taking pictures of Malkovich’s Poirot standing on the beach. It was windy and raining and Poirot’s coat was dancing around Malkovich’s legs when he posed for the camera. :) The photographer joked on his instagram, “Outside they said. Excited I got! Waterproofs I’m wearing lol.” In another post Gatrell said, “I’m happy.... I’ve broken a camera but I’m smiling??? I’ve had the great pleasure of working alongside #johnmalkovich today who plays an older #herculepoirot in the forthcoming series #theabcmurders - He has such a strong presence #onset and quite a stature of a man. I first saw him and thought “OMG its Cyrus, I was immediately transported back in time to “Con Air” lol. What a gentleman and pro!!! Probably my biggest “Wow” moment so far. The images look so good.” Through an instagram video and picture of the filming location posted by series producer Farah Abushwesha and series director or photography Joel Devlin, we know August 10 2018 was the “penultimate shooting day” in Bexhill for The ABC Murders. I hope it does not mean the second to last day of filming overall! Devlin specifically says “A wild and windy penultimate day of filming in Bexhill for #TheABCMurders” in his post. (Sound mixer John Rodda and his team wrapped filming on August 8 2018 when the series was still filming in Little Germany, Bradford, Leeds.) Instagram users reported, “They’re filming the new BBC Agatha Christie across from our holiday apartment today, “ and posted some pictures of Malkovich at the location. A twitter user took a picture of John Malkovich and crew at Bexhill’s De La Warr Pavilion, and two more videos - Malkovich as Poirot taking a walk (I made a quick gif) and Malkovich and crew having a discussion. De La War Pavilion is an Art Deco and International Style building constructed in 1935. In 2005 it received an extensive restoration and reopened as a contemporary arts centre, encompassing one of the largest galleries on the south coast of England. It was also one of the filming locations in the episode 4x01: “The ABC Murders” on the Agatha Christie’s Poirot  tv show starring David Suchet. Another person on twitter took a picture of the crew’s many trailers parked on the beach.
