So I just had a very poetic thought about slay the princess
So yk how the Narrator goes “everything goes dark, and you die”. Well it would seem that most of the time, darkness is represented by the Long Quiet so .
Wouldn’t, in a way, dying only be LQ retreating to their most primal, most core state? Embracing themselves in the fabric of their own centermost self?

The Gracekeepers
fantasy/fabulism set in a post-apocalyptic drowned world divided between those who live on land and sea
follows a girl who’s been exiled to a lonely island and oversees shoreside funerals
and a girl in a floating circus, who performs with a bear as they travel from island to island, and is trying to get out of an arranged marriage to the circus director’s son
when a sudden storm causes them to cross paths, and changes the direction of their lives
inspired by Scottish folktales, lightly sapphic
#the gracekeepers#aroaessidhe 2024 reads#I enjoyed this!#a strange and poetic book about loneliness and healing and human connection.#I loooove a weird postpostapocalypse book where everyone is kinda fucked up in a whimsical or exaggerated way.#The side characters (most of which we get a POV chapter from) have so many issues.#loved the narration & scottish accent#barely a romance it’s more like they end up going off together at the end and it’s implied there was attraction between them#POV you're impregnated by dream mermaid 😔

i am literally so intrigued abt this thg x bsd fic WHAT ARE SKK LIKE. ARE THEY BESTIES?? WORSTIES?? DO THEY DIE💀💀
UHHHH idk how much to disclose but ultimately they still keep the two halves of the same soul like they are in canon bsd except i gave it a little twist. their dynamic is violent and sacrificial and ultimately ends in blood and betrayal due to the nature of the tragedy of the original story itself.
like soulmates that are so devilishly intertwined because they knit the threads of fate with their own hands ultimately bringing out each other's destructive tendencies. being on a level playing field where one is the sword and the other is the sheath but they both swap. do they bring out each other's humanity? yes. do they also bring about each other's downfall? yes.
#i will say it's rly like. gory but in a poetic way? also this is narrated in 3rd person limited from chuuya's pov so#lots of great characterization to delve into#(i did not want to write dazai's mind that would have been a nightmare)#ANYWAY YEA i have a great advisor who's helping me with this so i feel good abt it so far. i'm like 50k words in (about)#lotus’s asks

Dude I know I'm deep into my Gale obsession when seeing people's dumbshit takes actually makes me angry. Someone on instagram called him easy and a gold digger??? How do you live with yourself.
#had to turn off my phone and sit with my thoughts for a sec after that one#like what the FUCK do you mean#I just don't understand how people think GALE is the 'sleazy' one. and they're always the Astarion simps lol#like Gale. a fuckboy. GALE. who is so fucking dedicated and loving and poetic and straightforward#compared to Astarion who ACTIVELY. CANONICALLY. USES SEX TO MANIPULATE THE PLAYER. and he has his reasons for that#but between the two you're saying GALE is sleazy???#or easy? when the only way to trigger his romance is if you initiate in the weave scene and reciprocate his flirting in the shadow curse#like he straight does not come on to you at all. if you heard the narrator say the moment is intimate and them imagined a “romantic walk” or#“kissing him passionately” and thought that was the platonic route then buddy it is definitely you with A Problem not him#anyway#bg3#gale dekarios#baldur's gate 3#baldurs gate 3#gale of waterdeep#baldur's gate#baldurs gate

I enjoy spring once it's warmed up and my hands don't suffer from the fact I have genetically horrible circulation.
When you step outside in the morning and aren't greeted with your breath visible in the air, or the grass airbrushed by frost.
When you get up and take a walk in the afternoon and find yourself suddenly a little too warm, taking off your coat as you listen to the birds create a symphony from their trees, when other trees bloom in the prettiest of colors.
If I had to associate smells of spring, I would have to say freshly cut grass, the distinct smell of irrigation water, and dogwood blossoms.
Noah would probably enjoy it too, I think.

This scene at Rink O Mania makes a point to show Mike casually keeping to himself in the background while El goes off with Angela.
Instead of giving Mike’s reaction to what is unfolding, they focus only on Will’s reaction as he watches. What was Mike doing that whole time anyways...?
Oh.
Well now we know why he jumped up so fast...
#byler#unreliable narrator#will byers#we’re lucky they even gave us that shot in the van honestly#like he was staring a hole into wills face and we all just went along with it#anyways mike was staring at will at rink o mania pass it on#‘so that’s angela. and that painting must be for her. fml’#isnt it almost poetic that they show us mike staring at will in the moment he’s proven wrong#that the painting is actually for him#😭

"the child stared at her or at nothing, trying to breathe, and trying again to breathe, and trying again to breathe."
#im 134 pages into tehanu already but i literally cannot stop thinking about that line. like hoooooly shit.#ursula k le guin truly dropping some of the most incredible prose ive ever read in my life in this book. ohhh my god. oh my god.#her tenar books are slightly more poetic in prose than the ged books and its just so.... like women...... something something women.......#books#earthsea#i feel like out of context this line seems very normal but i swear 😭 in the context of le guin prose it's absolutely devastating#like she's such a factual narrator the repeated line just catches you so off guard.... AUGH#ME WHEN WOMEN. ME WHEN FEMALE AUTHOR. ME WHEN GROUNDBREAKING FEMALE AUTHOR WRITING ABOUT FEMALE CHARACTERS.

the gulf between me and people who care in what order things happen in books is nigh uncrossable. I can't figure out what they MEAN by good or bad pacing. To me a book either grabs my attention or doesn't but the speed at which events occur has nothing to do with it
#it's about how interesting it is to be in the heads of our pov characters right?#much of it is more about narration to me#and i will admit. i hate too much exposition#i like to be in the head of the pov character completely and that takes me out of it#a lot of times it's not intended to be omniscient pov yet our narrator waxes poetic about the layout of the castle#and i'm like. skip skip skip#i much prefer to just figure things out. put me in the middle of an event or an interesting thought#that's life isn't it?

i like the idea of Alecto speaking Like That in the NtN epilogue bc that's. that's just how she speaks. I like the idea that whatever conversation they had going in the John chapters was filtered thru Harrow into a language we as modern readers could understand, and the way that Alecto and John actually spoke to each other was like. just feeling each other's feelings via soul sharing and parsing out meaning from that - apart from John like naming the schools he went to and contellations and all that. I like the idea of John teaching Alecto how to speak with her mouth and use human languages by reading Shakespeare plays n stuff to her, and that's why he knows so many quotes just off the top of his head. Alecto speaks like the Bard's Cleopatra and Beatrice and Lady Macbeth, Elizabethan English style iambic pentameter, the odd rhyming couplet, and so on. the idea of it. i dunno. just delights me, i guess.
#tlt#the locked tomb#fuck off lou#my post#alecto tlt#john gaius#tlt meta#atn speculation#i am in no way saying i believe this is going to be the actual explanation#im aware that the epilogue may well have been written Like That for jarring dramatic effect#a la not in kansas anymore - this aint nona no more - alecto is older and More Than You All look how she speaks how she narrates#but i also like the idea of her just talking in poetic shakespearian prose#anyway#ntn#nona the ninth

Hearts Still Beating
post-apocalyptic YA
a few years after a tick-borne zombie apocalypse destroyed most of the world, a treatment is developed that keeps the infected from going feral
an infected teen is in recovery and sent back in the world - to live with her former best friend’s family, since her sister hates her for killing their parents
the best friend now lives on an island community with her parents and adopted siblings, traumatised from what she’s had to do to survive
when the militant group that has control of the island becomes increasingly aggressive, they’re forced to reconnect and work together
f/f, bi MC
#Hearts Still Beating#aroaessidhe 2024 reads#oh the setup for this is so In The Flesh but lesbians (but plot-wise more actiony and. american)#I liked this quite a bit!#good characters and a focus on survival and how they deal with what they did and experienced during the apocalypse#- while still being pretty action-packed and suspenseful.#I did find it random how near the end they still hadn’t apparently figured out that they like each other romantically?#when it seemed like they had clearly established that to each other?#I also found it a little difficult initially to recognise the flashbacks#- this may have been something to do with the audiobook narration not distinguishing it (with even a pause or slight change of tone)#I did find one thing at the end a little silly but I suppose it's a sort of poetic and hopeful way to end it#sapphic books#bisexual books#I kinda wanted a little more with her sister - she comes in more at the end but I would have liked more throughout the book idk

i try to keep my narration within the realms of the narrator so like. my writing style changes slightly depending on who is narrating. i only give u information they have but i also only give u thoughts that they reasonably think like. however i am a liar because sometimes i break this rule to write neat prose
#all my prose is usually also From The Character's Perspective#every word is very much Their Thought Process#not word for word by any means. but the throughpoint from A to B is In The Character's Brain#however sometimes. i break this rule#likeeeeeee sure he doesn't fucking think like this. but it gets across what i want u to understand and it sounds cool so.#u get a little cool fun paragraph. as a treat#writing from julians pov in particular is like. auhchhhhhh he thinks in such a specific detached way but sometimes i wanna get funky with i#it is. really hard to get across how he feels about anything because he isn't even AWARE of it! even in his brain!#acting it is one thing but HE doesn't even know what he's feelin! but the READER should!! gort damn it#milo is easiest to write in this way. he is a poetic man. also i give him lots of scene descriptions in his narration cause he notices-#-his environment. particularly in a romanticized way. and that is very fun to write#everything's pretty to him. hes so#more writing liveblog. for uuuuuu#FUCK this chapter. i can't believe this is what the wheel landed on

joaquin phoenix's oscar acceptance speech. february 9 2020.
#this has been on my bedroom wall since then#Pay attention to the third paragraph#He touched on so many important points on the time he was given and everything rang so true for me#(I mean him narrating the documentary that ultimately made me go vegan is poetic and all)#And the way he approached that third bit there it literally made so much sense#*sigh*#Just- yeah.

I love how divided the Fight Club fanbase is. Like either you think it is the greatest rom com of all time or Tyler Durden is your hero.
#now that I've watched this movie I'm going to be so annoying about it#Tyler and the Narrator are couple goals#film#letterboxd#fight club#omg its poetic cinema depicting the intersection between masculinity and intimacy

Not Tom King diagnosing the problem with his own run in issue #2
#well one of them#but it really all centers around diana not being a protagonist in her own story#also yes im reading tk ww right now. needed to happen eventually and ive found the best time is the middle of the night when im tired as#fuck and have the least shits possible to give#anyways its not good. doesnt have me raging like i was this afternoon w the absolute power waller garbage but rlly think thats the 2am#effect at work#as opposed to signs of quality#like i like poetic style narration but this is all so detatched from diana and her feelings about any of this#and all the dialogue is so wooden and awful like :/#“no thank you” me at this run#legit like sarge steel is the only one allowed to use contractions here or something#and the plot makes no sense with diana's character! the timeskip makes her look like a piece of shit because shes functionally done nothing#to help her people over the MONTH where theyre being massacred!#anyways at least the art isnt ugly. there are some things i dont like about sampere's choices but hes no 90s benes or deodato thank god#that would be my final straw /j. i dont have straws rn thats the point of this read. turning off the part that cares 👍#im sure theres worse ww comics somewhere. but this is not the vibe for me clearly#but i will read bc why the fuck not and also i love diana too much not to at some point#blah
