BRIGHT SUNS BABES!! So we (Gennia, Cat, & I) finally got recruited for the Resistance & it was SO GREAT. We all got into Star Wars together as teens/tweens & being this close to feeling like we were IN A STAR WAR was incredible!! We screamed the entire time, so I’m pretty sure both sides hate us. Star Wars is a fandom I got into with @gennia & @catherine in high/middle school & forced our friends to deal with our obsession. I’m happy that so many Episodes later, we all got to see the end of the Skywalker saga together & that Star Wars has been such a pervasive part of our lives. (I wore a Padawan braid to our opening night screening for old times sake!) ✨ ✨ Maybe it wasn’t as easy to see before, but women have always been a part of the SW fandom & that’s my experience. From my old friends to the new ones I’ve made, everyone has come to the galaxy far, far away at different times & in their own ways. We’re so lucky now that it’s so much easier for us to find each other & that we have so much more content, which is also increasingly diverse. For anyone who doesn’t think characters like Rey or Rose matter, I want you to think about how it felt when you saw Luke Skywalker embrace his destiny for the first time, what it was like to imagine you could go on an adventure in the Falcon or pilot an x-wing. That’s exactly what it felt like for a lot of us when we saw the diverse cast of the sequel trilogy following in those timeless footsteps. It’s why Leia was & still is so important to so many of us. I hope you’d want everyone to have that magical experience, too. ✨ ✨ Anyway, whatever you thought of TROS (I’ll publicly share mine next week), I hope you remember what Star Wars means to you. For me, it’s friendship, hope, and community & I’m grateful for that. OMG, can you believe we’re here?! It’s STAR WARS week & after waiting what felt like forever for Episode 9, I’m somehow still surprised & unprepared?
