yesterday i got the surgery on both my big toes because i had a bad ingrown on one and the other one acts up sometimes so i just asked the podiatrist to do both please, and he gave me a fistbump. specifically i have been telling my useless dipshit asshole GP for months that i have an ingrown toenail, please remove it, and she said idk i think it's just a dirty infection. put some antibiotic on it. well i already have been. GPs can do the toenail surgery she was just fucking with me because she's lazy. fine. so i went to the podiatrist after waiting months for an appointment, not being able to walk for more than a few minutes. the podiatrist says yeah that's an ingrown toenail. what do you want to do about it? and i said, cut the nails out and cauterize them. and he gave me a fistbump. i think they usually have to talk people into the toe surgery but let me tell you, just get it done. you don't want to fuck around with foot wounds.
the podiatrist kept saying things to me like "you seem unusually calm about this" and "you really aren't reacting to this at all are you". it's a sports medicine clinic and i think he probably deals with a lot of older men, statistically the most hysterical and sensitive type of patient you can have. there is nothing a 50 year old man loves to do more than avoiding a doctor for long enough to turn very tiny problems into life threatening emergencies and then whining and complaining through the entire thing. but i wonder sometimes if the preternatural ability i developed in childhood of simply going about my business while in severe pain and fear was ultimately worth the trade off. for someone who may at some point achieve rest or wealth it would probably be worthwhile to experience events non-dysfunctionally but for someone who will die working class and never retire? i think its far more useful to stay damaged.

The podiatrist looking around in my toe for my ingrown toenail, with growing horror: "There's...nothing here. On either side. I'll still put on the medication that prevents it from growing back. but there's nothing left to remove." Me: "Oh well that's good to know. Like I said, I take them out at home when it gets ingrown again. I thought I left a spike behind on one side." Dr: "You've been doing that for the past 15+ years, you said? How often do you do it?" Me: "How fast do nails grow? I just take it out every time it grows out long enough to get ingrown again. So, every few weeks, I guess." Dr: "It's gone all the way to the nail bed. How did you do this without any anesthetic?"
Me: "Very slowly." Anyway I think my new podiatrist thinks I'm some kind of serial killer or masochist or both.

I'm currently getting treatment for an ingrown toenail. The woman who's treating me is from Ukraine and she told me she used to be a doctor there. She can't work as a doctor in Germany because her graduation isn't recognised here and apparently we don't offer classes she could attend to catch up. So she's getting training as a podiatrist now. While yes, we need those, too, she's terribly overqualified for the job and now has to deal with stubborn patients like me who refuse to wear shoes that don't ruin her toes.
However I strongly question how different the education of Ukraine really is from Germany. If anyone could enlighten me that would be much appreciated. Until then I'll believe the only thing doctors outside of Germany don't learn about is homeopathy and we all know that's just a placebo.
It reminds me of the two young men from Syria that were studying some engineering before they came to Germany. Here they only found work as cleaners at a public pool.
It's so frustrating and embarrassing. Our federal government welcomes them and our state governments throw their hands in the air because they're overwhelmed. I believe they are, but they've also had like 8 years to find better ways. Maybe they don't need the 10th grade report card and curriculum in German of every single immigrant and refugee. Our offices should fucking communicate with each other, upload curriculums of universities, so that every state so they only have to be requested and translated once and if we're going to deport someone maybe we shouldn't wait for 4 years. That makes deportation even crueller.
