Fan Fic Friday!
I'm finally getting in the headspace to be able to read and enjoy fic and oh boy have I been enjoying it! Sharing a few that I've enjoyed reading this past week. For simplicity's sake I'm focusing just on completed works.
People Are Just People (Like You) by @trans-top-stede and @nonplayer-character (plus art!!) Holy shit. Holy shit. This story is stunning. This 24K fic (that also includes some wonderful art) shows Ed struggling to re-enter the world after the COVID lockdowns, all while drawing solace listening to a radio show for aliens. (Hmmm, wonder who could be hosting that?) There is pure, raw emotion baked into each and every word. The loneliness, the feeling of knowing it SHOULD be so easy to just do what you once did so easily but now it's HARD, the desperation, the hope, all while Ed just keeps trying. By the end I was weeping and just feeling in awe of all the little ways humans are simply there for each other, time and time again. I found this work deeply relatable, and I'm sure many others on here will as well. It's an absolute masterpiece and I can't stop thinking about it.
Red Skies at Night by @soupbtch Oh, this is a FUN one, even if I was literally screaming at my laptop for chapter upon chapter because OH MY GOD I KNOW I SAID I LOVE A SLOW BURN BUT WHY MUST THEY BURN SO SLOWLY WHY CAN'T THEY JUST KISS?!?!?! Anyway. Stede's a perfectly bitchy cruise critic, Ed's performing on said cruise ship, sparks fly. This 64K fic is the perfect blend of humor and tension and heartache and of course, a lot of romance. And some great sex. Danny did such a great job using beats from both S1 and S2 to tell a really beautiful story that had me grinning ear to ear nearly the entire time. (Again, nearly, because I also did a lot of screaming.) Absolutely fantastic.
True to Life by @ipomoea-batatas This summary ("Ed and Stede accidentally open an inn for ghosts") had me sold immediately. It's fluffy domestic fic. And a ghost. But not like a ghost that's going to be terrifying and murder you in your sleep, so don't worry if that's not your jam. Just a ghost with a backstory. This fic 28K is SO much fun, filled with impeccable banter that feels like Taika and Rhys just got set loose and were allowed to do whatever they wanted. A bit of a mystery, a bit of cozy domesticity, a lot of fun. Highly recommend.
Flotsam and Jetsam by @/anathxmadevice Looking for a quick read? This one's a little over 5K and is so absurdly lovely. Don't be fooled by the short word count; there are some Big Feels in this fic. Stede's a beachcomber, and Ed runs a pub, and naturally Ed is immediately charmed by Stede's excitement at finding some funky shells. I don't want to give away the ending, but suffice to say it basically left me the human embodiment of this emoji: 🥹. Just a beautiful little bite-sized fic. And there's also a podfic!
Pete & Prejudice by @shieldmaidenofmithrilhall Okay, here's something a little different! All of the above are Ed x Stede, but here's an absolutely charming 14K story about Lucius and Pete! (Although there are some truly adorable Ed x Stede moments in it as well.) Pete and Lucius are dating and everything is amazing, except once a year Pete disappears for "a thing," and now Lucius is determined to find out what it is. I can't say much more without spoiling it, but I will say I started smiling in the very first paragraph and by the time I was done my grin had basically reached my eyebrows. Absolutely perfect characterization, so sweet, so romantic, and some moments that literally made me laugh out loud. Be prepared to fall even more deeply in love with Pete.

I had a nightmare about burglars beating me with horse whips last night and woke up to agonizing gut cramps and another comment about how I write too much gay Porridge fic.
This couldn't be a worse time, guest commenter! I have been whipped all night by imaginary burglars stealing my laptop while I was crunching on meeting a podfic deadline (can't possibly imagine what that might have Represented, lol), my tummy fucking hurts, and I don't care to hear this shit!
Anyway, I have now set all my AO3 works so only registered users can comment and politely but firmly asked this guy not to keep leaving comments like this, so if he does make a fucking account to keep it up, I will be able to link that to the abuse team to show that I asked him to leave me alone.
Like, the first time was funny, but this is just kind of a bummer. I don't care if I never get positive feedback, but I could do without fucking randomers saying I'm monotonous for writing All These Homosexual Porridge Fan Fictions. I can't fathom how someone found their way to AO3 and managed to be so shocked by shippy fic about the two leads of a show being the majority of the fanworks in the tag, nor why he has apparently read multiple works that he clearly doesn't like and commented twice to tell me. I am not the one being inappropriate here! Mute me, filter out the ship, filter out m/m, don't seek out fic you don't like in the first place, or at least stop making your inability to do any of those things my fault.

Hi there!
I use ASR Voice Recorder for audio recording on my android phone (it lets you export as mp3 or wav files and has a Big Red Button that I find enjoyable), and Lexis Audio Editor for editing on my phone. I have a Galaxy s21, but both these programs also worked on my old LG G6 android phone.
Lexis doesn't do as much as GarageBand in terms of adding sfx or vocal filters, but it's user interface is fairly intuitive, and great at clipping - so if you've recorded an audio file and used the snap method to mark your flubs for example, you can just look at the waveform (or listen through, either way) and cut out the bits that are mistakes. Lexis also lets you save projects that are in progress, so you don't lose all your work if you close the app without exporting.
One downside to using the free version of Lexis is that exporting files as mp3s is only available for the version that costs money. Instead, what I do when I'm editing on the go is to export my edited audio file as wav, then upload that audio file to Auphonic and have them convert it for me while also running their noise removal filters for any remaining background sounds and attaching my coverart.
Podficcing on an android phone isn't quite as one-stop-shop streamlined as recording in GarageBand on my laptop, but it's definitely doable!
- record with ASR Voice Recorder
- edit in Lexis Audio Editor
- make coverart in PicsArt
- convert & add coverart in Auphonic
I hope this helps!
Question for the podficcers: do any of you record/edit on mobile? If so, what do you use? Looking mostly for android advice, but if you have an i-something, feel free to chime in as well.

Lovely @larkral asked me about my podfic set up. Here is a quick run through for you, and to any who are curious, especially those working on @caught-on-tape-fest.
But remember, every person already has the most important tool for a good recording. Your breath. No matter what tools you use to record a podfic, be in a place where you are sitting comfortably. Raise your shoulders and engage your core muscles. When you slump, your diaphragm is compressed and your voice will be thin. Take some deep breaths before you begin.
Tumblr media
Okay, back to me. I work at my dining room table. I have my mic, amp, laptop, headphones and a glass of water. My next additions will be a pop shield and a boom to hold the mic. I've been pondering setting up a more permanent place, but this is good for now. It's bright and stable and mostly quiet.
Tumblr media
Well, quiet except for the fishtank, my cat (who yowls to get kibble and thinks that yowling at chipmunks out the window will equally as effective) and a stupid watch that beeps on the hour. So, yeah, maybe a better spot.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I was looking to purchase a used microphone off of kijiji, but @cutestkilla let me borrow her spare. She's an extremely talented musician and would be a good person to ask if you want to discuss hardware set up.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If you are lucky enough to use this kind of microphone, remember to hang ten, using the spacing of your hand to position your face before it. Also, you want the microphone to be stable.
When you press record, wait for a couple of seconds without speaking. That will give the software a baseline of the room's ambient noise to allow you to use its noise reduction tools.

Hello, hello, hello and happy Sunday. Thank you @aroace-genderfluid-sheep, @confused-bi-queer, @bookish-bogwitch, @you-remind-me-of-the-babe and @coffeegleek for the tags.
Today, posting period for the Klaine Back-to-School challenge has started, but I am still stuck on the ending. Am I the only one who, like, tries to daydream fic scenario's first, just to see how it goes? The daydream unfortunately ends at Blaine taking Kurt to meet [REDACTED]. What happens next??? TELL ME, DREAMS!!
As the banner suggests, I am still finding my feet in this new podcast world. I figuratively threw out my old recordings and I rerecorded everything as a .wav file in an app recommended by @cutestkilla. I am going for the "keep your fuck ups in the recording and edit them out later" approach, since that does sound easier. @thnxforknowingme did offer to help with Audacity if I need it. And I will need it. I spent a long, long time getting these 25 seconds for this post:
(Oh, and yeah, I did claim the other fic. I am on a roll.)
Right, getting that little audio snippet was hell because I even had troubles with using the copy and paste options and then I had troubles saving it as a file. It also cut off a small part, cause the audio is supposed to end with "blooper reel or whatever", but that's mainly because I had to edit this... without sound on. Apparently Audacity doesn't like earphones and it just plays from my laptop speakers which is not fun in public, so I had to time it from the full audio and hope for the best. Well, it almost worked.
This will be a learning curve, or whatever it's called. But I said it before: I like how welcoming @caught-on-tape-fest is, because it is open to people with all sorts of experiences with podfics. I mean, I have none. Same with editing. I can make it as easy and comfortable as I want it to be. I see people in the Podfic thread talk about things that mean nothing to me, but I don't feel any pressure to do any editing magic. Well, I do want to add a kitten meowing to one of the files, but all the stuff about isolating sound or reverbing stuff or whatever (idek if I use the right terms here) or editing out certain sounds.... that is next level for me now, but yeah, it's great that I don't feel any pressure to do those things and that's an easy way to get into the podficcing world.
Although, while editing the file to get that snippet, I found out that there is a weird disruptive background noise in the later half of the file and I do not know what it is or how it got there, because my other files don't have it and I recorded the three fics in one go. Weird. Might redo it, if I don't figure out how to fix it. It was around 500 words, after all.
And now, the weather: @quizasvivamos @blurglesmurfklaine @esperantoauthor @otherworldsivelivedin @caramelcoffeeaddict @sillyunicorn @bazzybelle @dragoneggos @raenestee @tectonicduck @nightimedreamersworld @urban-sith @thnxforknowingme @captain-aralias @justgleekout @cerriddwenluna @tea-brigade @ivelovedhimthroughworse @moodandmist @whogaveyoupermission @ionlydrinkhotwater @1908jmd @special-bc-ur-part-of-it @larkral @chen-chen-chen-again-chen @cutestkilla @nausikaaa /@wellbelesbian @artsyunderstudy @martsonmars @facewithoutheart @shrekgogurt @boyinjeans @rockitmans @bitbybitwrites @blackberrysummerblog @whatevertheweather

Hello! I know you've recorded podfics of your own in the past and was wondering if you have any tips on podficcing in general? I've listened to your podfics before and loved them a lot, so I figured you might have some pointers 😁
Hello 😊
Thank you so much for your kind words about my podfic! 💛
I’m not super experienced (I have only made a few) as the @dispatchpodcast basically took over my life at the time I started podficcing 😂
But I can give you some info on what helped me. This got kinda long so I’ll stick it below the cut:
Firstly, I would say, just give it a go. It can be hard when you listen to podfic and it’s so amazing and polished and you feel like you can’t achieve that, but you will learn and get better as you go. I was very intimidated but am so glad I did it anyway.
I picked a shortish fic that I really loved to get started, and that’s what I would recommend. Something that you love so you’re excited to read it, and something on the shorter side so it’s not so overwhelming. Make sure you get permission from the author of the fic. The author might have blanket permission given for podfics in their AO3 profile or on their Tumblr, but if they don’t you can reach out to them to ask.
I listened to lots of different samples of podfic by others to help me get an idea of what I wanted to do in my reading and editing. Different people have different styles, and you’ll figure out what works for you. For example, I love podfics where the reader does different accents, but I am personally rubbish at accents so I don’t do that. As another example, from a editing point of view, some people remove breathing sounds, some don’t - I do because I hate the sound of my own breathing (though I don’t mind other people’s).
I have an external mic, but you don’t need one. You can use your laptop mic or phone mic, or start that way and get an external mic later if you like.
I record directly into and also edit using Audacity. It’s a free program available for Windows and Mac. I had some previous experience of using it but had forgotten pretty much everything, and found it easy to pick back up. But there are other programs available, and you don’t have to record straight into the editing program.
There’s lots of tutorials and things online. I heavily used this one when I got started (and still refer to it now).
AO3 has some very useful guides too, such as this one which goes through the whole process from choosing what to podfic to posting the final product.
I also am in the podfichat discord, which is really helpful. And I cannot go without thanking @mistmarauder, who has been super kind and supportive of me, always willing to answer my questions, and is a huge inspiration!
Hope this helps and please let me know if you have any questions at all!

Even though the signs were all there, that final blow of that having a label just… hit hard. So hard that when he finally figured it out, everything stopped. He had to shut his laptop, and sit on his bed silently as tears beaded at the corners of his eyes. Summary: “What is ‘going on’,” Changbin employed his most vigorous air quotes, “hyung, is that he is my arch enemy.” Chris nodded at this, but his face remained unconvinced. Changbin looked at Jisung who was trying to hide his snigger behind the chairs he was stacking onto tables. “What?”
Jisung’s eyes went round as he shrugged, trying to look innocent and clueless. Changbin just narrowed his eyes, sending Jisung skittering into the back room. He turned back to Chris. “What?” he repeated.
Chris shut the lid of his laptop with a sigh. “You spend a lot of time talking about someone you apparently only consider an ‘arch enemy’.”

Changbin is loyally and lovingly dedicated to the ancient art of baking. Hyunjin is a rebel without a cause who will call anything a cake if it'll get a reaction.

5000000% agree!
There are songs I never would have listened to, or even heard of, without a podfic's recommendation. There are songs I can only associate with certain fandoms or pairings, specifically because a podfic linked those words + those emotions for me.
I used Phil Collins' Something Happened On The Way To Heaven as chapter intro music in a Codywan podfic. When it comes up on my Dad's siriusxm radio, I have to smother a maniacal grin and hope he doesn't ask why I'm cackling.
I heard Depeche Mode's Personal Jesus for the first time in a Wincest podfic in 2012, and that specific set of feelings-fandom-podficcer's voice is now INEXTRICABLY linked to that song, forever and ever, amen.
There is a ST:xi podfic playlist that lives in my laptop - I don't have the link to the original livejournal post anymore, but I know TO THE TRACK which part of the "bb!Kirk & bb!Spock go to the Indiana State Science Fair" story goes where, when I hit play.
....I've been thinking for the longest time to put all my podfic intro/outro music into one massive fanmix/playlist, maybe sorted by fandoms (but maybe not - maybe sorted by chronology of 'when did I first use this in a work'). Like, I generally try to avoid re-using songs across multiple podfics (unless that's the Specific Unifying Thread of, like, a series or something), and having an actual playlist to crosscheck would DEFINITELY help avoid the accidental repeat situation.
But it would be So Much Effort to actually do it.

Podficcing Without A Laptop
My laptop was fried earlier this week, so of course my first thought was that this is the perfect time to Record All The Things. Since I made a post ~4 years ago about podficcing without a laptop, and it's basically a whole new world now, I figured I'd make a post with the steps I took to make a podfic fully and completely on my phone:
- hooked up my Samson Meteor mic to a usb a-usb c adapter
- plugged the mic into my phone
Tumblr media Tumblr media
- recorded 2 different audio files in ASR, as .wav and .flac (tried both to experiment, as both are lossless file formats - the .flac file took up less space on my phone’s memory when compared to a similarly-length’d podfic in .wav format)
- edited the audio file in Lexis Audio (and saved a copy as both .wav and .flac for further experiments)
- made some coverart in PicsArt
- put the edited audio file and cover into Auphonic to combine & convert to mp3 (Auphonic has a free tier that gives you up to 2 hours of audio editing per month, per email address/account: you can convert file types, reduce file size, switch from stereo to mono if need be, do noise leveling and hum removal, add art and metadata to the final file all at once, and even use their AI-powered adaptive filtering to get rid of intermittent background noise. I had a hard time uploading the .flac file to Auphonic, but the .wav file worked a charm.) SOME HELPFUL AUPHONIC TUTORIAL STUFF
- uploaded mp3 & coverart to mediafire or box.com for hosting (Mediafire is good for longterm downloads-only podfic posting, while box has a streaming embed that used to work well with AO3 (though I’m not sure if that’s still the case, now that the switch to new streaming code is happening))
- bragged about my technological prowess on twitter
Things I learned during this process:
LEXIS IS SO MUCH EASIER THAN WAVEPAD
The user interface is so much clearer! There are almost a dozen different sfx you can incorporate! You can zoom in and out of the track, to make very specific selections! YOU CAN SAVE AS YOUR WORK AS YOU WORK. There is even a whole tutorial reference site, maintained by the app’s developers, to talk you through technical stuff you might be confused about: SUPPORT AND TUTORIALS FOR ANDROID, IOS, AND WINDOWS
Take a look at these screencaps of the user interface, and marvel at the UI clarity:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(NB: I did kind of make this all slightly more complicated than it needed to be.
- You don’t need a USB mic: you can just record into the phone mic itself. Your smartphone is MADE to capture audio in the first place; it will definitely pick up your voice without the extra hardware. If you don’t have to plug stuff in, the whole process is ever so much more streamlined.
- You do not need to use ASR at all, in this scenario. You can record directly into Lexis Audio, and then edit that same file to delete all your flubs! But I like the joy of pushing the Big Red Button that ASR gives me, so I keep it around.
- If you use the free version of Lexis, you can save your finished audio in the following file formats: .wav, .flac, .m4a, .aac and .wma. If you want to give google cash money for the paid version of the app, you can also save as .mp3 files (and skip the step of uploading/converting in Auphonic). But I’m cheap, so I’d rather take the extra step workaround.)
Other cool note: USB mics draw power from the device they’re plugged into, that’s what makes them work without needing an external battery or plug. Some USB mics have a heavy power draw, and you can only use them on a laptop for best results. HOWEVER, the Samson Meteor mic, the Samson Go mic, and the Samson Meteorite mic are all USB mics that have a relatively lower power draw, and you can straight-up plug them into your phone for podficcing on the go!
...I'll include the links to my final podfic posts om AO3, when they finally go up, to show off the fruits of my technological labor detailed above.

samanthahirr's 007 Fest 2022 Masterpost
Tumblr media
My first ever Fest was a whirlwind! I was blown away by how much new content there was to enjoy, plus all the challenges and activities! Big credit to the Team Civilian co-captains @a-forger-and-a-point-man and @freddiechase for keeping the team organized and motivated.
Fest motivated me to comment a lot more than ever before (I really started using that Tumblr notes feature!) and to collaborate on a few projects, and I’m so grateful for the conversations I had with members of all the different Teams. The MI6-Cafe Discord Sprint channel was particularly helpful for cranking out nearly 28,000 words this month, which I couldn’t have done without the cheer leading and spirit of friendly competition from my fellow Fest participants!
And while I didn’t have time to post everything I planned (I created 3 cocktail recipes to represent various 007 characters), I’m super proud of just how much I did accomplish this month.
Here’s my report on my Fest creations and engagement for 2022:
FANFICS
Off the Books - Chapter 9 “Target Practice” (6,271 words) In which James gives Q an impromptu shooting lesson at the MI6 range and gets a little handsy and heated…
Touch It, Stroke It, and Undress It [7/7] Written exclusively for Fest, this PWP celebration of rare-pair smut also doubles as a celebration of friendship (with benefits). Featuring an aromantic Q who has casual sex with multiple double-0 agents, and a James Bond who is in love with Q’s gadgets and determined to earn the title of Q’s Favorite Agent. Each chapter stands on its own, but the fic also traces the growing friendship between Bond & Q. And it is intensely porny! Click through for a full list of kinks.
Tumblr media
Chapter 1 - Q/James Bond (1,662 words) Chapter 2 - Q/James Bond (2,303 words) Chapter 3 - Q/OFC (1,843 words) Chapter 4 - Q/Alec Trevelyan (2,311 words) Chapter 5 - Crucial Conversations (2,675 words) Chapter 6 - Q/James Bond, Q/OFC (5,120 words) Chapter 7 - Q/James Bond/Alec Trevelyan, Q & James Bond (5,558 words)
PODFICS
USS Skyfall It was a blast contributing my voice to the role of Moneypenny in this massive podfic collaboration project organized and edited by @spiritofcamelot. Pop on your headphones for an exciting retelling of Skyfall, set in a Star Trek AU starring all your favorite MI6 characters as the crew of the intrepid USS Skyfall!
Trapped! A delightful story of cats and tea and 00Q, and also my first-ever solo podfic! This podfic was created in collaboration with Team Villain member @melynen for Scavenger Hunt item #95: “Take your Civilian to work.” Recording on my own was a big deal for me; I wouldn’t have done it without Fest and a lovely partner to motivate me to aim so high!
READALONGS
4 Long-Fic Readalongs 1 Most Civil Readalong
MISCELLANEOUS
Q Branch Day Challenge - Rec List Bingo Card Blackout Villain Day Challenge - Ransom Round-Robin Poem
COMMENTS - 171
With the rare-pair and commenting bonuses, that’s a total of 431 points for this Fest—phew! And now I can look forward to an August of catch-up. I have dozens and dozens of AO3 tabs open on my mobile and my laptop browsers with everyone’s enticing new Fest content. I can’t wait!

Podfic? help!
My friend is having a hard time reading but would love for me to read to her so I am thinking about recording myself reading Ineffable Bastards, but have no idea where to start? My first thought was to record it with my laptop and upload it to youtube? With or without video.
Like what's good in terms of apps for recording, where to host, editing, etc.
She thinks I should make it public but I don't know about that, like legally but also if there would even be interest? Is there a lot of interest in that? Also it would be done without the accents because I suck at them lol which would probably annoy people.
I dunno any suggestions welcome, I am lost lol

One thing that I don’t like about AO3 is their statistics page.
I like the things that they do have there; it’s wonderful to have one convenient place to go to check the stats for all of my fics. I can see kudos, comment threads, subscriptions, etc. That’s great.
What I don’t like is that I can only see these things at the time I’m looking at the page. I can’t go back in time and see what these numbers looked like yesterday. Or last week. Or two months ago. And that bothers me. I find it very satisfying to watch how data changes over time, but AO3 doesn’t let me do that.
Luckily, I’m a statistician, so I decided to do it myself.
We’re under the cut now because probably nobody cares about this, but I’m just really excited about some graphs and I wanted to ramble excitedly and post them.
Alright so at first I decided I would just start recording my fic stats in an Excel spreadsheet. It was a bit tedious at first, but really not all that bad. I set up a nice Excel sheet, divided it into sections for each of my fics, and then made several columns in each section to record kudos, comment threads, etc.
Like I said, it was a bit tedious, but not awful. But then I kept posting more fics. And then I started posting podfics. And I was trying to record these numbers every day, so it just got to the point where it was too time consuming and kind of a pain (and also, prone to errors because I was typing all these numbers manually). On top of all that, it wasn’t all that easy to make the graphs I wanted in Excel, so I ended up just not making the graphs, which kind of defeated the purpose of tracking everything in the first place. I want to look at pretty graphs.
So I decided I needed to try something else. I needed a faster way to save all this data, since I wanted to save it every day, and I also needed an easier way to actually make graphs of my data.
Being the statistician that I am, I decided to write some R scripts.
The first issue to tackle was parsing the data that I already had recorded in the Excel spreadsheet. It’s pretty easy to read Excel files into R, so this wasn’t much of a problem. This script only needed to be run once, because once I’d run it I could save the data frame it produced and load that when I needed it, instead of parsing the whole Excel file again (which is a bit time consuming on my old laptop).
The second issue was figuring out how I should move forward with tracking new data. Ideally I’d love to have some way to automatically save the data from my AO3 stats page, and there probably is a way to do that (maybe I’ll figure it out some time in the future if I get sick of my current method), but I didn’t want to spend too much time figuring that out. Instead what I settled on is simply copy/pasting the stats from my AO3 Statistics page into a text file and saving that text file with the day’s date, in YYYY-MM-DD format. This lets me have one data point for each metric of each fic per day, which is plenty. If I wanted, I could look into getting more specific with time of day, but I don’t really think it’s necessary to get that specific, and especially not when I’m manually saving this data; maybe something to look into if I ever try to automate the data collection step.
Next I needed a way to parse this data. This was a bit more complicated than parsing the Excel spreadsheet, because I needed to account for the addition of new fics to the list, and also the fact that some metrics (eg, subscriptions) don’t actually show up on the statistics page unless they have non-zero values. All that being said, there is still a predictable pattern to how all this data appears, so it wasn’t too difficult to write a script to parse each of these text files and assign them a date based on their file name.
Once all of the parsing scripts were done, it was just a matter of combining all of the data into a single data set, and then the fun graphing could begin!
I wanted a lot of flexibility in the graphs I was making. I wanted to be able to look at my overall stats, or look at the stats for once fic individually, or look at the stats for a specific subset of my fics (eg, all of my podfics). So I wrote a function that would take any data set that I gave it and make me a set of graphs; one graph for each metric (ie, kudos, comments, bookmarks, subscriptions, wordcount, and hits).
So now all I need to do is filter my data set according to the fics I want plotted, and this function just... spits them out for me. Like magic. Except it’s not magic, it’s math, which is even better.
Now that we’re through all of my technical rambling, let’s look at some pretty graphs!
Kudos over time across all of my fics
Tumblr media
Very cool! Looks like it goes up pretty consistenly, until this month where the slope is a bit steeper, which makes sense because I’ve been posting a lot for Christmas.
Kudos over time by fic
Tumblr media
I filtered out the Christmas fics and podfics for this, but look! How cool it that! Also this makes it incredibly clear that IWOAK is much more popular than all of my other fics. But that’s okay, I can filter that out too!
Kudos over time by fic (without IWOAK)
Tumblr media
And now that I’ve gotten rid of that outlier, it’s much easier to actually see the data for the other fics. Why don’t we take a look at a specific one!
Kudos over time for IWOAK
Tumblr media
Now we can get a bit of a closer look at this outlier. I find it interesting that you can sort of tell when I posted a new chapter based on when the plots of the points increases. But it’s actually even more evident when we look at the comment thread graph!
Comment Threads over time for IWOAK
Tumblr media
In this graph, there’s a pretty prominent increase in comment threads when a new chapter is posted, and it’s even more clear than the trend you can see in the kudos graphs. This makes sense to me, because I have a few readers who tend to comment right away every time I post a new chapter, and I don’t get many comments outside of those.
You can see a similar trend in bookmarks and hits:
Bookmarks over time for IWOAK
Tumblr media
Hits over time for IWOAK
Tumblr media
I’m going to cut myself off now, because I think that’s plenty of graphs and plenty of words. If you’ve made it this far, thank you, and I hope you enjoyed the graphs! If you’d like to chat about any of this with me, feel free to reply to the post, pop into my ask box, or slide into my DMs. I promise I don’t bite. :)

...I should be doing my homework
Assassination Classroom headcanons: mostly about siblings edition
Maehara and his sisters jokingly argue that the others took all of one thing so now they don't have a specific trait.
Oldest sister, at least 5 cm shorter than the two of them: it's not fair, how come you two got all the height genes??
Middle sister, the only awkward and quiet one: at least you can make friends easily, why did both of you take all the social skills??
Maehara, the only one who gets scores lower than 80%: was it really necessary for you to take all the braincells??
They're all actually slightly bitter, insecure, or jealous because of their lack of social skills/braincells/height. All of them know it, all of them are treating their own insecurity as a joke.
(maehara and the oldest both think the middle is lonely when she’s just the only one who’s fine with not constantly having someone’s attention. the middle is the only one in their family who knows how insecure the oldest is about her height and feels guilty for being taller.)
Oldest loves crime K-drama, middle likes romcom or slice of life K-drama. Both make Maehara watch with them. The only thing they've (willingly) watched all together is Hotel De Luna. Everyone said it was good so the oldest wanted to watch it, Maehara and the middle think IU is awesome.
Sugaya is pretty laid back. His older sister? She acts like it, but she really isn't. She's got quite a few justified fears, since she somehow has most of bad luck between of the two of them
Examples: when she was six and accidentally locked herself in her room for over half a day, when she went on a field trip to the zoo and a monkey stole her fries and scratched her arm, when a goat ate her hair when she was five and she thought it was trying to kill her, when a spider crawled onto her arm while she was trying to sleep and it was really dark, ect.
While Nakamura is a very open person and enjoys talking, her older brother is a lot more quiet and reserved, and lets Nakamura take over the conversation when the talk. She sometimes feel like he doesn't really care about her
That being said, he does have her, back though, he just  doesn't really show it much when he doesn't feel the need to. Once Nakamura had a really bad day and just sat down on the couch next to her brother while he was playing video games and started crying. He noticed and talked to her until she stopped crying. And then the two of them teamed up in a shooting game and absolutely destroyed all the other players.
Hara’s little brothers both think that Hara’s really good at cooking, so Hara offered to teach them. The youngest picked it up pretty easily, and Hara was super proud. The older was honestly kinda sad about it, because he couldn’t get it and gave up because he felt bad about being worse than the youngest.
A month or so later, he asked Hara if she would help him try to learn how to crochet. It took a few days, but he got the hang of the basics and made a little octopus friend two weeks afterwards.
Fuwa is a huge fan of manga, and her brother is just as big of a fan but with books. When Fuwa had started getting into manga, their parents basically decided that fandom related messes should preferably stay in one room, so they would have an easier time looking for things.
They cleaned out a spare room so now Fuwa and her brother do all their fan things in their. They have a little recording area (aka a laptop, a headset, and a microphone) for dubbing manga, or reading out their favorite chapter, or even making a podfic or two. The walls are covered with little notes and red string for their fan theories.
The two of them are making a huge crossover of one of Fuwa's favorite mangas and her brother's favorite book series. The outline includes 7 multi chapter fanfics and 3 one shots, and if they finish it without running out of motivation and patience, they might make a podfic for it too. They have a good pair of parents, who are very proud and supportive of them working together and their huge project. They do remind them not to overwork themselves and to still make at least a little time to study.
Kanzaki and her brother both take piano lessons. Kanzaki's much better than him, and does enjoy playing the piano a little. Her brother absolutely hates it because he's horrible at it. He probably cries over being bad at piano more than he cried about virtually anything else. The fact that his little sister is better than him makes it hurt even more, though he won't admit that. It's not her fault he sucks. He still won't quit the lessons though, since their mom likes piano.
