This is one of my favorite Pocket Journals. ⁣ I don’t think I’ve shared it before because it isn’t a typical example of my work. But I love it for how LESS it is. ⁣ Less is my word for this year. I don’t always choose a word but as silly as it sounds this word kind of chose me. I needed less in so many areas of my life and this word just kept popping up all around me. It seemed fitting I should incorporate it into my year, and into my art which is a huge part of my life. ⁣ It doesn’t mean that all of my work will be less busy or less colorful, but it does mean that everything I do will involve less stress, less overthinking, less self criticism. Raise your hand if you’re making time for your favorite art these days. ⠀⠀ I have more time than ever these past few weeks (thank you mandatory lockdown) but I also feel more distracted. Luckily my little Pocket Journal makes it so easy to create every day. Small pages make finished pages doable. ⠀⠀ Truth be told I don’t always get pages done though. Who else is feeling all “crazy like a squirrel” when they make art these days? ⠀⠀ I’m serious! I feel all the ideas at one time and then go nuts trying to get them all out of my head. Unfortunately all the ideas can’t come out at once and result in anything even remotely awesome. So I am getting all the crazy out and onto paper in my Pocket Journal these days. ⠀⠀ That means chaos. No end result in mind and no pretty expectations- just color and marks and lots of scribbles. I think my overcrowded mind is venting via my paintbrushes and pencils. What’s color are you crushing on right now? Me? All the blues! ⠀⠀ To be honest-Blue is just my current favorite. I love all the colors and I really loved hosting the colorful scavenger hunt yesterday and want to thank each and every one of you who joined in and played along! I hope you had as much fun as me and that the hunt for color uplifted you and made you smile. ⠀⠀ I added a little snapshot of one of my color palettes to my pocket journal today and think that it’s amazing how much color really makes me happy. A Tiny New Addition to my Pocket Journal Collection. ⠀⠀ This little one is only about 3 x 3 inches. The whole book is created from bits and pieces that fill the studio drawers. Leftovers and cast off scraps. I love making every piece count. Recycled fabric and vintage quilt scraps, assorted papers and even a handmade baked clay bead! I love that I was able to repurpose so many small parts into something new and useful. There is so much I love about this layout. It is wild and busy and not even close to my usual color palette but still I love it. Love #1. My new delicate botanical stencils and masks. They are proving to be nice companions for my pocket journaling. Love #2. All the colors mixed up here. Corals and earth tones and soft pinks and blues and bright greens. Love #3. The Art Marks. All the time. But I wouldn’t trade it for anything!
