What are your go to Hinny fic recs? Got back into reading this pairing after a while and I am buzzing to read more!

6. Are there any fics from others you reread all the time?

In general, I reread all ongoing fics as they're being updated! For instance, anytime @takearisk-ao3 posts a new chapter to AG or TPFY, I will reread the last chapter, then the chapter that was updated, and then the same updated chapter again to catch anything I might've missed. The same goes for Beasts by @whinlatter. Then there’s Key Limes by cgner that I probably hit up about once a year, anything and everything by St. Margaret’s when I’m feeling nostalgic, such a beautiful blank (but smooth it) by pocketfullof (it's on LJ if you haven't read it! Go!), and currently I’m going through Someone Else’s Life by @ashotofogdensoldfirewhiskey again because the fluff is *chef's kiss*.

Fic Recs: All-time Favorites

I’ve been meaning to put together several fic recs because there are so many amazing writers out there. I started reading voraciously since end of November 2019, getting completely re-immersed into Harry Potter fanfiction, especially Harry/Ginny (which will make up about 99% of my recs). I haven’t read everything, but by god, I’ve read a lot and am excited to share some amazing stories. There are too many stories to rec in one post, so here are some of my all-time favorites!

Anything with an * is a WIP.

The Changeling by @annerbhp  

Ginny is sorted into Slytherin. It takes her seven years to figure out why.

The thing about war is that it never ends. Not really. The battlefields just change locations. Harry and Ginny after the war. (Sequel to The Changeling)

All right, be prepared to have your mind blow ten thousand ways. The Changeling and the Armistice Series are the pinnacle to fanfiction in my humble opinion. The themes. The themes. The nuance, the character develop, the exploration of the houses, events and circumstances that shape us but keep the core of us the same, the slowest of all slow burns, the absolutely magnetic attraction between Harry and Ginny, learning to accept who you are, feminism, house unity, realistic post-war politics and ramifications, everything that could have been in one amazing package. If I had one story (I’m counting all of these as one – bite me) with me on an island, this would be it. I could read it forever and ever, and still learn, laugh, and cry. Please read this and realize that Ginny should have been sorted to Slytherin and the epicness that would have ensued.

Okay, if I had to choose any writer whose writing reminds me the most of canon, whose writing makes me feel in my bones that I’m reading more of the actual series, who has completely spot-on characterizations, who expands my mind what these characters could have been feeling beyond the canon narrative, this is it. Flo has made me laugh, cry, feel all the feels, and desperately wish for more of the canon world, particularly Hinny.

I love her longer series, such as Not from Others, and still need to read the rest of her amazing work (it’s too good to read all at once, and better to spread out as wonderful gifts over time), but it’s really those stolen, happy, pining, angsty, loving moments of Harry and Ginny during Ootp, HBP, DH, and then post-DH that get me.

There are far, far too many to rec, so really just read everything, but my absolute, absolute favorites include:

An accident at work left Harry with a mysterious case of amnesia and a wife he couldn’t remember.

I have read this story so, so many times, and I still get emotional every time. Amnesia is one of my favorite tropes, but it’s very difficult to get just right in my opinion. Annerb works her magic once again, even managing to make Harry jealous of himself (an absolute favorite trope of mine).

Read it. Read it again. Read it always. I’m writing my own amnesia fic that was inspired by this one and Annerb’s pontificating on what if Ginny were the one with amnesia. Hope it can hold a candle to this gem.

I read this over ten years ago, when it was originally posted on LJ. It stayed with me all these years, and I was overjoyed to find it again. It fits the amnesia trope, but not in a conventional way. I love Ginny’s struggles with this, her loneliness, the exploration of the point of life, and the aching loneliness of missing someone who is right beside her.

All right, I’m a bit of a perfectionist, and I also have way, way too many stories to rec that I can’t possibly fit them all in one post, but these are some of the stories I have reread too many times to count, and my love for them never, ever fades. That’s not to say I don’t absolutely love many more fics, but these hold a special place in my heart.

I’ll be breaking out the rest in additional future posts in which I group them by things like tropes (amnesia, friends with benefits, coffeeshop AU, muggle AU). Because I’m a weirdo and am overthinking this even though no one cares about my categorizations.

I understand what you mean by ‘better known writers in the fandom’, but I guess even popularity of writers is a pretty subjective thing. Presumably, you mean the likes of Annerb, Northumbrian and Floreatcastellum, and I do love all their stories. I also love the stories from Hinny writers @fightfortherightsofhouseelves, @seriouslysam8, @breaniebree, @thedistantdusk, @secretkeeper13, @stuckwith-harry, @clarensjoy (I’m sure you’re well across most or all of these authors), and no doubt many more that I’ll think of two seconds after I post this.

She disregarded the tightening in her chest and the fluttering in her stomach when they were together, noticing that he never stopped noticing her, anticipating her desires and giving them to her without her having to ask. And she refused to acknowledge that maybe, just maybe, it wasn’t only about sex — not for her, and maybe not for him either. And that’s, of course, how she ended up here: huddled over a cauldron in the bathroom of her tiny flat, trying to work up the courage to prick her finger and pinch a drop of blood into the potion.

Are you going to kiss me or not by Sorcerer’s Muse This is an alternate universe story where Harry never attended Hogwarts. For various reasons he and Ginny are both living pretty much as muggles and meet for the first time roughly ten years after the defeat of Voldemort. 

Deja Brew by @pottermum A wizarding hero seeks sanctuary in the Muggle world, as he tries to figure out the rest of his life. He works in a café called Déja Brew. Then one day before Christmas, she walks in - Ginny Weasley. 

Would You Be My Little Quarantine? by @celtics534 Moving was always stressful, but to be placed in a nationwide lockdown only a few weeks after moving was just too much for Ginny to think about. At least she had a fit neighbor keep her company... from two meters away, of course.

These two are WIPs that I love, but they aren't regularly updated. But I'm sharing them in the hope that if they get enough love, perhaps it will help to motivate the writers.

When the Party’s Over by Mintsea (be sure to check the warnings for this one) After ten years, golden couple Head Auror Harry Potter and Holyhead Harpies Vice-Captain Ginny Weasley unexpectedly broke up, leaving the Weasley family and gossip columns reeling. But two years later, a chance encounter at a London wizarding bar the week before Ginny's wedding to Neville Longbottom throws the new lives they’ve built without each other into turmoil. 

Issues in the Auror Office by transfiguredtoad Ginny Weasley has moved house and started a new job in twenty four hours, and both have brought her close to Harry Potter. At home, he's Harry, her mate, but at work, he's her boss - and fraternising within teams is forbidden. But she's falling for him, and he's falling for her. What are two Aurors in love to do?

Like any other parents, me and my husband tried our very best to instill values in raising our children. Values that we also inherited from our respective parents. With all the #pocketfullof #values that we’ve imparted to them, I’m assured that we have raised #successful children which give us #success too. One of the values that we taught them is being frugal. Fic Recs: Post-War Canon

There are so many long epics that deal with the fallout of post-war canon. This exact moment, right after the war stops, is for me not something I read often. Believe me, there are many wonderful stories, but I prefer stories on the shorter side here apparently. 

The Grown Up Driver by Pocketfullof

Ugh, oh man, this story. This story. It’s so well written, full of beautiful lyrical prose. It gives Harry and Ginny the break from everything and everyone, just leaving the two of them to find themselves, find each other, and heal. Yes in all the ways possible. It makes my ache for the two of them in the best ways.

I still cannot believe could-have-beens wrote me this story because I was going through a tough time at work. It is so heart-wrenchingly beautiful. This is my favorite canon reuniting after the battle story, and I am not just saying that because she wrote it for me. Read it, love it. Cry tears of joy that it exists.

Askjdsdfghj ugh the feels I get from this amazing story! Ginny’s not feeling well, and Harry can’t stop thinking the worst. Harry is so in character, it hurts (in a good way). Wonderful combination of angst and fluff.

The first piece from Clarensjoy I read. It made my heart sing. After the war, Charlie keeps watching Harry and Ginny; it makes Harry nervous. The descriptions of the earth, the way Harry and Ginny are curled into one another, the way Ginny addresses the problem head-on, and Charlie’s musings on what he sees. It’s delightful, as is her continue-on piece.

There Your Heart Also Lies by @deadwoodpecker

Harry and Ginny need to work through an unforeseen relationship issue. I love how true this story feels, both the residual feelings that Ginny grapples with, and Harry’s response, showing how they’ve grown as a couple and a team.

I love when we get outsider views of Harry and Ginny being their glorious selves, where they emit sunlit days, even to those who have long been stuck in the shade.

Compromise: A Love Story by femmenerd

Ginny needs to be more than the Boy Who Lived’s girlfriend. I like the messiness of this, the hard edges of their relationship. They’re nowhere near perfect, certainly not Ginny, but they wouldn’t have it any other way.

An amazing story of how Harry and Ginny makes it through each of the bases until they make it all the way to home. Wonderfully passionate and innocent at the same time.
