PLEASE. I NEED HELP

I'm going on a trip in August and I've decided I really need a new e-reader. I've finally found a company that understands page turning buttons are good! My main beef with them is that they make too many fucking near identical devices and it gives me the worse decision paralysis. TBH this is why I don't already have one.

Pocketbook Verse Pro:

Pocketbook Touch HD 3:

The Touch HD 3 is no longer being produced and the Verse Pro is what Pocketbook is replacing it with. My understanding is that hardware and software wise they're actually quite similar, the main difference being the charging port and the new one is sliiiightly more water proof.

I like the design of the Touch HD 3 more-- to me the buttons look more functional because they look a little bigger and there's some non button space below them. I also just, aesthetically think it looks nicer. Plus it's like $20 cheaper. Is it really dumb to buy a five year old device that's no longer being produced?????????

The Verse Pro will also get to me much sooner and has more cover options.

If I'm going to get the Touch HD 3 I gotta order it ASAP.

Pocketbook has cheaper models but my understanding is that the build quality on them kinda sucks and they're pretty breakable. The problem is Amazon has no problem selling e-readers at a loss and this fucks over the rest of the industry so bad. TBH I would buy a new kindle if they still sold a model with physical buttons, but no. So here we are.

Ugh don't tell me my new (used) ereader is breaking after just a few months 😭 three days ago the screen glitched on a half loaded on the e-ink page with streaks of lines across the loaded words, then it got stuck on sleep mode last night. Both times it took multiple tries holding down the power button to try and restart it. I was hoping the first glitch was one-off but now I'm starting to worry

I'd recommend Pocketbook! It has a touch interface but also has buttons for turning pages and isn't anybody's proprietary ereader so there are no ads. There is a backlight but you can turn it off. I leave mine very low so it's invisible in the light and just enough light to read by in the dark.

If my reading device isn’t self-contained and disconnected from the outside world how can /I/ reach this blissful state of mind while reading? I feel like launching my own product. Do you love darkness and buttons? Do you feel nostalgic for forbidden nighttime childhood reading and wish to struggle to make out sentences in the dim recesses of an unlit screen? Would you rather die in a ditch than see an ad in your e-library? Does the concept of connectivity in relation to your reading device strike fear and suspicion in your heart? Szóval Újra itt, de csak azért mert kíváncsi voltam, hogy milyen régen vettem az e-könyv olvasómat. Hát régen.

Már szerintem egy éve nem olvastam rajta semmit, mióta megvettem az új telefonomat és rájöttem, hogy a háttér világítás igen is jó, hogy van. Szóval újat fogok venni, tervek szerint ez is PB lesz csak extrásabb.

Nem feltétlenül akartam ennyit költeni rá, de a telefonom után, amiben van szemvédelem rájöttem arra is, hogy az sem mindegy, hogy milyen az a fény. Ezen meg majd lehet színhőmérsékletet is állítani. A kiszemeltem; PocketBook Touch HD 3 külsőre nagyon hasonlít a régire szerintem csak ennek már sokkal kisebb a kávája.

Igazából annyira sokat olvastam a telefonomon, szinte csak arra használom, hogy az már az akkumulátor kárára ment és nem akarok még minimum egy évig új telefont venni, szóval jött az ötlet. Ez amúgy is elfog menni 4-5 évig (legalábbis nagyon remélem!!) szóval megéri. Szerintem. Telefonom szerint biztos.

I agree the kindle keyboard has the best physical layout of any e-reader, I loved my kindle keyboard so much. But honestly the lit screen is too useful to abandon and the pocketbook models have the advantage of not being format locked.

I have a kindle keyboard with a dead battery and I might finally buy a new battery and brave changing it out to make a backup e-reader.

We’ll see how the pocketbook touch hd 3 works!

My current ereader is a Touch HD3 Pocketbook.

It has a light (which took me a while to get used to, but now I love it - I can read after I turn off the overhead and not get out of bed to turn off the room light), but you can turn it off.

It has BUTTONS TO TURN PAGES.

It has a lot of touch screen stuff, of course, but it also has 4 buttons: page forward/back, main menu, and "settings/internal menu." (I'm sure that's not what they call it.)

It has internet options; I've never activated them. I connect it to my computer with the cord to load books onto it.

...if you make a Mossbook without wifi and with buttons to turn pages, ideally with LOTS of buttons like the long-lost Astak Pocket Pro, especially if you make it in the 5" size that NOBODY IS DOING ANYMORE, I will buy one.

I will buy three and stash two of them away for when the first one dies, and so I have one for a friend.
