ZINE BASH #06 - ALL THE SMALL THINGS [@zinebash] ‘Our Childhood Dollhouse’

An easy one for me - queen of the small things - going back to my roots of spending countless hours at my plethora of dollhouses - one at each of my many estates (grandparents houses).

Being an only child for half my life and being fortunate enough to have loving grandparents whom never moved my childhood things, I am left with whole rooms that have remained relatively untouched since I put down my games of make believe for the last time. Funny how you never realise when that will be, because although I still love to arrange, name and display little guys I can’t seem to breathe life into them like I did back then. And without that little girl squirrelling herself away to that house everyday I don’t think I’d be the person I am today, and for that I thank that her and make this tribute to her favourite small things.

A guide to bird watching! A birding zine I made this year, with a bunch of Aussie birds. It also has a map on the back, but that's only relevant to Melbournians.

My main piece for @brave-the-storm-r1999 zine! I am so glad to have joined this project and meet some of the most fun and wonderful people through this zine!!! The Jazz Age collab takes a special place in my heart (because of KB) so I had a lot of fun creating this!!! 🎷🥂 ✨

COVER ZINE UPDATE I want to apologise for delays in the shipping of the cover zine. I want each cover to come out perfectly so some tweaks have to be made this week and next before the final print run - i will send out updated delivery times shortly via etsy to those who will be delayed. My Latest Obsession: Pocket Libraries

What is a pocket library?

Somewhere between a collection of zines and a commonplace book, a pocket library is a bunch of pieces of paper, folded zine-style, with excerpts and quotes from a particular book. In that sense, you're carrying around however many books you want, with only the bits that interest you, without taking up too much space.

How do you make one?

I could try and explain it to you, but the guy I got the idea from already has a great video on it:

What kinds of books can you make?

Really, anything! So far, my collection includes modern books I like, classics, and self improvement/therapy books. I would recommend making ones for books you've already read, and quotes that are findable either on the internet or in an ebook copy (otherwise you'll have to type it all yourself). If you really wanna go wild, you can make one for every book you've read, but I think I'll stick with just my favourites and things I'll reference often.

Overall, this is a great way to make sure I'm still taking some literature with me even when I don't have a large bag - I am of the Rory Gilmore school of thought that you should always carry a book with you. I have a lot of fun making these, picking the excerpts out and adding little pops of colour to the sections where the printing margins ruined the neatness. As a bonus, I have these library drawers hovering above my desk and these are the perfect size to fit in them! I'll definitely be making more (and adding dividers by author initial of course).
