So I watched some of MxDisney 2018 and... THESE TWO ARE SO ADORABLE! I prefer to edit CGI but I just had to add these two.
Marco (lambydance) and Lucian (virisdescent) have stolen my heart and made watching that year’s competition enjoyable to watch. Gotta love a new pair of space gays!

... Yesterday I did a commission for a friend! It's for John Rolfe from Pocahontas 2 to be worn at D23 this weekend. I left the sideburns a little long so they can trim it after seeing how it fits, but I love making these ostentatiously big bangs!! Why bother with the “who is the perfect ship for Pocahontas” in Pocahontas 2? We could easily ship those two together and everything would be solved! I mean watch the movie again and look how cute they are with each other!! >3

It drives me crazy that in some Disney sequels, the animation isn’t as good as the original.

Pocahontas 2
Okay, if you're looking for a rant about how historically inaccurate it is, leave. Of course it's not historically accurate. It's a children's movie. Made by Disney. And what is Disney's primary goal? Entertainment. Not only is it a children's movie made by Disney, it is the sequel to an extremely successful Disney movie. And as we all know, the sequels are generally disappointing.
Now, that being said, this is more of a "I don't understand this" rant. There are a lot of things that don't coincide with the original movie that they could have changed and still kept the plot and the movie interesting. The music, aside from "Where Do I Go From Here" is barely tolerable. The animation is pretty grotesque, to the point that both John Smith and Pocahontas are different enough to be noticeable.
Here are my notes that I made as I was watching the movie. I'll address them separately later.
for some reason, no one locked up Ratcliffe
terrible puns omg
the queen is the only one who knows what the hell she's doing
why is John Smith's compass suddenly engraved?
why the use of the word "barbarians" rather than "savages"
wow, Pocahontas is a sassy bitch
they let a woman go to speak to the king of England?
shitty songs
Ratcliffe still thinks the Native Americans have gold
the king is a tool and I don't know why no one has assassinated him yet, he's kinda weak and whiney
why the fuck does the king think Pocahontas would like bear-baiting, does he even know she's Native American?
wtf John Smith being all casually not dead
also, stop trying to be clever
wth bridge?!
Johns... why do you both think you know best for her? shut up
John Smith's hating on her free spirit
Queen Anne knows what's up
why are y'all surprised Ratcliffe is a liar?
Of course she's trying to save her people, you dumbass
Ratcliffe, you just defaced the flag. ILLEGAL
wtf John Smith, you almost let him get away you arrogant tool
"Arrest him!" Uhm.. you just did?
John Smith, how dare you assume to know Pocahontas' dreams?
OMFG THE BEAR LISTENS TO MRS. JENKINS
So.. let's start at the beginning, where I'm sure some of you got confused. Yes, I realize that Ratcliffe is in a position to manipulate the king. However, when the whole crew of men went back to England to get John medical attention and to turn Ratcliffe in.. there had to be at least 40 witnesses to Ratcliffe's mishaps. They all could have vouched for John. Not to mention that John had Ratcliffe's musket lead embedded in his torso. When John Smith is re-introduced at the beginning of the movie, we have to assume it's months or years later, because he's not only fully healed, but in his own house with fancy new clothes.
The terrible puns and jokes in this movie speak for themselves. And I can't stand Percy, Flit and Meeko this time around.
Queen Anne seems to be the only one in all of London who has her head on straight.
John Smith's compass wasn't engraved as far as we could see in the first movie. And why so elegantly. He wasn't in super high standing, he was just a voyage captain. And he kept his compass on him all the time, so he wouldn't need it engraved.
The use of the word "barbarian" in place of "savage" is actually pretty significant in my mind. Barbarian seems a more civilized term for savage in the first place. But one of the very few times "savage" is used, it's used by Pocahontas herself, when she's trying to make a point.
I must say, the whole initial conversation between Pocahontas and John Rolfe was pure gold.
At this time in history (and I know I said it wasn't about historical accuracy, but still, this was kind of a really big deal) women weren't exactly high on everyone's list. No one would have allowed Pocahontas to come along.
Oh god the songs. Where Do I Go From Here is pretty decent, but the rest just make me cringe. Especially compared to the soundtrack of the original.
WHY THE HELL DOES RATCLIFFE STILL THINK THERE'S GOLD IN COASTAL VIRGINIA? Did he not dig for the first half of the first movie? Did he not get into a fight about it with the natives? People have now been living in Jamestown for months/years and there's been no sign of gold anywhere.
King James is just a weak character all around and bitches to get his way and I know he's a king and he can do that, but I would have offed that fucker long ago and I think Queen Anne would agree.
Bear-baiting was a form of entertainment, but why would they assume that someone from Pocahontas' background would find enjoyment in that? It doesn't make sense.
And John Smith just whips off the hood like "LOL I'M ALIVE" and Pocahontas just stands there in shock like a normal person would because does he expect her to just run into his arms when she's probably having a PTSD moment?
And he needs to stop showing off because ew.
They all run across the bridge while it's collapsing. Yeah, that's not how science works.
The two John's start fighting, planning her future, and she just dips out because fuck that. And of course there's a love triangle because why not.
And she comes back and says she's going to defend her people even if they kill her and John Smith just acts like she's insane. THIS GIRL TOLD HER FATHER TO KILL HER IN PLACE OF YOURSELF. YOU THINK THE KING OF ENGLAND SCARES HER? CHECK YOSELF, JOHN SMITH.
Again, Queen Anne provides the voice of reason.
Ratcliffe is probably not the only liar in your courts, your majesty..
No, King James. Pocahontas don't give a damn that you might kill her, she's telling the truth so fuck you. She's protecting her people, the way any good princess would do.
Yeah, pretty sure slicing up your king's flag isn't allowed..
John Smith just cuts Ratcliffe's rope and lets him drop into the ocean. Why not.. tie him up?
King James.. You put handcuffs on him, then said to arrest him? I think you need to put that in another order..
When did Pocahontas and John Smith ever talk about running away together to have adventures on their very own ship? Slow down, Sinbad, she's not into it.
Mrs. Jenkins is my favorite.

Pocahontas 2
So I watched Pocahontas 1 & 2 and I've noticed something, people say that's Frozen was the first movie that Disney made that recognized that you don't marry your first true love. That's not true though. In Pocahontas 2, Pocahontas travels to the new world an falls in love with another man after thinking that John Smith was dead. Turns out he wasn't, and typically the girl would go back to her first true love right? But in the end se decided to stay with John Ralph and John Smith decided to go traveling like he loved. They weren't mad that they couldn't be together, they were happy. They parted ways after following their hearts. What really amazed me was how Disney brought such a strong topic showing that love doesn't always happen once. I truly thought that was amazing and it left such a big impression on me. I mean I was rooting for her to stay with John Smith, but by the end of the movie I noticed that her choice was the right one, because she was following her heart, not the smooth path. I really love this movie and I have to say it's one of the bet Disney sequels I have watched.
