Why I don't use 'Progressive flag'
And why you should consider not to either.
Tumblr media
Short answer? It's not progressive. It's as simple as that. Oh, and it's ugly as hell. And the creator of the OG flag advocated to go back to the older flag before he died.
Tumblr media
Seriously, it's a nightmare of a design. Just like saying LGBTQIA2S+ is impossible to properly comprehend. It's simply too busy, too long, there's too much going on. By adding more letters or stripes we lose the meaning.
There are so many flags, are we going to add them all?
Tumblr media
The intentions are good, but unfortunately progressive flags are way less inclusive than any other rainbow flag.
You see, pride flag was always inclusive. It has always represented queer POC, and trans people and intersex and anyone else who see themselves as part of the LGBT+ community.
The idea in highlighting certain parts of community that are often left out and controversial in the community had it's reasons. Despite that it's a stupid ass decision that implies people of colour, trans and intersex weren't a part of the community. That the flag didn't represent them.
Tumblr media
In 1978, the artist Gilbert Baker, an openly gay man and a drag queen, designed the first rainbow flag, urged by Harvey Milk, one of the first openly gay elected officials in the U.S., to create a symbol of pride for the gay community. Baker saw the rainbow as a natural flag from the sky, so he adopted eight colors for the stripes, each color with its own meaning (hot pink for sex, red for life, orange for healing, yellow for sunlight, green for nature, turquoise for art, indigo for harmony, and violet for spirit).
Baker and a team of volunteers had made the first flag by hand, for the San Francisco Gay Freedom Day parade on June 25, 1978. Quickly he wanted to mass-produce the flag for consumption by all. However, because of production issues, the pink stripe was removed while indigo and turquoise merged to create basic blue, which resulted in the famous six-striped flag.
{source of slightly altered text about the history of the flag}
Since 2003 Gilbert Baker has been advocating to restore the flag to its original 8 stripe state. He died in 2017.
So here's my proposal:
Let's get back to the pink. Let's give it a new meaning. Let's put pink on the 6 striped flag for those of us who were thrown out, just like the pink was, because it was inconvenient to keep us. Nowadays it's not as hard to produce pink, so why not? It doesn't divide or alienate us more, it pays tribute to the old flag while also being distinct and new.

 ― Anansi themed pride flag
[Pt: Anansi themed black pride flag /End Pt]
✚⠀ Made this for myself but decided to share it because why not
✚⠀ Flag is meant to represent the resistance that black queers have in the LGBT space as well as society as a whole . Since white queers love giving unnecessary rules on being gay / trans this flag is pretty much a middle finger to that
✚⠀ Small rant ahead : I've always hated the idea that there are rules to be trans or gay , the concept of queerness and gender isn't something you can just control or keep in boxes , it's annoying to deal with it all the time . Idc if I'm not "valid" in your eyes , I'm trying to live
✚⠀ Btw the symbol in the middle is Anansi's web , an african symbol . Anansi is a spider god from african folklore and was also used as a symbol of resistance
✚⠀ THIS FLAG IS EXCLUSIVELY FOR BLACK PEOPLE . NO TRANSRACE EITHER GTFO

Lavenique / Laveniq by thegenderthieves
a term for all black and mixed black lesbians

Lavenique (lav-en-eek), also called Laveniq (lav-en-ick) is here!
It is designed for those that feel a disconnect from the lesbian label, typically due to the white-washing and white domination of lesbian history, and lesbian stereotypes - it’s open to use by any black or mixed black lesbian, and lavenique doesn’t gatekeep what lesbian as a term means unlike other terms, it’s all about your experience
Historically, black lesbians have been pushed out of lesbian spaces, many feeling completely excluded and choosing to use queer, sapphic, or gay as an alternative, so I wanted to make that alternative!
Black sapphics all participated in giving their input for the term! The symbol of a violet was the most popular option for a symbol, so there’s an optional variant of the flag using this symbol! Violets are symbol of lesbian love, given by sapphics to other sapphics as a symbol of being attracted to them
Stripe meanings:

I've also made black butch/stud, black femme, and black futch/stem flags

The Simorgh, an ancient Iranian symbol from the Sasanian dynasty, on the aroace flag!
Tumblr media
The Achaemenid falcon, an ancient Iranian symbol from the Achaemenid dynasty, on the aroace flag!
Two powerful symbols really befitting of the flag and aroace people!
P.S. I am from Iran! It is okay to use or like these. They are ancient symbols no longer in popular use but please do know and understand their cultural origin. Hopefully this will even prompt someone to look into Iranian ancient history!

Happy pride month !! ♡
I've been seeing a LOT of lesbians thirsting over vampires so I introduce my take(s) on a vampbian flag! (Both flags above are just diff versions. Wasn't 100% sure of what I was going for!)
Sorry if these look similar to other flags. I plan to make vampfemme and vampbutch flags probs!
Can be used by: vampgender lesbians, vampire fictives/introjects who are lesbians, and most importantly the lesbians who want a hot lesbian gf! (Or just like vampires)
I encourage all sapphics and achilleans to make vampire flags or flags abt anything they like! 🫶🏽
As always tags for reach

No one asked, and yet I have Delivered.
Just some Scott icons with some pride flags! Most selections deliberate, some random/for fun.
I've attached the bg-less panel I used incase anyone wants to make their own, but as always, ask and I'll get right on it!

Black Butch Flag and Butch Symbol by thegenderthieves
Continuing to repost some of my friends' stuff from their terminated accounts so that it's more easily findable (with their permission ofc) All text is pasted straight from the original coining!
Tumblr media
I (thegenderthieves) made a flag for the black butch community, it represents all black butches including the bulldyke and stud labels!
Black butches are so important to the sapphic and lesbian communities and we deserved a flag that unites all of us! It’s simply called the black butch community flag, or black butch flag
The colours are inspired by the dyke flag (you don’t need to have reclaimed dyke to use this flag ofc!), and both of the most common butch flags (orange/yellow, and blue/purple flags)
Meaning:
Black - black history and black sapphic history
Magenta/purple - lesbian and sapphic history, love of women and non-men, sapphic power
Dark purple - inclusivity of all sapphics, including trans, non-binary, mspec, aroacespec, and other sapphics
Light orange - butchness, gender non-conformity, solidarity and unity
Bull with labrys axe symbol - strength, rebellion, and liberation
My butch symbol (not black-exclusive):
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
My butch symbol is free to use on other flags (with credit). Both the symbol and flag can be made into emojis and used elsewhere without credit as long as you’re not claiming them as your own or using the flag for yourself as a non-black person!
Version with no symbol:
