Things to Look in for the Best Portfolio Management Services in India
Portfolio Management Service or PMS is an investment vehicle with a higher minimum investment requirement. PMS offers a customized portfolio for a large investible corpus.
There are a plethora of Portfolio Management service providers in India, and as an investor the options can seem overwhelming. So, for investors looking out for a good PMS scheme in India, keep an eye out for these points while making a decision:
SEBI registered: This may seem obvious, but ensuring valid registrations is a basic first step in the due diligence process. All PMS funds need to be registered with SEBI to function in India, so always check the SEBI website to ensure compliance. One can also contact the concerned investment company and ask to see a digital copy of their PMS license.
Strategy used and alignment: Investors should ask themselves – What are my investment goals? For example: If an investor is looking for long term returns then, a PMS fund that has a high churn rate with speculative gains would be a terrible match. This means any prospective investor should ask questions about the PMS fund’s investment and stock selection approach. There should be a match in terms of the investor’s investment objective and the PMS fund’s investment philosophy.
Past returns & Benchmarking: Past performance across years might be one of the main aspects that investors look for. However, one must keep the following in mind when looking at returns:
Observe returns across time horizons and keep in mind the date of inception of the fund. Many times, funds that have only been in existence for few months record exceptional returns that may or may not be sustainable. This offers a very skewed picture as the returns would only be exceptional for that amount of time. So, investors should always look at returns for 1 year, 3 years, 5 years, 10 years and since inception.
Investors must benchmark the PMS returns against indices and take note of the number of years as well as the number of times that the fund has outperformed the markets. This gives a good perspective on the numbers published by PMS funds, because it provides investors an understanding of the returns with a backdrop of the market conditions.
Reading the fine print is another good rule of thumb. Sometimes, the returns published exclude the tax, fees and other expenses, that an investor must incur before actually seeing any of the returns. So, always ensure that the returns published by an investment company are the ‘Net Returns’ and not ‘Gross Returns’
Hidden costs: As mentioned before, there are multiple expenses other than the fees that an investor has to incur – this includes the taxation, entry load, exit load, operational expenses etc. The expense ratio is always something that a prospective investor should understand- so that, there are no hidden costs.
Portfolio Manager’s background: An often overlooked point is to look at the portfolio manager’s professional and educational background. Someone with a rich background in the industry will have a better idea about the markets and would have a more reliable reputation. It also gives an understanding of the
References: Nothing beats word of mouth. No form of advertising can top the authenticity that comes from a past investor’s recommendation. So as an investor, you can always ask a PMS service provider to connect you with some of their clients to hear their experience. A basic online search for reviews will also give some perspective on the fund.

The Valley of Fear: The Warning
Originally serialised in The Strand from September 1914 to May 1915 and in US from September to November 1914 in supplements for various Sunday newspapers, the fourth Sherlock Holmes novel was first published in book form by the George H. Doran Company (now part of the Doubleday subsidiary of Penguin Random House) in February 1915 in the United States when that serialisation was done. The UK edition by Smith, Elder & Co. came out in June 1915.
The US version is the one on Wikimedia Commons.
The Greek version of E or "Epsilon" looks like this:

British libel law requires the defendant to prove the contested statement is true on the balance of probabilities, the reverse of the American requirement where the plaintiff must prove the statement is false and the defendant knew that.
The first asteroid had only been identified in 1801; that being Ceres, now officially a dwarf planet in the same category as Pluto, Eris, Sedna and some others. Most asteroids cannot be seen with the naked eye.
The problems of informing someone of the cipher being used and the message being sent without risking compromise has long been a challenge for cryptography.
More on book ciphers here, with spoilers for various other works including BBC's Sherlock:
The Bible not only has a vast range of editions, but it also a vast range of translations available. The standard version used in Church of England churches would be the King James Version and even that has different editions.
Bradshaw's would have a wider range of vocabulary in the city/town guides, but probably not enough for most messages.
Whitaker’s Almanac was an annual reference book published by various publishers, most recently Rebellion Publishing, between 1867 and 2021, it has been on indefinite hiatus since then.
It contained a lot of esoteric material. The 1887 guide includes things like:
The rising and setting times of the five planets visible with the naked eye every seven days.
A calendar of appointed Bible readings in churches for every Sunday.
The date of Easter for every year from 1500 to 2000.
The monthly wages of seamen out of the port of London from 1848 to 1885
A guide to the War Fleets of the World.
Income tax from 1842 to 1887 - it was 8d per £ over £100 in 1887, but nothing under that amount.
Railway stock prices.
The fastest and longest non-stop trains; the 4.17 (I assume pm) from Grantham to King's Cross took 1 hour and 58 minutes to cover 105 1/4 miles, at an average speed of 53 1/2 mph. Today, Hull Trains will get you there in 1 hour and 3 minutes, an average speed of 100mph!
Good and bad harvests... with the marriage rate in the same table.
Mahratta is an old spelling of Maharashtra, the Indian state that is home to Mumbai.
Scotchman was a contemporary term for Scotsman; today using "Scotch" to describe people is considered offensive by many Scottish people. It's fine for certain objects, like the drink.

"You can think well, love well, sleep well, if you have dined well." 1/2
Terraveller experience: comfortable stay with great food and friends for company when I travelled to Spiti from 22.08.2024 to 04.09.2024 (14 days).
Our travel circuit: Mumbai > Chandigarh > Narkanda > Sangla > Tabo > Pin valley > Rangrik > Langza > Komic > Hikkim > Kaza > Chandratal > Manali > Delhi > Mumbai.
DAY minus 1 MUMBAI TO CHANDIGARH 22.08.2024: by train.
Tumblr media
The peanuts of Bharuch are famous for their bigger size and best flavour. We skipped the train meals to enjoy a Domino's pizza.
Tumblr media
DAY 0 CHANDIGARH 23.08.2024:
A fully furnished and fully AC 3-BHK flat with 2 master bedrooms booked via AirBnb.
Tumblr media
We experienced a paranormal activity here.
Tumblr media
Our evening snacks at Khanna's Nukkad Dhaba at Zirakpur.
Tumblr media
We enjoyed the dinner at P. Bhagat Tarachand at Zirakpur.
Tumblr media
DAY 1 CHANDIGARH TO NARKANDA via Shimla 24.08.2024:
We had breakfast at Bikanerwala in Zirakpur, Punjab near Chandigarh.
Tumblr media
We reported with Terraveler at 10 am. Our driver Mr. OmPrakash Thakur was a local himachali person from Mandi.
Tumblr media
Lunch was the Verma's home stay and restaurant, after crossing Simla.
Tumblr media
We sipped tea watching this gorgeous sunset while our tempo traveler refueled.
Tumblr media
After a long ride starting at 10 am in the morning, we reached our destination, narkanda at 8 pm and we all were relieved to get out of the vehicle. We checked in the Treeline cottages at Narkanda.
Tumblr media
Even when we were tired, I got my friends out under the dark open sky to observe the Milky Way and the constellations of Scorpio and Sagittarius.
Afterwards, we headed for the dinner at the restaurant of Treeline cottages.
Tumblr media
We had breakfast overlooking the apple orchards which are nestled between the tall and dense conifers on the slopes of the mountains.
Tumblr media
DAY 2 NARKANDA TO SANGLA 25.08.2024:
After visit to Rampur Bushahr palace, which didn't even provide the tourists with public convenience we bought some fruits at the local market. These apples are from Thanedar, the birthplace of apples in Asia. They were fresh, crunch and juicy.
Tumblr media
We then headed to this restaurant on the highway. The split curds were the highlight of the menu.
Tumblr media
We were always sightseing even while traveling in the vehicle. Tosh was informing us about the importance of the places we were passing by. Sometimes, we halted for photos too.
We reached Chitkul, the last or the first Indian village along the Indo-Tibetian border. Again we were facing the problem of public convenience and I went ahead to find washrooms for our group of 14 at Chitkul. The first restaurant denied us, even when we were ready to be their customers. The second restaurant welcomed us and provided us with a clean washroom. In all this search, I made a deal with the second restaurant that I will ensure 14 tea &/or snacks are ordered by our group. Now after getting refreshed, it was announced that we have a time limit of half an hour and everyone opted to sightsee in Chitkul. I ordered my tea and waited for it to be served and then many friends sat at the table. Even if we may not be all 14 at the restaurant, the number was healthy and I was happy to give back to the restaurant, who welcomed us for the loo-break. In this bargain, I lost the time to see Chitkul, but Tosh was gracious to me allow a walk in the village. In fact, he came and showed us the old village too! I was happy, that I didn't miss anything - the tea or the sights.
Tumblr media
Afterwards, we backtracked to Sangla. Here we were staying in Hotel Prakash and our meals were at Hotel Prakash regency, which is just opposite it.
Tumblr media
Our dinner at Hotel Prakash Regency.
Tumblr media
DAY 3 SANGLA to TABO 26.08.2024:
Breakfast here at Sangla was with a view of Kinnaur Kailash mountain, which is always shrouded in clouds.
Tumblr media
We moved ahead and reached the devil shoulder, Mt. Reo Purgyil - which overlooks the sangam or confluence of River Spiti and River Sutluj at a place called Khab. The sun was hot and so was the lunch at this roadside dhaba which was managed by the woman power of that village.
Tumblr media
Rajma Chawal and Chowmein noodles are the staple dishes of this region.
Tumblr media
After the sightseeing the Nako village and the lake, we reached Tabo and checked-in at Lari village at bungalow, Samdup Khangsar Homestay. The hosts of this place were warm and gracious local folks, who welcomed us in their family and ensured that we as their guests had a fabulous experience. We stargazed from terrace of this bungalow.
Tumblr media
Dinner at Tabo (photo is awaited).
DAY 4 TABO to PIN VALLEY 27.08.2024:
Breakfast at Lari's bungalow home stay.
Tumblr media
We had traditional breafast of Tibetian bread (phaley) with a dollop of butter, spicy green chutney and curds. The fresh apricots were complimentary from the host.
Tumblr media
We reached Dhankar Gompa and Tosh of Terraveller offered us a choice between a trek to an high altitude Dhankar lake and lunch at the restaurant of the monastery. Few of us opted to trek and the rest enjoyed the lunch of thukpa and Tibetian omelette with bottled gauva juice.
Tumblr media
Those who trekked to Dhankar lake had a lunch of fresh plums and scenery. 13 people and a box of plums, literally.
Tumblr media
After tea at the Dhankar gompa's restaurant, we restarted our journey to one of the remote regions of Spiti - Pin Valley. We reached Mudh village in the dark around 8 pm and were dead tired from the arduous journey. Nobody clicked photos here at Sonam Tara Home Stay at Mudh village as we all were tired. Also the dinner photos were skipped. But there is a priceless memory which had been shared by a friend. Kudos to Tosh bhai of Terraveller.
Tumblr media
DAY 5 PIN VALLEY to RANGRIK (near Kaza) 28.08.2024:
We woke up fresh and our breakfast was here opposite our home stay at Tara Traveller's cafe at Mudh, Pin valley.
Tumblr media
Kaza was on the menu. We explored it on foot and Tosh recommended Cafe Piti for lunch. Though the service was late, it was made up by the courteous staff and the taste of the food served. There were fossils on display at this restaurant.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I have used photos graciously shared by my foodie friends, who also clicked good photos of places we stayed at. They allowed me to use their photos for this blog post. Those who contributed pictures are:
ND, DrPS, DrHS, DrKG, PN, SM & Terraveller, with whom we all had gone. (If I have missed anyone whose photos I have used and credits are not mentioned, it is unintentional & you may please bring to my attention. I will mention).
Part 2/2 continued...
PART 2 of the Spiti STARGAZING SIGHTSEEING JEEP SAFARI is here.

Outcome of Sudarshan Pharma Industries Limited Board Meeting: Equity Share Subdivision and Key Decisions
On September 30, 2024, Sudarshan Pharma Industries Limited (SPIL) held a Board of Directors meeting to discuss and approve several significant resolutions. The meeting, convened at the company’s corporate premises in Mumbai, brought forth decisions that are expected to enhance the company's shareholder value, particularly focusing on an upcoming equity share split, corporate restructuring, and the necessary shareholder approvals to formalize these actions.
The primary agenda of this meeting was the subdivision or split of the company's equity shares. SPIL currently has fully paid-up equity shares with a face value of ₹10 each. The Board has approved a proposal to subdivide each ₹10 share into ten ₹1 shares. This move is not just a nominal adjustment but is designed to enhance the liquidity of the company's stock on the open market. A share split of this nature often makes shares more accessible to smaller investors, potentially broadening the company’s shareholder base and increasing market activity. Of course, this decision is subject to final approval by the company’s shareholders, which will be sought through a postal ballot process.
To effectuate the share split, SPIL also plans to amend the capital clause of its Memorandum of Association. The Memorandum’s capital clause will be updated to reflect the newly altered structure, detailing the change from shares with a face value of ₹10 to those with a face value of ₹1. The amendment is another formality that requires shareholder approval, but it is a necessary step in restructuring the company's equity.
The Board also approved a detailed calendar of events for the proposed corporate action, outlining key dates for shareholders to participate in the postal ballot process and to cast their vote. The cut-off date for determining which shareholders will receive the postal ballot notice has been set for September 27, 2024. The postal ballot notice itself will be dispatched via electronic means by October 4, 2024, with remote e-voting opening on October 5, 2024, and closing on November 3, 2024. The results of the ballot will be officially recognized on November 4, 2024, after the scrutiny process is completed. To manage the voting process, the company has appointed Mr. Vishal Manseta, a practicing Company Secretary, as the scrutinizer.
In support of the split, the Board believes this corporate action will not only make the company's shares more affordable for small investors but will also improve overall market liquidity. The enhanced liquidity should broaden the investor base, a positive development for the company’s long-term growth trajectory.
The resolutions passed during this Board meeting also set in motion the alteration of SPIL's authorized share capital. Before the split, the company’s authorized capital stood at ₹35 crore, represented by 3.5 crore equity shares of ₹10 each. Following the proposed subdivision, the authorized capital will remain at ₹35 crore, but it will now be divided into 35 crore equity shares of ₹1 each. Similarly, the issued, subscribed, and paid-up share capital, which previously comprised 2.4 crore equity shares of ₹10 each, will become 24.06 crore equity shares of ₹1 each, post-split.
In line with regulatory requirements, SPIL has adhered to the disclosure obligations set by SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015. A detailed annexure providing the timeline for the share split and necessary amendments to the Memorandum of Association was enclosed with the official communication to the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE). Shareholders and interested parties can access further details on the company’s website, as well as on the BSE platform.
The meeting commenced at 6:30 PM and concluded at 8:30 PM, with all resolutions being passed unanimously. The decisions taken during this meeting mark a significant step in SPIL's efforts to restructure its share capital in a way that aligns with market dynamics and investor needs.
As Sudarshan Pharma Industries Limited continues to grow and evolve, these corporate actions demonstrate the company's commitment to enhancing shareholder value and increasing the accessibility of its shares to a broader segment of the investing public.
