Tree Farm
Tony S. x Reader
christmas | masterlist | oneshots
You were excited about Christmas. Every year you got the Christmas spirit before the first leaves of autumn fell. It brought back happy memories for you, that’s why when the season came, you practically dragged Tony with you to the Tree Farm.
Living between the compound in Upstate New York and the Tower in Manhattan had its challenges. Whereat the Tower, there were fake trees. Not many of you stayed there while it was colder, it was much more beautiful in the country. Therefore, no one would remember to take care of the trees. Knowing the rest of the family, someone would forget to water it, and then the Tower would be in flames. Almost happened one year when the men were in charge of Thanksgiving dinner. Let’s just say, it was a grilled cheese and chips kind of night.
Standing on the lawn waiting for Tony to pull the car around you laughed hysterically once you saw him.
“Baby. There is no way you Audi is going to be able to handle the tree.”
“We’re not getting a tree. We’re going to a farm to look at them and have fun with festivities.” Tony looked at you confused.
“Babe. A tree farm is to go and get a tree. That tree will be coming home with us and put in the main common room to be decorated and cared for by the entire family. We talked about this.” You sighed, slightly annoyed.
“I never said we were getting a real tree. Do you know how much of a mess they make? Let alone the care needed for it?” You took his keys from his hand.
“We’re getting a tree Mr. Stark or you’re not getting your holiday present I promised I’d give you after you finished tinkering in your lab. Or did you already forget?” A coy smile laid across your face. His eyes lit up, remembering that type of promise.
“Yeah, we’re getting the truck. A big ass tree is going to come home so I can get my present. Mhm, let’s go.” He dragged your hand towards the car as you laughed, smiling that you won.
Driving onto the property that took less than half an hour to get to was as if you drove straight into a Christmas movie. There were lights and rows of trees lightly dusted with snow from the morning. It was a gorgeous sight and not to mention the eagerness from your boyfriend made it all come together. Tony calmed down once he got coffee in his system. He gently took your hand and walked through the tree farm with you. At either of the rows were workers to come help chop and carry to the car.
“Do you like this one?” Tony asked kissing your cheek. It was a seven-foot tree standing before you.
“This should fit. Seven feet plus the tree topper should be able to fit. I really like this one.” Your smile beamed through your eyes. Tony wouldn’t admit it, but he loved watching you be this happy. It was a genuine pleasure he wished to have you keep twenty-four seven.
After placing the tree on the bed of the truck, making sure it was secure, you both headed through the barn to shop. After a few minutes of looking at ornaments, Tony dragged you to a back part of the farm where no one was. Gently pushing you against the wood building, he cupped your face sweetly.
“I love you, baby girl.” He smiled genuinely.
“I love you more, tin man.” You leaned up and kissed him.
Not even five minutes later, you were caught and asked to leave. According to Tony, “making out was a part of life and the children can just look away”. You wouldn’t change this day for the world.

In your memories, you were always following Fred Weasley around.
You followed him around when he and George were throwing dungbombs in their neighbor’s garden. You were six, and he was seven.
You followed him around when it was your first year at Hogwarts. You were an awkward first year, but he has already established quite a reputation.
You followed him everywhere. Whether it was a quidditch game or detention, you were always there with him. Some people called you his sidekick, but you never really minded because you were absolutely head over heels for him.
You knew he knew about your stupid little crush; you weren’t trying to hide your feelings anyway. And you knew that your feelings weren’t reciprocated, but that didn’t matter. Loving him was your own business. Plus, you knew that at least you meant something to him, so you’ve still got a chance.
You loved him with all your heart and without a doubt. It was one-sided and lonely, but you never cared. Well, at least not until now.
~
It was your party to celebrate receiving a brilliant job offer from America. All of your friends were there.
“I’m so happy for you! But I’m also gonna miss you a lot!” George exclaimed for like the twentieth time today.
You chuckled, “I know, Georgie, I’ll miss you too! And I’m not leaving until the end of the next month. I’ve still got a lot to take care of before I go.” Now that you were actually talking about leaving, the whole concept of living in another country so far away finally began to feel more realistic. “There are just so many things and people I’ll miss.”
“By people, you mean Fred, right?” Ginny teased, “Speaking of which, where is he?”
“I don’t know. He promised he would come,” you replied, couldn’t control the blush that was climbing up your cheeks.
Ginny was right. Of course you were going to miss all of your friends dearly, but you were also going to miss Fred just a little more than the others. And that’s why you were a bit disappointed that he was so late to your party. You couldn’t stop yourself from checking the clock and the door every now and then. The butterflies in your stomach started dancing whenever you heard something outside, but they always die down when you realized it wasn’t him.
The clock soon struck 12, and when you were saying goodbye to the last of the guests, you finally accepted the fact that Fred was not going to show up tonight.
~
You were helping at the joke shop the next day, and it was already noon when you heard Fred walking down the stairs.
“Morning,” you could still hear the sleepiness in his voice, and you could tell from his messy hair and puffy eyes that it was a hangover. You frowned a little but you tried not to overthink. Surely he had a good reason, right?
“It’s already noon, brother,” George asked the question for you, “where were you last night?”
“I ran into Lee after work, and we went to the pub. Why?”
“Why? It was Y/N’s party last night, you forgot?”
“Wait, it was last night? Ah shit, I forgot. I’m sorry Y/N,” he turned to look at you. You could see the sorry on his face, but you couldn’t hear it in his voice. You knew that expression all too well. It was the same reaction whenever he got caught playing pranks on someone. He was saying that he’s sorry, but you knew he didn’t mean it.
“Fred, you do realize that she’s leaving soon, right?” George was finding this unbelievable too.
“Oh c’mon, last time I checked, we still have something called a portkey. And I’m sure Y/N will be visiting us pretty often, right Y/N?” The carelessness in his voice stung you.
Hurt, mixed with anger, was rushing to your brain. It was the moment that struck you, a moment that should have happened a long time ago.
You always thought that even though Fred didn’t love you back, at least you were still a very important friend to him. But now you’ve finally realized that maybe this was just another self-comforting lie. It was not the first time he forgot something about you, and it seemed like he never cared anyway.
“What am I in your life?” You asked quietly, “Because as of lately, I feel as though I’ve been nothing to you.”
“What are you saying? Y/N, you’re not making any sense.”
“I always thought it’s alright that my feelings aren’t reciprocated because it’s just my own business. But I’m not just that stupid girl who has a crush on you; I’m also your friend! And friends shouldn’t treat friends like nothing.” Your voice sounded calm, but tears were streaming down your face, “It was always me who’s looking for you and thinking about you, but friendship takes two, Fred. Maybe you should start trying too.”
Then you just stormed out of the joke shop, before George could try to talk you round and before Fred could probably tell a joke to laugh it off.
~
One week later, you left for your new job in a hurry. You said goodbye to every one of your friends, except for Fred.
Fred was feeling guilty but also confused. Why did you snap like that? What he did was surely just a small mistake, right? And he wasn’t too worried. He was sure that you would forgive him and come back to him. You always do. In fact, he was convinced that he could see you again the next holiday.
Halloween night, George had plans, so Fred was in charge of closing up tonight. Looking at the empty bowl of sweets on the counter, Fred thought about you. You always remembered to fill it up, especially around Halloween.
The autumn wind was getting cold, and he pulled his coat tighter as he walked outside. The kids on the street were all dressed up, going from door to door trick-or-treating. Fred remembered how you two and George would always go trick-or-treating together on Halloween since you were kids. Even after you all grew up, you would still drag him to go with you. But now he was walking alone in his business suit, on his way home. This moment he felt as if the kid inside him has left with you.
When he got home, he turned on the TV and started switching channels absentmindedly. You should be there, suggesting to watch a horror movie, but then deciding on something family-friendly. You would always try to have a Halloween movie marathon but end up falling asleep, lying on his shoulder. He found it adorable, but he never told you that.
Fred sighed as he laid back on the couch. This was the first Halloween without you.
~
Christmas morning, Fred walked downstairs, noticing something was different in the air. The Burrow was quieter. Sure, most of his family were already up and were gathered around the Christmas tree, chatting and laughing. But you weren’t there.
You weren’t there, showing up at the Burrow way too early in the morning. You weren’t there knocking on his door and waking him up using a cheerful, sing-song voice. He would always groan and tell you to give him five more minutes. But this year, when he woke up to the mechanical sound of the alarm clock, he really missed your cheerful voice.
Fred walked downstairs with everyone wishing him a Merry Christmas, but his eyes were searching the crowd for a glimpse of you that was just impossible to be found. This was the first Christmas without you.
~
New Year’s Eve, Fred and George were at the local pub’s New Year countdown party, along with the other boys. Just like usual, the boys had too much drink and passed out in the pub.
When Fred was only half-awake, he heard your voice calling him, “Freddie! C’mon, let’s get you home!” A soft smile appeared on his lips. You were back! He knew you would be back for the new year. He knew you wouldn’t leave him for too long.
You were always there to pick him up and carry him home after New Year’s party. He was always amazed at how you managed to carry him as he was taller than you, but you were always there for him. He just felt so lucky now to have you in his life, and seeing you in front of him made him smile like an idiot.
You were frowning seeing him lying on the floor, but you soon gave in when you saw that smile. You chuckled and whispered, “Happy New Year, Freddie.”
The soft smile stayed on Fred’s lips. He felt at home.
When Fred woke up again, he found himself lying on the floor of the pub. The pub was already empty. The boys were already gone. Someone must have picked them up, but there was no one for him. He finally began to realize that it was just a dream. You were still in America, and he was still a loser who’s lying alone on the cold floor on the first day of the new year.
Fred managed to walk out of the pub. The freezing wind was slapping on his face, trying to sober him up. He walked past a coffee shop. That was your favorite.
You were all he could think of now. Fred knew that you had a crush on him, but he always believed that it was just a stupid little childhood crush and it would fade as soon as you all grow up. He was just too familiar with you, and familiarity wasn’t what he thought he was looking for in romance.
But you were already in every part of his life. No matter where he goes or what he does, you were always there. But now you weren’t.
There was the first time Fred told a joke, and you weren’t the first to laugh. He loved the way you laugh, for it could always brighten up his whole day, but he never admitted it.
There was the first time he was humming a song, and you weren’t there to sing along. He loved your voice, for it could always calm him down, but he wouldn’t tell you that.
There was the first time when he realized that he needed you in his life.
The first time when he realized that he loved you more than he thought he did.
It was like muscle memory for him to remember everything about you, but he wasn’t even aware of that, and you obviously didn’t know too. Instead of showing you how much he loved and appreciated you, he just took you for granted because he thought you would never leave.
Fred dialed your number that night. He thought he might go crazy if he couldn’t hear your voice tonight. As he waited for you to pick up, he felt the inside of his stomach were all twisted together, but it was soon replaced by butterflies when he heard your voice.
“Hello?”
“Hi, Y/N, it’s me, Fred,” he didn’t know why he stuttered, “S-so, I was wondering...do you know where is the photo of us at the station? It was your first year of school. Did you take it with you?”
“No, I gave it to George. Why?” He couldn’t tell your emotion through the phone. Were you annoyed? Or were you happy to hear his voice too?
“Oh, umm, nothing, just missing the old days.”
“Oh, okay...Anything else?”
There were so many things that he wanted to say. He wanted to tell you that he’s sorry and he missed you so much, but you sounded impatient. So all he managed to say was, “Happy New Year, Y/N.”
There was a few seconds of silence; then he heard you reply, “Happy New Year, Fred.”
Hanging up the phone, Fred felt his heart sank. He hated how emotionless you sounded, and he knew he had to do something. Maybe he couldn’t convince you to come back to him, but at least he owed you an apology.
~
Valentine’s Day. Evening, you walked out of the building you worked in. It was on a wizarding street just like Diagon Alley, so it didn’t take you too long to adjust to the new environment.
The shops on this street were all having Valentine’s specials, and it reminded you of the Valentine’s specials of Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes. Fred always had the most interesting and romantic ideas-you shook your head. You promised yourself not to think about him anymore.
A shop at the corner captured your attention. You’ve never seen this shop before. You looked for the name of the shop and the sign above read “WWW’.
Just when you thought you were losing your mind and associating everything with Fred again, the shop owner walked out.
Fred smiled when he saw you. The same beaming smile that had you head over heels for him for as long as you could remember. “Hi, I'm new here. Would you mind showing me around?”
~
A/N: Sorry if the ending feels a bit rushed! I felt like it made sense to end here so the reader could decide if she wants to forgive him or not.

Oh, That Imagination
Kids will always have active imaginations. But how the adult handles it depends on what the child is afraid of.

“Unca Donald, Unca Donald, Unca Donald!”
Even with the loud warning call, Donald still staggers when something blue collides against his leg. “Dishes! I’m doing dishes. Go and sit on the counter please.”
6-year-old Dewey gave a quick nod before clamoring up. The older duck impressed by how quickly the duckling could climb.
“Now, what can I help you with?”
“Benny said there’s a-a monster living in the sewage of Duckberg! I wanna go catch it!”
Donald let out a low hum as he washed the soap from the glass. This was twice in two weeks that neighbor Benny had told some story about some ‘creature’ they had seen. Dewey, always on the lookout for new adventures, ate each story up with determination and gusto.
“I see, very interesting. What does this monster look like?”
“Like...Like an alligator. Only bigger!”
“Ooooh, that sounds scary. And you’re going to catch them all by yourself?”
“Yep!”
“Well, aren’t you brave. Are you going to bring them back to be studied for science?”
“I’m gonna do it to rub it in Huey’s face. Cuz he says the creature isn’t real. But I’m gonna prove him wrong!”
“It sounds like your afternoon is full.”
“It sure is! Oh, wait, I wanted to ask you if we have a large net that I could use?”
“I don’t think we have a ‘large’ net. You’ll have your bug catching net.”
Dewey let out a contemplative hum. Hand resting on his cheek while his pointer finger tapped out some unknown tempo. A habit he picked up from José. “That’s not great. But I suppose it’ll have to do.”
“Look at you compromising. What are you going to use as bait?”
“Do we have any old lunch meat?”
“No and you’re not using what we have in the fridge.”
“You’re ruining the search Unca Donald! I need bait.”
“How about you take Tio Panchito with you? He had to help his grandpa search for farm animals when they got out of their pens. Didn’t have to use bait to get those animals back.”
“Tio worked on a farm?” Dewey’s eyes lit up hearing this new piece of information.
“Spent a few childhood Summers there.”
“What did he do?”
“Why don’t you go and ask him? I’m sure he would be more than happy to share stories with you and your brothers.”
“Okay, bye Unca Donald! I’m gonna learn about cows!”
Donald silently laughed as Dewey raced out of the kitchen. Childhood stories continued during dinner and only ended when the triplets were put to bed.
“So...should I question why Dewey furiously ran at me this afternoon? All while screaming his demands for me to tell stories?” The rooster asked as Donald joined him and José on the living room couch.
“Apparently, Benny had seen some ‘creature’ in the sewer system. Dewey determined that he was going to hunt said being down. I told him you would help in the search because you’ve helped with finding lost farm animals. That caught his attention and now you know the outcome.” Donald sighed as he leaned against the other, relaxing.
“Do you think the thrill of the hunt will call out to Dewey tomorrow?”
“We’ll see.” Donald replied back simply.
The hunt did not call out the next day. Dewey focused on creating a backyard zoo, he didn’t have time to worry about some creature. A few days later, a pet iguana was rescued from the neighborhood sewers. It appears Benny had actually seen something. It just wasn’t the towering creature he’d claimed before.
________________
The holidays were busy for all the adults in the household. Donald focused on getting the shopping done and holding down the fort while the ducklings raced around during their school break. Gleefully talking about Santa and what present they’re excited most about. José would be gone for weeks on end leading up to December 25, helping with numerous flights to make sure he had that day off. Starting from October through December, this time saw Panchito with booked weekends of different performances to help get other families into the festive feeling.
Even with having busy and exhausting schedules, they made sure to make time for the triplets. Baking, decorating the house, helping them pick out gifts for the other family members. Every year it was the goal to keep the ducklings as happy as possible.
Which is why Panchito became worried when 7-year-old Louie started acting...strange. Almost what the rooster would call ‘stressed’.
The duckling had started being overly helpful around the house. Doing more tasks than what would be required. Going out of his way to ask if he could help. And, most worriedly, he’d become quiet. Not in his normal way of just relaxing in front of the television. But almost fearful that he was being listened to by some unseen stranger. Eyes even darting around as he moved through the apartment.
Unfortunately, Panchito wasn’t able to approach this possible problem until a weekend late into the duckling’s break.
The rooster let out a sigh as he collapsed onto the couch. Thankful that he was done until the New Year’s celebrations he had the coming weekend. But he was able to relax for the rest of the week to celebrate Christmas. Cautious footsteps drawing closer caused Panchito to open his eyes. Finding Louis standing nervously in the middle of the room.
“Hola Louie, what can I do for you?”
“Um, do you need me to get you anything?”
Panchito raised a brow. “No, I’m fine. Why don’t you join me until dinner’s ready?”
“Oh, um, that’s okay. Maybe I should see if Uncle Donald needs any help.”
“You’re on break. Why don’t you just sit for a while?” The duckling frowned, eyes darting around before settling onto the couch. Still tense. “So, how has school been? I haven’t heard you and your brothers talk about it for a while.”
“Uh...good.”
“Just good? ...Try out any new schemes lately? I know Uncle Donald isn’t so thrilled when you do that. But you always have such clever ideas, makes me laugh.”
“Nope, I’ve been good! No crazy plans from me!”
Panchito sat up a little more when Louie started shouting at the ceiling. “Okay Louie, what’s going on. Are you feeling okay? Did something happen at school?”
The duckling dressed in green wrung his hands as he peered around.
“...Abby told me about the Krampus…” Louie eventually whispered.
“The who?”
“The Krampus! He’s the opposite of Santa Claus! A big creature with long horns and wears a cloak! And he comes after bad boys and girls! He takes them away in his large, greasy bag and they’re never seen again and-”
“Okay, Louie, come here. You’re getting yourself worked up.” Panchito easily and quickly moved the duckling onto his lap. Wrapping arms around the smaller form to help keep Louie grounded. “Breath with me. We’re going to take a few deep breaths, okay?”
Louie gave two quick nods. They remained this way for a few minutes, Panchito holding the duckling close and controlling his breathing for Louie to follow. The rooster only pulled away when Louie had calmed down enough to talk. “Okay, so, you were told a scary story. Why are you worried?”
“Because he goes after bad kids and I know I’m...not good.”
“Why would you say that? You’re a wonderful kid!”
“But I get the most detentions and I’m lazy and I know I don’t do my homework when I need to and-”
‘Louie… Yes, we would like you to work a little harder than what you do now. But you’re not bad. You...take risks. You have a point of view that I’ve never seen before. You’re a clever kid. And, well, between you and me.”
Panchito leaned closer. Louie’s eyes widened with curiosity. “You fight the system and you don’t let them beat you down.”
“...Does that mean I don’t have to wash the dishes?”
“Don’t push your luck. What I’m trying to say is that you’re not bad. You just think differently than others. Plus, if you’re this worried, this might be a sign you should help out more. But I doubt any Krampus will come after you.”
“Really?”
“Really… Also, you know your uncles and I would beat up any creature who dares try to hurt you.”
Louie laughed. Beaming and squirming as Panchito placed a kiss on his cheek. Christmas Day arrived with no mysterious creatures knocking in their front door. Louie was still safely tucked away in his bed. Joining his brothers with running out to the living room and unwrapping presents. Curling next to Panchito as all enjoyed the afternoon glow while watching a marathon of movies.

Huey took to the Junior Woodchucks like a duck to water.
From day one it became a large part of his identity. He carried his handbook around with him everywhere. Writing his own notes and entries to add to the already thick volume. Gleefully patting his knees as he patiently waited for whatever uncle was going to take him to the weekly meetings. Even learning how to iron his uniform to keep it in tip top shape.
Dewey may complain that the eagerness was annoying. But nothing seemed to damper Huey’s spirit.
Until Huey was tasked to write a speech. As he was top ranked among the troop, he was given the honor of addressing the new member that would be joining that year. A banquet being held with the duckling presenting a speech of his own at the beginning of the event. The duckling was absolutely thrilled at first. Telling everyone he could about the great honor bestowed onto him.
All in the family thought he would triumph over this just like many other things in his life.
José was humming softly one evening, making his way to the kitchen when he heard sniffing coming from the bathroom. The door opened a crack and, taking a risk, José peered in. He found 8-year-old Huey, curled up by the tub and far away from the door. A stack of paper was at the duckling’s feet. Red rimmed eyes glaring at said stack.
“Huey?”
Said duckling’s head snapped up hearing José. Wiping his eyes frantically. “T-Tio José…”
“Criança doce, what is wrong?” José entered, leaving the door open in case Huey wanted out.
The duckling sniffed weakly. “...I’m scared.”
“Of what?”
“My speech…”
José frowned, knowing how excited Huey had been only a few days ago. “Can you tell me what you are scared about?”
Huey let out another sniff. His hand starting to hit the side of the tub as time went on. Which José put a stop to by reaching out to take the duckling’s hand. “I’m scared...that people are going to laugh at me. I keep practicing my speech to make it perfect and I read a bunch of tips but… All I can think about is messing up and people mocking me. Then my scout leader will see me as a failure and strip me of my badges and-”
The parrot pulled the duckling closer, humming a lullaby softly. Huey instantly clung to José, burying himself away in his guardian’s chest. It took a few minutes before the duckling finally relaxed, slumped against the older, hand still keeping a good grip on José's shirt.
“Huey, I would like for you to listen to me. Can you do that for me?” José received a nod, “I will help you with your speech. But you have nothing to worry about. Your scout leader seems to be nothing of the kind who would take away what you’ve achieved. And no one will laugh. We all know you will be doing your best.”
“...But what if my best isn’t enough?”
“It always will be Huey. Never doubt that.” José peered up hearing the floorboards creek. Finding Donald standing in the doorway wearing a look of worry. The parrot gave a quick shake of his head. A silent message that he had a handle on the situation. Donald gave a nod of his own before sneaking off. “Feeling better?”
“...A little. I’m still scared.”
“That is fine. How about we make some cookies? I think I saw your Uncle Donald heading that way before. And while we are doing that, you can show me your speech.”
Huey sniffed weakly. Pulling back slightly to look up at José. “Chocolate chip?”
“Of course.”
The duckling smiled weakly and nodded. Donald greeted the two with wide arms and a smile when they walked in. Huey beamed as he was picked up and given a sturdy hug from his other uncle as José started the process. But uncles gave Huey their undivided attention when he gave his speech. The other members of the family joined them as the cookies started to bake. Dewey and Louie keeping their ‘helpful’ comments to themselves and clapping along when Huey finished.
At the night of the banquet, Huey beamed as he gave a flawless speech. His family cheered the loudest.
________________
“This is such a bad idea.”
9-year-old Louie huffed, rolling his eyes as Huey bemoaned at his flawless plan. “If you’re going to be a stick in the mud, then don’t watch.”
“But I want to see it.”
“Then what’s the issue?”
“The movie is PG-13! We need parental guidance to watch.”
“You know they won’t let us watch.” Dewey added.
“But-”
“You get two options here Hubert,” Louie interrupted. One hand holding up a finger to keep Huey quiet. The other holding the latest zombie movie that had just recently been release to DVD, “You either watch with your mouth shut. Or you leave and keep your mouth shut in the bed while you listen to the amazingness that is this movie from the closed doors. What’s it going to be?”
Huey frowned. But he ‘zipped’ his bill closed and crossed his arms. Which the green-hoodied triplet took as keeping his mouth shut. With a nod, Louie popped the movie in and sat next to his brothers. All three were huddled together in the closet. Eyes glued to the small t.v. screen that was crammed in with them as well. The movie menu soon appeared and Dewey pressed play.
Donald let out a content sigh as he relaxed further between his partners. Panchito clinging to him as Donald’s head was tucked under the rooster’s chin. While José was curled up at Donald’s side, using the duck’s chest as a pillow. That night was quiet and calm. There was a weekend ahead of them that was just filled with nothing. A relaxing time with his partners and kids. It was going to be great…
A chorus of screams sounded from the triplet’s room. All adults were up and racing out in only a few seconds. Even hard to wake José was on full alert. Donald reached the door first, flinging it open. Fully expecting to see an intruder standing in the middle of the bedroom. Only to find Huey and Louie, sobbing as they clung to each other on the younger triplet’s bed. Dewey was waving his plastic sword at the open closet. His entire being was shaking as wide, fearful eyes were on the open space.
“What is going on here?” Donald called out over the noise.
“There’s a zombie in the closet!” Louis answered.
“It touched me!” Huey added.
“I’m fighting it off!” Dewey finished.
“What- okay- Dewey stop swinging that around!” Panchito walked over and pulled the sword from the duckling. Collecting the blue cladded triplet as he continued to shake.
Donald gathers the other two. Both of them desperately slings to the protection that was their uncle. José took to the closet, making sure it was empty. The parrot raised a brow, finding the t.v. that was still on and playing a movie.
He reached in to eject the movie and brought it out for the other two to see. “Donald.”
The duck looked it over. Frowning, seeing the topic, letting out a slow breath. It was clear the triplets were in no condition to have a stern talking to. Plus, he was honestly too tired to worry about it at the moment. “Okay...let’s go back to our room.”
The other two adults nodded. José turned off the lights as he was the last to leave the boy’s room. Donald rested himself back into the middle of the bed, only with more bodies pressed around him. Panchito cleverly left the bedside light on before he laid down on the bed, Dewey resting on his chest. The triplets flinched when José walked in.
“It is just me.” The parrot assured.
Donald let out a sigh as he gently preened the top of each head. “You’re safe here. Nothing’s going to get you.”
The bed was pressed further down as José laid down. Huey clamoring over into the parrot’s hold. Donald was free to wrap both arms around Louie. Three voices began to hum a familiar lullaby in hope of calming the triplets further. Even with their comforting presence, it took awhile for the three to fall asleep. It was not the way Donald wanted to start his weekend. But he should have known nothing he plans ever goes his way. Even with this hiccup, he was happy to have his family close. Falling asleep with a smile on his face.
Donald was able to take his pent up frustration on the idiot who had allowed children to rent a horror movie. Panchito coming as back up to make sure the duck didn’t kill anyone.

Falling For You - Part 1
Pairing- Dean x Lisa(past), Female!Reader x OMC Justin(past), Eventual Dean x Female!Reader
Word Count-3019
Warning- Mentions of cheating, slight angst. This is going to be a bit of a slow burn.
A/N- I had an idea for a one shot, and giving a backstory to Dean and the Reader meeting took on a life of its own. This story is AU, and un beta’d.
Summary- After being burned before you had sworn off finding love for now. Coming home from work one night there is a strange man pounding on your door. Neither of you knew what this meeting would lead to.
Series Masterlist
It had been a long day at work and you just wanted to get home to your couch, although you knew that would have to wait. The apartment needed some cleaning, and you needed to wash laundry too. You had put it off, work keeping you busier than usual the last 2 weeks, and you really should go hit the gym. You had been slacking there too.
The elevator was being inspected when you walked in the building so you had taken the stairs Reaching your floor you were surprised to find a man standing in front of your door continuously knocking. Slowing walking over you looked around, no one else seemed to be near. Knowing the time, your neighbor across the hall, Jess was probably on her way home from work, you weren’t completely certain about her fiancé though. The other two apartments on this level kept to themselves.
“Hi, Can I help you?” You cautiously asked.
“Nope.”
“Are you sure?”
The greenest eyes you had ever seen turned to look at you with a grin forming. “Thanks, but I’m just waiting for my brother to let me in, unless you want to give me your number for later?”
“I’m good thanks, but why is your brother letting you in there?” You didn’t get any danger vibes from this guy, so you weren’t too worried about standing here talking to him yet.
“Well miss nosey, it’s because he lives there.”
“I don’t think he does.”
“Really, and how would you know anything?” The man back to pounding on your door.
Before you could respond Jess’ fiancé Sam came running up the steps sweaty from his evening jog.
“Dude, you weren’t supposed to be here till tomorrow, and why are you blocking Y/N’s door?” Sam unlocked his door across from you and went to hug his brother.
The man backed away from him, “Seriously man? You’re sweaty and gross, shower first. I needed to get out of there, and traffic on the way up was pretty light. You told me you and Jess were 44.”
“No Dean, I told you we were 43. We live on the fourth floor in the third apartment number 43. You weren’t listening,” Sam turned to you still unable to get into your apartment. “Sorry Y/N, this is my older brother Dean. He just got up here from Kansas, he’s staying with us for a little while. I’ll get him out of your way,” He leaned down to grab one of Dean’s bags before heading into his apartment.
Dean turned to look at you then looking at your door before he leaned down to pick up the other bag. “Oops!” With that he headed into the open apartment and shut the door. Shaking your head you went to unlock your own door.
Heading to your bedroom after setting your things down, you figured if you didn't get your workout done first it wasn’t going to happen. Quickly changing you grabbed some laundry and went to throw a load in the washer so the first load would be done when your workout was finished. Very thankful to have a washer and dryer in your apartment. Grabbing your key you headed the gym on the ground floor. An hour on the bike left you feeling a little better, getting out some of your frustrations.
Back inside your apartment you changed the laundry and started on your dusting and window washing before vacuuming. Finally finished, you headed for a shower to clean off the dirt and sweat.
All clean you ventured to the kitchen to see what you could whip up for dinner. When a knock at your door pulled you away. Who could be here now you wondered.
Opening the door you came face to face with Mr green eyes again. Shoot, what did Sam say his name was.
“Your brother still lives across the hall.”
“Yeah, I’m sorry about that. I swear Sammy told me it was 44. I just wanted to come say I was sorry for bothering you earlier. I know the right place now.”
“It’s fine. Have a nice visit.”
“Thanks it’s not really a visit. I’m Dean, like he said, I’m his older brother.”
“Y/N, the neighbor. Nice to meet you Dean.” Holding out your hand to Dean his bigger hand engulfed it in a firm shake.
“Would you let me take you out for a bite to apologize for my first impression?”
“I don’t know if that’s a good…”
“It’s not a date,” He hurriedly cut in. “It’s just, I mean, you seem like a nice person, and you would probably be a great date, but it’s not. It will just be food I swear. Tomorrow afternoon, or night? I don’t know if you have big Saturday plans?”
“Shouldn’t you be spending time with your brother?”
“He has a work dinner with Jess they can’t miss.”
You thought about it for a moment. You had been friends with Sam and Jess a little while now and trusted them, so you should be able to trust his brother. “I’m supposed to go dress shopping with my friend Meg, tomorrow. We should be done by 6 if you really want to grab some dinner.”
“Sounds good, sweetheart, I’ll knock on your door again then.”
“Okay, goodnight Dean. Oh and welcome to Michigan.” Shaking your head you shut the door to go back to your search for tonight’s dinner.
The fridge was pretty empty, you didn’t even have any frozen microwaveable meals left. Looks like grocery shopping just became part of your weekend plans. Settling on a bag of popcorn, it is a vegetable of sorts, somehow right? You finally headed for the couch and turned on the Hallmark Channel to see if there was a movie you could get lost in for the rest of the evening. Before you know it, it was time for bed so you could get an early start on tomorrow.
It was an honor to be asked to be the Maid of Honor, right? You needed to keep reminding yourself of this as you wandered through the dress shop the next day with Meg. Meg was a friend from elementary school and sometimes you think you are the MoH because many others would not have been able to handle this process with her. She could be a little blunt and rude, but you were used to this and could take the wedding craziness coming from her. 5 hours and two shops later she finally found the perfect dress for herself. You couldn’t be happier since you had already spent two other Saturday’s out searching.
Her fiancé Cas, thankfully had the patience of an angel. They had met when Meg left for college in Kansas, he was a year older than her. After graduation he had followed her back up here. Six years later, Cas finally got her to say ‘yes’. She seemed to be a better person with him around, a little kinder. They would be good for each other and you were very happy for them.
Your love life on the other hand, was not so lucky. Two months ago, you had broken up with your only serious boyfriend. A night out with friends had ended in tears when trying out the new bar in town. You had turned around in time to see a flash of Justin in a corner booth, walking over you found him lip locked with another woman. You stood there shocked for a moment when the woman noticed you staring and commented on it. A look of shock on Justin’s face as he quickly moved away from her and tried to explain The rest of your drink ended up on him as you walked out of the bar. Meg having seen the whole thing took you home and kept your now ex out when he came over to try and talk to you. The guys you had been out with before him, hadn’t done much for your faith in men either, having made the choice to give up dating for now. You were two years away from thirty, and had always thought by now you would have settled down. Maybe that wasn’t in the cards for you.
It was only a little after three so you decided to stop at the grocery store on the way home, this way you wouldn’t need to run out tomorrow. You would be able to just enjoy a day at home. Arriving home you pulled into your assigned spot and went to empty your car, you were one of those people who tried to carry everything in one trip. At least the elevator passed yesterday’s inspection and was running today, or it would be a challenge carrying everything at once up 4 flights of stairs. Although you couldn’t open your door with your hands full and keys in your pocket. Freeing a hand you finally worked it open as the door opened behind you.
“Need a hand?” Turning around Dean was standing in the doorway leading to the opposite apartment.
“You don’t have to, half the challenge was getting it up here.”
“I know I don’t have to,” As he finished talking Dean leaned down to pick up the discarded bags. “Dinner for tonight or are we still good to go?”
“Still good to go, I just had an empty fridge and decided to hit the store today and enjoy tomorrow.”
Dean set the bags on the counter and started to unpack them. Looking at the various items he turned to you holding up molasses and baking soda, “These aren’t your typical dinner items.”
“No, this is me getting a head start on what I need for Christmas baking. I know it’s the start of October, but December comes quick, and I like to have my baking done for my family’s Christmas party the first weekend of December.”
“You bake?”
“Yes, I actually really enjoy it.”
“So what all do you make cookies, cakes, pies maybe?”
Laughing at the hopeful look in his eye at the last item you nodded your head. “Yes, those plus bars, and different candies. Christmas I do the most, although not usually pie for that. Different holidays or events vary, or when I’m in a funk and just want to get lost in my kitchen.”
“Ever need a pie tester, I’ll gladly volunteer.”
“I’ll keep that in mind.” The groceries unloaded Dean looked around before heading out saying he would be back at six. Glancing at the clock you saw it was almost five and decided to hop in the shower to get cleaned up.
There was a knock on your door right at six, dressed casually in jeans, a sweater and tall black heeled boots you opened it to see Dean smiling at you. Also having gone casual with jeans and a dark green henley. “Ready to go, Y/N?”
“Yep, all set. So where are we going Mr. Winchester?” Dean turned, giving you a funny look, as you got into the elevator “What?”
“How do you know my last name? Been looking into me?”
“You’re Sam’s brother, right? I kinda thought they would be the same.”
“Oh, yeah, true. As for our destination, I thought I’d surprise you.”
You screwed up your face but just nodded. You didn’t want to come across as rude to whatever he was thinking. Getting in the car he turned to look at you, “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing.” There wasn’t much you hated more than surprises.
“Your face said otherwise a minute ago.”
“I was just thinking about something else, all good here,” You gave him a smile before looking out the window.
A short while later you pulled up outside a bar you hadn’t been to in a few months. Quietly getting out of the car you followed Dean inside. “Sam told me about this place, he said it was fairly new, but the food is good. Have you been here yet?”
“Once, but I wasn’t here long enough to eat.” It was early enough still it wasn’t too busy yet, Dean heading over to a booth asking if that was alright. You agreed and sat across from him. After ordering drinks and food it was a little awkward between the two of you. This wasn’t a date, what was it. You didn’t know the man so it wasn’t even friends hanging out. Not wanting to sit in silence any longer you decided to break it.
“How long are you visiting for?”
“I’m working on moving up here actually, I’m staying with Sam and Jess while I look for a place and find some work. Then I’ll head back to Lawrence with Sam and we’re going to drive my stuff back.”
“Oh wow, like the mitten state that much huh?”
Dean was quiet for a moment before answering, it almost seemed like he was having an internal battle on how to respond. “I needed a change and my brother and best friend both moved up here. Sam and I were pretty close growing up, and it would be nice to be near him again. My parents are still in Kansas but have talked about moving for a while. I can see them heading up here if Sam and Jess are here, especially if they end up having kids. I guess I’m going before I get left behind.” There was a sadness in his eyes that told you something was missing from his story.
“What kind of work are you looking for?”
“I actually was in business with my dad before I left. Owned an auto repair shop and we specialized in classic car restorations. Dad’s keeping the shop, but I’m guessing he’ll retire in a year or two and sell it. Going to see if anyone around here is hiring for now. How about you, what is it that you do?”
“Oh, I work at a physical therapy clinic in the business office. It’s usually a nice 9-5 job, but we had someone leave unexpectedly in the front office so I’ve been filling in for her and trying to do my work too. Makes for some later days. Someone new is starting next week so once they are trained it should calm down again.”
Dean was watching you and noticed you were doing your best to avoid looking around the bar, your focus either him or the table. “Is there someone you don’t want to see you here? A boyfriend I should worry about coming to beat me up? What’s up?”
“No, nothing like that.” Taking a deep breath you look up at Dean, “This place doesn't have great memories for me. The one time I was here I caught my then boyfriend making out with someone else. It was definitely a surprise, I wasn’t a fan of surprises before, but that was one of the worst I could have.”
“I’m sorry, I guess I should have checked the place with you first.”
Reaching across the table you put your hand on top of Dean’s, “No it’s okay. I really should just get over it anyways. It’s stupid on my part, right?”
“Not at all Sweetheart,” Dean turns his hand over giving yours a squeeze. “I understand to well how much that stings.” Letting out a deep breath he continues, “I had been dating this girl for over a year. Thought she was it ya know. I came home from work early to surprise her one day and found her in our bed with another guy.”
“Oh Dean, I am so sorry!”
He gave you a little smile before continuing, “It was my house. I kicked her out and put it up for sale, packed up my stuff and ended up storing it at my parents while I was staying in my childhood bedroom. I just couldn’t stay there. Got lucky it sold in a few months. I would see the two of them all around town and needed to get out of there. Sammy, and my childhood best friend, Cas like it up here so I decided to give it a shot”
“Wait, Cas? Is he engaged to Meg?”
“Uh, yeah why?”
“She’s my best friend, I’m her maid of honor. I’ve met Cas, he’s a great guy.”
“Yeah, she’s good for him. Takes him out of his comfort zone. Good for them, me on the other hand. I don’t see myself dating anytime soon.”
“Me either, I don’t have the best luck with relationships. I’m sorry for what you went though, you didn’t deserve that.”
“Neither did you.” You both sat there taking in what the other had said.
Dean spoke first, “I wouldn’t mind making a new friend though. Especially if she needs any taste testing when baking.”
Laughing before leaning back against the booth more relaxed than you had been, “I think new friends are good.”
Deciding it was time to lighten the subject you asked him another question. “So what brought Sam up here? I know Jess was from Indiana, not here either.”
“After law school Sam had been offered a position in a big firm in Ann Arbor, which I guess is like 30-40 minutes from here. Jess didn't want to live in the bigger city, she wanted to be in a little smaller town if they could. She said they did big city living in California during college and could visit Ann Arbor, or Chicago from here. Sam liked the idea of that too. I think they are both thinking of where they want to raise kids eventually”
“This is a good town to grow up in, I did. Why they moved here never came up in conversation. I’ve hung out with her and Meg before, and neither mentioned Sam and Cas were from the same town.”
The two of you spent the rest of the night talking and laughing more at ease knowing where the other stood. It was after 11 when Dean pulled back into the apartment parking lot. This had been one of the best nights you had had in awhile.

As patient as he is Jungkook can’t wait for your nightly call. You try to stay off your phone for the most part being back home, leaving time to talk to Jungkook only when it’s dark out. Of course, some days you miss him so much that you break that rule to sneak in a couple of texts or photos. Today’s not one of them.
Unfortunately, he had missed your earlier call. Horrified seeing two notifications of your failed attempts to reach him, he’s decided not to do anything else till he hears your voice.
Jungkook shoves a spoonful of Suga’s homemade microwave spaghetti into his mouth, eyes not leaving his phone.
“You’re staring at that thing so hard the screen’s going to crack.” Suga judges him from across the table.
“I’m expecting a call.”
“Yeah, I know.” He sighs, “But it’s not like your phone’s on silent. It’ll ring once she⎼”
Jungkook jumps within the first few seconds of his phone lighting up, your name flashing across the screen. Leaving Suga to himself, he rushes into the room and takes a deep breath before accepting the call. “Hi.”
“Hey you.” Your chirpy voice makes him smile. “Missed you earlier.”
“I know, sorry. Was busy. Did you have fun today?”
“It was okay. We got a cute little tree and I managed to do some really last minute shopping because I just found out my cousins will be here tomorrow night.” You sigh. “Did you miss me?”
“So much. I hate being apart, you know that.”
“Well I did offer you to come home with me.”
Jungkook had declined again. He doesn’t think it’s the best time to introduce himself to your family yet. Though, he had no qualms about letting your dad know. Funny enough, you decided not to. But you’re certain you heard your grandmother telling him about the couple photo you have as your homescreen.
“Maybe next time.” He hums, thinking about the possible future.
“I think my dad will like you.” The sound of your giggles has him cheesing so hard.
“Is that why you chickened out on telling him about us?”
“I did not! The timing isn't right.”
“Sure baby.” He laughs. “You’re not embarrassed of me are you?”
“I’m embarrassed someone like you is even interested in me.” You both laugh and let the silence engulf you. “You know I love you right? I hope we can spend the holidays together next year.”
“I hope so too.” There’s a tiny amount of sadness in there if you’re listening right.
“I might not be able to call you the next few nights. Since my cousins will be over. I promise to text though.” You say.
“That’s okay.” You hear the smile in his voice. “Just have fun okay? I’ll be here when you get back.”
“One more week.”
“Right. One week. Seven days. I’m sure I can handle being without you till then.”
“Merry christmas my love.” You send him a kiss over the phone.
“Merry christmas to you too.”
When the call ends ten minutes later, he trots back outside, face looking even worse than before. Suga, now done with his food, shakes his head disapprovingly as Jungkook takes his seat and goes back to the sad, cold dish in front of him. “You’re pathetic.”
𝄖
Jungkook holds his breath as the train slowly comes to a stop at the platform. Yesterday was the first day of the new year, which means today’s the day you come back. He’d planned out his route. First he’d get coffee and bagels to-go with chocolate danishes for you, in case you hadn’t had anything during the long trip. Then a short stop at the florist to get you a single rose before going off to the station.
It gets messy as everyone starts alighting and he struggles to catch you among the crowd. That’s when you come into view, head popping out between other random faces, wrapped in a beanie and scarf. Your face lights up when you see him, making hurried steps and dragging your luggage behind you.
“Jungkook!” You squeal, running into his arms.
He kisses the side of your face. “Hey stranger.”
“I’m so happy to see you.” You say, squeezing him tight. “How are you?”
“You’re asking me that as if we aren’t constantly texting each other.” He laughs, handing you the rose and letting you cling onto his arm with your luggage in his other hand, headed for the car.
“I know I’m just trying to break the ice.”
Inside the comfort and warmth of the car, he kisses you deeply. Something he’s been looking forward to for the last three weeks. “How’s that for breaking the ice?”
You roll your eyes but a smile plays at your lips as you properly adjust the seat belt. Gasping when you’re handed chocolate danishes, you pout at him, “You’re so sweet. Come here.” It earns him more kisses which he happily accepts.
In the back seat you notice an odd shaped item, in purple wrapping, done quite messily. “What’s that?” You ask knowingly.
“A surprise.”
“I have one for you too.” You smile smugly.
“Yeah? Can’t wait.”
On the way back, you give him a run down of what went on back home. When he ended up confessing that he hadn’t done anything special for the holidays, not even with Suga, it made you feel bad. Even though he tries to assure you he didn’t want to celebrate it anyway.
Back home, you lug your baggage into the room and dig something out of your bag. A packet of cookies lands on Jungkook’s lap as he takes a seat on the floor in front of the couch. “For me?”
“Mmhm.” Nodding, you tear open the paper bag, behaving more excited than he is. “My grandma said she packed this for my friend. She winked when she told me that. And I’d already brought some back for Hana. I think she knows.”
“About us? How?”
“She’s always been nosy.” You giggle. “I guess she doesn’t want you to get left out.”
“Aw. She’s kind just like you.”
“Wait!” He pauses, startled by your hand on his, stopping him from pulling one of the cookies out of the bag. “Hold on.”
You get up and run to the room. Carrying as many pillows as you can with a comfy blanket somewhere in between, Jungkook watches as you make a barrier with the pillows and spread the blanket over him. Then, you’re off to the kitchen.
After a minute of cabinet doors opening and closing and the clinking of glasses, you come back with two mugs of hot cocoa, marshmallows on top of course. Just the way your dad makes them. You place it right next to him then push the coffee table all the way forward to make more room to spread your legs. You put on a lame christmas movie on netflix, then snuggle up next to him.
“Now it’s a real christmas party.”
Jungkook laughs, holding you close and kissing the top of your head. You do the most unexpected things at the most random times. But he appreciates the way you always try to make sure he’s not left out. “Thank you baby.”
You grin up at him and watch carefully as he takes the first bite of the cookies. His eyes go wide and you nod knowingly. It’s your grandmother’s famous recipe. One even if you had, wouldn’t even be able to replicate its taste. He hums in delight, stuffing his mouth with one cookie after the other.
“So. Let me guess what happens after cookies and cocoa.” He says after finishing almost half the packet.
“What?” You ask, eyeing him.
He reaches round the side of the couch and pulls out the odd package you had seen in the car. “Presents?”
“Presents!”
You run back to your room and appear with a small wrapped box. The rule was not to buy anything that costs more than your monthly rent. You both had agreed to this a while back. Which was difficult for Jungkook because all he wanted to do was to spoil you with expensive gifts.
“What is this?” Jungkook holds the box to his ear and shakes lightly. “Hm.”
“Wait I think I can guess what mine is.” You giggle, pressing into the soft parts of the wrapping.
“Okay then you go first.”
“Okay.” Tearing away the wrapping carefully, you find inside a soft, pink bunny with funky eyebrows. On the bottom of its little feet, there are hearts and in those hearts are both your names embroidered with a plus sign in between. “Aww no this is so adorable. I love it so much.”
“It’s not a diamond necklace but⎼”
“No this is so much better. Thank you.” You give him a hug with the bunny squished between your bodies. “It strangely reminds me of you.”
“Really?”
“Yeah it’s weird and I like it.” You giggle, pinching his cheek. “Now open yours.”
The wrapping comes off easy and he immediately realises what it is as the box comes into view. He looks at you for a second before unboxing it and pulling out a matte black polaroid camera. Jungkook takes his time with it, carefully looking at it from each side.
“Do you like it?” You ask. “I know you like taking photos so I thought you might like this.”
“Y/N I love it.” He smiles, bringing the viewfinder to his eye and getting a feel of it, then putting it down to focus on you. “Let’s take one together.”
You scoot next to him as he loads the film cassette. Then hugging his middle, he hooks his arm around your shoulders and your faces press against each other. He clicks the shutter and you both wait for the film to develop.
It comes out perfect, both your smiling faces perfectly in frame and even bunny made it in which makes Jungkook laugh. He can’t stop staring at it, holding it by the edges so carefully like he’s afraid he’s going to ruin it.
“I love you.” He says, looking at you when he finally sets it down.
“I love you too.”
He kisses you, tasting of hot cocoa and love. You’re being pushed onto the pillows with the blanket beneath as Jungkook hovers over you, pushing the hair out of your face. As Jungkook removes his sweater, you pull your shirt over your head. Jungkook smiles down at you, kisses you, then reaches for the camera. “Merry fucking christmas to me.”
You shimmy out of your jeans and hook your ankle over his shoulder. Snap. “And happy new year baby.”

a baby changes everything pt.2
pairing: do kyungsoo x (reader) genre/warning: artificial insemination, fluff word count: 3.6k description: when you decided to have a baby, you knew everything would change, but this is not what you expected… parts: o1 | a/n: october installment of our ‘trying to write a kyungsoo story for every month that he is gone’ series.
A fresh pile of folders thuds on your desk, and you raise an eye to the Filing Clerk who offers a weak smile. “You said you wanted the reports from the last three years.”
You did. You need them, but they forebode a long day. “Park wants my analysis by this evening?” You clarify, and he nods. You return the gesture before grabbing a clip and twisting
your hair up and out of your face. No time like the present to begin.
An alert sounds on your phone when you’re at the halfway point of the report pile. Resurfacing from the sea of numbers, you check the notification and suppress a string of curses. “Parent Teacher Conference” flashes on the screen. You had forgotten. You had promised your son you would remember, and you had forgotten.
The remaining half of the report pile mocks you. You have thirty minutes until the conference and no hope of making it through in time. You swipe away the alert to reveal your lock screen, a photo from Theo’s seventh birthday. Theo had covered the both of you in cake while Kyungsoo, standing behind you, managed to remain cake-free. You pick up the phone to call in the cavalry.
When you had chosen to undergo artificial insemination, against the advice and protestation of your family, you had been prepared to be a single mother. You knew, or at least thought you knew, the challenges you would face and were prepared to handle each one as they arose. After the first weeks with no sleep, no chance to shower, and no concept of self, you had been more than happy to have someone who would come on the first call.
Kyungsoo answers on the first ring. As the heir and president of a multinational corporation, one would expect to reach a secretary or voice-mail, but he answers each time.
“If Theo is still insisting that his grandfather will get him a pony for Christmas, know that I have spoken with his grandfather about it.”
“Theo hasn’t said anything about a pony.” You switch the phone to your other ear and close the file in front of you. “Have I missed a conversation?” The other end remains silent.
“Rather than offer other suggestions for your call, please tell me why you are calling.”
You chew the inside of your cheek for a moment before deciding the parent teacher conference is the more pressing issue. Kyungsoo agrees the moment you mention it. He already had it on his schedule. You can hear him climbing into his car before the call ends. With crisis averted, you return to the pile of reports.
Kyungsoo texts you when the conference ends – it went well - and asks if he can take Theo to dinner and ice cream. You agree. You have nearly finished your analysis but still need to do some grocery shopping, and grocery shopping is always easier without a seven-year-old.
They are waiting at the park down the street from your apartment when you walk by with your arm full of groceries. The bags dig into your arms, and a stray strand of hair refuses to leave your eye alone no matter how many times you blow it out of the way. After another failed attempt, you call out to the two. Theo stops mid jabber and races towards you. His face bright with enthusiasm. He restarts his jabbering as he skids to a stop in front of you. Kyungsoo follows at a milder pace. You glance from your son to him. “I take it you know what he’s saying.” You joke as you shift a bag further up your hip and blow at the stray strand again.
“Only because I was there when it happened.” He reaches forward and brushes the strand behind your ear. His fingertips graze your temple as he does. A shiver races down your spine, and you blame it on the cool autumn breeze. Taking one of the bags from you, he starts down the sidewalk to your apartment.
“I was telling you about the parent teacher conference...which you missed.” Theo huffs as he stretches his legs to match his father’s gait. You walk beside him, sandwiching the boy between you and Kyungsoo.
“I do want to hear all about that, but first what’s this I hear about a pony?” You stare down at him, and he stares at his shoes, his shoulders rising to cover his ears. “Theo?”
“The last time I was with grandpa I just said I would like a pony. I didn’t mean he had to buy me one.” He darts his gaze to you, then to his dad. Kyungsoo keeps a straight face as he stares ahead, so your son turns back to you.
You shake your head, and he smiles a toothless grin. He had lost another tooth a week ago and took every opportunity to show off the incoming big boy tooth. “What have I told you about your grandfather?”
He sighs, his tiny frame collapsing with the loss of breath, but he manages to roll his head back and stares up at the night sky. “Just because Grandpa has all the money doesn’t mean I should ask him for everything.”
“Because?”
“Because things do not make me happy.” His conviction is lacking, but you nod, encouraging him on. “And I have everything I need.”
“That’s right.” You three stop in front of the entrance to your apartment building. “Now, take that grocery bag from your father and thank him for all his help today.” His body droops even further, but he holds out his arms.
Kyungsoo clutches the bag tighter to him. “I can carry it up.”
“That’s okay. You’ve done enough.” The words slip out before you can comprehend their double meaning. Kyungsoo’s face turns to stone. “I’m sure you have work waiting for you.” You try to salvage the situation. “And Theo is more than capable of carrying groceries.”
He nods. A forced smile pushes against his cheeks, but he drops to his knees to pull Theo into a one-armed hug before handing him the bag. When he stands, you two stare at each other. His fingers twitch, ready to reach out for you. And he could. It would be normal, natural, but you remain rooted to the concrete. In the end, he waves, an awkward gesture, and is gone.
Even after seven years, you are still trying to figure out your relationship with Kyungsoo. When you had selected sperm for insemination, you had never expected to meet the donor or have any form of relationship with him. Fate is funny though. Before you had even given birth to Theo, Kyungsoo entered your life. He was there when Theo was born, and within that first month stepped into the role of co-parent. He watched him take his first steps, have his first birthday, go off to his first day of school. But he has also stood beside you when you quit your job, when you needed a plus-one to social functions, when your dad had his heart attack. Co-parent no longer seems to fit him, but nothing else does.
“I think my teacher likes Dad.” Theo pulls you back to the present as you reach your front door.
You unlock the door and hold it open for him, sneaking through with the groceries before it closes on you. “Why do you say that?”
“Because she kept going like this while we were talking.” He faces you and flutters his eyelashes. “And she laughed at everything he said, and you said that if a girl does those things it means she likes you.”
You nod along, the conversation fresh in your memory. He had come home in a state last week with many questions about girls. You had answered as many of them as you could and told him some would have to wait until he was older.
Setting the grocery bags on the counter, you start to pull things out and hand Theo the cold food for him to put away in the fridge. “Do you think your dad liked her back?” The question surprises you.
Theo shakes his head. “No. He kept doing this:” he clears his throat, loudly and pointedly, “anytime she asked him a question that wasn’t about me.”
You smother a snort and mask any sound which may have escaped with the folding of the bags. “That sounds like your dad.” The image of Kyungsoo in a too small desk forcing a starry-eyed woman back on topic threatens to unleash another snort.
“Mom, do you like Dad?” You choke on air as you face Theo. He stares at you all innocence.
“Of course, I like your dad. He’s a good dad.” You grab a handful of groceries and head for the pantry before he can ask a follow up question. “Now tell me what you talked about with your teacher and slower this time.”
He huffs but answers. “She said I should join a sports club because it would be good for my social development.” His voice goes high and airy with the last words, and you know he is quoting her verbatim.
“What did your dad say?” You ask as you grab the remaining food and head back to the pantry.
“He agreed with my teacher, and she gave him a list of the clubs.” Theo closes the fridge and climbs up on one of the counter’s stools.
“Do you have the list?” He shakes his head, and you make a mental note to ask Kyungsoo for a copy. “Do you want to join one of the clubs?” He nods. “Which one?”
“Soccer.”
You change the mental note to ask Kyungsoo what you will need to do to sign him up and who to contact about schedules and equipment. “That sounds fun. Now, you’ve still got an hour of homework time before bed.” He groans, but you pat him on the butt, shooing him off to his room.
“Mom, where are my cleats?”
“In your closet on the bottom shelf.” You hear the clatter of toppling boxes, followed by thuds which you assume are shoes being thrown aside. Someone will have a room to clean after their game. You make the mental note as you finish up the snack pack: almonds, grapes, and dark chocolate, a perfect pick me up during half time.
“Theo, are you ready?” You ask as you dump ice on the top of the cooler bag and zip it up. After two more crashes, your son appears in the kitchen, dressed in his full kit including his cleats. “What have I told you about wearing your cleats in the house?”
“Mom!” He whines, his shoulders dropping in exasperation. He, thankfully, refrains from stomping his foot.
“Don’t ‘mom’ me. Do you see those scuffs on the floor?” He twists his torso to glance at the living room floor he nonchalantly raced through. Thin white lines scar the dark wood. He faces you again and offers a grimace in apology. “Take them off, put them in your bag, and wear your sneakers until we get to the field.”
He opens his mouth, ready to protest, but one look from you silences him. He crouches down and begins to unlace his cleats. “Is dad almost here?” Kyungsoo had offered to pick you and Theo up, saving you from a forty-five-minute bus ride.
“Yes,” you grab your phone from the counter to double check his last text. “By the time you finish what I told you to do, he will be here.” Tucking the phone in your back pocket, you grab your purse.
“Which car is he bringing?” Theo glances up at you, cleats in hand. His eyes shine with expectation.
“Why does that matter?” You cross your arms and arch a brow.
He has the decency to look sheepish. “I was just wondering.”
“And I was just wondering how long it’s going to take you to put on your sneakers.” He darts off and you shake your head.
Theo reappears wearing his sneakers and with his athletic bag slung over his shoulder. You do a final check of the apartment before grabbing the cooler bag and heading down to the parking garage where you know Kyungsoo will be waiting.
He is waiting by the elevator doors. The cooler bag is off your shoulder before you even start your greeting, not that you have a chance to give one. Theo is off, talking a mile a minute, as soon as he sees his dad. Kyungsoo smiles and nods along to the excited chatter. He offers you a smile, the only greeting he can manage with Theo’s barrage. You return the greeting as you follow him to his car which to Theo’s delight is the Range Rover.
“Soobin is going to be so jealous!” He comments as he climbs in.
“One of his teammates.” You answer Kyungsoo’s furrowed brow. “Apparently, he and Theo have a bit of rivalry about whose dad is better.”
“Mine is. Soobin is stupid.”
“Theo!” You scold. Kyungsoo closes the door, saving him from your reprimand. You glare at him, but he is already walking to the back to place the cooler in the trunk. “Boys.” You sigh as you climb into the car.
Theo’s team wins. While neither of the goals was his, he did have an assist. Soobin did score a goal, and the brewing foul mood was visible to both you and Kyungsoo which was why you both enthusiastically celebrated his skills when he trudged over after the game. Kyungsoo picked him up, a feat which will become impossible in the coming years, and promised dinner at his favorite restaurant.
The three of you sit around a table laden with food. Kyungsoo had also promised him he could have anything he wanted off the menu, and Theo, the growing boy that he is, ordered more than he could consume in five dinners. You throw a look at Kyungsoo as the waiter places the last dish on the table, but he shrugs and helps Theo load food onto his plate. You grab a plate of your own and begin to fill it more modestly.
“Has work calmed down at all?” Kyungsoo asks as Theo’s mouth is too full to continue talking.
You shake your head. “Unfortunately, not. I have a pile of folders on my desk waiting for me on Monday, and I’m sure more folders will be added to it before Monday even arrives. Mr. Park said he would hire an assistant for me, but I have yet to hear of any interviews, though I’ve reminded him.” You pause, biting on your fork as you think. “Three times now. I’m ready to send him a very nasty email depending on how bad Monday is.”
“I do know the CEO of your company.” Kyungsoo suggests as he leans across the table to grab a side dish. “We’ve attended social functions together.”
“Don’t you dare.” You wag your fork at him. “I am more than capable of handling Mr. Park. Besides, he’s not that bad, and I wouldn’t want him peeing his pants after a phone call from the CEO.”
“You still pee your pants as a grown up?” Theo joins the conversation, horror contorting his features. He had to wear pull-ups to bed until he was four. When he went a whole week without wetting the bed, Kyungsoo had taken you two on a weekend trip to the beach.
“Some people do, especially if you get a call from your boss’s boss’s boss.” You side eye Kyungsoo. He smothers a smile. “You don’t have anything to worry about though. You dad would never let that happen to you.”
“Of course not, because dad is going to be my boss.” Confidence brims from his eyes as he inhales another mouthful. You glance at Kyungsoo who shakes his head.
“Theo, where did you hear that?” He asks.
“Grandpa.” Though with all the food in his mouth, it sounds more like “fampfa”. He swallows and continues. “He said that when I grow-up I’m going to work at the company and when dad is done working that I’m going to have his job.”
“Do you want to work at my company?” Kyungsoo’s question eases the chokehold that you have on your fork, and you reach for your glass of water as you remind yourself to remain calm.
Kyungsoo put an end to his family’s machinations to steal your son long before Theo was born.
Theo’s lips purse, and he rocks his head from side to side before shaking it firmly. “I don’t think so. Your work is boring. I want to have a fun job.” Kyungsoo snorts. The uncharacteristic gesture pulls a laugh from you. Within moments, the table is full of laughter.
The combination of the game, a full meal, and the gentle hum of the car ride puts Theo to sleep before you reach home. Kyungsoo carries him up to the apartment for you. While you know you should wake him to shower and change, his face, soft with sleep, convinces you to let Kyungsoo place him in his bed. You need to wash the sheets anyway.
Kyungsoo returns to the kitchen as you are pulling a bottle of wine from the hiding place in the pantry. “A nightcap?” He asks, stopping at the counter.
“I need a drink.” You go to the cabinet and pull out two glass. “Would you like some?” He nods, and you fill both, yours a little more generously than his.
He cups the glass, swirling the liquid, as you take a large gulp of yours. “Is this about my father?” He watches the dark liquid coat the edges of the glass.
You lean back against the counter next to him and nod. “I’m grateful that Theo has a relationship with his grandfather, but I need him to realize that Theo is not his heir and that he can’t just buy him whatever he wants. At the same time though, I wonder if I am a bad mom because I’m stopping someone from buying him a pony.”
“You’re not a bad mom. Theo doesn’t need a pony. If he was going to pursue Equestrian Sports, maybe.” He shrugs, smiling at you. “But I think he is happy with soccer.”
You snort, taking another sip of your wine. “Did you do Equestrian Sports when you were his age?”
“No, but I did have a horse.” You raise a brow. “I barely rode him. There wasn’t time. My father was training me to be his heir.”
“And that’s exactly what I don’t want for Theo.” You glance at Kyungsoo and find that you have slid closer to him. The wine warms your body, and you find your attention drawn to his lips as he speaks.
“I know. I’ll talk with my father.” His voice is low and husky. His lips vibrating with the words. Wine coats them, making them shine in the dim light. Perhaps, you should have turned on more lights than the lamp in the living room. Theo’s question comes back to you. Do you like Kyungsoo? “Y/N?”
You shake your head, clearing the alcohol from your thoughts. A stray hair falls into your face. “Sorry. Thank you.” You try to focus, your hand going to brush the hair out of your eye.
Kyungsoo’s hand reaches it first. He tucks it behind your ear. His hand lingers on your cheek. His fingertips light on your skin. “Sorry.” He whispers. Your cheek grows cold as he reclaims his glass and swallows a gulp. “I should call a driver. This wine is hitting harder than I expected.”
“Or,” the word slips out, and you blame the wine for loosening your lips. “You could stay the night. The couch pulls out, and I have a spare set of your clothes.” You keep your gaze fixed on the living room lamp. “It’s been a bit since we’ve got to enjoy one of your breakfasts.” You add on when the silence stretches between you.
“I see. You just want me for my body.” He breaks the tension.
You snort. The wine in your glass sloshing and threatening to spill out. “If that’s what you want to think then sure.”
He takes the glass from you and sets it on the counter next to his. You’ve both had enough wine for tonight. “Do you have stuff for breakfast tomorrow?”
“My fridge is stocked with every healthy thing imaginable.”
“Healthy.” He scrunches up his nose. His glasses fall down the bridge when he relaxes it, and you fight the urge to take them off.
“Is that a yes or no?” You speak around the lump in your throat.
He thinks. The moments tick by as you berate yourself for asking something too stupid and risqué. Kyungsoo is Theo’s dad. No matter how blurred the line between you two grows that line will always be as crisp as a fresh stroke on paper, and you should be avoiding anything that could complicate that relationship.
“Yes.” You blink at Kyungsoo and wonder if hope has spread a filter over your ears. “Y/N?”
“Awesome.” You answer, assured that you heard correctly. “I’ll go get the clothes.” You start towards your bedroom but throw over your shoulder. “Since it is still early, but only if you’re up for it, there is this new movie on Netflix that I’ve been wanting to watch.”
“So, Netflix and chill?”
Stuttering to a halt, you whip your head around. He smiles at you all innocence. “You’re ridiculous.” He shrugs. With a shake of your head, you march into your room, his laughter trailing after you.

_________
The last three weeks have been absolutely divine! Harry managed to convince you about closing your clinic earlier than usual, he said and you quote, "the babies are gonna be safe with their parents, lovie", so that's what you did, you closed your clinic early for the Christmas Season and told your patients that you're just a call away.
You managed to snag a couple of Christmas Gifts for your husband and for both of your families. You were never a fan of late shopping but after the fight you and H had, you've been nothing but inseparable. Always tied on each other's hips and always wanting to feel one another's presence.
Both of your families drove at your house during the 23rd, wanting to spend Christmas Eve together. All you can hear are the joyous laughter and love for one another and you can tell that Harry is savoring every moment for when he leaves for his tour.
You both agreed on visiting him often and staying with him for a month before you go back to your job for another month then visit him again. It will be a tiring process especially for you but it was the best you both can come up with. It was a compromise the two of you can work with and it will be all worth it in the end.
Harry talked about his excitement about his upcoming tour with your families. Everyone spent time with one another but you can tell that Harry enjoyed it the most. Your families stayed for a week, leaving on the 30th.
He's been spending time with the kids the most. With your sister having a newborn and Gem being pregnant for the 3rd time, he caught a glimpse of what it's like being a father. You would often catch him staring at you while holding the kids and it made you smile. You can't wait for the time when Harry is holding your own child but you've talked about not trying until after his tour.
It wasn't Harry's fault though. You never really thought about having an irregular menstrual cycle and was never really bothered by it before the marriage but now it was all that's in your mind. H taught you to love yourself and your body though. He was so understanding of everything which makes your heart burst every single time.
You've been eating more than usual and you always feel bloated. You told Harry that one-night whistle your families were there but he only told you that you still looked beautiful. You have never been a stress drinker though you still drink on occasions, you are more the stress eater type of person.
You've been very stressed about hosting your families for Christmas and hosting the upcoming New Year Party, and the fact that you might not fit in the dress you bought for that event adds to the fire. Harry understood and tried to help you with everything he can to lessen your stress. He once joked about opening your clinic to stress you more so you'll cook more food for him to munch into.
---
It was 30 minutes before midnight. Your friends were scattered around your house, talking and laughing and drinking and catching up with one another while you, however, tried being the best host as much as you can.
On occasions like this, you'd like to at least have a drink on your system but you couldn't risk messing something up, you are a strong believer of the saying, "what you do on the 1st day of the year, will be what you're doing for the rest of the year", so if you are crying on new year then you'll be crying for the year but if you're laughing during the new year, then your year would be filled with happiness, plus you managed to fit in your dress! God forbid you staining it and having to deal with staining your clothes for the whole year.
You haven't seen Harry since Zayn arrived, you figured that the lads have been catching up and the thought made you smile, but right now you really need his help. You're running out of cupcakes, and you don't know what to do!
Someone snaked their hands from your behind and you're startled by it until you smelled the perfume you know by heart and saw the familiar tattoos on the person's arms. You couldn't help but lean back to relax a bit and laced your fingers with your husband.
"What got you so stressed bunny? I can see your frown from the living room. Know I hate seeing you frown baby.", Harry said into your ears that sent chills down your spine. There was no loud music but you're sure that the voices in your house would beat the sound if there was one.
"We're running out of cupcakes! I think it was me, it's all I've been consuming since our guests arrived!", you sighed after you said that but your husband only laughed and turned you to him.
He smiled widely at you. "You're really cute baby.", then bopped your nose with his. "I got us covered angel, there are spare cupcakes in our room."
"H! Why are there cupcakes in our room?!", you couldn't help but laugh at it though.
"Because the tables were full and I don't know where to put it and our guests were arriving so I just put it on the first place that comes into my mind!", H tried to reason you but you were already laughing at him. He pouted at you but couldn't help but laugh along at the situation, he loves hearing your laugh!
"Okay okay baby H, let's get the cupcakes here, yeah?"
"Did you just called me Baby H? Hmm?", he playfully asked you, "We both know that you're not calling me that when we're alone.", he whispered to your ear hotly and you felt your stomach drop. "Why don't we try that theory of yours baby girl? Let's find out if we're really going to have sex every single day if we do it on new year.", he sounds so hot and you're so flustered, and that's when he laughed.
"Gotcha baby! Payback for laughing at me!", the crinkles on the side of his eyes appeared while cackling, he's even patting his knees while doing so courtesy on how much he found the situation funny and you can't help but admire him and laugh along instead of being annoyed with him.
"Oi oi what you laughing about love birds?!", Louis smiled at the both of you while entering the kitchen.
"Nothing Lou, H is just being dramatic.", you said as Louis rounded the table to inspect the food and his eyes landed on the single cupcake at the plate.
Harry noticed, "Mate were just about to get more cupcakes, you can have it."
"Thanks man. And great party you two!", and with that, Lou sauntered out of the kitchen with the cupcake in his hand.
"Guess we really do have to get the cupcakes down now, huh?", you playfully asked your husband as he intertwined your fingers and pulled you upstairs to get the other boxes of cupcakes.
After the party, you really did test the theory of yours. You made love for the first time of the year, before he leaves for his tour tomorrow night.
---
Harry has been away for the past few weeks. You never really paid attention to the changes of your body, but your abdomen seems to have a bit bump to it but you're not even on your period. You really don't want to get your hopes up that you're ovulating for the month, your husband is not there anyways.
You used to hate getting your periods when you were still a teen up until your early to mid-twenties, dread for it actually, but now, all you wanted was for your period to greet you even in the most inconvenient times!
You're eating more, but you don't have any weird cravings since you eat almost everything - you're not a picky eater so it was so easy for Harry to take you out on dates and not worry about you not going to like the restaurants he picks at the start of your relationship - so you pass that as your stress. Stress on your job and missing your husband.
But then you started feeling nauseated all the time. It wasn't every morning after you wake up, it's actually in the afternoon. You thought that maybe it was your eyes again. You refuse to wear glasses and contacts even though you're mostly looking at the computer screen so you didn't bother much about it until one day at the grocery store.
"You're glowing, Doc! Early stages of pregnancy don't really look great on everyone but you pull it off!", Mrs. Green, the mother of your patient, said as you bumped into her while running some errands.
You blushed at the thought, "no, I- I'm actually not um pregnant.", you stuttered.
"Oh I'm sorry, I just thought..."
"It's alright, probably just the weather outside!", you talked to her for a couple more minutes before she has to go but during your conversation, you couldn't help but think about it.
Can you really be pregnant?
And with that question lingering on your mind, you went to the pharmacy of the story and bought more pregnancy tests than necessary.
You graduated with a Ph.D.! How come you never thought about this! Yet again, you and H never really talked much about pregnancy either so it wasn't the first thing that came to your mind.
Never in your life you'd have thought that you'll be drinking this much liters of water in a span of an hour. Numerous pregnancy tests wrappers on the small bin on your bathroom along with more than 10 pregnancy tests on your bathroom counter but never once you had peaked on any of it. You just couldn't do it.
You left the bathroom an hour ago and you're sure that every single pregnancy test results are done now.
You're so excited but scared at the same time. You know that Harry would be really ecstatic if he's here but he's just starting his tour, you don't know how he'll react but at the same time, if you're really pregnant then it wouldn't take long for him to accept it.
But you're more scared that those tests may come all negative. You got your hopes really high now and you're really wishing that you're carrying Harry's child. If the tests are negative then Harry wouldn't need to know that this ever happened, but you sure as hell would be really down and disappointed.
You decided to go to the bathroom to finally face your fears. You stood outside of the bathroom door and counted the pregnancy tests on the counter. 15. You don't know what to expect but you pray to God to give you strength no matter what the results say.
You slowly walked inside and looked at the first test. Negative, and boy did it disappointed you more than getting an 88 on your test when you were still in college.
The next pregnancy test came out positive. You froze, one negative and one positive equals negative, so you need more proof.
The third one came positive yet again. You still didn't believe it and look at the next test.
Positive. 3 positive and one negative. You're slowly starting to smile.
The next was another positive. You feel like you couldn't breathe so you look at the next one.
Negative. And there it goes again. All your hopes and dreams crushed. 4 positives and 2 negatives.
The next came out as positive, negative, positive, positive, positive, positive, positive, positive, and the last one was again, positive.
With each look at the pregnancy test, you couldn't help but cry. 3 negative tests and 12 positive tests. This is it, you're really pregnant. After years of trying.
You cried of happy tears and for the first time in your life, you put your hands on your tummy with so much care and look at it with so much adoration. "Are you really there, baby?", you continued to sniffle. "Gosh, I love you so much already. Daddy will be so happy. We get to see him in the next few days!", with that you wiped your tears and looked at the mirror to admire your body.
You took your first body picture as pregnant in front of your huge mirror in your walk-in closet and went to pack for your one month visit to your husband.
---
The plane landed a couple of minutes ago and you're on your way to Harry's hotel to drop off your things and go to the arena where he's performing. During the ride it made you think that about how you're not really sure if you're pregnant. You need to get an ultrasound to make sure but you also remembered that Harry would have loved to attend the first time you went to the doctors so you didn't think much about it.
You arrived at the arena after dropping and changing your clothes at the hotel. Harry was having a soundcheck so when he took a break and went backstage to change his shirt, he was so surprised to see you there. He thought you wouldn't be coming until two days before his birthday.
He ran up to you and almost crushed you. You being really cautious, put your arms to shield your tummy before he reaches you. H didn't notice what you did since he missed you so much and just wanted to hold you. When you felt like its safe to remove your arms, you hugged him back and swayed the both of you side to side. His head was in the crook of your neck and is pressing multiple kisses to your skin.
"Missed you so much. Though you're not gonna be here until the day after tomorrow.", he mumbled on your neck still hugging you tight.
"Jeff helped me with everything. Missed you so much more handsome.", then you kissed for the first time after being away for the last 3 weeks.
---
It was his birthday. You brought him presents and celebrated really early with him before you both have to leave for his soundcheck. You never would have thought that you're going give him another gift. You were going to wait until Valentine's day to tell him that you might be pregnant but things don't always happen as you please.
Harry saw a pregnancy test laying around his dressing room earlier, it was positive. He thought it might be Sarah's since she and Mitch have been planning on starting a family after this tour, much like you and him, so he didn't dig further to it, as a respect to his friends' privacy.
You weren't acting weird, only when you threw up after lunch, he thought your stomach wasn't used to the food so he let it slide and just made sure you were okay, in which you replied to as "just probably ate a lot". Then it was time for a few shots and a cake before he went to the stage. He's dressed and ready to go, 20 minutes before his last call. Everybody was having a shot and greeting your husband but you stuck to your water and 2 big pieces of cake.
Harry thought you were just hungry since you emptied your stomach earlier so he let it slide again but when you refused a drink, he couldn't help but pulled you to the side and ask.
"What's up with you baby? You sick my love?", he looks so concerned and you found it really cute so you pecked his lips. Hormones.
"I'm not, just really hungry.", you smiled at him. You're good with lying and you get away most of the time with it but not with your husband. No matter how good you are with it, he knows you better than anyone else.
"You refused my drink babes, it's my birthday", he pouted, "it's an occasion my love."
"I know H, I'm sorry, I couldn't drink, I really don't want to.", you tried to reason him but he wasn't having it.
"Don't lie, baby, I know you. Please tell me what's wrong pretty girl.", he took your hands and kissed your knuckles.
"There's nothing wrong with me, I promise. Go on, enjoy you-"
"Harry, 5 minutes!", Jeff yelled signaling Harry to get ready.
"Y/N just tell me. I'm worried, please baby. I wouldn't be able to stop thinking about it. You're acting really strange and yo-"
"Pregnant.", you whispered.
"Come again?"
"We might be pregnant.", you said in a whisper while slowly meeting your husband's eyes.
"You're what?!", he's jumping on the balls of his feet now.
"Yeah, I might be pregnant.", you looked down, feeling disappointed. This isn't the reaction you were hoping to receive and it made your eyes water.
"How sure are you?", Harry asked in a strained voice. "12 positive tests and 3 negatives...", you said not meeting his eyes even though you can tell that he's looking at your figure.
Then Harry forced you to look at him, cradling your face with his hands. His eyes were so wide and green, blown pupils and you can see the tears starting to form in his waterline. "Are you really?", his voice breaks in the middle. You only nod your head.
With that, he kissed you, passionately. He didn't care that Jeff was yelling at him to go to the stage and that his fellow bandmates are stalling different tunes just for him. He kissed you like his life depend on it until he pulled back and dropped to his knees and lifted up your shirt.
"Can you hear me my love?", he whispered to your small tummy and you couldn't help but tangle your right hand with his hair, not caring if you messed it up, while your other hand is clamping your mouth. You're crying so much. "I love you bubs, daddy loves you so much.", Harry met your eyes and smiled at you.
"Both of you wait for me here, okay?", he stands up slowly while bringing your shirt down. "Eat as much as you please and I'll have some guards near you and give you a seat in here, mkay?", he looks so happy.
"Okay H. But we're not totally sure yet. I only told you, wasn't planning on it until the 14th s-"
"Then we'll go to the doctors first thing in the morning okay? Gotta take care of you more now, the both of you", you smiled at his concern.
"If that's what you want then. But for now, go and please the world.", you slowly pushed him off you.
He kissed you one more time before jogging backwards to the stage while yelling "I love you."
That night he performed with all of his energy and everyone can notice the change in his demeanor. To some, it's probably because it's his birthday but to both of you, there's a different reason behind it.
During the middle of his concert, you saw him whispered to his bandmates and everyone nodded.
“I'm going to sing another song I wrote a couple years ago. This is not on the setlist but tonight I'm making an exception since this is probably one of the best nights of my life.", the crowds cheered for him, "please if you have your phones, open your torches and bring it up in the air. I'm singing without a mic so please be quiet.", the crowds cheered grew louder then he winked at you from the side stage.
"This is Sweet Creature."
And with that, you know that whatever the future holds for the two of you, you'll be facing it together with your small family. You'll be now taking care of your own baby aside from your patients in a mere 33 weeks!
But maybe not "small family” after all, when you find out that you'll be having twins. And you'll have to compromise again about visiting him on tour with the babies on the way but there's nothing in the world you'd want to trade it with.

MASTERLIST
SPN CHRISTMAS BINGO
You watched as Jessica, a PA, walked around carrying a basket with names on paper for the annual Secret Santa. You’ve been working on the set of Supernatural for a few months. You still didn’t know everyone so you were hoping you got someone you knew.
Secretly you hoped it was Jared. You’ve had a huge crush on him since you guest starred last year on two episodes. You stayed in touch between your days on set last season to when you started a full time role this season. It helped that you both live in Austin. Jared quickly became your best friend over the months, but you still harbored those feelings.
Jessica walked up to you and smiled at you. ”Once you draw, let me know who you got so I can write it down. And don’t worry, us PAs have different bowls. My name is in another one.”
You smiled at her and reached into the bowl. You picked up a piece of paper and opened it.
“I got myself?” You looked up at Jessica who was laughing.
“Put it back and draw again.” She said as her laughter died out. She held the bowl up to you once again. You put your hand back in the bowl and grabbed another paper.
You kept your face neutral as you read the name quietly to Jessica since the person you got was a few feet away. “Jared. I got Jared.” You smiled at Jessica as she smirked while writing his name down. Your heart was racing because you wanted to get him something special. More special than what you already have stored in your closet back in Austin.
Jared walked over to the both of you. Jessica smiled at him.
“Jared, have you drawn for the Secret Santa?” Jessica asked holding up the bowl. Jared shook his head. He reached into the bowl and smirked as he read the name. He turned to show Jessica and she smirked again as she was writing. “Well you guys have fun shooting your next scene. I’m off the rest of the day.”
“Bye Jessica. Merry Christmas.” Jared said. You smiled and hugged her as you wished her safe travels. Jared turned to look at you. “I have a few hours until I have to film again and I know for a fact you are here way to early since you are doing evening shoots. So would you like to accompany me to a movie and a nap in my trailer?” You laughed and nodded your head.
That weekend you were walking around shops trying to get an idea for Jared when you walked past a craft store. You walked in just to see what they had. As you walked further into the store, you saw all the quilt supplies hanging on a wall and laying on shelves. An older woman approached you.
“Hello dear, are you looking to make a quilt or are you looking to have one made?” She asked.
“Um… I’m not sure.” You replied honestly. “I don’t even know what pattern I would want.”
“Well let me just tell you more about what we do here so you can decide if you would like one. Holidays are coming up and it would be a lovely gift.” She led you towards the table that had a pamphlet on it. “We do patterns, we do quilt square patterns, and we do t-shirt quilts.”
“What are t-shirt quilts?” You asked genuinely confused.
“They are quilts made out of t-shirts. We cut the shirt into a square and then we put them together like a quilt square pattern. And if you don’t have enough t-shirts to fill a complete quilt, you can add some fabric.”
You thought about all the Always Keep Fighting shirts Jared had given you over the summer. A few from every campaign he had done. Plus you had other Supernatural shirts based off of Sam you could add. “I think you just helped me figure out my Christmas gift for a friend. How long does it take you to make the quilt?”
Normally it would take us a while, but with the holiday season, we would have it done in a week.” She replied happily that she might have made a sale.
“And what time do you close? I have some shirts I would like to turn into a quilt.” You said. “Do you do weighted quilts?”
“We do. It will cost you extra though.” She said. “And we close at nine tonight.”
You smiled at her. You told her you would be back in a bit. Just had to run home to grab the shirts. She smiled and said she would be here to help you when you got back.
You almost ran to your car to hurry. Jared was due to be at your apartment later that evening when you finished shopping. You didn’t want to risk him seeing you home and think it’s okay to come over. You ran into your room once you unlocked your apartment. Quickly opening your dresser, you grabbed one of each campaign. Then you went to the closet to grab the Supernatural shirt. You locked your apartment and rushed back to the shop.
“I’m back.” You said smiling. Linda, the kind lady that helped you earlier led you to the quilting room to design the front of the quilt. After aligning the shirts how you wanted them, she led you to the fabric section to select something for the back. You smiled when you saw a plaid design that just screamed Sam Winchester. “I really like this. It matches the person who is getting this.”
Linda smiled at you as she saw your eyes light up thinking about the quilt and the person it was going to. “This will be a big quilt. Probably around six feet.”
“That’s perfect. The guy I’m getting this for is 6’4.” You said with a laugh.
“I’m sure he will love it. I will give you a call when it is done.” Linda said. You smiled at her and left the store.
Two weeks later you were carrying your wrapped box into the building where the SPN Christmas party was being held. You discarded your present and walked towards Jensen.
“Hiya Jay!” You said. He turned and smiled at you. He wrapped you in a big hug.
“How’s my girl tonight?” He asked as he pulled away.
“I’m doing good. How are you? Ready to see the family?” You asked back.
“Better now that you're here.” You both laughed. “Of course I’m ready to see the family. It’s been a long week. Just glad I get to spend a few weeks with them without any interruptions.”
“I bet. I can’t wait to come see them on Christmas. I miss the little ones.” You said. You jumped as arms wrapped around you from behind.
You relaxed when you heard, “I miss them too. I’m spoiling them. Nearly all the presents under my tree are for them.” Jared said.
“Dang it Jared, I told you not to buy them anything.” Jensen said annoyed. But you noticed he wasn’t too annoyed based off the smile on his face.
“Okay guys. We have the presents to hand out, so please grab a seat.” You heard of the sound system, which stopped Jared from replying to Jensen.
Presents were being handed out by the PAs that did the drawings. Jessica handed you and Jared presents with a smirk before she turned to Jensen and handed him his.
Jared laughed as he felt how heavy his was. “Someone went all out this year. Or I got bricks. Not sure.” Jensen laughed in response.
You noticed Jared was side eyeing you as you were side eyeing him. You were nervous to see his reaction. When given the signal to open the gifts, you slowly opened yours as you also watched Jared. Jared ripped into the present. He pulled the quilt out and stood up to unfold it so he could observe the whole thing.
“Oh my gosh.” You heard him whisper. You looked up to see tears in his eyes. Jensen looked up when he heard his best friend.
“What is it?” Jensen asked. Jared turned the quilt so Jensen could see the Always Keep Fighting shirts lining the front. “Looks like there’s a note with it.”
Whenever anxiety gets the worst of you, remember to Always Keep Fighting. This is your fighting blanket. It is a 20 pound weighted quilt to help you calm down when you feel like you’re out of control. Thank you for being the best role model for people around you and the people around the world. You deserve the world Jared. AKF
Jared read the note out loud. Jensen smiled and started tearing up too. He knew the battles Jared had and he was touched by the person who gave Jared this gift.
You smiled at the two of the gushing over the quilt. You finally turned towards your gift and opened it. You pulled out a photo album. It had a picture of you, Jared, Jensen, Misha, and Alex on the cover. You flicked through the pictures. Some were cellphone pictures of you with the crew and cast, some were behind the scenes photos taken by the on set photographer, and some were from conventions. Each page had a quote on it and each quote related to the photos on those pages. You were amazed by the work someone put into your gift.
As you continued to look through the photos. Jensen and Jared smiled at you. Jared noticed your tears building and sat by you to look through the picture with you. He was surprised you hadn’t noticed his handwriting yet.
“This year we decided to let each other know their Secret Santa now instead of waiting a few days. So please go find your person.” Bob announced over the system.
You looked at Jared as he looked at you.
“Do you like it?” Jared asked.
“I love it. This gift is beautiful. Did you do this?” You asked him. He nodded his head. You smiled bigger. “I will cherish it forever. Thank you.”
“Did you see the last couple of pages?” You shook your head no and Jared flipped to the pages for you. You noticed the majority of them from your time during the summer with him. Some you didn’t recognize. You smiled as you thought these were pictures Jared snuck of you.
“You really are amazing Jared, thank you.” You said giving him a hug. Letting it go on longer than normal.
“Did you get me the quilt?” He asked. You nodded. “It’s the best gift I’ve ever gotten. What made you think to do that.”
“Was shopping around and Linda, the one who made it, gave me the idea.” You said. “I was worried you wouldn’t like it. I didn’t figure you would want a blanket for Christmas.”
“Are you kidding me? This is the best. I love it. I’m going to use it all the time. Why make it weighted though?”
“Weighted blankets are supposed to help when you feel anxious. It’s supposed to help make you feel grounded. Figure you would need that when things get overwhelming.” You said. Jared smiled at you.
Little to yours and Jared’s knowledge, you were being watched by everyone. They had set you guys up to get each other. Hoping you would both admit your feelings to one another.
“Y/N, can I tell you something.” You nodded at the taller man.”Seeing this blanket and seeing how much thought you put into it makes me have to tell you this today. I can’t hold it back anymore.”
“Okay. What is it?” You asked.
“I like you Y/N. I have since you guest starred.” He said nervously.
“Well I wish you would have said something sooner, because I feel the same.” You said back.
“Really?” You nodded. “Since you guest starred?” You nodded once again. “You could have said something too, you know.” You laughed and leaned towards him. Jared pushed a piece of hair behind your ear and leaned in. His lips just hovering over yours. “Is this okay?” He asked.
“Yes.” You whispered so quietly, Jared wasn’t sure he heard you. He leaned forward and finally connected your lips in a soft kiss.
The room erupted in cheers. You both pulled away, remembering your surroundings.
“About time you two.” Jensen said. “If all we had to do was make you secret Santa partners, we should have done that a long time ago.”
“You guys planned this?” You asked.
Jensen nodded, “Yeah. I was the one that mentioned it because I was sick of hearing about your feelings for one another but neither of you telling each other.
Jared laughed as he pulled you closer, as everyone else went back to their conversations. Jensen silently watched his best friend and someone who is becoming like a sister to him.
“I’m kind of embarrassed.” You whispered to Jared.
“Don't be.” He said looking you in the eyes. He gently grabbed your chin and brought your lips to his. “Merry Christmas Y/N.”

Winter Break
Pairing: Sebastian Stan x Reader (TEACHER AU)
Warning: curse words, smut, alcohol/edibles (18+)
Word Count: 2,081
Notes: I envision this as a sequel to “Fall Break” which I wrote a couple of years ago. I see Seb being a high school science teacher, reader as a middle school math teacher. The setting is Brooklyn (Red Hook) and the places I mention are real and ones I love and recommend.
Also, it’s late and I’m sleepy. Please enjoy whatever this is.
@ 11:15AM - Friday
“YES, WINTER BREAK MOTHERFUCKERS!”
Her loud voice echoed out of their shared home office, and a moment later she came bounding down the hallway adorned in an ugly sweater, black leggings, and oversized fluffy slippers. Her hands were raised over head in victory, and when she reached the kitchen, she was greeted by the sight of Sebastian pouring a cocktail from the shaker into a highball glass.
“Right on time.” He said with a smile. Seb’s school had finished the day before, but he had gotten up early today to surprise her with coffee and bagels from Baked, her favorite coffee shop down the street. She took the offered glass, giving him a wary look.
“While I am always happy whenever someone hands me alcohol, I would like to note that it is only 11:15am.”
Seb chuckled as he poured the remains of the shaker into his own glass.
“After this semester, we have both earned this.” She shrugged, and they clinked their glasses before each taking a swig of the drink. She paused, finally realizing that Seb was dressed to go out as she put down her glass.
“Going somewhere?”
“Just downtown; I have to pick up a couple of gifts I couldn’t find online and then I have to go help your brother hook up some electronic stuff. I think I’m going to pick up dinner too.”
“I start winter break and you’re going to leave me here all by myself? That wasn’t part of the plan.” She gave her best pout, and he couldn’t help but smile as he stepped closer and cupped her face. He kissed her softly, pulling away after a moment before he got tempted to drag her into their bedroom.
“If I go now, we’ll have the entire weekend to ourselves. Plus, I know you haven’t finished inputting your data yet, and your A-type personality won’t let you truly relax until you do.”
“You don’t know me!” she responded, and all she got was a raised eyebrow back. They stared at each other until she took another sip from her drink, muttering something under her breath.
“I shouldn’t be too long, so why don’t you go finish up and tonight I am all yours.” She nodded, and he kissed her again before he gave her a quick goodbye and left their apartment. She stood in the kitchen and sipped her drink, looking down when she felt something rub against her leg.
“I can skip my work, Daddy doesn’t know me, right Alpine?”. The white cat locked eyes with her before yawning and giving a few chirps in response. “Fuck, he’s right it would literally drive me insane. Let’s go bud.” Alpine followed her into the office, perching on her lap as she sat down. Turning on Spotify, she took one last sip before getting to work.
At 3pm, she finally shut her laptop and stretched her sore muscles. She was officially done with work and checked her phone when it buzzed. Sebastian was going to be home by 5pm and as she wandered into the kitchen, she thought about what she could do to pass 90 minutes. The apartment was pretty spotless thanks to Seb the night before. He was also bringing dinner, so she didn’t have to cook. Suddenly, her mind remembered the jewelry box in the bedroom.
When she had gone home over the summer to see her family and friends, she had come back with some edibles she had hidden in her carry-on. She liked to use them if her anxiety got really bad, but she and Seb had also enjoyed a couple before school had started. But once September came, they were too tired or busy to enjoy them properly. But now, now they had two glorious weeks with no plans, and she was delighted to find four chocolates staring back at her when she opened her jewelry box. She took one, popped it into her mouth, and decided that now was the time to find some holiday movies on Netflix.
@ 4:48pm – Friday
She was engrossed in The Holiday when she heard the tell-tale jingle of Sebastian’s keys as he entered the foyer of their building. Alpine slowly stretched before casually sashaying over to greet him. She turned her head as he came in the apartment, his hair and the tops of his shoulders kissed with a dusting of fresh snow.
“Hey baby, your brother sends his love.”
“Mmmm, that’s nice.” She said and Sebastian paused placing bags on the island counter taking in her ultra-relaxed voice and posture on their couch. He walked over and leaned over to kiss her, and when he pulled back, he had a shit-eating grin on his face.
“You are high as fuck right now, aren’t you?”
“Nooooooooooo!” she said as she sat up straighter. She paused for a minute before making eye contact and blinking. “Okay, maybe just a little.” Seb giggled as he went back to pulling cartons out of the two bags, he had brought with him.
“Well, I suppose it’s a good thing that I come bearing food.”
“What did you bring?”
“Something we haven’t had in a while.” She inhaled deeply, the scent of fried dough and meat filling her lungs as she felt her stomach growl.
“Did you really go to East Wind?”
“Yep, I have enough Dim Sum to feed a small army. Now Cheech, do you want one of your ciders or a beer?”
“I’ll take a Cider, please.” Soon Sebastian placed a plate heaping with food in front of her before taking the space next to her on the couch. They ate, making potential plans for the weekend while the movie played in the background. After the sun set, and after Seb had changed into sweats and the dishes had been put in the dishwasher, they were cuddled on the couch under a blanket while watching Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer as the small Christmas tree in the corner and the lights on the window bathed the living room in soft colors. Seb had his arm wrapped around her shoulder, while she was cuddled into his side with her arm around his waist. She usually kept casual physical affection to a minimum, and he loved how the edibles opened up this side of her. He placed a kiss into her hair, causing her to look up.
“This is nice, all cuddled up with two weeks off and no real plans.” She hummed in agreement as she placed her leg over his, her foot rubbing his calf as she nuzzled his chest.
“We could make it even better.” The sultry tone in her voice instantly reminded Seb about another side effect the edibles had on her. Before he could respond she was placing soft kisses under his earlobe as her hand rubbed his cock over his sweatpants. He couldn’t help but whimper as her hand and lips began to set his skin on fire.
“Baby….” The words died on his tongue, coming out as a deep moan when her hand disappeared in his pants and grabbed his now fully hard cock while her teeth grazed his Adam’s apple. It was a race to disrobe after that, clothes landing here and there before she was bare before him, climbing into his lap before leaning down to finally kiss him. He pulled back when she did, watching her as she reached between them to line him up, mesmerized at how the Christmas lights cast red and green against her naked skin, only looking away when he felt her warm wet heat envelop his cock.
She stilled when he bottomed out, her face buried in his shoulder as his fingers began to trace over her skin as he felt her warm breath against his neck. He waited patiently for her to move, and he smiled to himself when he felt her hips begin to rock. His eyes locked onto her face as she moved, looking to see what she might need. She was never overtly vocal during sex, but the hitches in her breathing were a dead giveaway he knew to look for. His hands found her hips, thrusting up to meet her rhythm. Her eyes were closed, brow furrowed in concentration and he took it as his cue.
She made a noise of confusion when his hands stopped her movement, but when he angled her hips and thrust up, he stole the very breath from her lungs. His second thrust had her against his chest, her fingers digging into his skin as he made her toes curl. His thick cock filled her perfectly, and when he wrapped his arms around her body, she was enveloped by him completely. She managed to rest her forehead against his, the two of them breathing each other in as he expertly hit her g-spot again and again.
“Look at me.” he managed to rasp, and when she hesitated, he responded with a harder thrust. “Please” She did as he asked, and she found two blue eyes looking at her. The way he looked at her during times like this, filled with so much love and adoration, it made her feel like she could burst under the weight of that gaze, but all coherent thought left her when his fingers began to circle her clit. She gave in to the feeling that was spreading through her body as the coil in her belly began to wind tighter and tighter.
Sebastian knew she was close; her breaths were getting shallower and quicker, and he could feel her walls begin to pulse and tighten around his cock. When she came, it was gasp followed by a breathy moan that shook him to his very core. He grit his teeth, his hips not stopping when she collapsed against his chest, her body shaking and trembling in his arms. When he came it was with low growl, his hips still moving at a slow, steady pace as he tried to prolong both of their pleasure. He only stopped when he felt her tap his shoulder three times, her signal that she needed him to stop.
She could barely make out the television in the background as Sebastian ran a hand up and down her back. She could however make out his low voice heaping praise on her as she came down from her high, telling her how wonderful she was and how good she was to him. After what felt like ages, she managed to lift her head. When she looked up at Sebastian, his gaze was already on her, a stupid dopey grin on his face.
“There’s my sweet girl.” His voice was low and raspy, she could feel the vibrations through his chest as she lay her head back down.
“Well, that was one way to kick off break with a bang.” He chuckled as she ran her fingers over his bicep. They stayed that way in quiet repose, her eyes were starting to close when he tapped her waist to get her attention.
“Come on, let’s go to bed.”
“Already?” she asked with a confused sleepy expression which made his heart leap in his chest. He helped her off his lap before he stood up, his hands finding their way to her waist as he leaned down to whisper in her ear.
“Don’t think I’m done yet; in about 15 minutes I will be thoroughly prepared to rock your world again.” He had a cheesy grin on his face as he waggled his eyebrows at her for emphasis, and she couldn’t help but chuckle at his eagerness.
“Fine, I’ll be waiting. Why don’t you turn off everything here and, uh…fair warning; if you aren’t in that bed in 15 minutes, I will be starting without you.” She leaned up to place a quick kiss on his lips before she promptly turned and left him stunned.
He watched her walk away, a lovesick smile a mile wide on his lips as she disappeared into their bedroom. He made quick work to turn off the TV and to unplug all of the lights. He quickly fed Alpine, asking the cat to be a good boy and to let Mommy and Daddy have some quiet time alone. As the furry beast dined happily, he gave one last look around the living room before making his way down the hallway to your bedroom, his heart full and happy.
It was going to be a GREAT Winter Break.

Santa Scheme - Derek Hale x Reader
@iamabeautifulperson18 said: Secret Santa with the pack and you propose to Derek cause he is bad at feelings.
a/n: wow i really went OFF with this one. it’s not very Derek-centric till the end, lots of pack interactions and stuff but i hope you like it :))) and yes I am posting a christmas story in july.
sort of like end of season 5 pack plus derek.
warnings: NONE. lots of fluff, i don’t even think i swore in this.
reader is described as: slightly shorter than derek, only mentioned once or twice. no other size, skin, or hair descriptors. i think it’s gender neutral as well?
Lydia had gone out of her way to organize a pack Christmas party this year. She got Derek to let her decorate the loft, even going as far as renting more furniture for the sparsely furnished living space.
She brought in a tree, garlands and lights to hang on the walls, and she even organized a Secret Santa.
She approaches you one day with a small box in her hands and a smile on her face, “Pick your Secret Santa.” she says as she holds the box out to you.
You reach in and pull out a piece of paper.
“Thank you.” Lydia says, about to turn around to go find Derek when you stop her.
“Are we allowed to have other presents, cause I was kind of planning something for the party...” you ask softly.
Lydia gives you a knowing smile as she nods, “l’ll make an exception for you.”
__
“Yes, you have to participate.” Lydia says with a roll of her eyes as she holds out the box full of names for Stiles to pick from.
With a pout on his face, Stiles reaches into the box and pulls out a slip of paper.
He unfolds it and reads the name before shoving the slip of paper into his pocket.
Scott, Malia, and Lydia each take their turns next and then the box is empty, the younger and older members of the pack having already picked their names.
“Good, now everyone has picked their Secret Santa and we can move on to who is bringing what to the party.” Lydia says with a satisfied smile.
Stiles groans and is answered with an elbow in the ribs from Scott.
They each volunteer an item or dish and Lydia walks away happily.
__
You got your Secret Santa present and your other surprise purchased well ahead of time, knowing that the stores would of course be crazy the closer it got to Christmas time. But you ended up at the store the day before Christmas Eve despite your best efforts not to.
And to your not-so-surprise you ran into a few members of the pack doing their last minute Secret Santa preparations.
The next day, you grab your nicely wrapped present and the cookies you made and head to your boyfriend’s loft.
Derek is standing outside in the hallway when you arrive and you furrow your brows in confusion when you spot him leaned up against the wall.
He looks up at your approach and smiles.
He pushes himself off the wall and leans down to wrap his arms around your waist and kiss you softly.
“What are you doing out here?” you ask.
“Lydia kicked me out, she said my sour face was interfering with her decorating process.” he responds with a small smile.
You let out a laugh, knowing Lydia she will want everything to be perfect for this party and imagining her shooing Derek from his own loft so that she can decorate seems right on brand.
The loft door opens a small crack, enough for Lydia to stick her head out to see you.
“Good, you’re here.” she says with a large smile. “Give me your stuff.” she orders, opening the door a little more so she can reach out.
“Hi Lydia, nice to see you too.” you answer, playfully sarcastic as you hand the redhead your present and food.
Lydia simply rolls her eyes and smiles in response, taking your things before shutting the loft door again.
You share a look with Derek and laugh as you move back to where he is leaning against the wall. You lean into his side as he wraps an arm around you.
You stay there as the rest of the pack arrives, Lydia coming out to take their things and not allowing any of them to peek inside until she is ready.
Finally, she opens the door, a wide smile on her face as she steps aside and gestures for you all to enter.
You and the rest of your pack are awed the moment you step inside Derek’s loft.
The place has been transformed. Three large couches make a U shape in the center of the room, a table piled high with all of the Secret Santa gifts sits to the left of it.
The large windows at the back of the room are trimmed with green pine garlands, with red poinsettias throughout. A large wreath hangs in the center.
In front of the windows stands a magnificent tree, beautifully decorated and with a star on top.
A long table covered with a red tablecloth sits to one side of the room, with a large variety of food including the dishes brought by some of the pack members. All of it nicely laid out, with plates and silverware stacked at one end.
You turn to Lydia, your eyes displaying your shock at what she has managed to do to your boyfriend’s loft.
“Lydia,” you breathe, eyes leaving her to roam around the loft once more, “This is amazing.”
“You like it?” she asks, her question open to the entire pack.
A murmur of assent travels through the pack, some of them beginning to wander around the loft to admire the decorations.
Lydia claps her hands together and smiles, “Who’s hungry?”
__
After a delicious meal, full of laughter and fun, Lydia begins the Secret Santa.
Everyone goes to grab the presents that they brought and then give them to their Secret Santa.
You give your present to Liam, Liam gives his to Stiles, Stiles gives his to Mason, Mason gives his to Hayden, Hayden gives hers to Malia, Malia gives hers to Derek, Derek gives his to Scott, Scott gives his to Lydia, and Lydia gives hers to you.
Everyone begins opening their presents, gasps of excitement and ‘thank you’s fill the room.
The gift exchange shows you how much your pack members really know each other, and how much you all listen. There was, of course, a spending limit so that certain members of the pack wouldn’t be allowed to go overboard and spend exorbitant amounts on their gifts.
You got Liam a new bag for his lacrosse gear, knowing that he had accidentally ruined his old one, and you stuck a personalized t-shirt you had made for him inside.
Lydia, having heard you complaining about your wardrobe and not having time to shop for yourself, bought you some new clothes. Just a few items, though she would have liked to get more, all of them fitting your style perfectly while one or two may help you to change it up and step out of your comfort zone. Lydia being Lydia, you know that you can trust her to pick things that will look good on you.
And you couldn’t be more grateful that she knew how helpful this gift would be for you.
Everyone is pleased with their gifts and the party continues as conversations carry throughout the group.
You sit next to Derek, with his arm wrapped around you and your head leaning against his shoulder. You join in a few of the various conversations, sharing laughs with your friends.
When Derek gets up to go get another drink, you stand up too but head over to the window.
Your heartbeat picks up as you run your fingers over the ribbon wrapped around the small box in your hands.
Derek joins you at the window.
“Lydia really did a great job with this place, didn’t she?” he says softly.
You smile and nod, glancing up at the decorations on the window again. You take a deep breath, deciding that now is the time to do this.
“Derek.. I have something for you.”
He furrows his brows as he turns to face you, taking the small box from your hands and studying it, “I thought we were only doing the Secret Santa gifts, no extra ones.”
“Just open it.”
Derek can hear your heart racing, you know that. You also know he can probably tell how nervous you are from your chemo-signals. And you are mildly aware that you’ve caught the attention of the other supernaturals on the other side of the room, though Mason and Stiles are still kind of oblivious.
You ignore these facts though, focusing only on Derek as he unties the ribbon on the box.
He lifts the lid off of the box to reveal a silver band. A ring. Simple and silver, but perfect for him.
He looks up at you, silently asking for you to explain what this is.
“Derek, I.. I know you’re not good at doing stuff like this, you told me on our first date that you’re not good at showing your feelings or doing romantic stuff, and that’s okay, because I love you. With my whole heart, I love you.
“I can’t imagine my future without you in it. So, will you marry me?”
Your heart is pounding in your chest and you know that Derek can hear it. You wonder if he could even hear what you were saying over the pounding of your heart. But when a huge smile takes over his face, you know he heard you.
He closes the gap between you, his arms wrapping tightly around your waist and lifting you off the ground as he crashes his lips against yours.
“Yes.” he whispers as he pulls back, before kissing you one more time.
The cheering of the pack behind you makes you pull away, Derek setting your feet on the ground again as you hide your face in his chest.
You lean back eventually to look back up at Derek, both of you are still smiling widely despite your slight embarrassment as your friends continue to cheer and clap behind you.

Happy holidays! what would the yan ocs dream winter themed date look like? Please
Happy holidays!❄️
My first request for them..I'm so happy💖
Warning this story contains: yandere topics slightly, mostly wholesome but some are suggestive but nothing outright nsfw.
Theodore
A wholesome date
It's snowing and he honestly doesn't want you to get sick so he would have you two stay inside
Prepare for a baking date
From gingerbread to peppermint bark
He of course takes control of the date and makes sure to keep you away from sharp things
He will try to do everything by himself because he worries about you getting hurt
After you stubbornly decline that he has you be the taste tester
After each treat he gives you a kiss to taste it himself
He loves being with you in the kitchen cause baking + his angel= happy boy
If you try to start a food war he will scold you
After baking you two would cuddle while watching Christmas movies, eating sweets, and drinking hot cocoa
"sweetie, can you pass me the frosting I'm almost done"
"hmm? Oh sure theo!"
You passed the tub of bright red frosting to the male only for him to finish decorating the gingerbread cookies once done you both carried all those sweet treats to the living room table before setting up for movie night, you looked out the window with a soft sigh
"can we go outside tommorow?"
"hmm for a little bit but it will be cold"
"we can make a snowman!"
"sweetie, being in the cold for too long isn't good how about we do something else"
You gave a pout as theo sat on the couch looking at you hating your upset expression he sighs as he fixed his glasses
"fine, only for a little bit sweetie but for now come here..relax in my arms okay?"
You had a bright smile as you walked over plopping down in the male's lap feeling his arms wrap around you tightly
Hikaru
holiday Shopping
Will dress up in an adorable holiday costume
Forces you to dress up too cause matching outfits
He wants to buy you cute shoes
Yeah it's snowing hard...but like snow boots!
Will force you to try on like 60 pairs of shoes
Will also take a ton of selfies with you while getting boba
Will spoil you with affection while you two are out
If you act up though he will degrade you just a bit to get you to behave
All around good date but he can be a bit annoying
"hey hikaru can we go home? My feet hurt"
"don't be such a little baby [y/n], don't you want to look cute?"
You looked over at your boyfriend who was dressed up in an adorable santa sweater, black tights, and black heel boots to match. He forced you to be his raindeer and honestly it was a little embarrassing but he seemed to be having a good time
In your hands were bags upon bags all being outfits or shoes that hikaru bought for both you and him, he was a grinning mess but he saw your frown and couldn't help but falter..were you truly not having fun?
With a huff he simply linked his arm with yours before pulling you along towards the mall food court, it was time for you two to relax from all the walking
Once you two sat down at a table with boba and food hikaru was far more loving and affectionate even being as sweet as to hold your hand while resting his head on your shoulder
"ah, I pulled you along everywhere huh?"
"mhmm.."
"heyyy! Don't give me those bored responses! We had fun! I spoiled you today so the least you can do is thank me!"
You were going to speak more but jolted at the feeling of a rough kiss along with someone's to the shoved down your throat. With a startled moan you kissed back before pulling away seeing hikaru lick his lips happily
"so yummy huh baby? I say that was a good thank you, when we get home we can do things that I know you will like..after all you can't say no to me"
Haha you're in danger.
Axis
Firework Festival date!
He likes the sounds of the bustling of people and the smell of good food
You don't really know why he's so obsessed with fireworks when he can't see it but it makes him happy
You two play a bunch of games and eat yummy food
Idiot wore shorts and a tank top so he's freezing cold but of course he was way too excited to care about coldness
Is like a giddy kid
Once the fireworks start he's in utter awe
Wants to get as close as he can
"what do they look like..?"
"bright and kinds like glitter"
Both you and axis sat on the grass staring at the sky as the fireworks popped and lit up the dark snowy sky, your fingers interlaced together tightly as the sounds of popping made axis only grin more
"fireworks, even the name sounds pretty..I always wanted to see what they look like. I mean I can feel it on my face but I bet they look pretty huh?"
"ax, you're crying.."
Axis reached up touching his cheeks only to feel tears, he let out a nervous laugh and wiped his eyes before a wave of embarrassment hit him hard
"ah! Sorry sorry! I get all emotional! Ah I just love you and I love this date! Are you having a good time? Oh God what if you aren't having a good time?! [Y/n] are you enjoying yourself cause we ca-"
"axis, I'm having fun! It's okay so relax..I mean..you look so happy its honestly so cute"
Suddenly axis wrapped his arms around you kissing you all over with a happy laugh
"[y/nnnnnnn]! Marry me! Just marry me already okay? I love you! So much!"
You petted your boyfriend on the head before your eyes landed on the beautiful fireworks and you simply couldn't help but smile as nothing but love filled you both
Prince
Okay so originally he wanted to just screw you and call that a date but apparently that's not romantic
Decided on taking you to a Christmas party as a date
He kinda just wanted to get drunk and make out with you
Ends up having a good time
Seeing you laughing with his friends made him happy
He got to dance with you so that's always a plus
Getting you drunk was really fun
It's been a while since you two just got wasted and had fun so it felt nice
Hearing you slut your words made him chuckle
"babyyyyy!"
"yeah babe?"
Prince watched as you landed in his lap with eggnog in your hand, you clearly had way too much to drink but of course he wasn't stopping you cause this was amusing to him
"I think, you're the hottest guy like everrrrrrr~"
"oh yeah?"
"hmmm I want santa to give me you for Christmas"
Prince grinned as he turned his head away now chuckling before feeling you press sloppy kisses on his neck and cheek. He honestly didn't mind the pda but he didn't want it to go too far
"alright alright, cool it before you do something crazy"
"noooo, let me love youuuu"
At this point he was just laughing as he held you close now softly kissing your cheek before lifting you up in his arms, walking out the house and towards the car
"I love you prince, so much.. you're.. perfect"
He watched as you started to fall asleep and felt a flushed feeling come over him as he out you in the back seat of the car
"I love you too baby, more than you could ever know"
Yuki
He really didn't want to go out he just wanted to sleep
But there was this new movie you wanted to see so he figured a date night should happen
He was never a fan of overly cheery Christmas movies but you seem to be a fan so he endured
He promised you he wouldn't fall asleep during this date
During the movie he totally fell asleep so he took you at to eat as an apology
You two went to Walmart at like 2am and we're chaotic as hell
He filled the cart up with ramen cups while you kept telling him to put it back
Just a chaotic date all around
He honestly liked it though
To end the night/early morning you two went to eat waffles
He liked how sleepy yet weird you acted
He could watch you talk for hours
Hearing you talk was better than any movie
"hey yuki, do you like me?"
The question shocked the male as he looked at you from across the diner table as he took a sip of coffee, what would make you ask such a thing. He couldn't respond very well cause he was in shock but he gave a steady nod
"oh, you do? That makes me happy..you don't really say I love you so I sometimes forget yknow?"
Yuki reached out grabbing your hands and looking you dead in the eyes, his bright green eyes making you blush
"I love you. More than sleep"
The praise made you blush more as you leaned forward to kiss the male only to hear a sharp cough from the waitress. The teo of you looked over and yuki scowled lightly at the person for ruining his moment
"excuse me, it's 5am...are you two finished"
"oh yeah, sorry about tha-"
"no."
You tensed at your boyfriend who was blunt as ever and locked eyes with the worker using a scary glare to spook them off, you couldn't help but sigh
"but yuki, it's late we have to go yeah? Aren't you tired?"
"I'm not done saying how much I love you."
With that the male sat there for the next hour spilling his true feelings and as the snow came down you felt nothing but love though you did feel bad for the worker who looked terrified and was currently writing their will incase yuki slaughtered them.

Cinema Rose
Hello! This is Nana here with my secret santa gift for @softsungchan! It’s been a while since I’ve written anything, and this is not proof read ;-; but I really hope you enjoy this. Have a super merry Christmas and a happy new year! I’d also like to wish @lucaswithnoshirt and @bumblebeenct a really wonderful Christmas and say thank you for organising this awesome event :D.
Genres: Fluff, comedy (I really tried)
Word count: 2024
Warnings: A few swear words, mentions of a heart attack, and old cinemas? (I am not very good at these, if you find anything else I should add,
lease let me know and I’ll put them in ^^).
————————————————————————————————————————————————
Remixes of old christmas songs blasted from the speakers around him, and Taeil sang along quietly while he made his way to the old cinema at the end of the shopping district.
It hadn’t been long since school had ended and he’d been too bored to stay at home and too tired from the school year to make plans with others.
So, he decided to walk around the places he always went to, but never paid any attention to. Like the shopping district he walked through on his way to school.
He’d heard from Taeyong, a junior he knew from middle school, about an old cinema that played christmas movies during the holidays for free. Taeil was skeptical at first. Playing movies for the whole month of December for free?
After some reconnaissance (read: asking his parents), he’d found that the place was apparently so old that the carpets smelled like caramel popcorn and old socks, and the lights flickered if you stayed after 7pm. They were surprised that it was even still open because of how decrepit the outside looks.
So, his initial impression of the old cinema hadn’t been the best, and he’d shrugged away any thoughts of visiting it.
Until today, that is.
His parents were out on a gift buying spree for their relatives, and his younger sister had been dragged along, which she wasn’t happy about, judging by her fierce grumbling as she slammed the car door shut when they were leaving.
So that meant that he had escaped the drudgery that was Christmas shopping, but he’d also been left at home alone with effectively nothing to do.
He’d finished playing all his games during the school year, instead of studying of course. There was also no way he’d actually be responsible and look over material for next year so he could get ahead of his classes. Which left him with only a few options:
He could go back to sleep, or restart some random game and play it all over again, or he could just wander around outside and find something to do.
‘Right.’ He thought to himself as he grabbed a jacket, his phone and house keys,
‘Guess I’ll just walk around.’
—————————————————————-
He’d walked around most of his neighbourhood, and without realising it, his feet lead him on the familiar path of the local shopping district. It was usually a bustling place, full of loud voices calling out to customers, and children playing around.
Today was no different and Taeil, who’d spent his whole holidays so far inside, found the change of pace refreshing. Despite the chilly weather and the fact that he really wasn’t wearing nearly enough layers for how cold he felt, he was enjoying the vibrant atmosphere of the street.
Shutting his mind off, he was content to explore the streets around him.
——————————————————————————————————
You stood slouched at the counter, face blank and head rested in your hands. You drummed your fingers against your cheeks and let out a long sigh.
Burying your head into your hands and groaning softly, you wondered to yourself why you got yourself into this in the first place.
When your uncle had asked you to work at the old cinema for the holidays, you’d initially been okay with it.
After all, it was quick money and, knowing how bad the sales were, you wouldn’t need to interact with people that much.
You valued your space after all, and serving customers was never really something you felt happy doing. Plus, it was fun to have the place to yourself for most of the day, and you were never low on snacks to eat.
In hindsight, you should have predicted the boredom that would come with standing around for the whole day. Even with your phone, there were only so many times you could refresh Twitter and Instagram and find something interesting to look at.
Day in and day out, you were stuck in the dark cinema with flickering lights and musty carpets, and it was slowly driving you insane.
You bit your lip and creased your eyebrows, mulling over if it would be that big of a deal to just leave the counter and go home. It was nearly closing time anyway, and you couldn’t imagine what poor fool would come to this dusty cinema when it was almost Christmas.
‘Everyone’s busy with decorating and gift buying, no one’s even gonna come here.’
You told yourself.
With your conscience cleared and stomach empty, you gathered as much popcorn as you could fit in the largest container, locked the counter and headed outside.
——————————————————————————————————
Taeil stared at the sign in front of him.
‘Cinema Rose’s Merry Christmas special event! For the whole month of December, watch a movie for free!’
It read.
He wondered how he managed to end up here, of all places. Especially after he’d promised himself so many times that he wouldn’t bother. Then he wondered if he even remembered the way he came.
‘Shit,’ he thought to himself
‘How am I gonna get home?’
He took a deep breath and looked around frantically, trying to find a familiar looking path. All of the streets looked new to him.
Finding nothing he recognised, he was about to pull out his phone when he heard the entrance to the cinema open.
His head whipped to face the doors and he saw a girl around his age in a baggy uniform carrying an obscene amount of popcorn in her hands. Her back was facing him and she looked like she was trying to lock the door.
‘She must work here! Nice, I can ask her for directions!’
So he mustered up his courage and cleared his throat and called out to the girl.
“E-excuse me, I’m a bit lost, could you please help me?” He cursed himself for his shaking voice.
The girl turned around and stared at him for bit with a confused expression, then blinked and replied,
“O-oh, yeah, sure! Where did you want directions to?” Her soft voice was gentle when she spoke to him, and Taeil was a bit flustered. She wasn’t only pretty, but had a cute voice too?
The same could be said for you.
You hadn’t noticed him standing in front of the cinema at first, so you were a bit startled when he suddenly spoke to you.
You turned to see who it was, and nearly had a heart attack. A boy around your age you’d assume, with a large puffy jacket and kind looking eyes. He’d appeared so suddenly that you were surprised.
He was so pretty you were shocked stiff for a few seconds, but you snapped yourself out of it and hurried to reply.
You cursed yourself for stuttering and hoped he didn’t notice. His blank face at your reply made it seem like he didn’t. You thanked the heavens above and waited for him to continue speaking.
“R-right.” He cleared his throat and you stifled a snort. You both seemed to be nervous around each other.
“Do you know the shopping district near the local all-boys school? My neighbourhood is around there so I just wanted to know how I could get to that area?” He explained.
You nodded at his words.
Despite being a homebody, you did like to go on walks quite regularly, and you lived close to the cinema so you knew the area like the back of your hand. You were about to tell him the way when your brain stopped you.
‘Wait, _____,’ It said to you.
‘If you just give him directions, who knows when you’ll see him again! If you’ll see him again! Don’t lose this opportunity, you’re already lonely enough as it is!’
Your brain made a compelling last minute argument, and you couldn’t help but agree. Your family had been here for a long time, but you had grown up in a different city for most of your life.
You’d only come here to spend the holidays with your aunt and uncle because your parents were away on business. You hadn’t managed to make any friends, so all you could do was stay at home or walk around the cinema or your house.
You at least wanted to try to make friends before you left, then it wouldn’t be so hard to be in this town while you stayed until school started again.
Taeil was staring at you with a worried expression while you were going through your little crisis, and he tried calling out to you to get your attention. It didn’t work, so he stepped closer to you and waved a hand in front of your face, causing you to flinch and shout out in surprise.
“Woah! What the heck?”
“Sorry-“ Taeil said with wide eyes and a small frown on his face,
“I called out to you but you wouldn’t respond so I- sorry…” His voice was quiet and apologetic and you felt bad.
“No! No, not at all, it’s my fault! I just got distracted because I was trying to remember the way, sorry about that.” You told him. He seemed to believe your poorly thought out lie with the way his eyes brightened in understanding and his head nodded along.
You inwardly wiped the sweat off your forehead and tried to make the most friendly expression you could muster after a whole day of standing around with nothing to do.
“I’m not very good with explaining, so would it be ok if I just showed you the way? My house is nearby too, so it wouldn’t be out of my way.” You said to him cheerily. You hoped he’d buy this lie too.
He smiled widely at you, and you almost felt a bit bad about imposing your presence on this boy you’d just met.
‘But this is all for friendship! Maybe more, but don’t get so ahead of yourself!’
“That would be great, thanks! If you’re sure it won’t be a bother!” He chirped. You nearly melted inside at how polite he was being with you.
Returning his smile and asking him to follow you, you lead the way out of the cinema and made your way to the shopping district, trying your hardest to think of something to talk about. Which wasn’t as hard as you thought.
For every question you could ask, Taeil had an answer. You quickly learned that he was really easy to get along with, and he was great at carrying conversations. He was awkward at first, but you soon found a rhythm while talking and before you knew it you made your way to the shopping district near his house. Your footsteps slowed and you both halted at the entrance, a lull now forming when you both stopped talking.
You stayed silent, not knowing what to say, stuck in your head with worries that he might not want to talk anymore after this. That he only continued conversations with you because he was bored.
Taeil’s voice broke through your thoughts. His voice soft and nervous again as he asked you for your number.
Your face heated up at his straightforward request bit complied, albeit with shaky hands. After you both put your phones away, Taeil spoke again.
“Hey, ____. I had lots of fun with you today. So uh-“ He fumbled with the strings of his hood,
“Do you wanna meet tomorrow as well? I get that you have work, but I could go to the cinema and we could hang out there? O-only if you want to!”
His eyes looked anywhere but you and you could see in his smile that he was worried about you refusing.
You grinned and shook your head.
“I’d love to see you tomorrow, Taeil. I really had fun today too!”
You spoke in the most sincere tone you could and hoped he could sense it. With the way he beamed at you after you replied, you were sure he understood you.
With that you both parted ways, and walked home with smiles on your faces, and chests so warm no amount of snow could make you feel cold.

minerva mcgonagall’s personal mission to make severus love christmas part 4
aka snolidays/snapemas day 5 and 6 (lights festival, food, memories, stockings) // pre-PS/the years between. minerva and severus friendship // ft. the hogwarts staff gently bullying sev and getting wine drunk together. mentions of sev’s plum blancmange @deepperplexity @blog4snape
The rest of the week passed by in a blur of teaching, brewing, and general sulking.
The term wouldn’t end until late January, but final exams were scheduled for the week before winter break and Severus had a thousand other things to finalize before the break started. There was a stack of assignments he needed to grade before everyone parted, the annual inventory that needed to be done, and he had about half a dozen cauldrons slowly simmering away with potions for the infirmary, not to mention he was creating both a study guide for the upcoming exam and an assignment that could be turned in for extra credit.
If even one student dared to fail his class after all the effort he put into making sure they passed, he was going to turn them all into frogs.
He almost felt bad that he hadn’t made much time for Minerva, and aside from seeing each other at meals - and even then, Severus wasn’t quite known for his perfect attendance in the Great Hall - he hadn’t spoken more than eight words to her since their trip to Diagon Alley.
It wasn’t as if he were avoiding her.
Much.
He just needed a few days to himself - as much as he could get when he taught two classes a day (three on Wednesdays and Thursdays) anyway. He knew the only reason they hadn’t talked about his miniscule breakdown was because they had been in public and maybe he was a little afraid of being cornered by her in private.
It was Friday now, his afternoon class had just ended, he had already checked on the status of his cauldrons, so all that was left on his to-do list was to hide himself away inside of his quarters and sulk.
Except he was all out of sugar.
Alright, not the worst problem to have and yes, he could call up a house elf and simply ask for the container to be refilled, but maybe a small part of him wanted to run into Minerva on neutral ground, so he wouldn’t have to knock on her door and risk coming off as lonely and needy. So rather than being a normal-functioning adult about this, he took his coffee ground-filled french press and flooed directly into the staff lounge.
He didn’t spend very much time in this particular room - large, brightly lit, and nestled between two towers somewhere on the fourth floor with large windows that overlooked the quidditch pitch - but it wasn’t for lack of trying. He found the lounge to be rather appealing, with its burning fireplace, sitting area, stacks of abandoned books, journals, and magazines, abundance of cabinets he liked to rifle through, and best of all, the fully stocked coffee bar off to the left of the round table.
The room wasn’t empty, and unfortunately, devoid of the person whom he was seeking. Pomona was sitting at the table with a cup of tea, poring over a stack of papers with a furrowed brow and a bit of ink smeared over her cheek. Aurora was sitting on the lone couch, momentarily distracted from the magazine she had been leafing through to look up at him as he entered, eyebrow raised at the contraption he cradled.
“What brings you here?” she asked, flicking her wand towards the record player and lowering the music that had been softly playing.
The action caused the herbology professor to look up and she frowned. “Oh, Severus.” she greeted, barely giving him more than a cursory glance. “I haven’t seen you here in a bit; thought you might have forgotten where it was.”
“Well, he did floo.” Professor Sinistra returned, her lips curling into a grin. “It’s quite possible he forgot where to find the door.”
“I didn’t forget.” Severus scowled, making his way towards the bar.
“You tell yourself that.”
“There’s tea if you want some.” Pomona called out, raising her own teacup. “Mint.”
He ignored the steaming teapot in favor of the kettle, flicking his wand to heat up the water before pouring a little over the grounds in the press. He missed the simple pleasures of having an electric coffee maker - perhaps the only positive that came from summers at Spinner's End - but he would be lying if he said he didn’t prefer the taste of the pretentious, one-cup-at-a-time brew.
While the grounds took the time to presoak, he wandered over to the pink pastry box and eyed its contents. The house elves always made sure to stock the staff room with snacks - biscuits, fruit, packages of crisps - but pastries from the local bakery were the most sought out after.
“The blueberry strudel belongs to Filius,” Pomona suddenly mentioned, not looking up from her task, “he’s already claimed it.”
Severus scowled at the remaining treat. “He’s not here, is he?” he mumbled, opening the box. He yelped as something sharp pierced his hand and drew back immediately, his face coloring slightly as Aurora started laughing.
“Like she said,” Aurora chuckled. “Filius already claimed it.”
Severus cursed under his breath and returned to his coffee, pulling down a clean mug and the sugar jar on the way. He was pouring the rest of the hot water when the door opened.
“French press again?” Minerva’s voice asked.
“Like he makes it any other way.” Aurora returned. “Professor I-Brew-Potions-For-A-Living is, unsurprisingly, the coffee snob among us.”
“I am not.” Severus frowned, placing the plunger over the glass and giving it a slight swirl before setting it aside. “It’s not my fault the rest of you don’t have any taste.”
“Oh, the baby thinks he has taste.”
Severus blinked. “Perhaps I’ll refrain from giving you a gift this year after all.” he muttered, glaring at her. “Also, you’re the second youngest professor here.”
“But not the youngest.” Aurora grinned. “That pleasure is all yours, I’m afraid.”
Before Severus could form a rebuttal, Pomona stood up and gathered her papers, rushing towards the door with an annoyed, “I can’t get any work done with you two around.” Aurora followed suit, magazine under her arm, a cheeky, “baby” escaping her lips as she closed the door behind her.
Severus sat down in Pomona’s abandoned chair, hands in his hair, as he groaned out a, “I’m most definitely not giving her a gift now.”
Minerva laughed and sat down across from him, a cup of mint tea in her hands.
“Are we still on for tomorrow?”
“The lights?”
Minerva nodded and he considered her question as he got up to finish making his coffee. He grabbed milk from the cold cupboard and then stopped to look at her. “What if we went tonight, instead?”
“Tonight?”
Severus shrugged, sitting down with his cup and a package of biscuits. “We can grab dinner beforehand, I’m thinking Italian.”
“Really?”
“Invite some of the others.”
Minerva eyed him carefully. “Do my ears deceive me, Severus Snape, or are you suggesting a staff outing to see the lights? You?”
“Don’t push it.”
“I’ll let everybody know.”
--
“I think we should hang the stockings in the staff room.”
“What?”
“The stockings.” Minerva emphasized, buttoning her capelet. She was standing in front of her dressing mirror, adjusting the green tartan fabric over her shoulders. She was wearing a long sleeved dress under it and, no doubt, a warming charm had already been cast over the black fabric. Her hair was free of its usual pins, the soft curls seemingly trying their best to retain their accustomed shape.
They were both in her private quarters, Severus sprawled on her couch with a book, as she finished getting ready for their outing. He had opted for his usual black on black on black, but had foregone his cloak for the grey wool coat he rarely wore.
So rarely, that when he put his hands in his pockets, he came across the crumpled ticket of a play he had seen two winters ago.
He couldn’t remember much about the show itself, but it had been the first time he had been invited to go out by his fellow colleagues and he had jumped at the chance. Of course, he had first pretended to consider it for half a day before telling Albus that he had nothing better to do that day and that he might as well tag along.
“Are you listening?”
“No.” Severus admitted, returning to the present.
Minerva scowled. “I said, we should hang the stockings we bought in the staff room. It’s got a fireplace and the room is awfully drab, don’t you think? Plus, it's neutral ground so both our stockings can be up together.”
“Well, alright.”
“Excellent, let’s go then.”
“Now?”
“We have dinner reservations at seven - which is in twenty minutes, I might add - so yes, right now. Before we’re late.”
They flooed into the staff lounge, finding Aurora leafing through a book and listening to music once again. She raised an eyebrow at the paper shopping bag they were carrying.
“What’s this?”
“Christmas.” Minerva replied simply, pulling out a stocking and handing it over. His name was now stitched along the edge in black thread and he frowned.
“When did-?”
“I asked the house elves when we first got back.”
They hung their stockings on the mantle with a temporary sticking charm and surveyed their work.
“I expect the rest of you to have a stocking on here by next week.” Minerva insisted, taking Severus’ hand and leading him out the door. “Come now, or we’ll be late.”
“Aren’t you coming?” Severus asked Aurora, pretending to eye her teaching robes in confusion. “We’re going out to dinner and then the lights festival.”
Aurora scowled at him, eyeing him carefully. “I would, but I have a class tonight.” she muttered, glancing out the window at the darkened sky. It was cloudless and few stars could be seen from her vantage point; there was no reason to cancel Astronomy tonight.
“Oh, that’s a shame.” Severus shrugged, turning around quickly to hide his smirk. “I wouldn’t have chosen tonight if I knew.”
“Liar.”
The door closed behind them.
“You know I don’t approve of this.” Minerva told him, as they made their way down the stairs and out of the castle.
“Don’t approve of what?”
Minerva shook her head at him, but didn’t answer.
They met Filius at the front door, his too-long blue scarf trailing behind him as they made their way towards the apparition point. They met Pomona on the way and once they cleared the wards, apparated into an alley close to the restaurant.
Albus was already waiting inside, looking perfectly at ease in his three-piece suit, sipping on a glass of white wine.
“Ah, there you all are.” he greeted them, as they took their seats. “This wine is absolutely wonderful, by the way - do order a glass.”
“Someone dressed up for the occasion.” Minerva eyed the headmaster.
“I wear it quite well, don’t I?”
They were brought water glasses and bread, offered three types of wine - “I really must insist on the pinot gris.” Albus interrupted - and given a set of menus.
“It’s been a while since we’ve all gone out.” Filius mentioned, taking a slice of baguette and dipping it in olive oil and balsamic. “It’s quite nice.”
“We have Severus to thank for the idea,” Albus grinned, clasping a hand on his shoulder. He flinched slightly, but he didn’t think anyone noticed.
Except for Albus, who immediately dropped his hand and offered an apologetic look.
They ordered - and unsurprisingly, Minerva ordered herself the special - and fell into easy conversation as they waited for their meal. When the food arrived, it was met with excited sounds from the (perhaps a little wine-tispy) table and plates were quickly passed around with insistent, “You need to try this fried stracchino!” and “I swear, you will never taste a better beef stracotto pasta than this one.” and even a, “Listen, I know it sounds weird, but I’m telling you - you have to try the baccala! I don’t care if you don’t like fish!”
The dessert menu left him a little discombobulated and he ordered himself coffee while the others shared rum babas and marzipan balls. One of the rum soaked sponge cakes was pushed towards him, split down the middle and filled with cream and sour cherries. He glanced up from his bicerin to find Minerva watching him.
“Try it, before these vultures get to it.”
He obliged, cutting a piece off with his fork.
“Why are you frowning?” Minerva asked, leaning closer. The others were a little pink-faced, laughing, as they played a game of rock-parchment-diffundo for the last chocolate and marzipan ball. “We are eating delicious food and drinking delicious wine - two things I know you like - and then we’re going to see the lights with all our friends. You shouldn’t be frowning.”
“I think you’ve had enough wine.”
She made a face at him. “Oh, let me guess.” she pursed her lips. “You have some sort of traumatic childhood memory involving all of this and you are currently reliving it in your head.”
Severus scowled. “I don’t have a traumatic memory for everything.”
“Could have fooled me.” Pomona spoke up, inserting herself into their conversation. The others stopped and turned to look at him. “You’re so grumpy all the time, I just figured your whole life was simply continuous trauma.”
“I’ll revoke your christmas gift too, don’t test me.”
Pomona straightened up. “Oh, you got me a gift?”
“No.”
“Don’t lie!” Pomona grinned, pointing at him. “You got me a gift!”
“Don’t think you’re special.” Severus muttered. “It’s not just you.”
“Severus got us all gifts!” Filius realized. “Severus loves us!”
He made eye contact with the headmaster. “Consider this my official resignation.”
Albus nodded, his expression turning serious. “Of course, my boy, I understand.” His eyes twinkled. “It’s a shame my staff cannot be more professional when they venture out of the castle walls, but alas, there is a reason I do not let them wander far.”
“Truly awful.”
“Severus loves us!” Pomona repeated and the table burst into giggles, save for Severus who covered his face with his hands. And he was the youngest of this lot?
They paid soon after that - Severus discretely cancelling the silencing and repelling charms they had cast on their table to hurry them along - and made their way towards the nearby park where the lights festival had been set up. The others wandered off on their own, leaving Minerva and Severus to walk the paths alone.
Once the others had wandered far enough ahead that their conversation would no longer carry, Minerva learned slightly into her friend, nudging his shoulder. “Now will you tell me?”
“It’s not a traumatic childhood memory, if that’s what you mean.”
“But you did remember something.” Minerva pressed.
“Yes.”
The path they walked was illuminated by tiny orbs, leading towards a tunnel strung with hundreds of white and blue lights. As they walked through it, Severus fell silent and simply looked up, sneaking glances of the night sky beyond the wire cage that held up all the lights.
There was a giant christmas tree waiting for them when they exited the tunnel, made entirely of green and gold twinkles - strings of lights pulled taut from a metal pole and pinned onto the ground. Similar displays surrounded it, contraptions of metal and colored lights creating bow-tied gift boxes and ornaments, stars and snowflakes, all glowing in the dark.
All the natural trees were wrapped in lights as well, not a single twig or branch left uncovered. Giant, glowing candy canes dotted the path now and they followed it, taking in every sparkling display. Music was playing and though others wandered the path, no one stood too close.
“I remember my mum used to make this dessert when I was little, it was a blancmange made from dirigible plum and cardamom, I believe."
"Oh?"
"She used to tell my father they were persimmons." he smiled softly. "Said she learned the recipe from her grandmother. It was probably my favorite part of the holiday break. I helped her make it one year; funnily enough, that was also the last Christmas I had with her."
"You said it wasn't a traumatic memory." Minerva scolded.
"It's not." Severus defended himself. "It's one of my only good ones."
"There was blancmange on the menu." Minerva remembered, smiling sadly. She watched a pair of children run between the candy canes, their laughs echoing as they chased each other.
"Fig leaf and orange." Severus recited. "It made me realize I haven't seen anywhere serve that particular dessert, let alone one made from dirigible plums. I miss it."
"Perhaps we could make it."
"You think?"
"Why not?"
Minerva nodded towards a coffee stall and they ordered themselves the gingerbread hot chocolate. They cradled their red paper cups and took small sips as they wandered through the park, pointing out certain displays.
"Perhaps nostalgia is getting the best of me." Severus finally circled back to their conversation. "But I find myself wanting to try. I don't have much left to remind me of her, especially not without also thinking of my father, but that one? That one's all ours."
"Elphinstone and I used to make a yule log cake." Minerva offered. "Down to the mushroom meringues and everything."
"I've never had one."
"Well, perhaps a baking day is in order."
"Perhaps it is."

a/n: this is starting to feel more like minerva and severus' adventures in eating out
hope you enjoyed the staff picking on my problem child a little
menu inspiration comes from bocca di lupo, london (sometimes i wonder if places ever search themselves to see what people are saying and find they're being featured in harry potter fanfics and the like)
stracchino - a soft, creamy cheese which the restuarant serves fried stracotto - italian pot roast, served with pasta here baccala - preserved, salted cod (fried) bicerin - a hot drink made from espresso, drinking chocolate, and milk blancmange - this one's special because i took a direct quote from the hogwarts mystery game, where sev reminisces about this dessert and gave it more backstory. its a sort of gelatin dessert, sweet and milky. bocca di lupo has a fig and orange panna cotta on their menu, which is basically the same thing (just different thickeners) so i traded it out for the sake of using the one tidbit i know about the game.

Sugar with a Side of Coffee Ch. 3
A/N: This is the new, rewritten chapter three. Enjoy! :)
Ch.1 Ch. 2 Ch. 2.5
Chapter 3: A Night Out
Friday came around fast, and with a rainy morning, so the girls opted not to put out the cart. The little shop was quite busy, filling with both cart customers and the regular shop customers. Between orders, Marta discussed her plans with Cate.
“So, I was thinking that we could go back to yours, I could borrow some clothes, and then we can go straight out to the pub on 18th street!” It was clear that Marta had been planning this all along. Cate laughed and shook her head.
“I think you just have your eyes on that red shirt you found the last time you slept over.” Cate remembered when her and Marta got wine drunk together and had put on a bit of a fashion show for Shrimp. Marta had discovered a bright red long sleeve shirt, with a deep neckline. Cate had not worn it in years, the last she remembered of that shirt was a failed date.
“Okay, you caught me, but it’s so cute!” Marta whined. “And I haven’t seen my cat nephew in like a week!”
Marta had driven them both to Cate’s apartment in her car. Once in the door, Marta scooped up Shrimp and coddled him like a baby. He gently swiped a paw up to her face. Cate made her way to the bedroom to get down to business.
“So if you’re wearing the red top, what does that leave me?” Cate called out, examining her hangers. “I have this green dress that's not too fancy? No, too christmas-y” she continues rummaging through each hanger. Marta walked in carrying Shrimp and stood next to Cate.
“What about that?” Marta pointed to the right side of Cate’s closet. Cate followed her gaze and pulled a black satin-like fabric tank top off a hanger. “Actually, I changed my mind, I’ll wear this and you can wear the red top!” Marta released Shrimp, who ran off, flicking his ears, and Marta traded her work uniform for the black tank top and white jeans. Cate quickly found the red top, discarding her white button up for it. She threw her work pants in the laundry bin and pulled on black jeans and tucked the red top into them.
“Okay, remind me again why you hate this top? It’s so hot!” Marta eyed her best friend. Cate grabbed some gold bangles to pull over the long sleeves. Marta grabbed her friend’s hands and spun her to face her. “Seriously, Cate!” Marta gestured to Cate’s cleavage that was now being shown off. Cate blushed, and grabbed a pair of heels for herself and Marta.
The bar on 18th was shaped like a giant rectangle, with the bartenders in the middle tending to the patrons on the outer perimeter. Cate and Marta were sitting on one of the shorter ends of the bar. They were almost shouting at each other to be heard over the music.
“Did you get Spencer’s number from the other night?” Marta asked loudly after sipping her vodka cran. Cate looked at her water, thinking that she should order one for Marta so she would slow down her drinking.
“No,” she shook her head to make sure she was understood. As she glanced around the bar, her eyes landed on an all too familiar face at the other end of the bar. There sat amongst a group was Spencer. Marta followed Cate’s gaze.
“Well, no time like the present!” Marta stood up and tugged Cate out of her seat.
On the other side of the bar, Spencer was nursing a ginger ale while he watched JJ play darts with Emily. Derek was ordering another beer for himself and Rossi. The team’s casework was completed rather early for a Friday night, so the unit had gone out for a few drinks to celebrate.
“I don’t know why I agreed to this.” Emily grumbled, getting smoked by JJ and her insanely accurate dart skills.
“Oh, come on. I’m going easy on you!” JJ tossed another dart. Rossi laughed under his breath, taking his new beer from Derek. Spencer was still oblivious, watching the dart tournament between JJ and Emily.
“Dibs.” Marta turned back to Cate after staring at Derek even when he turned away. The girls approached Derek and Spencer.
“Hi,” Marta said, looking at Spencer. His eyes widened, flustered, looking at the clearly buzzed girl in front of him. Cate rolled her eyes at her friend for putting on her flirting voice. “Didn’t think I’d see you here, sweater vest.”
“Um, I’m sorry, do I know you?” he asked Marta honestly.
“We’re pretty hard to recognize without the aprons.” Marta shrugged. Derek sauntered over as Spencer looked at him for help. Spencer finally saw Cate from behind Marta. When he pulled his eyes up to meet hers, he realized she was the girl from the coffee shop, wearing something very low cut. Cate exhaled, trying to calm her nerves. This is not how she envisioned tonight, babysitting a buzzed Marta, and standing in front of Spencer in such a scandalous top.
“That would be Marta.” Cate gestured to her friend. “Her parents own The Empty Mug.” She told Spencer, seeing as he’d been frequenting the coffee cart.
“And this,” Marta side hugged Cate tightly. “Is one of my bestest friends, Catherine.” Marta grinned widely, proud of her antics. “But you already knew that, didn’t you, Spencer.” Marta gave him a wink. Cate wished Marta hadn’t pregamed so hard at her apartment before they left.
“What do we have here? Derek.” He introduced himself with a handshake. Marta giggled as she took his hand. Cate looked to Spencer, hoping he wasn’t getting the wrong impression of them.
“She doesn’t get out much” Cate tried to explain with a smile. Cate noticed the nonalcoholic drink in his hands.
“Ah, so I see you’ve gotten picked as designated driver too?” Cate raised her glass of water. Spencer opened his mouth, but nothing was coming out.
Hotch, JJ, and Prentiss watched from the distance of their table near the dart boards. Penelope and Rossi returned from the new age electronic jukebox. Penelope was the first to speak what was on the team’s mind.
“Who are those girls talking to Derek and Reid?” She looks towards JJ and Emily.
“No idea.” JJ spoke. Despite the curiosity, none of them made a move towards Morgan or Reid.
“Poor Reid, his IQ must be flying out the window.” Emily watched Spencer as he watched the girls walk to the bathroom. She decided that now would be a good time to approach the boys about their new friends.
When they made it to the boys, Rossi bent down and pretended to pick something up. When he stood up, he held out his hand to Spencer.
“I think you dropped this, kid.” Rossi told Spencer. Spencer looked at him quizzically. “It’s your jaw.” The team laughed, while Spencer just blushed.
“I don’t know why I still hang around you guys.” Spencer laughed, shaking his head.
“They work at The Empty Mug.” Derek spoke up. “You better work your magic, Pretty Boy, and get them to deliver to the BAU.”
“Oh, I second that! The coffee was great.” Emily agreed. The team scattered when they saw the girls returning, even Derek stepped back, leaving Spencer to fend for himself.
Marta’s eyes found Derek all too quickly, and she grabbed his hand to lead him to the dancefloor. Cate shook her head at her wild friend, but smiled lovingly at her.
“Looks like Derek met his match.” Spencer said to Cate, but he was watching Marta drag Derek to dance. Cate took a sip from her water, trying to hydrate her dry, nervous throat.
“What are the chances that you’d be waiting in line, when that kid stole my tip jar.” Cate laughed to Spencer. Derek had returned to the team with Marta in tow, filling them in on his little plan.
“Well, the odds of getting robbed in the U.S. are one in 667.” Spencer shrugged, shoving his hands in his pockets. “It’s an average of 150 robberies a year per 100,000 population.” He rambles off, “And it’s just timing my job plus my love for coffee.”
“How did you just know that?” Cate stared in amazement. Spencer stuttered before he managed a full sentence about his eidetic memory. “So you know like everything?”
“Well, as long as I read about it or see it once, I can remember a lot.” Spencer could feel his blush creeping up his ears.
“Okay shut your eyes.”
Spencer did.
“What color are my eyes?” Cate tested.
“Light Brown” Spencer answered fast. “But I knew that from when we first met.” He mentally face palmed himself for saying something so forward. His eyes were still shut.
“Okay then let me give you something harder.” Cate slowly swiveled her head, looking around the bar. “What color is-”
“That’s not really the best judgement of my memory, I’ve had FBI training on how to assess a room in less than ten seconds.” Spencer opened his eyes. “I can recite things from memory, which would be a better measure of my memory.” Cate was in awe. “Like, for instance, pick a book, any book. I’m well versed in most literature.” Spencer had now turned to face her. Cate was smiling up at him.
“Any book? Okay, how about the first sentence of John Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men?” Cate quizzed, picking the first obscure book she thought of.
“ A few miles south of Soledad, the Salinas River drops in close to the hillside bank and runs deep and green.” Spencer recalled, almost immediately.
“Impressive.” Cate nodded, pursing her lips.
Derek and Marta were up to no good, huddled over a table. The rest of the team were watching Cate and Spencer’s awkward flirt exchange like a car crash, they couldn’t turn away. Penelope pretended to wipe her eyes.
“I’m just so proud. He didn’t even use any magic tricks.” JJ nodded her head in agreement. “I hope we get to add another girl to our girls nights.” Penelope continued.
“I’m just hoping we can get that coffee in our building somehow” Emily half-joked.
Marta stood up from the table, and walked back over towards Cate and Spencer. She tapped Cate on the back three times, which was their signal to go to the bathroom together. Cate waited exactly ten seconds for Marta to get a headstart and it wouldn’t look suspicious.
“I should go check on Marta, excuse me.” Cate turned to walk towards the ladies’ room and entered. “Marta?” Cate saw only one stall was closed. “Everything alright?” The toilet flushed and the stall door opened to reveal Marta. She wore a devilish grin.
“What?” Cate looked through the mirror at Marta’s reflection.
“Look what I got from a certain friend of an agent.” Marta held a napkin up with numbers written in blue pen, pleased with herself.
“You got Derek’s number?” Cate gasped, surprised.
“I wish.” Marta. “It’s Spencer’s number.” Marta held out the napkin for Cate.
“What?” Cate said in disbelief. “Spencer gave you his number?” Marta shook her head.
“Derek gave me Spencer’s number to give to you.” Marta picked up Cate’s hand and tucked the napkin into it. “Don’t say I’ve never done anything for you” Marta was smiling, then turned pale. “Hold that thought.” she turned on her heel and rushed to a toilet, emptying her stomach.
Cate opened the door to the bathroom, feeling nauseous from the noises of her friend. Spencer was no longer in the hallway. He must’ve gone back to his seat. Cate thought. When she glanced over to where they had been sitting, they weren’t there. With no company, Cate turned back around to comfort her friend in the bathroom.
“Let’s get you home.” Cate said as she rubbed Marta’s back.

If It’s Just Pretend | Brock Boeser
Summary Request: “I’ve spent the last nine months telling my family about my amazing partner and they just dumped me before the winter break; please be my fake partner” Word count: 5,4k Note: aka lou’s favorite cliche
---
“So,” you say, sliding onto the couch next to Brock and putting a beer on the coffee table in front of him, “why are you moping?”
Brock’s eyebrows raise up as he looks up at you. “I’m not moping,” he says, but it sounds extremely mopey, so you roll your eyes.
“I know you better than that,” you tell him sternly, and take a sip of your drink. “You haven’t even made fun of Tuna once.”
You pointedly shoot a glance at Jake, who’s wearing a Santa hat but no shirt as he loudly sings along to Britney Spears’ version of My Only Wish, and waltzes around Bo’s living room.
Brock sighs. “Yeah, I guess that is unlike me, huh?”
But he doesn’t expand.
It’s the Canucks unofficial Christmas party, the one that comes after the official one at Rogers Arena with all the Canucks executives where everyone dresses up in suits and sparkly dresses and drinks champagne.
You’d been to that one too, but this one is the one you’ve been looking forward to.
The one with your favorite people dressed in ugly Christmas sweaters (or no sweater, if you’re Jake Virtanen) singing Christmas songs and drinking beer and destroying Bo’s carefully decorated flat.
You think you just heard Rouss yell something about fighting the Christmas tree.
Now Brock is your best friend on the team - he’s been your best friend since he walked into the coffee shop where you work one day and made a pointed comment to some guy that was rude to you, after which you gave him a free coffee and your number - but you’ve spent so much time around the rest of the guys that they’re all kinda your friends, now.
Team parties, movie nights, you’ve attended them all. Nobody ever thought it was weird that Brock brought you, not even when he had girlfriends that he probably should bring. He never did. He always brought you.
Until about 9 months ago, when he started bringing Amber around. But, even then, he made sure to always invite you, too. If it was an official team event where players were only allowed a plus one, he’d make Petey bring you.
(“I don’t mind,” Petey had said, “I like you a lot more than any other people I could bring”)
It still... hurt, to say the least. You know it’s ridiculous, but it still felt like you had been replaced, still felt like you hadn’t been enough.
It’s never been like that, for you and Brock, even if that’s what you wanted it to be in the beginning. It remained platonic, and you didn’t have the guts to move it along, and then Brock started dating other girls, so you just kinda gave up.
But the girls had never lasted, and you’d always been the first priority, so it was fine.
Until you weren’t, and it wasn’t. Until Amber.
But tonight, Amber isn’t here, and Brock is sulking, so you turn around and smack Brock against the chest. He’s wearing a sweater with a gingerbread man on it, that you end up punching straight in the face.
“Stop ignoring me,” you chide. “Tell me what’s got you out of the Christmas spirit.”
You know Brock loves Christmas: he goes all out every year, and this party is one of his favorite evenings of the year, so it must be something serious to have him sitting on the couch staring stoically ahead while nursing the same beer all evening.
Brock sighs, and you can see the stubbornness leave his shoulders as they sag down.
“Amber left me.”
And... oh.
That’s not what you were expecting.
“Oh, Brock,” you mumble, reaching out to squeeze his knee, “I’m sorry...”
“No you’re not,” he interrupts, a little gruffly. “You never liked her. None of the guys did either.”
You feel your cheeks flush: perhaps that’s true, but you didn’t think Brock ever noticed. He never let on that he did.
It’s not even that you didn’t like Amber, as a person: she was fine. Not really your type of girl, but fine. You just didn’t like the way she spent her evenings clung to Brock’s arm; how you felt like you couldn’t truly be yourself with your best friend when she was around. You didn’t like the looks she shot you sometimes, as if you simply being there offended her. You didn’t like how Brock’s smile dimmed when she was around.
He always told you that he was happy, that she was great, but you never saw it reflected in the way he acted around her, or the way he looked at her. So you thought that even if they’d been together for over half a year, it probably wasn’t going to last.
Except now he looks genuinely upset and you feel a bit bad for being right.
“I’m not super sorry that she’s gone,” you admit, because lying to Brock is useless: he’s always been able to look straight through you. “But I’m sorry you’re upset. Why did she break up with you?”
Brock fumbles with the label on his beer bottle. “Just, our lives didn’t really fit together...” he drawls, and you can tell he’s deflecting.
He’s not telling you everything, and any other day you would push him. But this isn’t the time, and it’s not the place, and at that time Jake trips over his own feet and nearly takes down the dinner table, so you get a little distracted.
It’s not until the end of the evening that you see Brock again. You would’ve stayed at his side like a good friend should, but it seemed like Petey had that covered, and Bo put you on Jake duty - “You’re the only sober person here, you watch him” - so you had your hands full.
But at the end of the night, most people gone, Petey comes up to you with Brock trailing behind him.
“He’s drunk,” Petey states, which is surprising because before you left Brock alone he’d been sipping the same beer all night, and now he’s suddenly stumbling over his feet as he’s got his big body draped over Petey’s back. “You take him home.”
“Why do I have to do it?” You cross your arms, narrow your eyes at him. “Why can’t you do it?”
Petey sighs, motions to Brock. He seems annoyed. “Brock, I’m going to take you home.”
“Noooo,” Brock whines, and he’s drunker than you thought, his voice slurring and his words jumbling together. “I want Y/N.”
Petey snorts and pushes Brock towards you. “Have fun with him.”
“Y/N?” Brock slurs, wrapping his arms around you. “You’re here!”
“Yep...” You nearly buckle as he puts all his weight on you. “You’re gonna have to put in some effort here, bud, I can’t carry you.”
Brock giggles. “I could carry you though.”
“Not right now you couldn’t.” You start guiding him to the door, that Bo already has opened for you.
“Uber’s outside,” he says, shooting a pitiful look at Brock. “Is he gonna be good?”
“You know what, Cap, I have no idea,” you tell Bo truthfully, and then you begin the impossible task of getting Brock in the Uber.
It takes a full 10 minutes but finally you’re in the back of the car, driving towards Brock’s apartment. He’s awake but barely, his head keeps bobbing down, and finally he drops it onto your shoulder.
You feel something squeeze in your chest. You barely ever see Brock like this: he’s not the type of guy to hide his emotions, but he is genuinely a happy go lucky guy, always positive and cheerful even when things are going wrong. Even when bad things happen, he shoulders the pressure and stays strong. He always holds it together; always holds you together.
But now he’s gripping your hand tightly, like you’re the last thing tethering him to the earth.
“It’s gonna be okay,” you mumble, carefully carding your fingers through his hair. Brock exhales softly, and you can feel the tension slipping away from his body.
“It’s not even about her,” he says, and the words are not only slurred together but also barely above a whisper.
You hear it, though.
“What’s it about, then?”
“I spent... fuck, I spent nine months telling my parents how great she was, and they were so...” He pauses. “Happy, you know? That I found someone. Because they worry sometimes. About me. And they were finally gonna meet her at Christmas. And now they can’t and they’re gonna worry, my mom, she’s gonna be so worried and...” His voice trails off. “It’s not about losing her, it’s that I don’t have anyone now, and that’s gonna worry my mom, and I don’t want that.”
Maybe, in another world, where Brock isn’t drunk on your shoulder, where you’ve got your feelings a little more under control and your heart isn’t beating in your chest, you would just pat his head and let him cry it out, leave an aspirin on the bedside table and text him tomorrow to find out if he’s still alive.
But you’ve never been good at hiding your feelings, when it comes to Brock, and Brock has never seemed so vulnerable, so you blurt out:
“I can pretend to be your girlfriend and come to your house for Christmas and your mom doesn’t have to worry.”
The second the words leave your lips you feel your cheeks heat up: that’s stupid, obviously he’s not gonna want that, he wants Amber, not you...
But then Brock’s head snaps up and his eyes are wide as he asks: “Really? You’d do that for me?”
You nod, and you don’t tell him you’d do just about anything for him, and somehow a week later you find yourself with Brock’s head on your shoulder again, except this time he’s asleep, not drunk, and you’re not in an Uber but on a plane to Minnesota.
--
“This was a bad idea.” You’re standing in front of the house Brock grew up in, and you know his family is inside. Brock is next to you, holding a suitcase.
“Why?” he frowns. “Are you nervous? You already know my parents.”
“Yeah, but...” You don’t finish your sentence but you know Brock knows what you’re saying. You know his parents but you know them as Y/N, the friend, and not as Y/N, the girlfriend, and somehow it changes everything.
“Hey,” Brock says gently, nudging you with his elbow. “They already love you, and they’re just gonna love you more now. It’s gonna be fine.”
And it means nothing, because he can’t know that, but something settles in your stomach.
Then he takes your hand and you think, oh, and then, I’m screwed.
Because of course, in order to be his pretend girlfriend, you’re gonna have to act like his girlfriend. Which is just gonna be massive reminder of everything you can’t have, everything you can’t ask for.
Brock opens the front door.
“Mom, dad?” he calls out, dropping the suitcase at the door. The first person that appears is Jessica.
“Hey Jess,” he smiles, hugging her.
Suddenly, family appears from everywhere: Laurie comes out and then Paul, followed by a bunch of dogs, who are the first ones to acknowledge your presence.
“Y/N, honey, you’re here!” Laurie says, reaching out to hug you too. “Brock, I thought you said you’d bring your girlfriend.”
“Uhm,” he answers, and you can’t help the way your heart drops.
Because of course they wouldn’t think you’re his girlfriend. You’re just the friend. You’ve always been just a friend, you’ll always be just the friend. You’re just not girlfriend material, not for someone like Brock.
Brock scrapes his throat, hooks his arm around your waist and pulls you into his side. “Mom, Jess, Paul, you know Y/N. My girlfriend, Y/N.”
There’s a silence, one beat, two. Then, it’s Jess that breaks out into a grin.
“Yay,” she says, “I like her.”
And it’s like that’s it, the seal of approval; suddenly Laurie has her arm around you as she hoards you into the living room, chatting excitedly while Paul slaps Brock on the back.
“Finally got your head out of your ass, huh?” you hear him say, but you don’t have time to overthink what that means, because Duke is there.
“Honey,” Laurie says, “it’s Y/N! She’s Brock’s girlfriend!” She turns to you. “I told him it was gonna be you but he didn’t think so, he said you were way too good for him.”
“Hey, I heard that!” Brock protests. “Talking bad about me behind my back, pops?”
And it’s easy, from that moment on: easy to let Laurie make you a hot chocolate, to sit by the fire talking to Paul, petting a dog, easy when Brock sits next to you and slings his arm around you. It feels comfortable, familiar; like you’re already part of the family.
It’s easy that night too, to help Laurie with dinner, joke with Duke about football, join Paul when he teases Brock.
“Evil, evil woman,” Brock groans, and he drops his head in your lap and you card your fingers through his hair and let yourself believe, for one night, that it’s real.
Of course, that illusion shatters when it’s time for bed.
“You’ll be staying in Brock’s room, I assume?” Laurie asks.
“Of course she will,” Brock says, and it’s not until you’re both in his old room that he turns to you with a frown.
“Are you okay with this?” he asks. He’s looking pointedly at the double bed. “I can sleep on the floor.”
And, well, you’ve slept in a bed with Brock before, but only when you’re really drunk, and it doesn’t feel the same now; it feels like this is something, like it matters, not a stupid decision by two friends who both refused to take the couch.
But you’re here for three days and you’re not about to let Brock sleep on the floor at his own house, in his own bedroom, so you shrug.
“It’s fine.”
It’s very much not fine, when Brock crawls into bed next to you wearing only sweatpants and you can feel the heat radiating off his body; or when you wake up in the middle of the night and he’s got one arm slung across your body, his warm breath stroking your cheek with every exhale.
I’m just helping a friend, you tell yourself. It means nothing, and I can stop myself from feeling like it does.
But then a soft snore escapes Brock’s lips and you know you’re absolutely, royally, completely fucked.
---
The next morning Brock walks into the kitchen with his eyes half closed and his voice laced with sleep, as he mumbles a “good morning” and goes straight for the coffee maker.
You know he’s not much of a morning person but it’s still hilarious that it takes him a full ten minutes to notice.
“Are you cooking?” His voice sounds a little more normal, but it’s still gruffer than normal and you wish it didn’t affect you so much.
“I thought it would be nice to make breakfast for your family.” You send him a tentative smile; you didn’t discuss this, and you don’t know if you’re crossing some kinda boundary, but everyone is so busy making sure you’re taken care of that you can’t help but feel a little bad.
Brock laughs. “Oh boy, if you thought they loved you before, they’re really gonna love you after you make them pancakes. They’re gonna be so upset when we...”
He cuts himself off, and his eyes widen slightly. You know he didn’t realize what he was going to say, and that it’s probably not the place to say it.
Anyone could walk in at any minute, and it wouldn’t be good if they overheard you talking about your breakup.
Fake breakup. Whatever.
You frown down at your pan. Maybe this breakfast thing was a bad idea, maybe...
“Hey,” Brock says softly. You look up from the pancakes and suddenly he’s standing right there, and he carefully threads his arms around your waist. “Don’t,” he mumbles, “don’t worry about it. That’s my problem, okay?”
It is his problem, but it very much feels like your problem; you don’t tell him that, though, instead smile and flip the pancake.
“Be useful,” you scolds him, trying to get it to feel normal again, “and go set the table.”
“Okay, babe,” Brock says, and he presses a quick kiss to the side of your head before going off to find some plates, and it very much feels not normal at all, because there was nobody around to act for.
And so, this is where you ended, at some kinda crossroads where you can either remind yourself that it’s not real and feel miserable the entirety of Christmas, or you can allow yourself to pretend and feel miserable after.
You watch Brock as he carefully sets down the plates, gets the coffee maker going again and baby talks the dogs as he pots around.
It’s gonna hurt anyway. You might as well enjoy it, even if it’s just pretend.
---
You have breakfast with the family, after which Laurie tells Brock to “go show you the town”. So you drive around the town and he shows you where he grew up: his school, old house, favorite park, and of course the rink.
“Spent way too much time there.” The rink looks like every other ice rink in the world, but Brock is smiling at it so fondly you’d think it was a person. “That place kinda made me who I am now, you know.”
It feels strangely personal, to see this side of him. You thought you’d seen your best friend from every angle, but you’ve never seen nostalgia out of him. It softens his edges and makes everything in the car feel warm and fuzzy, a little like a dream.
Then, on the drive back, Brock reaches over the console to grab your hand and you’re sure it must be a dream.
He doesn’t look over at you, doesn’t speak. Christmas music is playing softly on the radio and it’s starting to snow; just small white puffs floating through the air. You allow him to thread his fingers through yours and then, suddenly, he’s smiling.
“I have an idea,” he says, and you’re proud of yourself for sounding relatively chill when you ask “what”.
If someone would just hear your voice, they’d have no idea you’re freaking out on the inside.
“Wanna go for a walk?”
“Where?”
“Where” turns out to be a deserted pond, in the middle of a field. You have to climb a fence to get there and Brock ensures you that it’s not trespassing because he knows the owner, so you decide not to question it. The ice is thick and filled with bumps.
“I used to skate on this pond,” Brock says. He carefully steps onto the ice and presses his foot into it, almost as if to make sure it’s really there. Then he holds out his hand and you step down, grasping his hand for support.
You’re not a professional hockey player, and you’re wearing boots with no profile; it’s not as foul proof as Brock might think, and you’d rather not break your leg in some abandoned field in Minnesota that might or might not be someone’s private property.
“How?” you ask. “It’s so bumpy.”
Brock laughs. “It’s a pond. That’s how they work. But you’re right, I fell all the time.” He shrugs. “My mom says I used to come home so black and blue she was sure I would one day just not come home at all.” He pauses. “But she always let me go anyway. Knew it was the only place I wanted to be.”
He walks to the middle. Your hand is still tightly in his, so he pulls you along, sliding on your shoes. In the middle, he stops, and you slide into his side; he doesn’t seem to mind, simply holds you there.
Brock is staring at the sky when he speaks, almost like he’s talking to himself, or the air, and not you. “Whenever I was upset about something,” he continues, “I would come here and I would stay here for hours. I always told myself I could just live here, until it got cold and then I went home.” He chuckles, then becomes somber again. “And now...”
The air is charged with something, and you’re afraid to speak, afraid to break it. But the pause lasts too long, so you risk it anyway.
“And now?”
Brock smiles and looks at you; there’s something written all over his face but you can’t quite read it, can’t quite put a finger on it.
“Now I go hang out with you,” he finishes.
You don’t know how you end up where you do, but Brock’s face is so close you can nearly count his eyelashes, and he’s staring at you intently, and you don’t know who leans in first but suddenly your lips are pressed together.
His hand comes up to cup your cheek, and his fingers are cold against your skin, a stark contrast with the warmth of his lips on yours. You’ve had a few first kisses but they never felt like this; they felt exciting, sure, but also scary, and unfamiliar.
With Brock, you don’t have to work to find your footing. You fit together like the perfect puzzle, and everything feels exciting, but in the same way it feels exciting to come home after a long day. Every nerve in your body settles, and you feel comfortable, safe. Like you belong. Like it’s real.
It’s not real.
You step back, Brock’s hand dropping to his side almost comically slow. Instantly, he’s frowning.
It can’t be weird, you’re gonna die if you made it weird, because you still have to be his fake girlfriend for two days and...
How on earth are you going to survive this?
“No one to pretend for,” you joke, but it sounds foreign either to your own ears, like the words are coming from someone else. You hear a low buzz that you’re pretty sure is coming from inside your brain.
“What?” Brock stammers. “No, Y/N, fuck, that’s not...”
“I think,” you interrupt him, and you hear yourself sounding a little hysterical, now, “that it’s better if we go home! I promised Jess we’d watch Elf, tonight, and I wanna make some popcorn. Let’s go.”
You jump off the ice and nearly run to the car, repeatedly reminding yourself not to cry, and spend the car ride staring out of the window with your arms wrapped around yourself.
Brock doesn’t say anything, not until the car is in the driveway and he puts it in park.
“Listen,” he sighs, and there’s no way you’re gonna make it through this conversation right now, so you jump out of the car and slam the door.
The house is warm when you walk in, and almost immediately, you hear quick footsteps coming down the stairs.
“Y/N!” It’s Jess. “I was about to paint my nails. Wanna come so I can do yours?”
And you’re not in the mood, but it’s Jess, and it’s not her fault, and you know it’s a big deal for her to open up to people, so you plaster on the biggest smile you can muster.
“Sure.”
---
“Red?” Jess asks, showing you a bottle of nail polish. “For Christmas?”
“Yeah, okay.” You really could not care less if you tried, but Jess doesn’t seem to notice. You’re sitting on her bed, in her room, and she falls down next to you comfortably, taking your hand and putting it on her leg as she opens the nail polish.
There’s Christmas music playing.
“You’re a pretty big fan of Christmas, huh?” you ask her.
She nods. “When I was little, I already had that.” She motions to the corner of the room, where a small plastic Christmas tree sits on a desk. “And I would put it up in October, even before Halloween. Everyone said it was crazy, and mom and dad always asked me to wait until after Thanksgiving at least, but Brock would help me put it up and say, if it brings you happiness, you keep it close to you as long as you can.”
She smiles. “I’m glad he kept you close.”
And you wanna yell at her: it’s not real, he doesn’t, it’s all fake, but you don’t, because with everything, he’s your best friend, and you wouldn’t do that to him.
“Uh, yeah, me too,” you say, instead, and it comes out as a whisper.
Jess switches hands, moving on to the other nails.
“I know he can be a bit of an idiot, sometimes,” she muses. “But I knew even he’s not dumb enough to let go of you. Like, he never told us he was dating you, but we all kinda knew. He’s always talking about you, you know, and when he does he always sounds so in love. He just can’t keep it out of his voice. He’s an open book, like that. When he loves someone, it’s written all over him, and he clearly loves you.”
Every single word that falls from her lips seems to hit you right in the chest, and by the time she lets go off your hand, nail polish done, your hands are shaking.
Jess doesn’t notice. “I’m glad that it’s you,” she says, with a smile. “I never liked the girls he dated before, but I like you. I’ll tell him to stay with you forever.”
And it’s in that moment that you decide you can’t do this anymore.
---
“I’m going home.”
The words are loud in a quiet living room. It’s just you and Brock; you waited until everyone else went to bed, after the movie. It was torture, to wait; your heart beating in your throat the entire 2 hours, and you were so sure Brock was going to feel it vibrate out of you, even though he kept his distance.
You guess you sufficiently freaked him out earlier, at the pond.
Now, his eyes widen and he sits up straight.
“What?”
It’s too hard to look at him while you speak, so you stare at your hands. Red nail polish. You’ve already peeled it off because of the nerves.
“I have to go home, Brock. I can’t do this anymore.”
Brock sits so still you can’t tell if he’s even still breathing. When he speaks, his voice is a little shaky.
“Is it because I kissed you? Cause I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to freak you out. It just kinda happened, and...”
“And it didn’t mean anything?” you finish for him, and it’s like a switch gets flipped. Now you’re mad. “That’s exactly why I have to go, Brock, because it doesn’t mean anything to you but it means something to me!”
You jump up, cross your arms.
“I know this is my own stupid fault, I should’ve never come here, but I was trying to be a good friend. Because that’s just the thing, that’s all I’m ever gonna be to you. A good friend. And I know that. But this? This is just one big reminder of what I want but can’t have. Having your family act like I belong here, having you act like I belong here, it’s too much because I know that I don’t.”
Brock stands up, now, but he doesn’t say anything and you don’t really give him the time.
“I had to listen to Jess tell me that she’s so glad I’m your girlfriend, because she likes me, and how much she can see in your eyes that you love me. And I had to sit there and say nothing because I knew if I opened my mouth I would’ve told her that she’s wrong. I love you, but you don’t love me, and I thought I could just pretend, but I can’t, Brock. It hurts too much.”
“I didn’t know...” Brock tries carefully, but you can’t let him finish that sentence, can’t let him attempt to let you down gently.
“I know you didn’t, because you wouldn’t have invited me over here if you did,” you tell him softly. The anger has disappeared, now, floated out of you like it was never there at all. “But you know now. So I should leave.”
And with those words, you disappear upstairs to grab your stuff.
A little, teeny tiny part of you hopes that Brock will follow. But he never does.
---
You’re sitting on the porch, waiting for your Uber to the airport. You don’t actually have a flight yet but you’d rather sit alone at a busy airport than stomach this for a second longer: you’re only just managing not to burst into tears.
It’s no longer snowing, but there’s a thick layer of snow across the yard. Foot prints lead up to the door. Your footprints. Then, next to them, bigger ones; Brock’s.
God, you hate this.
You’ve just dropped your head in your hands when the door opens behind you. It creaks, then closes and clicks softly into the lock.
You know it’s Brock before he even sits next to you. You don’t know if it’s the sound of his footsteps or the smell of his cologne or the fact that your heart seems so tethered to his that you can literally feel his presence, but you’re not surprised when his voice cuts through the quiet night.
“I lied to you, about why Amber broke up with me. It had nothing to do with our lives being on different paths.” He pauses, and despite yourself, you look up. He’s staring straight ahead, but then he turns around and his eyes catch yours.
Your stomach twists.
“She broke up with me because she didn’t want to spend her life being the second most important thing in my life.”
“Hockey,” you say, because that’s what all WAGs joke about; how they have to be okay with being the most important thing after hockey.
But Brock shakes his head. “No, you.”
And, uhm, well, what?
“What I did to her wasn’t fair. I dated her because I knew I had to get over you and I thought she could help me do that. But if the both of you needed me at the same time, I would fly to the moon to be with you before I’d drive to the other side of Vancouver to be with her. And she knew it, and she finally decided she wasn’t going to put up with it anymore.”
He shrugs. “I was upset, but for all the wrong reasons. Not because I lost her. But because I knew then, that I was never going to get over you.”
“But...” you start, but now it’s his time to cut you off.
“No,” he says, gently but firm, and he turns to you completely; his knee is pressed into your thigh and he reaches out, takes your gloved hand in his. “Let me say this. You say it hurts, because I’m making you feel like you belong here and you don’t. But that’s not true. You do belong here. And you belong in Vancouver. And you belong anywhere I am, because you belong with me. And God,” he laughs, humorlessly, “believe me, it hurt me too, to see you fitting in with my family so well, as I knew you would. I knew they would love you. Because they can always tell when I love someone.” He pauses, then, softly: “And I love you.”
This time, you know it’s you who leans in and connects your lips, but Brock is right with it, presses the palm of his hand into your lower back as he deepens the kiss.
It feels like hours and seconds at the same time, when he pulls back; only slightly, only enough to breath.
You sigh, happily this time. “This would probably be a lot more romantic if it was still snowing,” you mumble, a smile spreading across your face.
Brock seems unbothered as he shrugs.
“We can just pretend.”
