MEET THE DESIGNER PLURAL

Please introduce yourself and your brand?

My name is Magdalena, I live in Graz, a small but lovely city in Austria. I am actually an architect but since 2015 I am the designer of my sustainable fashion label PLURAL. PLURAL is a small fashion label dedicated to minimalism and clean design in cut and colour. We produce with high-quality organic materials and consciously abstain from using animal products.

Your brand is vegan friendly, can you tell us a bit more?

When I decided to run a fashion label, it was also important to me to combine my personal convictions with my brand: I have not accepted the existing abuse in the food industry for many years, so it was logical to reject the fast fashion industry. A designer has to know where and how the fabrics one uses are produced. After intensive research, it was clear to me that the use of organic quality and non-use of animal products must go hand in hand. There are too many bad things going on in the production of animal fabrics and I do not want to be part of this industry. Due to that, all PLURAL products are 100% vegan friendly and organic. I do not use any product that comes from animals – no wool, no leather, no silk … My customers can be sure that they buy 100% fair fashion – neither nature nor any human-being nor animals are exploited by PLURAL products.

What is your opinion on the future of sustainable fashion?

I think that sustainable fashion has a future. Even if the fast fashion industry is powerful, every designer and customer could make a contribution. I have made the experience that more and more people want to be part of this movement and open their eyes to the grievances of the fashion industry. A lot has already been done in the last years. More and more brands have committed to slow and sustainable fashion. And so there are also more and more fabric producers, who are working with organic certification. This is a chance to be part of a movement which campaigns for nature and for human and animal rights. For me and my brand, sustainable fashion is the future.

What or who inspires you the most?

My inspiration is the people on the streets and the daily life in cities, all over the world. I love to sit in a cafe or to stroll the streets and study people passing by. In those moments I start dreaming of new styles and that’s how every new collection is born. I say “I scream”, you say…?

…”keep calm”, cause I am a minimalist. My design isn’t loud; minimalistic design is a clear and quiet formal language. Can you tell us about any exciting plans for the year ahead?

The main plan for PLURAL for the next year is to take steps to expand and to serve other markets outside of Austria – like being in Studio183 in Berlin. In terms of everything else – we’ll wait and see what happens.
