ok whether u wanted it or not here we go WARNING: mentions of gore, nudity and murder and sexual fetishes
so that specific version of the image blew up on the main internet as a meme in 2022 ppl using it's just general despair abt it to describe common inconveniences that image is also cropped and edited, the only thing u miss out on is the wider shot of the hospital bed and that in the original her chest is visible that is very important because that image is in fact fetish art. it was made for a very specific purpose, for jorking it. it is also a sequel piece to a far more gory and disturbing piece where u see the girls eyes r gouged out, her tongue, limbs, ears, and lips r cut off that is also fetish art.
so who made it? an artist on Danburo named S Zen Lee (i think) uploaded it in 2009.
where was it posted? Danburo is a japanese image board that is 95% pornography of varying degrees. it was also posted to Safeburo an image board site that was meant to be only SFW art on it but this slipped thru the cracks. it floated around 2chan, 4 chan, guro.sex and around the internet for awhile before the version i put ending up on instagram in 2022 by a shitposting acc called “intellectual_incel_group”
why was it made?????? well for why i said. it’s fetish art. it gets ppl off. it is specifically a somewhat niche fetish called Guro or Ero Guro and is even more specifically an even more niche subgenre of quadriplegic guro.
what is guro?? here’s the meat(no pun intended) and potatoes of this. Guro or Ero-Guro stands for Erotic Grotesque Nonsense. It’s a fetish that is essentially just gore porn. usually anime girls and always illustrations (that’s where it differs from snuff) in disturbingly violent situations w exaggerated gore. now here’s where things get interesting. Guro started as a somewhat political art movement in the 1930s in Japan. It was art meant to shock and horrify the general public. it was full of guts, gore, and violence however there wasn’t really a sexual aspect to it yet. it was mostly just to horrify the masses and comment on how society was so desensitized to violence. now where it gets sexual is for 2 reasons
1. the natural progression of art against censorship and conservatism is to end up at sex. cause what’s more shocking and horrifying that human beings naked bodies.
2. a murder. on May 18th 1936 Sada Abe a sex worker and geisha murdered her lover Kichizo Ishida and after he died she cut of his penis and testicles and kept them in her kimono as keepsakes. the public was naturally shocked and intrigued by this. many many many movies were made abt this featuring very closely gore and violence as well as sex and pleasure. so ppl combined the 2.
btw side note she only got 5 years in prison and after release wrote an autobiography it’s a very interesting case i highly recommend researching if ur interested. her name is also used constantly as the name for a female protagonist in hardcore japanese porn.
now currently guro is DEF NOT an art movement anymore it is exclusively a somewhat niche fetish that lives on the internet. it's sort of assumed that like w many weird fetishes the appeal is the overall taboo-ness that comes along w it but that's sort of wishful thinking since it's probably a lot more twisted. however i will say in learning abt this there was a guy who explained why he liked it and it was mostly the helplessness of the person depicted (helplessness and control is fairly common) and it's a fantastical extension of mainline BDSM that obviously (and unfortunately) doesn't speak for all that live lurking and posting on Danburo's guro board and a place called Guro.sex which is an insane url i didn't know u could register in the first place.
anyways that’s the insane story of this now famous meme. (sources wikipedia and Skumbagovichs video on this some details may be off)
TLDR: the pic is fetish art that has its roots in the Grotesque Nonsense art movement of the 30s japan and the Sada Abe murder case that fueled it
hey so weird question but would anyone care to know the history both behind this and it’s insane connection to 1930s era japan and it’s political ties
it also involves an interesting murder case and society’s (esp japans) desensitization to violence and gore
