me 5 mins later, realizing that all the stuff in my writing tag literally jumps from 'pining angst' to 'we dont know how to communicate but we're in love in some capacity' to 'wedding plot.txt' and WOW i never wrote a confession scene for this blog: oops.

Now that I’m working on this conlang, I’ve noticed I’m doing the thing where I make extremely terse notes in a bunch of text files whose names are all less than ten characters long under the assumption that I will see them later and just be able to remember what I was thinking.  This is an objectively terrible idea.  The last time I tried that strategy I created these notes in a file called plot.txt in my Message In a Klein Bottle directory, I’m just going to post these in full so you can see what I mean:

Except for parts 4 and 5, which I actually wrote, and part 7 which was going to be super short, and part 8 which might actually be self-explanatory, I have like approximately zero knowledge of what any of this means now.  This is a bad plan.  I need to come up with a new strategy for documenting stuff in a verbose fashion.  For the first major conlang I came up with, I created this actual somewhat-polished LaTeX document, back when I did the troll conlang I set up that google site.  I don’t want to rely on google sites for this, google has a bad habit of randomly shutting their projects down.  The LaTeX document has actually stood the test of time, I never wrote a lot of stuff about that language, but I’ve got detailed explanations, nicely formatted tables and the full vocab list in there, including images of the actual native orthography.  Updating a PDF document doesn’t really lend itself to blog posting, but I think it’s still helpful to keep as a resource.  I thought of it as something I would use to present my language to others at some point, but it was actually more useful as a resource for me.

Similarly, if I ever want to get this story off the ground, I’m going to sit down and write full summaries of things with complete sentences this time.  Jesus Christ.

task 2. plots

plot 01. char A and nolan knew each other while he was in military school. this has two routes: one - they hated each other. always in competition with the other, always wanting to come up on top. for nolan, this was almost an obsession; if he wasn’t the best at home, he was going to be at school. two - nolan took a liking to char A and develops a budding friendship, or something akin to it. most of the times, it’s someone who allowed him to vent about anything that troubled him (mostly family issues) without recriminations. the outbreak separated them but reunite after a while. nolan, hesitant to let anyone in, doesn’t know what to do with char A. plot 02. nolan is tempted to join the reapers - he knows they are superior in a number of ways in comparison to the crimson tide. his loyalty to ct is weak, if it was ever there. whenever he goes out on supply runs, he lingers too much on the other side. one day, he gets caught by a reaper (occupation doesn’t matter, but someone who can easily get out of campgrounds would be preferable). an awkward truce commences between the two; nolan isn’t sure if he was going to be killed by the Reaper or recruited by them. he begins incorporating the Reaper side more into his runs and char B humors him, playing with the idea of helping him switch. plot 03. whether they be in the same group or not, char C is wary of nolan, who has become more careful around them. nolan has a perverse vibe with them, with sleazy grins and sharp commentary - he wants to see char C uncomfortable, because they’re the ones who know what he’s really like: a belligerent with a sweet demeanor (i’m guessing they’ve caught nolan when he was more aggressive, either in conversation or in actions). often, he will offer to pair up with them for anything that requires pairs, just to see their reaction. char C is basically someone nolan likes to fuck around with. plot 04. nolan’s always lived in the shadow of his twin sister, helena. he’s petty, jealous, angry when it comes to her and her possessions. for the few periods of time he rooms with his sister and his family, he tries to talk up his sister’s friends and boyfriends, as if to get them to side with him. char D is someone he successfully managed to pull away from his sister & served as a companion he eventually ditches (this could cause resentment from the character). essentially, char D is someone who knew nolan before the spread (this is just backstory i guess? yikes idk) [OPEN]

plot 05. branching off of plot 1, nolan is very competitive, and this trait hasn’t faltered in the apocalypse. char E is his unlucky rival, and the two bicker/challenge each other in everything. this would work well if the other is a supply runner or if they can get outside of camp grounds easily. they love to irritate the other to death, and nolan wants to feel like they’re two notches above char E. task 2. plots

plot 01. elliot is shit out of luck when it comes to the zombie apocalypse. he’s passive by nature -- likes to avoid conflict, likes to keep people alive instead of killing them. this kind of attitude will surely get him killed, either slowly or fast, by walkers or any malicious person. character A takes it upon themselves (or elliot asks them out of pure necessity) to teach him the basics of survival: how to shoot a gun and not feel remorse. 

plot 02. the start of the apocalypse triggered something in elliot. before, he was calm and could joke around for days. now, there’s only a shell of what he used to be - his anxiety made it hard for him to be laid-back; his fate is out of his control and he hasn’t been able to smoke in ages. char B is someone that brings back parts of the old elliot, someone he can joke around freely with and reminisce about old times.
