first of all, veronica mars. one of my fav characters EVER. god she was amazing, always smart, funniest sense of humor, and she had this witty personality that reminds me of you. she was so unique, and was verrry resourceful in what she did. (like you with your fics, i swear the amount of unique stories you bring to this fandom is insane. even if you get inspired by something ahem ahem lisa frankenstein, you still manage to make it a whole entire different thing, im always amazed by everything you do, just like i am with veronica)

now this other character, tabby, has been added to emmy's files recently, pllos is my new fav thing. and OMFG. she reminds me of you. she's so very nice and funny, her movie/cultural references kill me bc shes so me (although yours is much more tame, my girl tabby goes too insane with them) she has a brain that works so creatively (like u) BUT she doesn't hesitate to put ppl in their places if they try her. which i admire a LOT about you. you have a heart of gold, but if ppl attempt to disrespect you in the slightest, you're not afraid to shut them down!

AND ALSO. ON THAT NOTE. (look its been a while since i watched mad men, like lots of years. and i havent finished yet BUT.) ive always admired peggy's arc and her no-bullshit, ambitious attitude and her ability to stand up for herself... just way ahead of her time (quite literally) like u are. and i mean it. seriously. the way you stand up for yourself and raise the questions ive always been to afraid to raise in a community like this, is very inspiring. like you said to me, you're such a refreshing person, in every way possible, it's great to see someone as talented as you turn out to be so kind and funny, ly vivi!!

you will always hear me putting respect on pllos and all the actresses names bc the product was amazing but i do have some criticisms.

i love how everything had reasoning to back it. motives were there and most questions were answered. however the last two episodes were paced way too quickly. you could tell they were struggling to fit all the tied up ends into two final episodes once we got to ep 9. for instance with mouses storyline ash and her moms just show up at the motel room and everything is fine? no further explanation for what mouse is even doing and why. the back to back nature of the reveals playing out was so fast that it became a bit absurd to me. that was a good thing abt og pll was that you had plenty of eps in a season to space things in a more digestible fashion. now i do think 20 is too much but a little filler in between the heavy plot points would be nice. it’s just that the pacing was very good in the first 7-8 eps and then everything was quickly taken care of in a very dramatic way in two eps.

also again i loved the motive and explanation behind A and the actions they took but i didn’t like that we barely knew anything abt the principal other than that he was annoying and we only knew abt angela’s brother right before the reveal. wish the girls would’ve questioned the principal abt angela since he was a teacher in 99 and then we would’ve known more abt him and who he was so we could’ve been more emotionally invested in his character or had him ruled out already only to be surprised by the reveal. og pll failed in this area too with later A reveals bc ppl want betrayal which requires more work and confidence from writers and producers to ruin character perceptions of a character their audience knows or loves. if they could’ve done this right pllos would have been the perfect reboot imo. maybe with another season angela’s brother will be revealed to actually be someone we know. one thing abt me is that i’m always gonna prefer a peer as A to an adult bc get a job and stop torturing children youre 30+ years old, it’s lame behavior.

there were some pieces that should have been or need to be followed up on though. would have liked more closure on the joe situation and the waters house including the cage and dead body. why was joe there and chasing imogen like that? also didn’t like how everybody kind of just brushed past the fact that tyler was killed. he was garbage but still that’s a murder and should raise more eyebrows. and another thing, what was the deal w A’s box in imogens basement like what all was in it and what is the significance of it being an army trunk/crate? there’s a lot more that could be garnered from that. finally, i filed this away in the back of my mind early on and don’t know if it’s still relevant but did noa actually destroy the usb with the karen video? we never actually saw her do this hm.

regarding characters and actors, miss bailee madison delivered as imogen and i will see to it she receives her emmy for this bc from the screams to the chase scenes everything was on point and just calibers above what is to be expected from a project like this. i absolutely loved the main girls and the chemistry they were able to bring despite only ten eps. yes i think the chemistry came a bit fast for them almost all being strangers but they had to work with what they got. the best chemistry was that between imogen and tabby which i’m hoping develops into something more (but also faranoa hello). i need more one on one interactions between the other girls though so we can get that chemistry that came with the og girls and all the pairings. and while talking abt the girls, i wanna shout out farans arc and just how much she changed over the season bc she’s one of my faves for that. in terms of lgbtq matters, the show has widely improved trans rep in ash and love him and mouse together. mouse is also queer and love that for her and at the same time i also need wlw relationships involving at least one main girl (pls let it be noa i need to see maia reficco kissing women) so hoping for some slow burn development in s2 as previously mentioned.

i think the thing that sold me most was the aesthetics like for one, the spooky autumnal vibes no matter when the events were taking place and part of that was that they shot in the same school building as chilling adventures of sabrina and i think that set is immaculate. plus i love old school horror and they paid so much homage to that and that sells it for me above a lot of other things.

one thing that is unforgivable though is the heavy handed insertion of predatEzra (© mikes mike on yt) Fitz. like i don’t need to explain this one, i don’t want to see or hear abt him, especially not when what’s said implies and basically spells out that he and aria are a perfect and acceptable couple bc it’s a slap in the face when all throughout the season the writers consistently and rightfully denounce sexual violence and grooming behavior only to end with this after we were led to believe the reboot had tried to make up for the sins of the original. it’s ugly, sick, and twisted! and only marlene king would continually make this the hill she wants to die on but that’s a topic for another day.

Alright, so update. I got around to watching the second episode and liked it much better than the first. I think the reason it takes me back to Scream Queens is because they're clearly heavily influenced by the same thing (classic horror). But the difference is that SQ was a horror themed comedy. However, it's very difficult for me to take ridiculous things seriously, so when PLLOS hits me with these dramatic transitions and sound effects that don't actually sound anything like what they're supposed to represent (the sound of Karen's body hitting the stage...omg 💀) I find it comical anyway.

I kind of appreciate it though. I'm not crazy about classic horror films or anything, but this style is a creative choice that completely sets this spinoff apart from the original series and its previously failed spinoffs. There are still some questionable things here and there (e.g. what are the odds that all those women had daughters at the same time? You got dressed and walked into the ballet room for practice and didn't notice there was a whole razor blade in your shoe until you sat down? Why is Imogen asking for an abortion when her belly is the size of a beach ball?), but I've come to accept that that's a given with most fictional shows...especially when the show in question is a teen drama.

I hope it sees the success that I wanted The Perfectionists to have. One of the issues I remember having with The Perfectionists was the pacing. In the beginning it felt like every episode dragged. The unhinged energy that we got from A in PLL was missing for me, and pieces of the puzzle were being uncovered so slowly. I don't recall it picking up until close to the end of the season. Granted, I don't remember Marlene King's A going too hardcore until like 3 seasons in, but the shit being done was still infinitely more interesting than what was unfolding in The Perfectionists. In contrast, PLLOS came out the gate swinging. There's been four deaths in the span of two episodes and several secrets have already been teased (whatever tf their moms are hiding, Tabitha filming the boys' locker room, Imogen's baby daddy, Tabitha filming the boys' locker room, how Noa ended up in juvie, bitch WHAT is Tabitha doing filming the boys locker room...etc). The writers were clocked in and WORKING. I might just fuck around, get invested in the story and stick around to watch the whole damn thing.

To that PLLOS anon: in Noa's casting call character description, it says she questions her sexuality and confides in Mouse about it. So yes, they did scrap that storyline. And I'm gonna be honest. The show has been amazing so far but I'm quite disappointed that the WLW rep isn't more prominent or explicitly stated/shown. I know, I know. There is so much more to the show than just the girls' sexualities. But when you're rebooting a show that had a character (Emily) who was the pinnacle of lesbian representation back in the day, we're gonna have expectations!

YES!! It was a real issue with the original show. They kept adding red herrings, distractions and clues that went absolutely nowhere... it was really frustrating! The real challenge for PLLOS will be to keep the mystery going after we get those answers.

She doesn't even remember the dude's face, so…. I believe she is doing it to catch them bragging about it, which hasn't happened yet.

I know I remembered Eddie as a much younger strong and athletic dude, so that threw me off a little. They could have casted an actor who better fitted the description of the original Eddie Lamb 🤷‍♀️

I don’t think the new Liars are supposed to know about what happened in Rosewood. Maybe one day, we will see one of the original girls share the story with the new girls. I’d like that. Hey, perhaps the new -A’s inspired by the original -A and how they terrorized Rosewood for years.

OH. I did not ignore that. Mouse is on my suspect list. I love her, but I just can't figure out some of her motivations - for example, connecting with a random (was it?) strange man whose child was taken from him to what end?

May I also point out, she may have gotten that burner from Steve's work place, which makes me also wonder if she didn't pick Steve for his access to electronic devices, such as burner phones and surveillance equipment...

I don’t trust chip at all. It’s VERY weird to me that on his first date with Imogen he admitted to being love with tabby for years, and what? Decided to move on with her best friend. Like if it’s just to throw us off and he is just a normal dude then super nice of him to partner with Imogen so she didn’t feel uncomfortable, but still weird for him to say he’s the baby’s father??? Why was he even at the appointment and not Tabby’s mom ??

OH, we are definitely not trusting Chip as far as we can throw him. He is suspect #1. It may sound ironic, but he was too forthcoming, too "honest" with having an unrequired crush on Tabby for years.

And well, he was at the appointment with Imogen cause of that parenting school assignment, and she was the one who asked him to tag-team after losing the fake baby at school. BUT he turned into a walking red flag when he fully embraces the baby daddy role of the real baby for no reason. (maybe! cause he is the real baby daddy aka the r*pist!!!) Again. TOO nice and supportive. He could be a good guy... the biggest red herring of all, but... Trust NO1!

I'm afraid to admit I used ship ezria before now i realize how sick their relationship was and am glad they are approaching things differently in the reboot like tab telling her boss off.

No shame in admitting you didn't know better at the time. Their relationship was romanticized to the extreme as the main couple on the show, and it was super popular in the fandom back then. I never liked them, I hoped Ezra was -A or dead the whole time lol, but I wish I had been more vocal against it at the time.

It seemed like everybody turned a blind eye on all the creeps (Ian, Wren, Wilden and so many more) just roaming around Rosewood, preying on teenage girls. I still remember people thirsting for all of them, and it was gross!

And you’re right, the same type of relationships with an uneven power balance between teen girls and older men are being written in a completely different light. And what I love the most about that is that the girls themselves won’t have it. 

They recognize the issue. They have a voice. And they are speaking up. We’ve seen Tabby directly confront Greg, Wes, Chip and Tyler over behavior that made her feel uncomfortable or unsafe. Imogen confronted her bully. Faran confronted her emotionally abusive mother. It’s good to see!

What do you think of the theory Caleb is A because he is Angela's brother and Tabby is helping him get revenge? I think that's my favourite.

stab me in the heart why don't you?!? since they are some of my fav people, i don't think i'd like that very much. Caleb used to be the only decent boyfriend and most interesting main male character in the original. i love him, ok? and Tabby, why would she want to kill her own mother (a loving and supportive mom!) and her mother's friends? NO. JUST NO.

besides we know, Caleb was abandoned by his mother Claudia when he was really young, but reunited with her when he was 18yo and she was living in Montecito. and as far as we know he only has 2 much younger stepsiblings. i think they would need to do a lot of retconning to make Caleb work as the new -A. so i really hope Caleb is living his best life with Hanna and their twins.

i do think the idea -A is related to Angela Waters, possibly her brother, has a lot of merit, but they are either a brand new character we haven't been introduced to yet, or one of the PLLOS boys, like Wes or Chip. you know, they look and act sus af.
