Cupidz (Korean: 큐피즈 주; Japanese: キューピズ), is a South Korean girl group formed by Pledis Entertainment in 2018. The group consists of seven members: Yeona, Kyungjoo, Kumiko, Sun Yoon, Doyun, Yuri, and Haeun. Cupidz debuted on February 14, 2018, with the title song "LOVE BOMB", from their first mini album of the same name, LOVE BOMB.

According to Haeun in an interview with Harper's Bazaar, "Our name, Cupidz, represents how we feel towards a certain person of interest. Our storyline is based off of having your first crush and feeling like you've been hit by Cupid when you see your crush. I think it's simple, but cute."

┃HISTORY

2011-2017: Pre-debut activities

Park Yeo Na joined Pledis in 2011, being the first member to join the company. She starred in the web-drama Love High as Song Hye-Kyo in 2015. She was also seen frequently alongside SEVENTEEN before their initial debut in 2015. 

Heo Kyung Joo joined the company in 2015, and had no public activities prior to the announcement on Cupidz's debut.

Hino Kumiko trained under DSP Media for only two years, having joined in 2014 and leaving in 2016. She joined Pledis Entertainment later that year in 2016. She often posted dance videos on Instagram while she was a trainee.

Beon Eun-hee (known by her stage name Sun Yoon) was a CUBE Ent. trainee from 2015 to 2017 and left the company the same year due to artistical differences with the company. She later auditioned for Pledis within the same year and her first audition was rejected. She auditioned once again in 2017 and was accepted.

Lee Do-yun was a well known trainee as her singing videos would often go viral. She joined Pledis in 2016 and trained for only a year and 7 months.

Yamaguchi Yuri and Geun Ha Eun were both completely hidden trainees. Yuri joined Pledis in 2015 and Haeun joined in 2017. Neither of them had been shown to the public on any official Pledis accounts so fans were excited for the mysterious trainees.

2017-2018: Preparation & Debut

Despite Pledis' girl group Pristin recently debuting, Pledis made the decision to begin working on yet another girl group, Cupidz. They evaluated over 30 trainees in September of 2017 which included Park Yeo Na, Beon Eun-hee, Lee Do-yun, and Yamaguchi Yuri. They all were chosen for the official lineup, following the addition of trainees Heo Kyung Joo, Hino Kumiko, and Geun Ha Eun. Pledis felt that the lineup of girls was enough to begin working on the group. 

Pledis had hinted at a new girl group in December of 2017. Little had still been known about who the members were and when the group was set to have their debut. In January of 2018 Pledis officially announced the group's name 'Cupidz' and all 7 members. They stated the group would be debuted the following month of February. 

They made their official debut on February 14, 2018 with the title song "LOVE BOMB" including their mini album of the same name, LOVE BOMB.

I havent been on weibo and stuff in a while and i did Not think c-weishennies would be so mad about winwin not participating in the cb and theyre specifically mad at HIM about it... 😮 theres none of that twt oh poor winwin stuff going on 😭 from what ive seen most group fans are pissed that he misses so many things willy nilly and just shows up when he wants to which forces the other members to keep rearranging their formations. They do blame sm for part of the scheduling conflicts but there are definitely some things he couldve been in if he actually wanted to (ie the nct 2021 beautiful mv like ur telling me he couldnt find a rooftop like ten for a 3 second drone shot?) and i do see a point there i feel like in 2021/2022 he was fully ready to dip and ppl are speculating that he only comes back to wayv when mainland acting deals fall through. And they blame him for not saying anything about missing this cb until it became a trending weibo topic bc fans were fighting about it even though he mustve known he wasnt in the new cb weeks ago but ppl also said they felt the message was disingenuous or a bad excuse which i dont agree with i think it might really be a scheduling conflict this time and its not above sm to screw their idols like that.

Ppl are also bringing up for comparison how well the two svt chinese members are balancing their individual mainland china activities and group activities and i think that has something to do w the management style of the companies too bc pledis seems kinda laissez faire but sm keeps their idols on a short leash in general but winwin also does seem really flip floppy on what HE even wants like he was never a great idol but he cant leave wayv yet bc he hasnt been able to get his career in china up and running despite spending all that time there and i think if anything this is a testament to how generally likable he is bc if he was anyone else this backlash wouldve come much sooner. and i do semi agree with it bc how much can u blame on sm and how much is just winwin not advocating for himself at all? he has his own studio and there are opportunities out the ass to get on variety shows that dont require any talent or skill other than being semi famous in c-ent so whats really stopping him if he really wanted a career in china? And whats stopping him from getting any better at singing or dancing in his seven years of being an idol if he actually wanted a career in kpop? And if hes just in it for the money which i think a lot of idols are thats fine! But the rest of wayv shouldnt have to accommodate his indecision about what could make him the most money. About Me/Background Information

Born Dec 08, 2000; Lived in Bulgaria until I turned 10, then I moved to Chicago with my father, since my parents had split up prior to this. My half-brother and mother remained in Bulgaria.

I was neighbors with NCT’s Johnny at that time, and he would often babysit me when he was home and not in Korea training. He even taught me some Korean. I was very close with him and his mom, since my father would not be home for a long periods of time, due to his drinking problems. In mid 2012, the Suh family adopted me, and my father’s parenting rights were taken away.

Since they have a home in Korea as well, they took me there as Johnny began training full time at that time and they wanted to be close to him. Once I was on a walk with Myoryon (Johnny’s mom) and a scouting agent from Pledis Ent. decided I should become a trainee, so after a lot of thoughts and consideration, she let me audition.

My biological mother found out about all of this and was very against it, but I just didn’t pay attention to her and began doing what I wanted. I trained since the beginning of 2013, which is when I met Dino (SVT) and we became very close, but Pledis kicked me out, so I auditioned for JYP and SM, and got accepted in both, but chose SM, since Johnny was training there.

When I moved to SM I didnt know many people, since not many of them spoke english, so I often stayed alone, but then my member Jia began training and we became best friends.

1996 - 2008

ISHIDA AYUMI was born in 1996 in Kyoto, Japan from young parents. Her whole life was hard since her father left the two girl when she was only 3 years old, leaving all his responsability and washing his hands of it. So her mother had to raise her all alone but as soon as she could, ayumi tried to help her on her own despite her really young age. And a way to help her was to became famous, be a kpop idol and earn as much money as she can to give to her mother everything she missed since she was born. Thats why her mother worked harder just to have enough money to send her to Korea and let her follow her dream, also with the help of Ayumi grandparents.

2009 - 2012

In 2009 she was accepted by SM Ent. When she frist came to Korea, her expectations where high. She knew that not knowing the Korean lenguage at all would create a barrier, but she was aiming to her extroverted and open personality thinking that it could be easier. Well, it wasn't like that at all. Inside the building she didn't find some buddy at the start, letting her giving up a little until she met a boy, Johnny. He was only a year older than the girl and, because of their similar personality, the got along pretty well. From now the times got easier.

2013 - 2015

in 2013, Ayumi was scouted by a woman from Pledis Ent. She tought about changing company a lot and, after some times, she decided to do it. She naively tought that maybe Pledis training were softer than the SM ones, but it wasn't like it at all. Then, in 2015 she debuted in SEVENTEEN.

Lost Girl facts?

Yua is the oldest of seven children, she has four brothers and two sisters. Her mother is a Japanese model and her father is the lead guitarist and leader of a Japanese rock band called Kistune. (The same one Hyejin's dad is in).

The girls all have individual rooms in the dorm and they also live in the same building as Arcane (Babygirl and Ariel's group).

There the first group to debut under Jin Studio's sub label.

Chaewon was a Pledis trainee that got kicked out of Pledis Ent because she didn't pass their monthly evaluations.

Hazel only swears when she sings, she does not swear normally.

Meanwhile Chaewon swears constantly.

While all the girls can produce and write songs, Eunji is the main producer for the group while Yua and Hazel commonly do the song writing. Chaewon will normally make a drum beat from listening to what they're singing.

Eunji is the male deterrent member. Anytime other idols try to approach the girls, she just sits there and glares at them.
