Twice. The first time was Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity, wherein the main villains are implied to be suicidal, wanting to destroy the world to end their unhappy lives. They overcome this feeling as they realize they have made friends amongst their fellow villains. The second time was the end scene from SOMA. I was watching a playthrough and it made me cry in the library while writing an essay lmao.

15. Unpopular opinion about the manga/show? (for xxxholic)

All the crossover stuff with Tsubasa was fine on paper and a cool idea, but the whole thing about Watanuki being the replacement for Syaoran and the clones being his parents has always just crawled up my ass so fucking bad

Like....the scene where the old fortune teller lady tells him "your parents are okay in the hereafter, they died trying to protect you and they're proud of you etc etc etc" was really poignant imo but guess what?!! They totally ruined it later by being like "haha ooops! they're actually still alive and stuck in a glass tube oh and did we mention they're also weird clones or some shit???"

And let's not forget how all this Syaoran clone fuckery played a part in why the ending was......Like That

Like.....this is one aspect of xxxHolic where I have to give the J-Drama and 2022 film the nod for leaving all that stuff out and giving Watanuki a different backstory. In both versions his parents death (well his mom's...his father is never mentioned in either adaptation for some reason) had to do with spirits in some form and he blames himself and it all just really drives home how much of a problem seeing spirits is for 'Nuki (especially in the 2022 film where he straight up almost kills himself in the beginning). tbh that's why I plan to work this version of events into my AU fic in progress...
