robin cross and kevin day parallels actually go so crazy. they both spent their formative years in a basement underground with exy-obsessed captors. they both saw exy as freedom. they both were isolated even within the foxes’ group of outcasts. they were both under andrew’s protection. it cost kevin jean to leave the nest and it cost robin another girl’s life to escape her kidnapper. robin carried her racquet with her to self-soothe and kevin restrings the net of his when he’s anxious. they’re even bird coded

Okay because I came up with a (in my humble opinion) the FIRE ship name of "Starbuck" which is Monster Frankie X the contestant, I wanna explain why this ship is so good because y'all fr sleeping on it. Unlike Rabbit royale which I've been seeing as portrayed as a toxic yoai situation where neither parties are good for each other, Starbuck is DOOMED yoai and it makes it SOOOO GOOD, now lemme set the scene real quick:
Monster Frankie has been acclimated to being the star of the show. No contestant has ever survived more than a few MINUTES. He's a sadistic killer who fucking GIGGLES when he kills someone, there's nothing the bastard loves more than crushing people and having all the audience watch him do it. A new season starts and the plan changes a bit, he has orders to NOT kill the contestant and this is what bothers him. He's mad, after all this is HIS gameshow, he is Frankie, the star, the one everyone comes to watch kill, and suddenly he's not supposed to do that? I mean, he does ATTEMPT to listen but ultimately he argues with Real Frankie about it because he's pissed, he doesn't want this nobody to survive until Hexa-Havoc, he wants them fucking DEAD! He goes out of his way to kill the contestant yet he's stopped by Real Frankie and this ultimately leads to the final confrontation. When he sees Real Frankie try to help the contestant out he's enraged and grabs him by the springy wrist and effectively tells that smiley bastard to fuck off and he's done, the plan is over, they made it to Hexa Havoc meaning what happens now is FAIR GAME!
And it was a fair game, but THAT'S THE ISSUE! In a fair fight with the platforms disappearing and them giving chase they somehow lose. For the first time in 50-something seasons they actually LOSE, this random nobody comes in and beats them and they get sent into an incinerator. Not only that, but after he comes back to life with his consciousness going into a spare suit they had he finds that same fucker who beat him as a contestant in the NEXT season.
And this is where it starts
Season after season Monster Frankie chases with the contestant running and ultimately beating him each and every time. Obstacles change, renovations are made to the parkour palace, seasons tick by. But never once does Monster Frankie figure out how to beat this masked weirdo who just showed up and asserted themselves as this reoccurring guest. His fame, his fun, EVERYTHING that he had built up as a cruel and relentless killer who the audience bets on to murder is flipped upside down. It's this loss after loss that makes Monster Frankie stop thinking the contestant is some lucky little fuck, he begins to realize what he's losing to is SKILL!
THAT'S WHERE IT BLOOMS! There's this unspoken rivalry that starts between them. Monster Frankie will continue to hunt and the contestant will continue to run, the contestant has this constant thrill of being near death thanks to this giant toothy rabbit and Monster Frankie has this little thorn in his side who continues to best him. He's intrigued, mad, but ultimately he can't help but feel a sort of attraction to this. And maybe it ain't one sided? After all the thrill of getting chased is what keeps the contestant coming back after each season and no one else gives them such a rush expect for Monster Frankie. Even if they don't talk much (at least they don't on camera, what happens off screen is left up to anyone's imagination ╮(. ❛ ᴗ ❛.)╭ ) they still fall for each other and find themselves constantly trying to beat the other in this constant hunt.
All good things must come to an end though. As one would guess watching the same person get chased by the same monster may become boring to the audience. You can only change up the obstacles so much before it STILL becomes boring to the watchers. Now's the tragic part: the show has to change. It HAS to, the ratings are starting to drop and then higher ups are demanding things to be shaken up leading both to make a choice. If Monster Frankie and his continuous failures has bored the audience which is gonna force the higher ups to scrap him, they're gonna get rid of him and instead have something else replace him, idk maybe some NEW mascot and he'll be left forgotten and in the incinerator instead of getting a new body. On the other hand the contestant could die, the reigning champ could be dethroned leading to a new champ to possibly rise leading to a new fan favorite the audience can cheer for.
Whatever the case then end is near for the two. One of them is doomed no matter what, one HAS to perish and it's beyond devastating. This rivalry that blossomed into love, what started off as hate that became fondness and possibly even affection is torn away by the same gameshow that brought them both together. It's this tragedy that makes this ship SOOOO FUCKING GOOD! AHHH! I FUCKING LOVE THIS, YOU HAVE NO FUCKING IDEA!

Sigma and Lucy and their connection to Atsushi (+the pattern with people Atsushi wants to help and how Sigma falls into it)
(Or how they all fall into it, and quite literally fall since for some reason there's a repeated pattern of important moments between Kyouka, Lucy and Sigma when it comes to Atsushi and one or both of them falling or jumping from a high ledge)
I've never been able to stop thinking about this so I'm finally making a post on this.
I'm gonna mainly compare chapter 28 and chapter 76, and the events surrounding these chapters that take place on the same day as them and in relation to them.
The chapters show us more on a member of the enemy terrorist organisation that the ADA are currently up against. In the chapter (or around this chapter for Sigma), we see the backstory of a member and bit of their ideology.
This character started out life with no family and no home, being used and abused in their early years.
It's noted that their backstory is similar to Atsushi's, and that they are actually very similar to him.
Tumblr media
The character loses their home in this chapter (or implied in this chapter for Lucy), and the only family they had that they desperately clung onto and fought for. Even if it wasn't a proper family, it was all they had. They'd been alone their whole lives and didn't want to be alone again.
The home and family in question are on a floating structure in the sky. This is also where the chapter takes place.
Tumblr media
Atsushi says something to this character that affects them. The character ends up helping him just before the two part ways.
Tumblr media
This is the last look they give Atsushi before they leave eachother
Tumblr media
The character and Atsushi leave eachother by one of them falling. For Chapter 28 it's Atsushi who jumps off leaving Lucy, and they leave with a hopeful interaction of them meeting again. For Chapter 76, it's Sigma who falls leaving Atsushi, with a less hopeful interaction of Atsushi believing Sigma is dead and Sigma letting go believing he would die.
Tumblr media
Notably in this chapter, right after Sigma falls Lucy shows up. The last ex-terrorist now friend/ally to Atsushi. And in opposition to both Chapter 28 (where Atsushi jumped away from her) and the scene that just happened (with Atsushi failing to save an enemy) she jumps off a high ledge TOWARDS Atsushi to save him. Lucy was where Sigma currently is, and both her and her bond with Atsushi have grown a lot since then, and this could also be the future for Sigma.
Tumblr media
There is a promise for Atsushi to save this character. Unfortunately, he doesn't end up saving them. They also get taken again by their organisation, no longer by any will of their own.
Tumblr media
Chapter 76 including these three with notable moments definitely feels to me like a comparison of Lucy and Sigma and their relationship with Atsushi. Sigma's situation is very similar to Lucy's as I've previously shown. Terrorists that have recently suffered loss in regards to their found home and family, that get a connection with Atsushi in this chapter. Unlike with Lucy, Sigma and Atsushi left eachother without hope of seeing the other again or Atsushi being able to help them (for the characters, the story itself does give hope of this happening). Then Lucy shows up, as a reminder of the last enemy he helped that DID turn out OK, and to show how far Lucy has come since then, since she was where Sigma is. It shows that hope might not be lost for Sigma either.
With it already being established that Sigma now wants to become an ADA member, the possibility of seeing Sigma grow like Lucy did and develop a bond with Atsushi like she did gets closer to being canon. There's something there and I'm really looking forward to seeing how Sigma's character could possibly develop after this arc (and when he wakes up because my guy is likely in a coma rn 😔)
The Pattern
I've stated that Lucy being in chapter 76 is important to show the connection Sigma could eventually have with Atsushi, but even though she's not in that chapter it's also important to note Kyouka. In the sky Casino mission to retrieve Sigma, where Sigma and Atsushi meet for the first time, it was specifically Lucy and Kyouka who went with Atsushi.
For both Lucy and Kyouka, there were three notable incidents with Atsushi until they become allied with the ADA permanently.
Kyouka:
- Atsushi saving her from the train
- Atsushi saving her from Akutagawa
- Kyouka escaping the Guild and becoming an official ADA member
Lucy:
- Atsushi beating Lucy
- Atsushi and Lucy's talk on the Whale
- Atsushi and Lucy's meeting in the cafe
The pattern here was there being a first meeting where Atsushi is shown wanting to help the character even though they're an enemy that he just thought against and a terrorist.
The next incident takes place a while after the first and is a pivotal point where its made certain in the story that things will turn out OK for the enemy character. A bond is set between them and Atsushi. -------------------------- After the second incident, things in fact do not turn out OK for the character and the audience was actually led into a false security. Kouyou shows up after to try and take back Kyouka, and the Guild kidnaps Lucy from her room before Atsushi can 'come back and save her'. Now the character is in danger again and their fate is once again up in the air, only now there's more at stake since a bond with Atsushi has already been established and the audience has been given the chance to grow attached to them. Whether or not this character will be able to join 'the side of the light' and have a home and family like they wanted is uncertain again
It's the third incident that sets into stone again that the character does in fact turn out OK. They reunite with Atsushi, and they finally get to live a good life with a home and the freedom to live how they wished to. The character is now connected with the ADA and after this point in the story, no matter what happens to the character their place in the light is never thrown into question again, they belong here.
So I believe this could happen with Sigma. He doesn't follow the exact same process, considering that Sigma is also being helped by Dazai, and could be grouped with Atsushi as someone Dazai saved, but chapter 76 still follows the pattern well enough that I believe this could happen.
We've already had our first incident with their meeting. Despite me comparing this chapter to Lucy and Atsushi's second meeting, for Sigma and Atsushi this still fits into the territory of the first part of the pattern.
(Intetesting note: Unlike with Lucy and Kyouka, after it was established that Atsushi wanted to help the enemy, this was the first time where Atsushi 'failed' to. He jumped from the train with Kyouka, he jumped off the Whale after promising to come back for Lucy, but at the sky Casino it was Sigma who fell instead, and Atsushi stayed thinking that he just saw the last of a now dead man that he failed to help. Then again, it could just be following the pattern and we'll see a more hopeful outcome with their second meeting)
The second incident will likely be them meeting again. It will end more hopefully, with a further bond between Atsushi and Sigma and more hope for Sigma joining the ADA.
If we then follow the pattern, something bad will happen to Sigma to throw this off course, and put into question whether he'll actually be able to join the ADA and get a home.
This will last for some time, until the third part eventually comes where Sigma finally gets to stay with his new home and new life. After this, it should be permanent to the story and Sigma shouldn't have his status as an ADA member/ally put into question or at risk again.

Ignore all logistical considerations of "would they ever meet each other under these circumstances". If you don't think Jules Bashir would have chosen to join Starfleet, imagine he is on the station for some other reason, or they meet in some other location.
I wanted to make this poll because I've seen various fics where Garak reassures Julian that far from being upset over him being augmented, Garak is grateful for it, either explicitly because (he thinks) they wouldn't be able to have their usual conversations if it weren't for the augmentations, or simply because he likes Julian "just the way he is" and wouldn't want him to be "different". I disagree that Garak would think like this (or at the very least, I think Julian would react negatively if he did, rather than be reassured), so I wanted to hear everyone else's thoughts.

How many loved your moments of glad grace, And loved your beauty with love false or true, But one man loved the pilgrim soul in you, And loved the sorrows of your changing face
—from "When You Are Old" by William Butler Yeats
Declan O’Hara is only reminded to blink — to breathe — when the cigarette in his mouth burns down to a stub, and singes his lip.
He curses under his breath and flicks it away. He blinks, rubbing his eyes, the sudden movement disrupts the heavy wreath of smoke that had accumulated around him. It is then he marks the passage of time by the dozen or so crumpled cigarette butts in the ashtray.
Yet again, he had become so absorbed in his work that an entire afternoon slipped by unnoticed. There is always more to do, another thread to follow, another lead to chase, that it feels second nature for Declan to turn inward, drawing deeper and deeper into the pits of his own mind such that the rest of the world ceases to exist.
Declan flexes his right hand and presses his opposite thumb into his palm, rubbing out the cramped ache from too long — hours, probably — clutching his pencil fiercely as he scribbled out page after page of notes. His neck pops and cracks as he unfurls his spine, shaking out the bunched muscles Piles of yellowing newspapers surround him like autumn leaves. He shifts, sending them fluttering off the arms of his chair.
The drawing room is a right mess. Declan scratches his jaw as he takes it in. There are still unpacked boxes everywhere. Stacks of books and papers. Sweaters draped over the backs of furniture. He chuffs softly at how lived-in the Priory already looks, all their clutter dragged along from London finding new opportunity to sprawl.
At some point the heavy velvet curtains had been thrown open, admitting a glut of warm afternoon sunshine. It spills into the room, shining on the piano like a stage light. Declan cannot recall if the piano — an old Steinway grand that came with the house — had been positioned thusly when they arrived; or, if it now sits perfectly aligned with the setting sun to cast an angelic, golden hue on its player through deliberate reorganization..
Declan smiles fondly, his eyes going soft. It would be just like Maud to rearrange the room in such a manner, His incomparable wife, ever the performer. It is her way to place herself in the center of everything. Truly, she need not expend much effort; her gravity is as inevitable as the earth’s own. As Declan watches her now he feels its pull.
Maud is seated at the piano, bathed in the late-afternoon light, her fair skin luminous with it, her hair bright, as if burning with threads of fire. Her head is tilted to the side, exposing the elegant line of her neck. Her eyes are shut in concentration as she plucks at the keys. Motes of dust dance in the sun beams, swirling around her, drawn to her, as everyone is.
The sporadic, idle notes had been an unassuming backdrop to his work, so seamlessly integrated with the other ambient noise — birds and insects chittering outside, Taggie clattering about in the kitchen, Gertrude gnawing on knot of rope — Declan scarcely noticed. But the scattered ditties now coalesce into something more well-formed, something recognizable. The opening notes of Chopin’s Raindrop prelude trickle into the air, and Maud turns her head, catching more of the light, turning her face toward the heavens as she gathers tempo.
Christ, she’s a vision.
All of Declan’s breath leaves him in a contented sigh, sinking him deeper into his armchair. He briefly closes his own eyes only to picture her clever fingers gliding across the keys. But he cannot keep his gaze from her for long. From the moment he saw her, treading the boards in Dublin, holding an entire theater in rapt attention, it has been this way. He was happily lost from the first, wholly consumed, his soul set ablaze as if touched by the hand of god. Maud is a creature possessed of a rare, true beauty, one that hearkens back to an age of poetry and song. A muse, with a face that inspires men to greatness and foolishness in equal measure.
On occasion, people have remarked how difficult it must be, to love a woman like that. A woman who commands such attention, one he must share with the world. To Declan, loving her is the same as breathing. It requires no effort on his part. He does not know any way to live but to love her. It is simply her nature to be adored, and he cannot fault her for her nature.
Besides, while she may spare other men a glance, or allow them a touch — only he can boast of sharing her heart, and soul.
Declan props his elbow on the arm of the chair, resting his chin in his hand. The room, the house, the world itself drops away again. Instead of disappearing into his own thoughts, there now only exists the two of them: the star, and her perennial audience — the space between them the stage on which they meet.
As she transitions to the interlude, the sun disappears behind a cloud. The room darkens, shrouded in gray. Yet Maud holds on to the light. She is the light.
To Declan, she is the sun.
She hunches slightly, flexing to impress more weight onto the insistent notes of the interlude, which crash like heavy rain, changing the very energy of the room. The slanting gray light casts shadows across Maud’s face, revealing the intricate patterns of her skin. The fine creases around her mouth, moulded by countless bouts of breathless laughter. The radiant lines around her eyes that deepen so beautifully in the fullness of her smile. The parallel lines in the center of her brow, now furrowed in concentration, but more often present when she scowls prettily in his direction.
It stirs a deep affection, and pride, in Declan to think such lines were partly etched by his hand, for ever having made her laugh, for ever having coaxed from her a smile. Nothing has ever made him feel like such an artist. He is one of the great masters, on par with Michelangelo himself, for having carved such exquisite lines. For having been granted leave to brush the cheek of Helen of Troy, of Aphrodite herself.
And he aches to tell her how beautiful they make her. How alive. How privileged he is to behold the wonders of her changing face, to be gifted the chance at discovery, to delight in some new beauty as each year passes. That poetic urge roars in his chest, beating against his ribs, howling and yearning to be unleashed.
But Maud… no, she will latch onto only the insult — which is no insult at all, in truth — merely an admission of reality, but one she goes to great lengths to avoid. She will miss the sentiment, hear only mention of lines and spend hours poring over every perceived flaw in the mirror. She might even blame him for ever daring to make her laugh, or smile. Because for all Maud’s hard edges she is a fragile thing, an eggshell ego that must be handled with great care.
Declan frowns. Has time not written its passage on his face as well? Is that not the fate of all living things? Youth has many splendors, indeed — but so too does age. She was beautiful then, in the flush of her youth. But she is beautiful still. Even more so, in his estimation. Every line, every wrinkle, is proof of their shared years. Each one makes up a part of the map of their lives. Every one earned. Every one cherished. How could such a thing ever be anything but beautiful?
She will not believe him if he says he looks forward to growing old with her. To marking the passage of years in their deepening smile lines. Even when she is stooped and gray, her beauty will be undimmed in his eyes. It will be changed, but it will never be lessened. By god, he will spend every breath until his last extolling her virtue, heaping praise unto her until she is finally convinced that nothing could have ever dampened his desire for her.
There is a sweet ache in his chest knowing that at the end of their lives, he will finally be able to say: see, darling? I never stopped wanting you.
But there is nothing to be said now, he knows. Nothing to be done, but to continue to love her. So Declan says nothing. He simply watches, and admires. It comes so naturally, after all.
Soon the clouds break, and the tempestuous interlude gives way to a repetition of the pleasant opening notes. Golden light shines on her again, washing away all of those beloved lines. Maud’s shoulders relax, and her face softens. Her hands slow, drawing out the final notes of the prelude with delicate precision.
She takes a final, deep breath before opening her eyes.
She knows just where to look. Declan’s heart clenches as those eyes pierce his soul once again, in all these years never having lost their keen edge. He sees the smile tug at the corners of her mouth, the way her eyes flare, briefly, new life breathed into a guttering flame, before they narrow in suspicion. Maud is always performing, but there are moments like this, in which she is seized by a paroxysmal fear at having been seen.
“What?” she snaps, her voice the harsh caress of a whip.
Declan cannot help but grin. As if she did not want to catch him staring. It is just part of the game, part of what is required to love this wonderful, maddening woman.
“Nothin’, sweetheart,” he says softly. “Nothin’ at all.”
She holds his gaze a moment longer. Her mouth quirks at the corner before she gathers her brow into an artful scowl, and returns to the keys. She straightens her back, settles her hands into place, and immerses herself in one of Chopin’s nocturnes.
Declan shifts, leaning forward in his chair, and reaches for his notes. He lights a fresh cigarette, and turns to a blank page in his notebook. Tapping his pencil on the page, and exhaling a puff of smoke, he glances at the papers scattered about, trying to catch the stray thread where his thoughts left off. But it’s no use, now. He sighs, and his fingers move almost of their own accord, scrawling a few well-loved lines, ones that have been stitched into his heart since the moment he laid eyes on her:
Why, what could she have done, being what she is? Was there another Troy for her to burn?

(Milgram self-insert oc masterpost hehe)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Name: For the sake of posting online I’ll call her Rose!
Color: #E7355B [the pink in the art]
Age: I guess she’d be 20 given when Milgram started huh.
Status: Milgram Staff, Machine Technician
Symbols/imagery: ballet/musical theater, science experiments
Song genre: very similar to Mahiru's, something upbeat and extra pop-y
Tentatively she's number 011? She's not really prisoner but she's also not free to come and go, so I'm not actually sure if she'd get a number (Edit: I've decided she'll actually be 012. Staff is given the 01X range, and even though Es doesn't actively have a number they'd be staff member 011, making her 012.)
Story: Since the project is supposed to be realistic/present day, the mv machine would be brand new and unpredictable tech, so they’d want someone keeping up on maintenance and making sure the brain-invasive process won’t cause any harm to the prisoners. Rose was studying abroad in Japan working on some cool neuroscience tech (irl I know nothing about technology or brains but shh) and she stumbled upon some secret tech/plans from Milgram. Long story short, she was dragged into the experiment to make sure things ran smoothly.
Writer's Reasoning: She’s really fun for me to play around with, as she allows me to work with a character who has a tiny bit of pull over Es’ mindset in conversation but not the final decision (aka mirroring the voting system), and someone who is simultaneously trapped in the prison but has a reason to see all the canon content.* I really enjoy the character interactions and dynamics Milgram has set up so far, so it’s been super fun seeing how things change for better and worse when someone not quite aligned with either Milgram/the prisoners is thrown into the mix!
*As much as I love dramatic irony in fiction, it would drive me crazy if I knew every detail of of the vds/mvs but Rose didn't – and every single Milgram character is The Worst Communicator Ever so I couldn’t justify that she’d hear it secondhand from them...
Story roles:
She’s a bit conflicted -- she’s officially Milgram staff and knows she should remain neutral on the prisoners, since she won’t be allowed to interfere with the process/executions. At the same time, her job description is literally “make sure the machine doesn't hurt them and everyone's safe :)” and she's way too emotional to avoid getting hopelessly attached to everyone 😅
I really enjoy the theory that the machine extracts videos based off of priming, so one of Rose’s duties involves listening in on the interrogation and making sure there’s been enough material discussed/not too much time has passed overall (hence the ringing of the bell happening at different lengths for each vd -- That's her ringing it :3). She then watches the mvs along with Es to make sure there are no machine glitches, and know how to calibrate it better for next time.
(IEdit: I've since decided to add in official trial mvs, but before when I wasn't ready to tackle that:) She has to run some tests on the machine to make sure things are calibrated correctly, so she'd extract little things here and there. It gives me the opportunity to think up lyric snippets and recurring symbols for her without worrying about full encompassing music videos.
I'm not afraid to admit she can fall into Mary Sue territory every so often by being everyone's friend, because it's less about "aw everyone likes her" and more about "canon is too painful rn and I need a fix-it tool to take care of these guys and give them hugs and tell them someone forgives them and cares about them and unfortunately these characters wouldn't let anyone less than a friend do that." Rest assured she's definitely not perfect and will fuck everything up on occasion :3
Miscellaneous: Whenever I play around with normal au ideas she's still working on the machine (but in a public, more ethical setting), and she's Mahiru's roommate :) Her character isn't super focused on love, but if I had to pick a cover song it'd be Stickybug II. It's very much my vibe, the lyrics fit well enough (better than most songs, at least lol) and it's one of my favorites out of my limited knowledge of unchosen Deco songs! (Edit, I've actually given her non-deco cover songs hehe)
So yeah, I hope she's not too boring without a cool crime to decipher, but I wanted to share since I was really proud of her! It took a bit of tinkering to find a way to fit her into a perfect secret-third-thing role that runs very smoothly with all of canon, so I was very excited!
