#please help the namor fandom out if you can!

Listen, I'm just a longtime lurker here, enjoying content on various topics and fandoms. My latest obsession is Black Panther Wakanda Forever, especially Namor and Namor/Shuri. I love the content and ideas I'm seeing already, so I'm just putting these thoughts/prompts out there to get them out of my head, hear others' thoughts if they stir discussion, and, maybe a little selfishly, hoping folks who are way more creative and disciplined than I am run with them to flesh them out in fanfiction, art, etc. (If you do get any inspiration from these ramblings, please credit/tag so I can see the amazing stuff y'all create!) 🤗👉👈🥹🙏🏼

Do any of these ideas resonate with you? What in-universe scenarios with Namor, Shuri, and/or their dynamic do you imagine or would like to see explored or visualized in film, writing, or art? Let me know your thoughts!

(1) Whether in a solo Namor follow-up, or even in the Black Panther or Avengers franchises, I imagine a scenario where:

Namor is his usual cunning and strategic self, understandably putting Talokan above all else but to the point where he makes certain decisions/actions that strain the already fragile alliance with Wakanda, or at least threaten the trust of other team members. Does Shuri defend him, despair, or something else?

Although Wakanda or others doubt him, Namor and Talokan definitely come through to save/assist Wakanda from attack by other world powers. I'd love a moment where Namor saves Shuri specifically. Does Namor go too far, though? How can Shuri and Wakanda restrain them once Talokan switches from defense to attack? Is there a situation where Shuri and Wakanda come a little closer to his viewpoint or actually join Talokan in a proactive attack that can be revolutionary or liberatory?

Alternatively, maybe Shuri and Wakanda/the team sees that there was indeed an immediate threat to Talokan they missed that helps them understand Namor's actions.

In either case, I like the idea of further exploring Shuri's trust or distrust of him, Namor's sense of honor, and grappling with the fundamental difference of having experienced colonization vs. not.

In the process of saving Wakanda, Talokan, or another group of innocents, Namor is wounded and/or captured. In the climax, it seems like Talokan might lose their god-king and Wakanda their ally, and the threat is on the verge of victory. But at that moment, whether by sheer luck or because Namor is blessed by Chaac, the sky breaks open with rain, healing Namor to be able to turn the tide of the final battle.

(2) I think this is more of a fanfic route, but could potentially still work in the MCU: In order to strengthen the alliance with Wakanda and his relationship with Shuri in particular, Namor decides to try to bring Queen Ramonda back to life. Since she drowned, he seeks an audience with Chaac, who sets him on a mission/requires a sacrifice.

So many questions! It doesn't seem that Namor is actually a god, but does being chosen by Chaac to lead his people grant Namor any spiritual authority or powers beyond his mutant and vibranium-related abilities? If he has none directly, is Chaac still connected to him? What is Namor's relationship to faith given his role? Would his mission be a spiritual test taking place in his mind or the Talokan equivalent of the ancestral plane-- or even Tlalocan itself? Would he have to do his mission in the "real" world? If such a thing could happen, how would Shuri or Ramonda react?

(3) Similarly, I'd love to see Shuri meditate on faith a bit more deeply. Besides seeing Killmonger and then her mother in the ancestral plane, which she may still explain away with her mind, she can't deny the small miracle of seeing Namor restored by the water after their battle, without the technology she has in her suit which kept her alive. Is it all down to genes and vibranium infused plants? Or is there something divine at work?

Idk what else to answer that won’t make me sound like a broken record, so I’ll point out one thing I hate about fan-dom in general: overhyping writers/directors and then melting down when they inevitably don’t meet their expectations. 

It happened with Wh*don, it happened with the Russos, it happened with Taika. First Wh*don was THE guy who actually cared for all the characters, the bonafide nerd who could do the superhero genre justice; by the time aou came out he was just another fake feminist with a hate boner for jocks, so people welcomed the Russos because tws did so well (plus, it didn’t help that all those rumors/allegations about Wh*don resurfaced). But then they inevitably couldn’t meet all the absurd expectations fandom put on them, so people reasoned that they were always shitty directors, and that tws was just a stroke of luck. Lather, rinse repeat with Taika, the guy who finally got Thor right, until Love and Thunder came out. And then people were all well, actually, the first two Thor movies were always the best ones imho...

Like, the truth is that all these movies have good and bad elements and directors are just people who uh, probably had only a little say in how they had to leave things in order for the next project to make sense, and as such, you shouldn’t idealise them or tear down everything they made just because your internet bubble worked out how the next movie should go.

16. you can't understand why so many people like this thing (characterization, trope, headcanon, etc)

Hm, I don’t really like mafia AUs in general, for obvious reasons, but I especially don't get how Steve, the guy who doesn't like bullies, would be okay with a partner who's basically just a big bully. Or him being the gangster. Then again, I get that there's the whole Hollywood filter to the idea, so🤷‍♀️ I accept its not for me.

I also find that soulmate AUs can get a bit boring for me if there are no stakes. Like if you hate each other/have tried to kill each other? Yes please! But if it's two virtual strangers who suddenly fall in love because of a couple of conveniently placed words, then meh. I don't hate it, but I would probably scroll past.

19. you're mad/ashamed/horrified you actually kind of like...

Lol I'm too old to be ashamed of liking fictional stuff 😂 Idk, I came out of BP2 really really liking Namor/Shuri, which probably the more pearl-clutching fringes of the fandom finds problematique since he killed her mom and destroyed her country. And also almost killed her as well. But!! I love an obsessive villain who thinks their opponent is the only actually worthy opponent ever. Also, they’re hot.

I guess another ""guilty"" pleasure, is genderbent/cisswap aus, which I blame rageprufrock’s works for (here and here). One, I love to think about how different Steve getting the serum would’ve gone; two, I love to think about how different her life would’ve been in the future. Also, she’d be hot.

Yeah, I know we basically get that with the Peggy!Cap What if, but I love Steve so 🤷‍♀️(also I’ve had a huge crush on Blake Lively for ages so it gives me a chance to imagine her as fem!Steve).

Summary: Story starts with the five days that Shuri spent in Talokan (according to the OG script) and the relationship that bloomed between her and Namor. Events deviate slightly from the movie but I promise it will be for a good reason.

Why I Love It: This one is wild. Shuri takes the opportunity to explore her darker nature and more untoward proclivities with Namor as it becomes increasingly clear that diplomacy alone won’t be enough to secure an alliance between the two. Shuri not only puts her clever mind to figuring out what makes Namor tick, but also how to solve her nation’s predicament, save Riri Williams from his wrath, help Talokan, and get what she wants all at the same time. 

The way these two get into one another’s heads, read right through one another, one-up each other, and ultimately succumb to their own base desires makes for a fascinating read I must say.

One thing tho: once again, Queen Ramonda is generally characterized as more of a tyrant that ignores Shuri’s autonomy. It’s an example of how this woman’s love and care for her daughter’s safety and protection can oftentimes be twisted into something more sinister than it needs to be. On the one hand, Ramonda being ruthless towards others, especially Namor, in her acts as a mother are more than justified IMO. However, I feel there is rare cause, if any, justifiable enough for Ramonda to be cruel towards her daughter, even in that same vein. So, a word of caution here. I’m hoping that before the story’s end, this character will have a turning point that moves her in the right direction. But I understand if some folks don’t have the patience for that.

What if Stephen is going to be what Tony was for the infinity saga. people were speculating that it was going Peter because of FFH, but what if Peter is more like the what Cap was to Tony? His opposite? Stephen's not above doing shady shit for the greater good. And if the rumours are true, and the illuminati are going to introduced. And Marvel putting more focus on Stephen recently.

(2/2) And maybe due to the illuminati's rather questionable methods. Causes a Civil War 2 type of situation. And maybe they're just building Stephen and Peter's relationship. Just to rip it apart like Cap and Tony's?? I don't think but it'll go so far as to same thing again. But I still believe that Stephen is going to be the focus going forward like how Tony was.

There’s a lot to unwrap here and I want to go really in deep with this answer so I’ll probably get a read more at some point. Let’s start with the premises that I don’t know a lot about the comics in general and while I’m pretty informed about the Illuminati saga (because I loved the idea of superheroes being behind the “real” Illuminati, just to discover that is something 1000 times better than the original thing) I still haven’t manage to get my hands on it (if you know where can I buy the comics, let me know, please) BUT I know the story and thanks to a friend who was trying to impress me I also know how it ends in “World War Hulk” which was what Hulk’s fans hoped it would have been the Infinity War saga. 

That said, let’s dig into the ask. I read about Marvel’s intention to do an Illuminati series which I think it's still in the earlier stages of production, but, as I mentioned in my “will Tom Cruise take RDJ’s role as Tony Stark” post, I think this was planned before RDJ’s harsh answer about signing with the MCU once again. Now, I think you all will agree with me in the fact that an Illuminati saga without Iron Man wouldn’t make a lot of sense (especially considering that Namor and BlackBolt haven’t been introduced yet - I mean, technically Black Bolt was in Inhumans but I feel like I’m the only person in the fandom who considers that series as canon - and I highly doubt that Marvel will get from Fox the rights from the X-Men saga soon enough to have Charles in there. So, while I’d very much like the Illuminati series, I wouldn’t hold my breath and I wouldn’t consider this as an important plot turning point if we ever get to have it (or maybe we will but in phase 5/6?! Or maybe they’ll try again to have Robert sign with them for Avenges 5 and then propose the idea, either way, I think we won’t see the entire storyline until late 2024 before covid, late 2025/early 2026 after covid, things remaining how they are now - as in, the possibility to move from country to country and studios allowed to film). 

Now, about the relationship between Stephen and Peter. It’s an interesting concept but I don’t personally think that’s what we will see. Differently from Tony, Stephen showed multiple times that he prefers to speak instead of fight, choosing it as his last option (he doesn’t even try to fight Dormammu, during the battle in the Sanctum he doesn’t attack the zealots until it’s clear they won’t stop, goes for the cage thing instead of the axe while fighting Kaecilius - this also thanks to Cloakie, but still) and he's damn good at it (without mentioning the bargain, see Nick and Christine). I think I’ve already discussed this, but if Tony and/or Steve would have knocked at his door during CW, things would have gone very differently in Germany because Stephen would never choose a fight as an option (I know it wasn’t Tony’s first choice either, but still) especially not with a person he has some sort of bond with (once again, Christine is an example). 

On the other hand, Peter saw the downfall of the Civil War (Homecoming) and he respects Stephen (Endgame more than Infinity War, but I feel like something started to cement also in there). I’m not denying that there might be a point where they clash, it would honestly be interesting to watch, but I doubt it would have the same impact/consequences as the Civil War. 

Which brings us to the last point of this super interesting ask (really thanks anon for sending me this). It appears that MCU is giving a focal role to Stephen (which, I mean, when you have an actor such as Benedict Cumberbatch, you are a fool if you don’t invest in him) and I agree that he can be, under this light, the next Tony, the glue of the group, the leading figure, but at the same time, Peter can be the next Iron Man while staying in the shadow. 

I mean, one of Homecoming’s main themes was “I want to be like Iron Man”, while Far From Home’s was “The world needs a new Iron Man, but I can’t be that person NOW”, so what if the third one will be “I can be a different Iron Man”?! Because taking the heritage of a person doesn’t mean be exactly like them, and I feel like that’s how they are gonna build the Spider-Man trilogy. Stephen can be the person superheroes go to for help (just Tony was with the Avengers) while Peter is the “people person”.

Okay so the primary reason I wrote this is because I remember reading one of your post about how namor said Jim brings out the best in him and I remembered the fine quote of the invaders issues

I feel Jim said the last part not because he’s part of the team but because namor a son of two words the physical manifestation of two words Colliding to altaneens and humans namor is an invader for both their words

Thanks for sharing your fic with me. I always love to see some Jimor (I also call them TorchMariner but Jimor is the fandom name) and yeah Invaders 2019 is not the best Nanor characterization nor the best writing for Jim so we definitely need some fix it fics.

N/A: I got Netflix but I´ll not let my writing stop. Here we go, Kurt, you´re so whipped.

The school has upholds many traditions, smaller and bigger, among teachers and students. It was a way to bond with the old and next generation. So far, so good. Except, a new novelty roaming around the halls and classroom. 

Said novelty is nothing more or less than Nightcrawler, one of the most famous Red guards. Whispers, speculations, including some autographs-sometimes, follow by requests of petting his fur- however, what fuels the rumors are two facts:

1) Nightcrawler is taking his time to visit one person.

2) The said person is none other than Kitty Pryde.

Kitty is spotting a new hairstyle. Fluffy and Jewish style will never out of the menu but is possible to change a few things. So, Kitty has a wavy short style.

At this very moment, Kitty is reading some essays with a knee eye to any strange line regards Namor- some of her students have mothers who like to help in the essays. Some mothers have an extreme adoration- causing an exasperated sigh.

"Oh my God, if I read another line about Namor´s abs..." Kitty taps her pen in a nervous tick. One time, two times, furthermore three times. Now, she´s writing something in the essay. "Tell your mother I´m not interested in knowing about Namor´s sex life...doubt his dick could have stopped the grand war! But rest assured he did try" 

"So, not a fan of Namor?" a male voice draws in. Kitty humms in agreement as she picks another essay.   Doe-eyes lift up to see Nightcrawler smirking at her. "He can be a hassle to deal, let me tell you that... he and his fangirls" mentally add and his obsession with Sue Storm

"Hello, Nightcrawler, what a surprise to see you, in my office, may I help you? Soon, we´ll dive into the history of the Red Guards...I´ll spares no one of my witty" she promises.

"As I would expect of such a teacher like you" Kurt´s smooth line must be appreciated. "I´m here to ask for a favor. Kitty, would you like to go with me to the royal ball? The royal family has many parties and gatherings and I, as a member of the Red Guard, must attend and be on my best behavior" Kurt notes sagely how her doe eyes are glued on his golden ones.

"Oh, you mean ...no orgies?" her question is childish, filled with innocence as her grin got wider.

Kurt wrinkles at this. His fangirls seem to appreciate his sexy appeal too much sometimes.

"No, no orgies." is important to emphasize this as strongly as possible. Again, some of his fandoms really enjoy Kurt´s sex appeal. "But I do need to be on my best behavior..."

Kitty´s eyes look down as her fingers tap on her desk. She looks up again to send the pitiful stare Kurt ever saw. "Oh, elf, I´m so sorry...who is this stupid lady that refused you? Look" she clicks her tongues and has a contemplative expression written on her face. "I´m a big fan of enemies to lovers and all that, but in real life, if a lady says no...date another lady won´t make her magically love you. LET IT GO, elf"

Kurt can only narrow his eyes at this. " Are you...using Frozen/Disney jokes on me?"

Kitty is the image of the innocent. As usual.

"There´s no other girl, just you" Kurt promised never seeing the appeal of dating a girl to make another jealous. "I must say...your self-deprecating humor is not flattering" smirks at her expression. 

"So, let me get this straight, you" points to Kurt vehemently with her pen. "could have any lady to the royal ball and for some reason, one I´m not getting, you want to go with me? What about them?" the pen now points to the pair of eyes staring at them with wide eyes.

It took a minute for Kurt to look. It took a minute for all of them to leave.

"I want to go with you....I feel you, in all your wisdom and wit, won´t let me go to an orgy party" humor is the best weapon. Case and point, Kitty smiles at this.

"Well, I would love to...but, you know, in the program X...they didn´t add in my DNA how to dance and talk to royals" Kurt pouts. Kitty smiles- one must observe, as Kurt did, how her face is perfect to smile- the answer to such line is being waited for.

"You´ll never let me forget that, will you?"

"NOPE"

"Fine, I deserve, I guess. I still think it was strange a ..." thread this line with a clear mind and common sense. "civilian, I would say civilian, manage to handle the situation with Juggernaut so calmly"

"Elf, I´m a teacher...Juggernaut is nothing compared to that" winks at him. "Ok, guess I pick you up at 19hs?"

The nerve of this woman.

Then her face gets serious. "Look, I have to ask...what happened to nurse..." Kitty and embarrassed shouldn´t walk together. She puts her hands in front of her chest to make a point. "you know, the nurse I have a big personality?"

Oh, the nerve of this woman.

"Christine...well, she won´t bother us, I hope"

"She seems ...good"

"You can say she´s not very bright, she asked me if I was German"

"Normally, I hate a man calling another woman dumb or anything like that, but...yeah, in this case...I feel you. Is she alright?"

"Finally got we´ll never happen and took a job in Chicago"

"Well, good for her"

Emma Frost is more than used to those social events. Having her school, and her name as well, in such high regard means doors are open for her.  The events that almost happen to her students have prevented only thanks to Juggernaut´s stupidity and Emma is well-aware of that.

Oh, right. Kitty and a certain Red Guard are in this equation as well. Not that Emma needs to point this one out.

Oh, speaking on the devil. Emma´s blue eyes narrow as she notices Kitty Pryde, of all people, present in the entrance gate having her arms locked with a certain Red Guard. Oh, Nightcrawler, you´re as subtle and discreet as an elephant in a china store.

Felicia Hardy is Black Cat. Felicia Hardy is a businesswoman and right now, Emma´s date. Coming closer to Emma´s ear to whisper always have double meanings. "Is that...Nightcrawler?"

Nightcrawler is really that popular.

Emma wouldn´t want to introduce herself or have to speak with Kitty Pryde. Sadly,  Black Cat has other ideas.

"Oh my god, you´re Nightcrawler, sorry, that sounds stupid. You know who you are. I just want to say I´m a fan" Felicia speaks in an amicable tone and shakes hands with the azzure man.

Her eyes notice Kitty. Kitty, for her part, was too busy sending death glares to Emma. It was a mutual action.

"Oh, you must be Kitty Pryde, Emma told me a lot about you" Felicia smirks. "anyone who can make the great White Queen nervous is a powerful foe"

Kitty now is taken back by this line. "She used to parade around wearing a corset and nothing else"

"Only because you know it looks good on me...not my fault you have a problem with your body"

"Oh, Emma, don´t confuse my ability to use pants to shame over my body. And for the records, all those plastic surgeons ...and no change on your terrible personality" Kitty has a mock concern expression.

Emma won´t dare to cause a scene. Not tonight.

"Nightcrawler, careful with this one. She´s a handful" Emma decides to say only this. Felicia and Emma are holding hands and walking away.

Kurt couldn´t leave this reply without a proper answer. "Oh, God. I hope so. I hope she´s the kind of the woman my mother warned about"

Emma has no response. Felicia is cackling. Kitty is looking at her shoes- if anyone asks, she can say how she was admiring such expensive shoes. Only that- and Kurt wonders if that is the right thing to say.

Wanda Maximoff is the Witch Queen, as most of her followers and family love to call her, and while she understands traditions and its importance...she must confess how this gathering almost didn´t happen. Wanda is as social as a person can be. 

Tonight, she´s on the edge. Lorna and Pietro aren´t good actors to pretend otherwise.

"Anyone wants booze?" Lorna suggests already with some drinks in hand.

"Sure, but I can´t get drunk" Pietro confessed. "thanks to my powers"

"Wanda?" Lorna asked as Wanda is looking Cap Marvel guiding the boys around - a subtle body-guard. A powerful body-guard- her eyes snap back to Lorna as the other is offering drinks to Wanda.

"Yes, please. I´m not feeling this is a good idea...After everything, I feel we´re sitting ducks waiting to be attacked"

"Wanda...you´re not alone, ok? We´re here to protect you, and everyone else. Let´s be real, not the first time a villain wants to conquer Genosha" Lorna half-joke. No one seems to get her sense of humor.

Kitty was admiring the view. Not Kurt, if he asks, but the people in general. Everyone is so famous and important. Hell, even Emma Frost is important. If her eyes linger on Kurt´s handsome face is only to prove how important he is.

After all, Nightcrawler is the famous Red Guard. The fact he´s here with her still seems a dream.

"Am I that handsome?" Kurt asked smiling showing a part of his fangs.

"I think you know this by now...I´m just impressed by how much important people are here" Kitty confessed. Too honest. Too raw and too afraid at the same time.

"Yeah, everyone here is important"

"I know"

"Even you"

"What?"

Kurt feels this is a small victory. Especially seeing her blushing face. A small victory.

The Queen is not one to ignore heroes. So, once she caught the word Nightcrawler and the famous teacher Pryde are present in her ball, Wanda makes her mission to at least say hi to them.

Poor woman! if she hasn´t thought quickly...her students...

The Queen needs no introductions. Everyone knows her face. Kitty´s eyes widen and without thinking much-if she was thinking at all- she makes a bow and puts her right hand´s palm in her forehead and speaks this line.

"Enchanted to meet you, Witch Queen"

It came out so naturally. Kitty wonders if someone is controlling her movements or something because she feels too abashed to say anything else.

Kurt is at a loss for words here.

Wanda claps her hands together. "Oh, a fellow witch too?" her eyes are glowing. For once, not with her power.

"No, Your Highness. One of my students is a witch and goes to the Cackle Academy in the summer. Her parents believe in education in the magic system and in the mutant system...and I can always learn something new"

Better be honest with the Witch Queen.

Is the wise decision as Wanda nods in approval.
